i think standard penn tdd and speed would win here, johnson's takedowns aren't GSP/fitch level and even GSP only got penn down in the second round of their title fight i think.
johnson would probably be less effective and have less time to grind bj down.
penn decision i think or 3rd round sub

Except Anthony Johnson is big enough to be a heavyweight... I'd easily pick Johnson for 3 rounds of lay and pray.

LOL I'm curious now in a sicko sort of way.
Fair bit of shit has been going down over on bjpenn.com over training etc and why he stopped using the Marinovich brothers. Interesting read as BJ was answering quite a few questions and giving some incites into what goes on behind the scenes.

Commenting on a picture of Chael Sonnen posted on The Underground forum today, Bisping mocked the American’s recent California State Athletic Commission hearing. Sonnen told the hearing he was using hormone replacement for his UFC 117 fight with Anderson Silva because he has under-developed testicles.
“I think Jail just saw Jake Shields in the shower and cant take how large his balls were in relation to his,” Bisping commented underneath the photo, which shows Sonnen next to Shields looking a little cross."
LOL I cannot wait for Bispings vs Sonnen

Never seen anyone as tricked by marketing as you lol.
Silva isn't big in Brazil, even though he is from Brazil, Seagal however is extremely known in Brazil,
and they are both using it to their advantage that massive media whoring is awesome.

heres a rant:
i just got back from RFC 4 which is an mma here in recife - brazil
here is card:
70kg Junior Assunção (Ascension MMA - EUA) VS Wes Murch (ING)
70kg Rafaello Oliveira (AMA Fight Club-EUA) VS Ryan "Bones" Bixler (EUA)
93kg Marcos Rogério "Pezão" (Barbosa Team-SP) VS Rodrigo "Dragão"(PR)
66kg Marcos Vinicius (NineNine-PE) VS Renato Velame(Champion Team-BA)
100kg Cassio "Jacaré" (Jacaré Fight Team) VS "Leleco" Guimarães (Gracie Barra-BA)
61kg Vanessa Porto (SP) VS Kalindra Farias (Gibi Thai-SP)
77kg Thawã Rils (NineNIne-PE) VS Alldyr "Pé" (Gracie Barra/Axé Capoeira-PE)
84kg Jack Godzilla (Kezen-PE) VS Gilvan (Marcos Valle JJ-PE)
84kg Renato Castro (Kezen-PE) VS Paulo Cesar (Punch Team/GF/NineNine-PE)
70kg Pedrinho (Kezen-PE) VS José Angola" (Jacaré Fight Team-PE)
I was especially excited for this fight since for the first time i would see someone fight who i personally knew, my jiu jitsu teacher Renato Castro who was gonna fight his first ever mma fight. He is an amazing jiu jitsu practitioner having won world championship 3 years back if im not mistaken.
He was up against a striker and immediately took a punch or two and tried for the takedown via grabbing one leg which failed ... next few minutes he repeatedly tried the same fail attempt and in numerous occasion got up and gave his back to the striker in which one point the guy kicked him in the ass.. eventually ref stopped the fight from so much beating he was taking and doing absolutely nothing
was quite shocking to me to see my teacher get beat so hard while the guy in jiu jitsu owns so hard
seems like a trend at some of these jj guys that are great on the ground and bad standing that they don't know how to take the opponent down well
anyhow the fights were really bad up until the last two
rafaello oliveira gave an impressive performance vs the american, thought he was really solid and definitely has the potential to be a ufc fighter
and the last fighter, whos brother is already in the ufc, was over in like 30 seconds, guyt chocked the opponent out really fast
and that was the event
ill update post if video ever comes out of the fights
edit:
as promised here is fights:
fight of my jj teacher renato, one of the worst performances i have seen:
fight of godzilla, another guy from my gym, very humble and has some power in him
the last two fights which were the best are not up yet, ill edit again once they are

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income.
In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not represent the total amounts earned by each fighter.

"I feel like I get paid way too much money but not enough"
ROFL...
Nick Diaz is such a faggot, I cant wait for Daley to knock his fucking block off.
The way he opened up that interview is dumb, and he thinks he's too cool for school.
My favorite post from that thread is:
Doctormma
This video should be used as an educational video across gyms in the USA. This is what your brain will look like after serious drug abuse. If this doesn't scare the kids off I don't know what else will. It wasn't the herbal that did this to him.
Let's dissect the ramblings of Mr. Space Cadet Diaz..
Too Many Fights: He has averaged 2 a year for SF.. although being the greedy person he is he jumped to make more money fighting in Japan by choice every year.
Nick if you needed a break you should've said no to the money.
Not Afraid to Fight: There was a huge Mayhem fight on the cards.. but Nick turned it down.. because he didn't want to fight at MW.. but for many other fighters he did go up to MW to fight them. It sounds like he has a chicken farm in his backyard.
Paid Like Elite Fighters: PacMan, Money, GSP, Couture, Wanderlei all have something in common.. they fight the best so get paid exceptionally. Boxing only pays the super elite.. the rest get buttons.. as Diaz has learned they are not interested in paying him big either.
He has an impressive winning streak.. losses to Parisyan, Sanchez, Riggs, Sherk before being cut by the UFC who are middle achievers at best in the UFC won't make for great paydays Nick. You are overpaid.
Scoring System: Nick stated he didn't realize it when he was an 18 year old how to play the rules.. Nick you are not 18 anymore.. the rules haven't changed much.. yet you complain about elbows causing cuts.. and then say you won fights because of damage... and then you lost fights because of damage that you thought you won...? What is it?
You complain about wrestlers playing for points yet you load up on pitter-patter punches that do no damage unless you have reach.. and can keep the opponent away. Which is what you are blessed with.
Sounds like Nick is looking for an advantage on every angle.. but not willing to concede anything.. he knew wrestling was paramount and that is why he spent all these years training his complaints against the system instead of learning to stuff the take-down, or how to out wrestle an opponent to an advantage.
Hey I too think wrestlers can be boring hey BJJ which Nick is a practioner of was the exact reason yellow cards were introduced in the first place.. in Japan.. but I only think people that complain about wrestlers are even more boring.. a great fighter is just that.. no excuses.
That brings us to the yellow cards and his rant.. against the UFC...
Dana White would love to see Yellow Cards Nick.. just imagine Bonuses & Yellow Cards.. Dana would be in heaven... but it is the commissions that say NO!!! You dumb ass.. everyone knows that.
In Japan there were no Commissions that regulated the sport so stomping an opponent on the canvas was cool... a soccer kick that was great.. but lets face reality fighters would die if either of those practices were continued with better fighters in the modern day.
That severe level of trauma to a fighter would cause harm to our sport.
Now I too was a huge Pride fan.. and still believe knees to the head of a downed opponent are legitimate as well as 12 to 6 elbows..
but let us make it clear the only reason for not having YELLOW CARDS ARE THE COMMISSIONS. It has nothing to do with the UFC.
The commissions don't believe that a fighter should be docked his purse for trying to defend themselves, especially in a fight that they are extremely mismatched in, which on occasion will happen.
Fighter safety is the importance.. in those situations.. and although I believe in the Yellow card system.. I agree with the commissions because of the safety. Instead maybe the ref stepping in and docking a point on the round for stalling would be more effectual without harming the safety of those in a weaker position.
Docking the purse.. was sometimes abused in Pride to pay a fighter less.. in some cases both fighters were docked for a close fight that none were stalling in.
Just imagine if your boss could dock your pay not because you weren't great but because you couldn't reach his targets.

Nick Thompson calls it quits on MMA career.
I think Nick fought too much in his career, without stopping and really working on his weak points, like wrestling. I've only seen 2 of his fights, so I cant say anything good/bad about him, but I do know he was weak against a wrestler in his match vs. Askren. Nick is only 29 years old, and fought 53 times.

As a reminder, "UFC Primetime" returns tonight in anticipation of UFC 129's championship main event.
The three-part series focuses on UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (21-2 MMA, 15-2 UFC) and former Strikeforce titleholder Jake Shields (26-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who headlined this month's massive UFC 129 event.
The show debuts tonight (Wednesday, April 13th) at midnight ET/PT (00:01am on Thursday). Two subsequent episodes debut each week in the same timeslot.
Replays of the debut episode air Thursday at 1:30 a.m. ET/PT and 11 p.m. ET/PT. The same goes for the April 21 and April 28 editions.
UFC 129 takes place April 30 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and airs on pay-per-view. The event is sold out with more than 55,000 tickets purchased within the first hour of the on-sale period. It'll be the largest-attended event and biggest gate in North American MMA history.
Different from the UFC's traditional "Countdown" show (which also returns for UFC 129), "UFC Primetime" goes more in depth and focuses on some of the biggest fights of the year. The most recent "Primetime" special, for example, focused on this past October's UFC 121 heavyweight title clash between then-champ Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez.
St-Pierre twice before has been featured in "UFC Primetime" specials. The champ's UFC 111 bout with Dan Hardy drew the extra treatment, as did a UFC 94 fight with B.J. Penn.
Joe Duarte: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus)
def. Saad Awad: $1,500
Herman Terrado: $1,500 ($500 win bonus)
def. A.J. Matthews: $1,000
Rolando Perez: $3,000 ($1,000 win bonus)
def. Tom Peterson: $1,000
Casey Ryan: $2,000 ($1,000 win bonus)
def. Paul Song: $750

Nick Diaz reworks contract, eyes boxing bout with Jeff Lacy. In the article, it says that Fernando Vargas has some medical test/issue preventing his fight against Nick Diaz after they had signed some contract for the fight, but Vargas will be fighting against Henry Buchanan in 2 days after a 3 year retirement. Vargas had talked about returning to the ring for several months, so this issue Cesar Gracie said Vargas had puzzles me, since Vargas is fighting this Friday.
Jon “Bones” Jones may soon need to change his nickname to Superman or Batman.
The current UFC light heavyweight champion has somehow gotten into the hero business, and business is good.
Jones hit the spotlight on March 19, the same day he fought Maurcio “Shogun” Rua for the UFC light heavyweight title when he subdued a thief after he broke into someone’s car and stole their belongings.
Jones, along with his coaches Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson, stopped the thief and held him there until police could arrive to make the official arrest.
While on a business trip to Florida this week, Jones observed a young woman along with her child involved in a somewhat loud conversation over a cell phone while he was checking into his hotel.
Jones overheard the young woman crying because she had apparently flown to Florida to be with her boyfriend, and after an argument ensued, he left her and her child to fend for themselves with no place to stay and an airline ticket for a flight that didn’t depart for two days.
Jones took it upon himself to offer to put the young lady and her child up in the hotel for the time she needed until her flight could take her back home.
It wasn’t until much later that the young woman was told that she wasn’t just helped out by a young man trying to do a good deed, he just happened to be one of the best fighters in the world.
“It’s just a good testament to his character,” Jones’ manager Malki Kawa of Authentic Sports Management, who was with Jones at the hotel, told MMAWeekly.com.
“I mean the guy walks into a hotel on South Beach, expecting maybe to go to bed or maybe go to dinner, and he sees a young lady that he’s got absolutely no responsibility to, and a young boy that’s absolutely not his responsibility, and just being a good citizen overheard a conversation and felt it was important that he handled their situation for that night. Just being the good guy that he is, helped a fellow citizen in need.”
Jones graciously paid for the room and went about his business, after making sure the woman and her child were safe and taken care of until they could make it back home.
The UFC light heavyweight champion might soon have to take on a second job as full-time life saver.
“His bat signal is a JBJ,” Kawa joked about Jon “Bones” Jones, the hero. “You put JBJ up in the clouds, he’ll probably come to the rescue.”

I was listening to a radio talk show just now, Jones has a reoccurring hand injury from college, but it would come and go.
Basically he tore a ligament between his thumb and pointer finger, and he cant make a fist and it hurts when he tries to shake someones hand.
If he lets it heal now, he can have a lengthy career that will last at least another 15 years if he wants it.

Recent UFC signings: Chad Corvin, heavyweight, 6-0, team Etown Beatdown & Stanislav Nedkov, light heavyweight, 11-0, team Bulgarian federation BUSHIDO.
- I think there's some fights that aren't title fights that are main events, and it ends up being three (rounds), and it should have been five. I'm a big fan of it, and we're working on that right now. Lesnar vs. Dos Santos was almost a 5 round fight, except their fight was already lined up and didn't want to change anything. (I personally think they wouldn't mind a 5 round match.)
- As for adding extra rounds to fights that are a draw, like 3 round fights + 1 extra round if its a tie: That's a commission thing, White said. It has nothing to do with me. I hate draws.
- On Nick Diaz going into boxing: I just have to sit down and talk to Nick. It's been a long time since Nick and I have sat down and really talked since when he was in the UFC. I jut want to have the opportunity to talk to him. If I leave there and he says, 'I'm doing this. I want to do this,' then we'll honor the deal.
- On TUF 13: In our deal with Spike TV this season, we don't have as many episodes as we've had in the past. We figured that we would be killing some of the reality. We wouldn't have enough time to tell stories. But we really, really made a big mistake not having these guys fight to get in the house. I guarantee you that will never happen again.
- On the UFC lightweight division + Anthony Pettis: With Jim Miller and Dennis Siver making strides in the 155-pound division, some MMA pundits wondered if former WEC champ Anthony Pettis might be forced to wait for his shot at the UFC crown even if he proves victorious in a June matchup with Clay Guida.
White quickly shot down any potential theories regarding the future of the division. No, White said. "It's Pettis".

all these films look fucking awful. Also the fighters and others are constantly talking about how they are trying to make the sport more mainstream/legitimise it/ improve the public perception of it but next thing you see is them starring in a movie that makes the sport seem like some shady underworld gang organised bull shit. The films are also always terrible.

Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard in August or September at the earliest.
1. So basically if Anthony Pettis wins vs. Clay Guida, we'll see Pettis vs. Edgar/Maynard in December/January at the earliest. (guesstimate)
2. Then, after the winner of Pettis vs. Edgar/Maynard is over, the earliest another title shot would be April/May. (guesstimate)
3. Jim Miller will have 13-14 months of waiting time, so we can see him take 1 more fight and then just wait around for awhile, or possibly take 2 fights, but taking just 1 fight and laying low is his best bet, but either way he has to wait so long to fight for a title shot that 2 other people have to fight for first.
Thoughts?

MMA movie theme - " I'm forced to fight because ..."
- i want revenge for my (father/fight buddy/brother/wife) death or hospitalized in critical condition
- to pay back what my (father/fight buddy/brother/wife) owes these guys
MMA documentary theme - "It's a hard life really..."
- no, really man, we're all white here but it's still a tough sport
- i grew up in a farm and got a free college education because of wrestling and decided to do this fight club thing for a living now I'm broke
- even though i get twice the recognition and pay for the same amount of hard work a boxer does, it's really tougher because we white guys deserve better in life unlike those black/hispanic boxing guys

pro boxers dont even get paid nothing and lets face it, its hard to get boxing events running if ever at all, most boxers will never get paid 11k a year. usually boxers get close to nothing but you never see a documentary about them complaining about it since most of them come from really poor backgrounds and/or work a regular job to support themselves.
its different from country to country but i lived near a boxing stable before and got to be friends with a lot of them and asked about hwo much they made, how they regularly fix fights etc, it was really the worst living conditions, plus their food was crap. i dont blame boxers trying to make the switch to MMA, but this kind of working condition has been in boxing culture since forever.
I like MMA though, just that I get why boxers and boxing fans are semi-bitter about the MMA fighting thing. Also i find the movies and documentaries mostly bad, except for 1 or 2.

If UFC paid a tad more for their fights I think the level of competition would increase because 1) fighters will have more time training, less time working jobs 2) More people joining MMA competitions
I'm pretty sure they are doing really well right now, but obviously I dont have access to their records

Jim Miller vs Ben Henderson set!
I feel bad that Miller isn't getting a shot yet, but that's the LW division for you and he'll probably beat Bendo. I'm thinking some sort of finish too! he brings the noise too hard for it to go to a decision
Apparently a bunch of people are posting how they expected this. They think Brock Lesnar's name was used to draw people to watch the TUF 13 show. That would make sense why Shane Carwin was originally given an opponent to face by the name of Jon Olav Einemo (6-1) who hasn't fought since November 2006. It's pretty easy to scrap that fight and not have to find a replacement for Jon Olav Einemo while Carwin easily steps in for Lesnar.

Oops, UFC on a downswing?
First Edgar and Maynard now Lesnar, damn.
Btw Carwin opened at +190 which i think will go down as the fight nears, he looked slimmer 2 weeks ago at UFC 129, maybe he has some cardio now lol.

Jones declines surgery, could still face Evans before year's end. Rather than fixing his hand now, he'd rather skip surgery since it's optional, and face future hand pains and possibly hurt his hand further in the future. So Rashad steps to him after he beats Shogun, then Jones vs. Evans is set, Jones pulls out because he hurt his hand, then Evans vs. Davis is set, now Jones says he wants to skip the surgery which he is now told is optional and says he can fight later this year. It makes no sense to not get the surgery now and have your hand be fixed for the future since its the smart thing to do and especially since your competition will be fighting during that time. http://mmajunkie.com/news/23598/ufc-c...still-face-evans-before-years-end.mma
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko in the works for UFC 133 in August. (This should happen since there's nobody else to match them up with atm.)
Former WEC vice president Peter Dropick has replaced Scott Coker as Strikeforce's No. 1 guy, and UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby has taken over matchmaking duties. Only Coker and his assistant remain as full-time employees according to several recent reports.

It was from a credible boxing source, but Juan Manuel Marquez has a fight with David Diaz on July 2nd, if JMM beats Diaz then a rematch vs. PacMan might happen, we'll see.
Things are kinda crappy atm in boxing, but there are some good fights to watch here and there, and if you only focus on the PacMan matches then you'll forever be pissed off cuz nobody will beat him within the next 3 years and I doubt Mayweather will ever fight him. I dunno who ducking who, so I say fuck them both.
My brain is too forgetful to remember PacMan vs. JMM's 2 fights, but the first was a draw, the second was a split decision.
Do you remember if JMM got owned?

- After almost 2 years of being put on the back burner of the UFC due to injuries and an abnormality found in a brain scan, Tim Credeur makes his return to MMA this Saturday versus Ed Herman at UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale". In Fall 2011, an MMA documentary titled "Fightville" will be released, which partially focuses on Tim Credeur and Dustin Poirier before they made it to the big show. - Strikeforce finally will air preliminary events! Well, just for their Fedor vs. Henderson card so far. Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. They also do not include portions of the pay-per-view revenue that some top-level fighters receive.
For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $70,000 UFC 130 bonuses to Browne ("KO of the Night"), Tibau ("Submission of the Night"), and Stann and Santiago ("Fight of the Night").
In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.
- John Ott was owned for 3 rounds by Jake Rosholt at Titan Fighting Championship 18 this past weekend, luckily for Ott, Rosholt accidentally hit Ott with an illegal knee when he was almost all the way off the mat, which then the match was declared a DQ win for Ott after Jake had won every round decisively. So what if he has won by submission? he is not a masochist, he is just a huge moron who thinks he is some kind of medieval warrior and not just some guy in shorts in a sport.
Maybe im a sadist but id like to see him fight a bjj monster and get to watch him try to stop his bones from being shattered with his chi lol and hopefully he never recovers properly.
This idiot who dont tap are really bad for the sport, one of mma's biggest obstacle to grow even bigger its because many think its too violent, and it sure doesnt help seeing people with broken bones or being choked unconscious because they have a medieval mentality.

can someone explain testosterone replacement therapy? i can't believe any fighter would need that unless they previously took so many steroids that their body couldn't properly produce testosterone anymore.

Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. Way to totally not refute my argument and say some idiotic comeback that has nothing to do with it, the gracies helped MMA a lot obviously, but its has evolved and unless you can elaborate a REASON why never tapping out is good for MMA then dont reply.

Big drama concerning the newly slated Evans vs. Ortiz 2 fight.
White today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Lyoto Machida initially agreed to replace Phil Davis and fight Rashad Evans at UFC 133 before balking and demanding "Anderson Silva money" to step in on short notice.
And while White openly admitted prior to Ortiz's UFC 132 contest that a loss would mean his release from the UFC, the UFC boss said that will not be the case at UFC 133. In fact, not only is Ortiz's career not on the line – he may actually find himself in title-shot discussions should he upset Evans.
1. Tito will earn a fat paycheck for taking this fight. It will at least be $450k, considering that's what he got for his win over Bader.
2. If Tito loses, he still gets another fight in the UFC.
3. If Tito wins, he gets a bunch more money + PPV % (so I assume), and he'll also be "in the mix" on his way to a potential title shot.

Would be some sick shit if Tito actually pulls it off (there was a lot of doubt w Ryan Bader b/c he's honestly overrated). He'd be in serious title contention. Maybe #1 title contender fight w/ Machida then if he wins that (wtf?) he can get the winner of Jones vs Rampage. Who knows what will happen since Rashad last fight was over a year ago..
I'm a firm believer in ring-rust. War Tito!

Some fans have posted that this is a move to get Overeem to UFC sooner, instead of later.
It makes sense if you think about it, the Strikeforce Grand Prix would finish in January 2012 or so, and it would be better if someone aside Overeem won the grand prix, since it would bring more buzz to the heavyweight scene.
Future fight idea:
- Overeem vs. UFC heavyweight champion.
- Strikeforce grand prix winner vs. UFC heavyweight champion.
- Overeem vs. Strikeforce grand prix champion and winner is #1 contender for UFC heavyweight title.
- Strikeforce grand prix winner vs. UFC heavyweight champion, Overeem fights the winner.
- Overeem vs. UFC heavyweight champion, winner fights Strikeforce grand prix winner.

^ Thiago Alves is 1-3 in his last 4 fights, he needs a win badly. You can tell when a fighter draws a lot of fans to the UFC when they are kept around after multiple losses and/or are given a new fighter to the UFC who's from overseas.
Papy Abedi is an 8-0 Judo fighter with 5 wins via KO, 2 via submission, so this is most likely going to be a standup war for Thiago, which is his specialty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papy_Abedi
I think the UFC brings in guys like Papy Abedi and Jorge Santiago, who are known fighters overseas with good records, and then feed them to UFC fighters that are up and coming that need wins vs. notable guys like Brian Stann vs. Jorge Santiago (Santiago is good but is well known for having a weak chin and his first fight back in the UFC is vs. a heavy handed fighter, Santiago usually has decent standup but its vs. weaker opponents then Stann, and Santiago usually tries to get it to the ground at some point, which Stann was prepared for), and now Thiago Alves vs. Papy Abedi (should be a pure standup fight with Abedi underestimating the power of Alves). (Just my guess)

Alistair Overeem cut from Strikeforce
(Most of what is said below has been taken from various news articles mixed with a little bit of my own words, which is why it will look like things are jumbled together.)
----------
Earlier this week it was reported that Alistair Overeem had been removed from the Strikeforce Grand Prix tournament, and Daniel Cormier would take his place. With Overeem himself saying he had a broken toe, Scott Coker said Overeem's job wasn't in jeopardy and that he still had one fight left on his Strikeforce contract.
Shortly after it was announced that Alistair Overeem had been released by Strikeforce, the latest episode of his video documentary "The Reem" hit the web.
Why is this significant?
Because the video showcases an important piece of the puzzle. On top of running through his fight against Fabricio Werdum on June 18th in Texas, it also fasts forward to about a month later and showcases "Demolition Man's" trip to the hospital.
During his time there, Overeem proclaims that he "must prove" his injuries are real and proceeds to get his ribs x-rayed to determine any damage. Sure enough, the doctor explains that he has a broken rib and advises him not to fight until he no longer feels any pain.
Nevertheless, Overeem was recently booked for a kickboxing match that will take place at the United Glory event in October, in his native Netherlands.
Barring a surprise move to the UFC, Overeem is going to be the sport's top free agent – but one far too expensive for most organizations to afford.
Overeem, who hasn't been defeated in four years and his past 11 fights, won the Strikeforce belt in 2007 and defended the title just once (against Brett Rogers) during his reign. The run included numerous overseas fights for other organizations, as well as an active K-1 kickboxing career.
"If anyone reads the UG forum there's a guy named Hammers Hamil who posted about Brocks surgery before it happened, and A few days ago posted about Reem being stripped of his title etc. He has an inside source at SF. He doesn't post here so i'm just relaying them to this forum.
Anyways he posted tonight which is interesting because he's been accurate so far.
Again this is just RUMORS but rumors from an accurate source. This is just for discussion purposes right now."
Josh barnett is not a lock as of yet for the tourny as ohio obides with csac and nsac zuffa is trying to smooth things over but been told it can happen but is not guaranteed... Werdum has been told to keep in shape and training cause he will be brought back into the tourny... Heat on sergei for taking that kickboxing match and may get shown the door also if that fight happen lots going on in strikeforce land...

I srsly want Rampage to win but Jones will fuck him up. Also what he needs to work on is his heart and stamina coz he has got to be one of the worst in that area. If he just had the confidence it would be a great fight.

If Jones trains as hard as it seemed he had been doing up till now, I think he'll win as well, pretty convincingly. Maybe if Rampage isn't bullshitting and is training the hardest he ever has, it might be a lot more exciting though, weird he beat lyoto, can't quite remember the fight, but think I thought it was weird he got that win, either way, hope for good fights <3

jones could probably not train a single day till the fight and win fairly easy
i would be extremely surprised if jones-rampage was anything besides a humiliating fight... please dont try to hype this fight it will be extremely one sided even though i want a miracle win for rampage

- Dana White calls Yushin Okami the best Japanese fighter ever. (Probably because Okami is under the Zuffa banner and "beat" Anderson Silva years ago.)

Things to think about an Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar match:
- Overeem is asking for the highest profile heavyweight in the UFC, the UFC are happy to oblige.
- Overeem is on a 10 fight win streak, but they're all against opponents who like to stand and bang and aren't as good at it as he is. He submitted 5 of those 10 guys.
- Overeem cant go a full 3 rounds in MMA without gassing, he slows down mid-late 2nd round, and he's only had 3 fights that went to the 3rd round in his 47 fight MMA career. (He was barely able to talk in the interview after he won, and he spent a lot of time deflecting Werdum's weak attempts to go to the ground and he was also standing up and waiting for Werdum a lot, so him gassing was weird since they didn't fight a lot.)
- Overeem vs. Werdum was the Reem's only 3 round MMA fight since his 3 round unanimous decision win over Vitor Belfort in June 2006. (videos below)
- I do believe that Overeem has decent BJJ like high profile fighters/trainers/news people have said. (16 of his 35 wins via submission, but the only known guys he submitted were Vitor Belfor and Paul Buentello, the rest were cans/nobodies.)
- Overeem has never faced a good wrestler, let alone a top wrestler.
- Brock has shown he can take a lot of punishment to the face and wont get knocked out.
- Overeem would have a tough time against the strength, size, movement, ability to go at least 3 rounds without gassing, although this would be a 5 round fight with the UFC's new rules for main event non-title matches.
- Brock is a good wrestler, wrestling is often referred to as the best MMA base to have out of all the fighting style. That being said, Overeem is known for his knees and Thai plum that he puts people in to deliver said knees, but as you can see in his fight vs. Vitor Belfort, if your opponent knows you use knees a lot he can catch your leg and pick you up in the air and slam you to the ground where he'll be on top pounding you.
- Overeem's main fighting style comes from his Dutch background, where they train everyday for big events such as K-1. In K-1, fights are crazy but they stand in front of each other and attack, you can see Alistair always waiting to get directly in front of his opponent when he throws punches and kicks, he doesn't have any foot-work like you would see boxers or some top strikers in MMA have, he keeps coming forward at you until he finds the best time to setup his base and attack.
- This is literally the perfect fight that the UFC could dream of. The UFC gets:
1. The only top heavyweight that's not signed by the UFC.
2. All of this international fame that Overeem brings plus all of the fame Brock brings.
3. The true Strikeforce heavyweight champion, even though he doesn't have the belt anymore.
4. A guy that is thought to be the most feared striker in the world with no wrestling ability.
5. A way to finally close the chapter on the UFC really having the best fighters in the world and there wont be anyone left outside of the organization that could come close to the skill and fame as their fighters.
6. If Overeem fights and loses to Brock, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut him or give him another good ground guy to lose to like Shane Carwin or Frank Mir.
Alistair Overeem vs. Vitor Belfort - Strikeforce: Revenge (June 2006) + Show Spoiler +
Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum - Strikeforece Grand Prix 2011 + Show Spoiler +
I want and hope Alistair Overeem would come to the UFC and win the title, but against guys like Brock Lesnar who has mediocre striking but the ability to take you down at anytime due to his size and strength, Cain Velasquez who's good at striking and wrestling, then Junior Dos Santos who has massive power in his hands and has good foot-work and doesn't usually gas out, it will be a tough road to the top for The Reem if he really wanted to prove he was the best. (Overeem personally said that only Cain and JDS are above him in the heavyweight rankings.)

UFC announces seven-year deal with FOX, debuts live with its first event on November 12th
UFC and FOX officials today announced a new seven-year, multimedia-rights agreement that includes four live events broadcast in prime time on FOX, as well as four to six live events each year on FOX's cable network, FX.
FX and FUEL TV also will broadcast extensive UFC programming, including live fights, pre- and post-event shows, countdown shows, "UFC Unleashed," "UFC Primetime," "UFC Knockouts," "Best of PRIDE" and weigh-in specials, as well as "The Ultimate Fighter reality series," which will now feature live fights and fan-voted matchups during two annual seasons.
The UFC's first FOX-broadcast event takes place Nov. 12. UFC president Dana White said the likely host city for the event is Anaheim, Calif. He did not reveal any fights for the card.
"We're excited to be part of the FOX family," White stated in an official release. "The UFC is finally where it belongs on the No. 1 network in the country and aligned with the most prestigious sports properties in the world. I've always said that the UFC will be the biggest sport in the world, and with this relationship it will become a reality."
As the UFC previously announced, FOX Deportes also will feature UFC programming.
"My brother Frank, Dana and I always believed that our passion for the sport of mixed martial arts would help us to build the UFC into a successful global brand and ultimately make it one of the premier sports properties in the world," UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta stated. "The partnership with FOX is a major step in making this a reality and also builds on the great relationship that we already have established with FOX in Latin America, Australia and Europe."
- Is FOX the largest sports network? Yes! They show the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, NCAA Football including the BCS, they also own various regional sports networks including The Big Ten Network, Fox Soccer Channel, Speed Channel and Fox College Sports and now the UFC.
- Dana White gives the breakdown on the whole deal in his interview with Karyn Bryant. + Show Spoiler +
- The first announced fight for UFC's first show on Fox is Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza.
- How much is FOX paying the UFC annually for its seven-year deal made official today? Around an average of $100 million per year, according to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal. When compared to the deal the UFC had with Spike, for around $35 million per year.
- Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan will call the events on FOX and FX, but now there's a lot more work to do since this will be a bigger production, so the UFC/Fox will be bringing in additional people.

Lesnar wouldn't gas in a 3 round fight vs. Overeem (although they would be fighting in a 5 round non-title fight), if he felt the need to get his energy back he could take Overeem down at ease and eat a punch going for the take down if necessary. I've watched Lesnar's boxing get slightly better in each of his UFC fights, and while it's not great, it is improving with each fight. My problem with Overeem is how he needs to setup his Muay Thai base before attacking you. I do like the fact that Overeem showed some good TDD against Werdum, but Werdum doesn't have the power and strength that Lesnar has and Werdum never tried any wrestling take downs.

Which Overeem have you been watching?
Do you think Lesnar will stay standing all 3-5 rounds?
Lesnar will probably come fast at Overeem like he did with Cain and Shane. I think that this would be a problem for Overeem, not because he isn't used to fast paced fights, but someone who comes right at him and will press up against him and take him down vs. his usual opponents who might come at him fast but stay on the outside with strikes since he doesn't fight wrestlers, let alone any good to top wrestlers.
What happens if Lesnar defends in round 1 and it goes to round 2 and Lesnar takes Overeem down and lays on top of him for a bit to catch his breath and land some hammer fists, all that weight on someone who hasn't had to face someone that huge laying on top of him and landing punches, let alone laying on top of him in general.
These two fighters style clash, that's pretty much it. Top striker with some okay BJJ vs. a top wrestler with some okay boxing.
If you took a moment and looked at the variables, a finish in round 1 favors Overeem, round 2 is where it starts to change, but if Lesnar takes it to round 3/4/5, it doesn't look good for Overeem.
What happens if the Lesnar takes him down in round 1 right away, Overeem would gas even faster, so it just depends.
Like I said already, I'm rooting for Overeem, but there's more chances for him to lose in this fight compared to his last 10 fights, but if he can get the win it will be so big for his career in the UFC.
Lets hope that the UFC makes this fight happen.

Overeem has shown in his K1-fights which went the distance (not much since he pretty much owned it) that he has pretty good stamina. In his fight against Spong in last year's GP he did pretty well against someone that was able to put pressure on him for 3 entire rounds. So unless Lesnar is able to take Overeem down a couple of times / for a good length of time and is able to put his weight on him, I don't see how Overeem should gas THAT much quicker than Lesnar.
And Lesnar might be a good wrestler but for wrestling you have to close the distance first, and Overeem is packing some serious power in his arms en knees. So I am not sure if Lesnar is really that willing to keep closing the distance untill he takes him down, could be taking some serious damage whilst trying.
I think it's going to be pretty close, and I agree that once the fights gets to the later rounds the edge will go to Lesnar. But I disagree that this will be starting at round 2 already, and I :
1) Don't believe that Lesnar will jump full throttle in Overeem's punches and knees to get the early takedown
2) Don't think Overeem is THAT easily gassed
Should be a very, very interesting fight.

Defend on the first round? you mean stand up against overeem? there is no way he can trade with overeem for over 30 seconds without getting TKOd Lesnar's only hope is to grind him early on, i think it all comes down to that, if Overeem manages to avoid takedowns then he will crush Lesnar, and TD defense is probably the only thing he has been training lately.

lesnar's gonna get raped. two handed thai clinch and its GG. in k1 they cant do two hands no more (only one hand then release) because of ppl like reem and bob sapp who just abuse the move coz no one gets out of that once those two get hold of your neck. That and elbows to the face being legal i dunno, reem is prob excited to fight anybody who doesnt have werdum like bjj skills just so that he can strike with impunity.

Epic matchup OMG. My predictions: this is gonna be level 1 metagame between these two. Reem trying to keep it standup, Brock trying to take it to the ground. I give the edge to Overeem though, he's just all around better. I think he can stuff enough takedowns, and even if he gets on the ground, his BJJ has to be better than Brocks. Brock only knows 1 or 2 good chokes and ground n pound.

- Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson possibly to headline UFC on FOX's first show on November 12th if Silva wins his match against Yushin Okami at UFC 134.
The fight, were it to happen, would take place at middleweight and would presumably be for the 185-pound title. In the event that Henderson does not agree to terms with Zuffa on the fight, Chael Sonnen would reportedly be taken out of his fight against Brian Stann and would be granted his rematch against Silva.
Stann would then potentially go on to fight Vitor Belfort.

UFC: Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem set for Dec. 30
September 6, 2011 | 12:16 pm 05
Brock Lesnar will return to the UFC octagon in a five-round main event Dec. 30 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, facing newly signed former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.
"Brock is a big name, a dangerous guy, and this is a dream matchup," Overeem told The Times on Tuesday, just after signing a standard UFC fight contract in the office of Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta. "Brock's a big guy, an exciting wrestler with his takedowns.
"I want to see this fight myself. Overall, I'm a different fighter. A striker, athletic, big. These are going to be two big trucks going at it on a collision course."
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Overeem, 31, is a former K-1 kickboxing champion too, He most recently defended his Strikeforce belt in June with a unanimous decision over takedown specialist Fabrio Werdum, who had previously defeated Fedor Emelianenko.
Lesnar has been out of action since losing his UFC heavyweight belt to Cain Velasquez in October at Anaheim's Honda Center, suffering a return episode of the intestinal ailment diverticulitis.
The Dec. 30 winner will be first in line to fight the winner of a Nov. 12 fight between Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.
"This is the fight the fans want," UFC President Dana White said. "Both of these guys are monsters. Can Lesnar take Overeem down?"
Fertitta said the Strikeforce belt won't be part of the promotion. The UFC has purchased Strikeforce.
"Our thinking when we bought Strikeforce was to give fans the fights they want," Fertitta said. "Obviously, Alistair's one of the best heavyweights in the world, but he also has that 'it' factor -- the tremendous look, he's huge. It's a star factor."
Overeem said he's exploring setting up training headquarters in Los Angeles.
Poker chobo.

Fedor Emelianenko vs Jeff Monson confirmed for a Nov. 12th M-1 event to be held in Russia.
I think it's a good fight for Fedor to try and reset his career after the recent slump he has gotten into.
On perhaps the biggest night for mixed martial arts (MMA) in the relative short history of the sport -- the debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on FOX Sports -- one of its all-time great heavyweight fighters will take on a journeyman half a world away.
Former number one UFC heavyweight contender Jeff Monson just "confirmed" that he will headline an M-1-promoted event that is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2011, in Russia opposite MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.
No exact location or venue is known at this time.
Emelianenko was recently released from his contract with Strikeforce after a first round technical knockout loss to Dan Henderson in late July. It marked the third consecutive defeat for "The Last Emperor," who amassed one of the most impressive career resumes in the history of organized fighting under the Pride FC banner prior to the slump.
The Russian cyborg, who has called five different promotions home during his decade-long career, refused to hang up the gloves after his most recent loss to Henderson, which he felt was perhaps stopped too soon.
He'll get his chance for redemption when he takes on the "Snowman," a 54-fight veteran, who has won eight of his last nine bouts against no one really that noteworthy.
Monson most recently dropped a unanimous decision to Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce: "Overeem vs. Werdum" on June 18, 2011. The American Top Team (ATT)-trained fighter looked every one of his 40 years, getting battered and bruised by the much quicker, and younger, heavyweight prospect.
Despite his lackluster performance, Monson, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and a two-time ADCC champion, remains a significant threat to submit anyone if he can get the fight to the floor. Emelianenko, however, has been tapped just once (Antonio Silva) in 36 career fights.
It's unclear at this time if the event will air on Showtime, which still has a contract for Emelianenko's services under the M-1 brand.
This is pretty dissapointing, atleast Carlos Condit is super legit and i expect a nice fight, oh well Diaz gonna Diaz.

Yeah, just read it right now.
Fucking Diaz, what a joke. He's supposed to be a MexiCan, not a MexiCant.
Who wouldn't show up for press releases when they obviously know how big they are for the UFC's promotion? Even people who are terrible at speaking and handling crowds like Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller would never do something like this.
I hope Dana White keeps Nick Diaz and puts him on the shelf for the rest of this year, that way he learns his lesson. Either way Diaz is in a bad situation, he doesn't have his Strikeforce belt anymore after signing with the UFC, and he has no title shot anymore. Even if he were to make up some excuse for his actions and get a title shot after Carlos Condit, he would need to pick up another fight because it would be 7-8 months before the next GSP match. (heal injuries, vacation, after fight promotional stuff, start training for camp again, plus the fact that GSP cleaned out his division so he doesn't fight often as others)
Gonna go exercise and then lay out at the pool, it's sunny today. Will update news later.

- Nick Diaz out, Carlos Condit in against champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137. (Nick Diaz missed both press meetings in Canada and Las Vegas, he also isn't answering or calling back Dana White, UFC officials, or his own manager Cesar Gracie. Dana White said: "Diaz is going to hear on the news that he's no longer fighting Georges St-Pierre, maybe he'll call me then.") http://mmajunkie.com/news/25127/nick-...hamp-georges-st-pierre-at-ufc-137.mma

- Dream 17 will air LIVE, September 24th on HDNet.
Official numbers for the most recent Strikeforce event hasn't been released yet, but top MMA news reporters said it was between 1500 - 2000 people in attendance.
Strikeforce is literally bleeding money in every event they hold, and with payouts like the ones from the Grand Prix semifinals, it's no wonder why.
- $10k for a 4-0 Olympic wrestler making his Strikeforce debut, who lost.
- $13k for Maximo Blanco, who entered this fight 8-2 on a 6 win streak and his biggest win was against Rodrigo Damm (sigh), and he lost his fight.
- $80k for Roger Gracie, he entered this fight with a 4-0 record, 3 of his wins were against guys who were way past their prime and seriously washed up and are now retired. His 4th win was against Trevor Prangley, who's past his prime at 39 years of age and is 1-3-1 in his last 5 fights. Is Gracie the best BJJ practitioner in the world? According to his family he is. Is he good at MMA? No.
- King Mo only got $85k for his win over Roger Gracie, and Mo's last match was when he lost his belt to Rafael Cavalcante. Mo entered this fight with a 7-1 record, now 8-1.
- I cant judge the bloated prizes for the Grand Prix fights, since they are special, but damn those payouts are big for everyone.

Come on, he clearly isn't saying that. I know when I read those figures on another site I thought they were high for a lot of fighters. If the Strikeforce division of Zuffa can afford those payouts and be sustainable then more power to the fighters. Otherwise it could be a case of "Strikeforce is no longer sustainable as a business therefore we will integrate it into UFC". Which would be good for some name fighters and good for fans who want to see certain matchups but for a lot of low to mid tier fighters it's gonna suck as they will probably be out of a job.
Really looking forward to Lesnar/Reem. Heard it opened as a pick em. Lesnar gets pummeled in the standup by Cain, now he is supposed to stand a chance against the K1 champ?

what? i think we have very little information to judge this, it would be interesting to hear what Nazgul or others think about this but most overeem losses arent really meaningful to the fighter he is today, Overeem is the best HW striker in MMA and so far he hasnt fought a very strong wrestler however Werdum couldnt even get close to take him down.
I simply dont see where you can base that opinion, if you say Cain has an edge ok thats debatable but saying they are on a completely different level is just plain dumb

How can Reems standup be remotely on question? there is no "equal if not better", Reem is 10 times better at striking than Cain, just put Cain in a K1 match and watch him get demolished

This, Cain has decently good MMA striking, Overeem is a K-1 champion, who wins when they fight in MMA though is a completely different question.
Overeem - Lesnar should be a fun fight if Brock can get a take down early on, otherwise he'll be performing some sweet dance moves once again.

I never said fighters don't deserve money. I said that Strikeforce is literally bleeding money, which they are.
Strikeforce fighter contracts are bloated, it's part of the problem they have. Another part of their problem is that they're having less and less people attend their events, no matter how many good fights they have on the preliminary and main card, as shown by this past weekend when about 2,000 people showed up for the Grand Prix semifinal after Strikeforce had once again given out many tickets and still couldn't get people to want to use their free tickets.
If you're spending almost $1 million dollars for the prize payout for a stacked card such as this, and only 2,000 people show up to watch even when handing out free tickets, and there's no money to be made from PPV since it was shown on HDNet and Showtime, you're in some serious trouble. (Example: UFC 132 payroll was $1.277 million, their live attendance was 13,109 attendees for $2.3 million live gate, although 5,036 of those tickets were free tickets. This doesn't count PPV buys.) (Couldn't find the payroll for UFC 133/134.)
----------
Both Strikeforce and Bellator had shows going on at the same time. Bellator had around the same amount of viewers it usually gets, even when there's a UFC/Strikeforce event on the same day.
(Taken from MMA Junkie) The top-five and bottom-five Strikeforce-Showtime broadcasts include:
1. "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva" (February 2011): 741,000 viewers
2. "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" (June 2011): 624,000
3. "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg" (August 2009): 576,000
4. "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson" (July 20011): 571,000
5. "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg" (January 20011): 561,000
14. "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II" (December 2010): 341,000
15. "Strikeforce: Evolution" (December 2009): 330,000
16. "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery" (May 2010): 308,000 17. "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" (September 2011): 274,000
18. "Strikeforce: Los Angeles" (June 2010): 164,000
----------
TLDR, Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov:
- $942,000 fighter payroll
- 274,000 Showtime TV viewers vs. 235,000 Bellator 49 on MTV2 viewers, both events held at the same time
- About 2,000 people in attendance, give or take a couple thousand
- Strikeforce fighter contracts are bloated
- Strikeforce is literally bleeding money with every show
which reflects how clueless the average mma fan is... that card was fucking awesome and exciting
but yeah the payouts are stupid i mean, why would you pay 100k + 50k bonus to Cormier? he is a nobody how on earth has he earned 6 figures payouts, Roger Gracie 80k? wtf... he has only beaten cans so far, sure he is promising and shit but he doesnt deserve such payout yet, as he proved.
- Cain Velasquez shows off his dance moves on UFC Latino. + Show Spoiler +
- Alexis Vila trains for his Bellator debut against Joe Warren. (Alexis Vila, bronze Olympic medal in freestyle wrestling, 2 gold medals/1 silver from World Championships, 1 gold medal in Pan-American Games) vs. (Joe Warren, gold Olympic medal in Greco Roman wrestling, 1 gold in Pan American Championships, 1 gold in World Cup) + Show Spoiler +

Lyoto Machida's path to the title:
- Lose 2 fights in a row to two old school fighters with an old fighting style, which they continue to use and refuse to adapt to new fighting styles.
- Win 1 fight against the oldest fighter in the UFC who was on his way out the door anyway, via "jumping front kick" to the face, which the old man wouldn't have been able to block in his prime.
- Wait around for 5+ months after your last fight in hopes you will be able to replace someone in a title match since you know that your boss knows you're top 5 in the division, and your name will be one of the first to come up as a replacement.
- Jon Jones fought in March, Lyoto fought in April, Lyoto knew Jones would have another match before he would and could possibly lose the match, which means Lyoto would get to fight an easier opponent, probably one he beat already, or his opponent would get injured and Lyoto could step in.
Anyone remember Lyoto ever getting injured while in the UFC? Bad enough to make him step away from a fight. As far as I know, he never gets majorly hurt and was the technician before he got figured out, similar to where Jon Jones is at right now.

What I want to know is, why did they promote Tavares vs. Jacoby to the main card, and leave Siver vs. Cerrone on the SpikeTV card. Both Siver/Cerrone will "bring it", so I don't see how they didn't get their fight promoted. Siver is on 4 win streak and Cerrone is on a 5 win streak. Siver is known for his standup and while the commentators always talk about Cerrone's standup, 12 of his 16 wins come by submission.
Main Card
BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz
Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione
Mirko Filipović vs. Roy Nelson
Brad Tavares vs. Dustin Jacoby
Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop
Preliminary card (Spike TV)
Dennis Siver vs. Donald Cerrone

My thinking is to promote the PPV? I don't think anyone would specifically buy the PPV to see either bout (so there won't be lost sales by either being on Spike) so may as well have the 'higher chance of being a good fight' on Spike to draw people in.

If a main card fight gets cancelled, they leave the spike prelims as-is and move a fight from the undercard to the main card. This is what they've done the last couple times.

- Donald Cerrone vs. Nate Diaz official, granted co-main-event status for UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem. (Weird fight since Nate Diaz is 1-2 in his last 3, while Cerrone is on a 6 fight win streak and will crush Diaz ez pz.)
- UFC 141 adds Manny Gamburyan vs. Diego Nunes and Junior Assuncao vs. Ross Pearson.
- UFC 137 salaries: Diaz ($200K), Penn ($150K) and Kongo ($140K) top fighter payroll. + Show Spoiler +
The full payouts included:
Nick Diaz: $200,000 (no win bonus)
def. B.J. Penn: $150,000
* - Although not recognized on the official pay sheet, Griffin was fined $8,500 for missing weight for the fight, and contracts were reworked with those amounts. That money was issued to Palaszewski, an NSAC official confirmed with MMAjunkie.com. Otherwise, Griffin would have made $34,000 and Palaszewski would have made $20,000.
For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $75,000 UFC 137 bonuses to Palaszewski ("KO of the Night"), Cerrone ("Submission of the Night"), and Diaz and Penn ("Fight of the Night").
In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

I wouldn't be so sure about this, Nate Diaz's 2 losses came from when he was still in welterweight and he fought 2 strong wrestlers and lost via decisions. Cerrone's gonna scrap and we know any Diaz can scrap.

@Jyhun, we can bet on Cerrone/Diaz if you want. A small non-money bet, maybe loser takes a pic in their underwear/boxers with a LP.net logo on their chest for the rest of us to laugh at.
Diaz was facing bigger guys and he can also take a beating, but Cerrone will be the best striker he has faced and can handle himself on the ground. IMO, Nate is a weaker version of Nick. Nick hasn't faced elite strikers, only strikers who are made to sound elite via whatever commentator is hyping them up, and Nate has faced good strikers and lost to them.
- UFC 138 loses Paul Taylor vs. Anthony Njokuani; Cyrille Diabate vs. Anthony Perosh promoted to main card. (Taylor suffered whiplash in a recent car accident.)

really? 100k for velasquez? thats pretty sad
breaks all records of viewers.. in brazil alone ~ 60kk viewers and wins 100k
thats like pocket change money for most top athletes give me a break
i know he won way more than that but the official value is ridic
100k $ is what Mariusz Pudzianowski gets for his fights in Poland. Average Polish boxer Albert Sosnowski(yes you probably never heard of him and never will) got 1mln $ for his fight against Klitshko year ago. UFC and ZUffa are greedy bastards who's got enough money to buy every competition and give fighters scraps of their profits.
Adapt or die.

Well compare UFC athletes to other mainstream athletes like basketball, baseball, football players etc. who play games 1-3 games per week, along with the whole range of merchandise that is sold with player's names on it (jersey's, shoes, hats etc.) How often are you going to run into someone wearing a Kobe Jersey vs someone wearing something Cain Velasquez written on it? Plus also keep in mind that UFC was near bankrupt in the 90's, and just started to turn a profit in the mid 2000's and is now just becoming somewhat mainstream. But yeah UFC athletes should definitely get paid more but it's going to take a few more years, unless there's some credible source that says Dana is a billionaire already. IMO all other athletes get paid way too fkn much, don't know if there's any reasonable way to deal with that issue though.

^valid point but then u could say the same thing about boxing but they make way more and the # of viewers on each one are similar with the difference that ufc has more events
of course boxing has been around for long time but the disparity of 100k to 15kk is really big

GSP said he makes between $4 and $5million per fight, and i think his ufc official payment is around $200k, so that number is just a number anyway. I guess Velasquez makes at the very least 1/10 of what GSP makes, and that's a very nice payout imo.

I seen a video of GSP dancing at a night club, he reminded me of Jean Claude Van Damme dancing in one of his movies, but even JCVD got massive vag in the 80s.

My god, GSP... Dunno what to say except I cant remember the last time GSP had to pull out of a fight because he was hurt, and now he's done it twice against the same person in 6 months or something.
Condit is a beast, he is the true #1 contender, he just doesn't have the big name yet. If Diaz finishes Condit, I'll get on the hype train, otherwise he's just a mid-tier winning fighter imo.

That twitter quote isn't the exact quote he got fired over. He deleted the original and reposted that one. Apparently it comes from "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" but I haven't rewatched the episode to check (which is one of the best shows ever BTW).
Basically IMO it's retarded to fire him over that and this is one of the few times that I think Dana is acting like a complete cock. There is an interview with Helwani where he says at the start of it that he calls all the guys when they do this sort of stupid shit to get their side of the story (ie/ Forrest re: rape comments and Rashad re: rape comments). But then 5 minutes later says he never called or talked to Miguel about it, he had his people do it and word back was that, "it was a joke". Apparently that was the length and breadth of the explanation which sounds like complete bullshit to me.

Dana is racist against mullet wearing Mexicans.
And he must be sensitive if someone who has a fan base in the UFC and is coming off a win can be cut just like that, without warning or fining him.
Something should have happened to Miguel for saying something dumb on twitter, but not an insta-cut imo. I think that Dana will eventually re-hire him and say he overreacted, since he wont do shit to Rashad, who had brought up a more touchier subject.
