-his friends hired a private investigator to search for him
-hes been gone 4 days without a trace
normally given those facts id think it was something like a drug bender, but i really dont think he would ever get hardcore hooked on any substance. theres something more to the story that we dont know about that makes me think hes _likely_ ok (not kidnapped or worse) holed up somewhere but i hope its not something serious like a mental illness or drug habit. 4 days is a long time to be missing, lets just hope for the best

What do you guys think the most likely scenario in his disappearance was? I would guess he was probably targeted by one of groups that has gone after high profile poker players before. Maybe tied into the guys who were breaking into people's rooms in Barcelona? Really scary stuff...hopefully the police can find him

yo if he got kidnapped, only takes a minute of torturing him to get his pokerstars accounts. But cashing that money out is a problem. Maybe they are keeping him until they secure his online money. Someone should probably check his account activity to see if anything is happening.

You have to have a criminal organization targeting successful poker players in some city in slovia. Do these organizations even exist? Kidnapping a person after tracking his whereabouts for a whole night.
I know a dude who up and left surburban life to go into the wild. He lived in the wild for 3 days and returned. He told his family he was doing this. There are stories of people who go into the wild without telling anyone.
Bridge suicide if the city has tall bridges. Some people commit suicide without leaving a note or telling anyone.
The hospital or possibly jail? Walking around a city drunk the police can just grab u up and put you in jail it happened to me in USA.

My memory of the whole event is vague at this point, but I think we all thought it was a scam, and then we received proof that it was legit (it was in the papers) and then I think soah somehow used it to take advantage of Ket (who didn't believe him at first and felt sorry), but I'm not sure about this last part. I know soah just disappeared after he had something going on with Ket.

First thing you must realize is that the river we are talking about is not really a river, it's more of a canal. For a drunk and/or drugged person who would fall in it could generally be very hard to find a way to get out.
Secondly he was last seen in the general area seen in a picture below. As you can see it is surrounded by the mentioned canal. I would also want you to note that as he disappeared into the small side alley, most alleys in this area will lead you directly to the riverside.
So my theory is that he was on a bender with friends, heavily drinking bear and/or experimenting with drugs. He disappeared from his friends to the alley to go pee. The alley lead him right to the canal. While peeing, in his intoxicated state he fell in, swallowed water/hit his head somewhere and his body sank under the water and was found a day or two later.
It wouldn't be the first or the last accident like this in that area.

there is a similar canal here, a lot of it is low wall and I believe anywhere with high walls there ladders/ropes to grab. I can't remember exactly how frequent they are but similarly close to bars/alleys, too. People drown in it frequently.

have so many great johannes stories. a few of my favorites:
-hes on the final table of EPT london (with peachy actually, he would remember this story). johannes raises i think with AQo from early position, guy shoves something like 8bb, johannes folds and everyone asks him if he realized how short the guy was. and in perfect johannes fashion with his cute german english accent he goes "oh my god then i made a huge mistake!"
-was in san remo italy in 2008 at the EPT tournament. was trying really hard to hit on this super cute dealer while she was waiting to be assigned to a table. she was having none of it and i figured she had a boyfriend or something. but then mid me fumbling around i see her eyes light up and i wondered if it was something i did, nope, i turn and see johannes next to me. she was really excited to see him. what a fucking pimp.
-my buddy who was constantly in a struggle with himself over whether he should have a girlfriend or not was complaining about his relationship issues and johannes came in with some advice "MICHAEL, THIZ IZ A NORMAL PROBLEM, YOU ZEE, MEN ARE HUNTERZ!" just amazing
what a great person he was, always positive and happy. havent seen him in a while, and we only talked 1-3 times a year for past couple years, but i will miss him

if you dont get knocked out, you immediately take off all your clothes, swim until you find anything you can pull yourself out with and get out of there. of course, much easier said than done. very likely you hit your head on something and become disoriented or immediately swallow water upon landing and possible you might have to swim a while before finding a way out. also him being from germany, maybe he never learned to swim? i dont know what its like there.

Ive swum in the sea since I was a child in big waves and strong currents, I body suft waves and consider myself a strong sea swimmer and my GF was born in a beach city and can swim pretty well too, but still one day were drank and smoked a lot of weed and decided to go into a very dangerous beach and swam in the night and the current started pulling us in and the waves were massive and because of the weed we got exhausted very fast, she could barely keep herself afloat and she was starting to panic, I stood there trying to push her into a wave so it would drag her to the shore a few times until one big enough finally dragged her to the beach like a ragdoll and then I rode a wave to the shore myself but damn... but a few more minutes and we would have probably drowned.
So drunk, fully clothed, possibly hurt from the fall into that hard to scape canal it wouldnt surprise me at all he drowned, its way easier than you think

Most drugs with a strong mental effect dont make you reckless (hallucinogens, THC etc) nor impair you physically, the ones that do make you reckless (cocaine based drugs) dont impair you physically and the ones that impair you physically dont make you reckless (Ketamine, opiates and strong hallucinogens)
