Game of thrones series on HBO

nazgul and rhaegar introduced me to these books a few years back. game of thrones is the first book in an epic fantasy series called "a song of ice and fire" that makes lord of the rings look like twilight. they are simply amazing. there are currently 4 books out, the 5th is going to be released in a couple months, and the author plans on writing 2 more after that. highly recommend you read it whether you like the genre or not.

HBO is making a series out of it.

i can't wait for this. Speaking of fantasy epics, i've been reading the Steven Erickson series "a tale of the malazan book of the fallen" which also makes lotr look like twilight.

I'm reading Game of Thrones right now. I got the series last week and I'm halfway through the first book after starting it like five days ago.

These books are absolutely fantastic and its about time that worthless fat fuck finished a dance with dragons.

Sean Bean... Solid ass choice for Ned. I'm only half done with the book but I already recognize everyone. But I think the bish who plays Catelyn looks way too old? The bish who plays Cersei is sexy time. I thought the Dothraki were the blackest of black people?

This book series is one of the greatest works of fantasy of our time imo. So much more readable than Tolkien. Definitely worth checking out. It's been a long wait, but I'm glad he took his time until he was ready to publish. lol... can't believe Amazon remembered my pre-order for Dance since like 2004. It's set for this July and my friend who works for his publisher reported that the final manu is IN.

The HBO series looks pretty awesome. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that their marketing stuff pretty much only appeals to people who are already fans of the books. Like... most of the trailers that are out are fucking sweet, but only if you already know a little about it (like "Oh shit, it's the Hound!" and "Daenerys looks foine". Hopefully, non-readers will tune in anyway, cuz we need 'em for a second season to be approved.

Also, the woman who plays Cersei (Leonidas' wife from 300) should've been Catelyn imo. She's got that sexy but intense, intelligent look that Catelyn needs. Cersei needed to be a busty, natural blond who radiates sex appeal. The other casting choices are pretty spot on though.

Never heard of the books but I immediately knew the HBO series would be good within 10 seconds of seeing the first trailer. You can just spot a good thing coming.

Its been a long wait since i first found out that HBO is going to do it. It seems like its worth it

I loved the first book but got stuck earlyish in the 2nd, is it just that that part is slow or is that the pace for the rest of the series?

I bought the first couple of books about 5/6 years ago then completely forgot about them as I either the next couple hadn't been released and I forgot or am just a fuckwit. Need to do some catching up.


EDIT: definitely a fuckwit - amazon says I ordered 3rd book too (both parts) so it must have been the 4th one I was waiting for.

roman: 2nd book starts a little slow with theon and davos chapters. but it gets really good as it goes on.

martin has praised tolkiens linguistic skills to no end. apparently they hired someone to create the dothraki language for the tv series. pretty awesome stuff.

as for the characters chosen, sean bean is perfect. bran/arya/robb stark all looked perfect. jon snow looked like he was 22. catelyn looked a bit off, but we havent really gotten to know her yet. i think the 300 girl is perfect for cersei if she can be a blonde.

what bothers me a bit is the appearance of characters in the series. it seems they only appear for a few episodes at a time, and that somehow tywin lannister is the star of the show?

though im more exited about the release of the fifth book : a dance with dragons on juli 12th. (wont be convinced till i got it in my hands though, that book was delayed for like 10 years now)

i recommend everybody to read the first book before the first episode.

really well written fantasy for adults. very gritty and unpredictable (people die),
interwoven with a great backstory. im almost finished with my 2nd readthrough, my ranking of the books : 3>1>2>4.

the only problem with the books i have is that they are almost too comlex: hundreds of characters and houses, and the jumping between naratives (and sometimes timelines) can def be confusing.

havent really paid too much attention to the tv series. some of the cast is exactly like i imagined (arya and littlefinger) while others are quite different (catelyn, jon snow) .

the plot will probably be quite different from the books but hbo will manage.

id rather have the next book. but this should be good. HBO always delivers

oh jesus, just realized i thought the curly haired kid was playing robb stark and the taller kid was playing jon snow, but its the opposite. robb stark looks 22 and jon snow looks how robb stark should look! lol

cersei looks perfect. jamie doesnt look how i expected. viserys looks perfect as does dany. overall it appears the show was very well cast and it looks like they are adapting it really really well. i am so pumped
