I think the consensus now is that the knee was legal. Replays showed as much. Weidman was well on his way to lose this fight,Mouse was jabbing his face off and The Chris had less and less success with his wrestling, not to mention he gassed out.

Also Weidman looked done to me, he was wobbly after the knees landed and was slurring his speech 10 minutes after the event, don't see how he was going to survive if Dan Miragliota did not interfere. Or he was just milking the situation pretending to be hurt, while stalling and trying to recover a little and get Mousasi DQ-ed.
Either way he deserved to lose, imo.

scumbag weidman is back lol
even moose knows he was reaching the ground to get him disqualified or to prevent the knee

Wait what the fuck how was that knee legal @ Weidman's fight? How the fuck does the doctor decide he cant fight when he can? This is one of the nastiest robberies ever.

Even if they are legal, why the fuck do they stop the fight ????? That's fucked up

Well weidman pretended to be dying from head trauma and since roidmaster yoel broke his skull last time I think doctors and ref are in the right to be very concerned when they saw him sitting down not even knowing what day it is(pretending or not)

Voice: Take your time. Nice. Take your time. Don’t take him down.

Hooft: Don’t wrestle him.

Voice: If you’re going to go, go single.

Hooft: You don’t have to wrestle him, AJ. Just relax.

Voice: Don’t wrestle him.

Hooft: Get out of there. Get out of there.

Grappling coach Neil Melanson: OK, stud. Now, let’s get your hands hot.

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?

Hooft: This is stupid.

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?

Hooft: Fu** it, man. Just get off the cage.

Voice: Get out of there.

Voice: Why isn’t he listening?

Voice: He’s tired already, DC. He doesn’t need to do this.

Voice: Why isn’t he listening?

Hooft: I don’t know why he’s doing that. We have no (expletive) eyes.

Break between Round 1 and Round 2

Hooft: Can you tell me why you’re wrestling? Now, you’re not going to wrestle. You take your distance. Stay away, two steps away. Why are you so worried about everything? The kicks and the knees are really good, but no kicks. Where’s your hands?

Voice: You’re doing great. Don’t fu***** wrestle him.

Hooft: If you stand your distance, it’s an easy game. Why make it difficult?

Round 2

Hooft: Movement. Athletic. Movement. That’s it. Take your distance.

(Johnson shoots for another takedown)

Hooft: You need distance.

Hooft: I’m not saying nothing.

(Cormier takes Johnson’s back)

Hooft: It’s going the same as last time.

(Johnson taps)

Hooft: Why, why the fu** does this happen every fu***** time, man? Crazy.

Dont listen to anything I say

weird that rumble tried to wrestle, guess he didnt have any desire to win and found a way to lose and not get hit
seems like he had an easy win if he continued to strike, DC was getting fucked up, I disagree with DC saying in postfight interview that Rumble tried to wreslte because he's a wrestler and its his instinct, I dont remember seen him panic wreslting liek this before

Since we now know that Rumble was going to retire even if he won the fight, it makes it seem as if Rumble just went into the fight for a big payday before transitioning into his new job, which I read is a job as a strength & conditioning coach for the LA Rams (NFL team).

If you think about it, Rumble did land some nice strikes in Round 1, but that was probably 1 minute or less of the round, while the other 4 minutes were spent in the clinch against the cage just hugging. Rumble lost at 3:37 of Round 2 after being taken down and eating a bunch of small-medium punches to the head before he quickly tapped out to a submission that wasn't fully in there.

Conspiracy theory: Rumble didn't want to win the fight, he just wanted the big payday and wanted to take as little damage as possible before quickly tapping to a submission. If he gets a job in the NFL as a S&C coach, that means job security + good salary + benefits + won't get punched in the head anymore. Cash grab, imo.

Also, I was surprised to see so many people pick Rumble in the rematch prior to the weigh-in (not on this website, but according to the bookies and bettors at Sherdog). Rumble didn't show us anything new in his 3 KO wins in a row, and he only fought for 7.5 minutes in total for those 3 fights. Even after Cormier cheated to make weight, I didn't lose confidence in him cuz the worst thing that would happen is Cormier having worse cardio, but even his worse cardio would still be better than Rumble's. Also, Cormier was still the superior MMA fighter before and after the weigh-in, so people who jumped the gun after the weigh-in were crazy, imo. Anthony Johnson closed at -140 to -148, Cormier was +120 to +122.

No, I mean I get that the knees were completely legal now. I don't believe Weidman did it on purpose so he can DQ him in sense of a edge gaining, but all of that can be ignored. It's the referee that stopped the fight and thought the knees are illegal, after that they see a replay, check that they are legal and the fight is just off without Weidman actually dropping in a KO or having any sort of huge injury like a bigass hematoma or something like that. So its neither Weidman's fault, nor Mousasi's ( well obviously not him). And yeah Weidman seemed tired before the whole knee combos and would've most likely lost the fight at that point, but still did not deserve such development...

Inb4 they feed Mousasi to Romero, or actually force Romero off roids and have Mousasi beat his ass.

However you can see how Bellator and McGregor are starting to put huge pressure on teh UFC regarding the payouts to fighters, as they are indeed laughable compared to what they probably make. Bellator kinda stealing irrelevant UFC fighters and giving them tons of cash and McGregor forcing that "gimme a portion or you can fuck off" atittude, obviously McGregor has the room to do that, as he can leave the UFC and still make shitton of money whatever he decides to do next ( plus 99% sure Mayweather fight )

Rumbles new business plan was to throw a PPV Main event fight and ride off into the sunset.

Well played

If you get hit with a brutal illegal strike that rocked you, I think it's fair to not want to continue if you think it puts you at a massive disadvantage, even if you could possibly continue.

If it were illegal like the ref said and Weidman and his corner thought, would you be calling Weidman stupid if he decided to continue and got TKO'd soon after?

Fighting after getting rocked by an illegal strike seems kinda stupid to me, even if you are capable of continuing. It puts you at a huge disadvantage.

Did you watch the video? He was making low-blow gestures to the ref less than a minute before the knee, Weidman was gassing and eating a lot of punches, he was panicking and looking for any way out to catch his breath

he already checked out when he was looking at ref for a bail out/ time to rest. much like how conor just dove to give his neck and be over with all of it.

btw it's hilarious how mousasi is trying his best to get fans by acting like a troll

I've always wondered how it feels to be exhausted beyond belief while getting punched in the face and not having the energy to even defend yourself... kind of how some people must feel when they drown from exhaustion or something

This reminds me of a recent fight with iuri alcantara vs luke sanders. He was getting his ass whooped 1st round multiple times the fight was close to being stopped then takes an illegal knee ref asks him if he wants to stop and he doesn't even hesitate and says no lets continue goes on to get ass whooped 2nd round before locking a kneebar for a sick comeback. Weidman didn't want to fight and tried to take advantage of the situation imo and got backfired. I agree with Dana that rematch isn't a mandatory given how the fight was going on.
