Post the most important songs connected with your life. ( Not songs that are just good but more like songs that are very special to u for a specific reason.

Here are mine :

1. Emperor - With strength i burn

This is by far the most important song for my Life
Its very difficult to hear it for people who dont like metal.
But its pure art.

The lyrics combined with the music touch me so deeply as no other song.
The song descripes like the quest for seing the reason or furthermore the essence of ones Life and the reason why things happen.

The fictional character in teh song goes on a pretty sick dark chaotic epic journey trying to get enlighted.
the music itself perfectly descripes the dark and chaotic journey.

finally the journey ends with the following lyrics

Minute 7.05 and folowing
"Even though, I nothing learned.
With strength I burn..."

pretty much describes my Life ^^

2.) From Autumn To Ashes - Short Stories With Tragic Endings

Well i dont like how the band musically arranged the song
However The end of teh song really touches me and it describes the situation when u love someone and the other person doesnt return the love. U wish so much that the other persons feels the same for u but it just doesnt happen.
Finally u realize that u will destroy yourself if u keep putting all your energy in trying to win the love of the other person.

"For as much as I love Autumn,
I'm giving myself to Ashes."

3.) Toten Hosen - Was zählt

Best love song ever !
Lyrics pretty much descripe how someone has overcome the biggest obstacles possible to reach this one goal of being together with his love.
hes gone through dessert, crossed the ocean , hes gone though years of rain, hes thursty , has lived of water and salt only for years.
Then finally he reaches his love.
And then in the refrain he sings : It all was worth it ! I would do it again . Being with his love was worth all the hard years
cause Love is only thing that matters.

pretty fantastic song for example If u split with your girlfriend and after years u finally pull yourself together again and be happy together

SO now i am interestd in yours

Facebook Twitter
U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 30/11/2008 23:54

this thread has potential. PLEASE don't let it become one of those youtube threads where u just dump everything you like.

describe why you like certain songs, and how they represent you and don't post too many videos either.

would be better if people would make an ultimate pick of their absolute favorite one song that is positive for them and another one that they relate to when they are depressed.

i'll think about mine and post after.

okay well i've come to the conclusion that there will only be one, big song, and it's not a positive one.

basically, i have this current 'vision' of life, that as you get older, the moments of happiness become less and less frequent. that's how it has been and how i see it happening further on for me. therefore, there really isn't much that i can relate to as of right now that has a happy vibe to it, unless it's something that reminds me of my childhood. so it could be something like a soundtrack or video game music that i loved, which is a gateway to positive emotions. but that's pretty pointless really. sounds depressive? well it is, but it's not as bad as it looks. happiness is not the only positive emotion. instead, most of those non-existent happy moments are replaced with calmness, peacefulness, neutrality. excitement that can be seen as happiness still happens, but in the end, happiness is ephemeral. pain is always present though, even if not always on a conscious level, it's always just waiting to resurface.

so for me, this song is a painful look into myself, and life. it basically evokes the deepest level of hopelessness in me. it's a look into the mind of the singer, which has seen despair and insanity and which i relate to strongly.

in reality, this one big song is in fact a whole album, consisting of 3 songs, which i see as one very long song, clocking in about 44 minutes. so i'm not going to post any audio because nobody would listen to it obviously, i'll instead post the lyrics in a spoiler for those who want to read some of it, obviously VERY personal to me. these lyrics are sung in two ways, one being very slow, consisting of very low growls, and the other way are torturous sounding high shrieks. the music is very atmospheric, dark, slow, progressive and psychedelic.

My first encounter with Elliott Smith, back in the late 90's.
I thought the guitar playing was beautiful, and a few years later I heard the song in one of my favorite movies (Good Will Hunting)

Elliott Smith - Angeles

My next song is Muse - New Born, which I heard for the first time about 6 years ago, and I've liked everything with Muse since.
It was mindboggeling, since I had only listened to Singer/Songwriter - Indie music before, and this was another genre.

Muse - New Born

Got to go to work now, will update this thread later today

Well having smoked too much cannabis for a long time in the past, this song related pretty much exactly what I was feeling at the time, and still feel some times...

NIN - Every day is exactly the same

+ Show Spoiler +

This song gives me the chills, it can be interpreted in a thousand ways but I think its about Solipsism, the philosophical idea that "My mind is the only thing that I know exists." so maybe this whole world is only happening inside your own head. Though I do not subscribe to the idea 100% I think its a fascinating thought, especially on psychedelics . To me NIN and Trent Reznor has some of the most meaningful lyrics ever.

NIN - Right where it belongs

Ice Dance by Danny Elfman (From Edward Scissorhands)

No idea why. Just the first song I actually cried while listening to, and still has an effect on me. Incredibly beautiful.

New slang by the shins still gives me the chills, because its such a great song
I heard it at a friends house and immediately thought: Wow thats a great song, and i might have been a bit drunk, but immediately proposed that it is the best song in the world, although i wasnt even able to remember the title properly

Later on I learned that It's on the soundtrack of "Garden State", a very very very nice movíe, which is written and directed by Zach Braff (yes J.D. from scrubs), which at the time was my absolute favorite show. Both scrubs and Garden State really put me in a mixture mood of melancholy and pleasantness. They both convey sort of a good message, while still being absolutely hilarious.

In the movie garden state Natalie Portman introduces Zach Braff to the song saying that the song is the best in the world and that its gonna change his life, which is funny because I thought that it is the greatest song in the world independently from that. Coincidence= I think not. Natalie and I are meant to be together.

Wow Luna.

My choice was a close pick between Ice Dance and either New Slang/Fair/Let Go from Garden State.

Garden State is pretty incredible. <3

– Ripple by the Grateful Dead

So yea... I've only known this song for I dunno, half a year or something? However, it's pretty much the only thing that keeps me going and saves my soul from Law School. The lyrics describes what music is, I think, and what the grateful dead tries to do with their music. It also says a lot about life and stuff. My favorite part might be the ending;

“You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home“

I don't know why I like it, but it's something along the lines of a semi-stoic attitude to life. I'll try to take care of myself. I don't want to depend on other people too much, and after all, you can't depend on other people in the long run anyway. But it also says that the singer really loves you, and that if he actually could he'd fix you up. As a person who does care about a lot of people, my friends and family, I can really relate to that too. Also, when you really feel that a person would help you out no matter what if he or she only could you know you've got a real friend.

- Omkring tiggarn' från Luossa, lyrics by Dan Andersson.

First of all, the song is translated in the clip so even non-swedes can get the lyrics. Not that I really understand all of it anyway. My extended family has been singing this since on different occasions as long as I can remember. My dad used to sing this one for me and my sister when we were really young and couldn't sleep. Dan Andersson (dude who wrote it, some 100 years ago) wrote a lot of really good poems. It was also played (poorly) at my uncle's funeral which ads even more emotions to it. When I die I want someone, preferably somewhat talented, to sing this tune.

– Tattoo by the Who

This is pretty much the theme song of me and my sister. I don't have a brother, but she's just as good. The songs a bit about growing up, a lot of fun and probably mostly a result of Pete Townsend being high as fuck. Nonetheless I think this one will squeeze into the top3 cause there's probably not one person in my life that's more important then my sister.

Immortal Technique - Peruvian cocaine (the whole album "Revolutionnary Volume 2" is just sick)
So many things in this song... movie reference etc...

Kalib Kweli - Country cousins
Love the flow...

Talib Kweli - Hostile Gospel part 1
Even if the song is kind of smooth, I find that it delivers much energy!

This song just feels like a reflection of my mind and my soul. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I listen to it less frequently now, because I ended up strongly associating it with a girl I once dated.

I chose the one with the anime pictures because it was funny if you listen, scroll away after you start the video hahaha

Its seriously a sick good song though..

I guess my two VIP songs are the ones I heard all the older kids playing when I was a little guy. There were two pretty clear standouts that people liked the most and played the most.

They are these.

Nas - Halftime

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - TROY

This is the first jam I ever heard that I actually listened to the lyrics. I recall being floored he was actually talking about something. Kinda funny.

Hope somebody liked those as much as I do.

For me it's gotta be the following:

I'd love to choose the whole Blink 182 Album: "The Mark, Tom & Travis Show" but I'll choose just one track:
Blink 182 - What's my age again?

Secondly,
David Gray - Babylon

Thirdly,
Aerosmith - I don't wanna miss a thing

Last,
Greenday - Time of your life

Other really close songs:
Lostprophets - Rooftops
Queen - We are the champions
Bush - Glycerine
U2 - Walk On
Top Gun - Danger Zone

- btw, great thread, hope it keeps on track

Ok Loco I'm gonna challenge your viewpoint:

Its clear that when we were simpler beings (children) we were more easily entertained. As we get older, its not that we don't get more excitable. You seemed to be very concerned with having fun without responsibilities and I am the same, but it seems that as we age our pleasures come from different sources. Hitting a million dollar jackpot would do nothing for me at age 5. Happiness, newness, and excitability should never ever stop because there is not enough time in our lifetimes to experience every single thing.

What was the craziest thing you've done in the last 3 months? Chances are it wasn't much. Emotions are internal. Stimulus is external. When you no longer have look for external validation and entertainment in order to be excited, and are able to be self amusing, the search is over. FWIW whatever viewpoint you choose to believe in will only reinforce your reality.

I really like Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The chorus lyrics really sum up how I feel when I'm reflecting on the world and get a feeling of isolation and sadness. Often times I feel like an outside observer just looking at the world go by and wondering why people do what they do and behave the way they do.

Also the words "Scar tissue that I wish you saw" kind of sums up how I view a lot of people including myself, all with a history of happy and bitter memories but it's often difficult for them to express these raw emotions using only words.

my post wasn't poisonous, you don't risk being infected by my skepticism, so why hate it? and yes you basically hate me because i described a big part of my personality, which most people i know don't even know about and current views on life, it was an honest expression and you hated it. i didn't ask you to like it but i see no valid reason for you to attack me about it, it certainly was over the line, you probably knew i'd take it very personal too because i always react to this kind of thing but still did it.

and the only reason my post looks pretentious (apart from the fact that i picked such a long song lol) is because it seems people didn't want to take this thread as seriously as i did, so my post stood out which i didn't really mean to happen when i initially wrote it, i guess i'm too naive. i just felt the need to write it down and maybe even get a reaction from someone who relates.(which i actually did and got a PM from it so it's all good.)

Wow I love some of the songs here. Nice thread, hope no one will derail this anymore (or derail because they argue about the derailment of others ) and there will be more nice songs to follow.

I have a few VIP songs. Huge fan of a very, very wide variety of songs so I could put in dozens and dozens of songs with a special meaning to me but I'll start of with just a few.

Gabriel Faure - Pavane

Heard this when I was a little kid and I can't remember a single time I listened to it without being moved by it. I love how you can put that much feeling in a piece without using any words.

Beth Hart - Leave the light on

A song that after I first heard it, couldn't stop listening to it. Guess it's been 5/6 years since I first listened to it because my dad bought Beth Hart's album, and I still play this song on a daily basis.

Kanye West - Family Business

Don't really feel like talking about it much but this song used to get me through the rough patches in my life thusfar. If only that fcked up Kanye nowadays could return to making songs like this instead of that Love Lockdown crap.. Love this song soooo much.

If you guys like this small selection I can put up more, but this is it for now.

RaSZi - Unconventional, complete FPS-syndrome and arrogant without ever having achieved anything.

I'm surprised way more people didnt list instrumental music because I feel like its way easier to have a song of this type reflect your life since it has emotional content without necessarily words which may not specifically apply to you, I have been having a hard time thinking of something to post here since there are a number of songs that are meaningful to me in specific situations but none that I can think of that represent the totality of my life

This song Glory doesn't have any words but the guitar work has a central theme and is mostly improvisational. To me it is extremely moving and powerful. The best version I've heard is this one and someone got it on video. The rockin' part doesn't pick up until 1:45 but the rest of the song is amazing. The guitarist Jake Cinninger is one of the best.

Hits me like a ton of bricks every single time, how can such seemingly simple music crash into your core like a lead ball ? ? ? ?

Seriously it beats the crap outta me, all i know is that it does. Btw this isnt really a song, it's actualy part of a score for a movie called Koyaanisqatsi. Its the most moving thing i have come across in my entire life, i recomend it to everyone, and i mean EVERYONE.

Koyaanisqatsi <------------next time u wanna watch a movie do yourself a favour and rent/buy/dl this movie.

for some reason these just make me all warm and fuzzy inside. This is the friggin abraxis right here. If youre listening to this and it's just retarded chaos, i would suggest listening to it again, and then again tomorow. Most people might need to get a little used to it before they can actualy listen to it .
Also i must stress that these songs need to be listened to from front to back. You can't listen for 30 seconds and have an opinion about it. Well, off course you could, but you would be wasting your precious opinion .

what can i say, this doesn't sound like the work of a raving bloodlusting lunatic does it now? (inb4 yes it does).
Voice, rythm, melody, lyrics, all fukn epic imo. This song hits home for me becouse it sums up our "democratic" kapitalistic society, but does it without getting "angry", which is a feat all in itself imo.
They should give this guy his guitar back .
