Hmmm so i have some sort of GF problem and it seems like it can't hurt to post about it on LP!
here it is.
My aunt usually rents cars, and then let my dad buy them. This is good for my dad since he knows the car he buys are good (my aunt is carefull with them).
Then, my dad has always given/sold me his cars, since i know theyre good.
A few months ago, he called me and told me that, in april, hes gonna sell me his acura 2005 (worth like 6K) for 2500$ (value of my own car, which i would sell). Then my GF says she wanted to buy my car, since her own car is becomming real shit (its a 1990...).
However, my aunt decided to... change cars RIGHT NOW. This is a problem because now, my dad would have to pay for 2 cars at the same time (both his acura he would sell me, and his new car). So he is now considering selling his acura to a random to get 6000$ for it. He says that its not worth it for me to pay higher price than 2500 since the acura's value would drop way faster than my own car's value.
So 2 days ago, my GF told me to ask my dad what hes going to do, because she was going to do some fixing on her car, but if shes going to get my car at the end of the month, then she won't do it (waste of money). My dad kinda told me it was fine, and that hes going to sell me his car now. However, he didn't seem too sure about it (kinda an important decision).
Today, i talked to my dad again, and he said hes not sure at all about it anymore. He explained to me that, my car is perfectly fine for me right now, if he sells his car 6K to some random, he's going to save a lot of money, and i really don't need a luxury car that much since anyways, my own car is working just fine. However he said that if he doesn't manage to get 6K, he is going to sell it to me.
Now i call my gf, and you can imagine she was disapointed. My car is decent (2002 honda civic) and i was going to sell it to her for 2500$. So now shes either forced to deal with her crap car that can't be completly repaired, or buy a new one, which is risky. Also, she's REALLY mad that my dad changed his mind since he "said" that she would get my car for 2500$. She kinda said "hey he promised it and now he changed his mind, thats horrible". She also claims if she had never been offered my car, she would have searched for new cars and shit, and would have been in better shape.
Now she's so mad that she said she won't talk to my dad ever again. Obviously i can't imagine having a GF that won't talk to my dad ever.
I also can't get a definite answer from my dad, he really does not want to rush such a decision.
What should i do, and is my GF right to be this mad?
Also i gotta agree my dad tends to make a lot of nice plans and they sometimes don't happen, however hes also a very generous dad (i rather be promised a lot of things and have some of it happen rather than having nothing promised at all...).
She lost a little in the sense that if she might have refused some cars offers thinking she would get mine, but tbh she didn't truly loose something imo.
I think the major point is she kinda thinks my dad promised her the car and changed his mind.

My guess is that she's feeling really shitty for some other reason and this became the outlet for all that.

Your girlfriend is being rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate for both you and your dad. Al thought that may be the case it is not her fault. It's entirely your fault for not having earned the respect from your girlfriend you deserve. If she respected you and felt the need to keep you happy, problem with your dad would not be an issue. She would either understand it and even if it bothered her, she would suck it up just so there would be no problem with you.

I wasn't going to respond till I saw what Andrew Song wrote, what a load of bullshit. People have a wide range of personalities and women can be especially irrational, and respect/pride/honor can often be completely lost on them. How exactly do you earn someones respect? a certain % of the population won't respect you no matter what you do. Can a black man earn the respect of the KKK? people are irrational greedy and selfish, many ppl don't even have a decent grasp on what respect actually is.
As for floofys gf, she is acting irrationaly, selling a car is a fairly big decision, selling it to your son for 3.5k undervalue adds even more to that decision. She shouldn't have put all her expectation into one possible outcome which was dependent on a decision that someone else was making. She really has no right to be angry, it does suck when people don't go through with their plans, but its also fairly common and it should have been expected.

Don't blame yourself. Explain to her that she is not married to you and isn't entitled to shit. Tell her you sort of feel bad for putting her in the spot she is in but offer help finding other budget cars... What does a car mean to her anyway? Is she having problems with the car does she view one as a purse, earring or w/e ? If she wants a nice car she has to dish out a lot of cash, if she wants a practical car then all it takse is a little research. Tell her you feel bad but offer help.

Ok first of all, i think you guys are misjudging my GF (that or i'm being naive). Yes she definetly over reacted yesetrday, i guess that can be explained by the fact she values trust/promises a lot, and also she really wanted the car and not getting it gives her a lot of trouble since her own car has a major problem. Girls can be irrationnal, especially when they feel sad/mad etc.
Its actually easy to take one situation and judge a person out of it. My gf does a lot more house work than me and shes a loving gf.
Now today i kinda reasoned her and she realized she didn't have to be this mad at my dad, so she seems to change her mind about this.
Today my dad called me, and he said he thought about some of the stuff i told him (GF mad, helping GF = eventually helps me if i'm gonna be with her for a while), and he said hes up for the deal, but only if #1 i think i'm gonna stay with her a while #2 i actually want the acura.
My gf also wants a definite answer. She's like well whatever he can say no but i want an answer (she currently is at her dad's house far away from our house and is able to repair some of her car for cheap since she knows mecanics over there).
I don't even know if the trade is a good thing or not for me. It would cost me 2000$ (i would pay my dad 2000$ + 2500$ of my car), and i would have a 220000 km acura 2005 instead of a 284000 km honda civic 2002. Both cars works just fine and i don't drive that long distances. My dad says the acura will drop of value much more than my honda.

Sounds like a regular case of "building expectation/raising hope" and " getting disappointed" at things not turning the way it's supposed to. Just give her a little time to cool off, be compassionate about the situation and she will come around if you guys have a worthy relationship. Humans are not black and white as they are on LP.

Really? I thought it was definetly the other way around, I've met way more unconsiderate and selfish women than men.
