I've been playing these for 2 years now on and off for fun and surely they did suck e.g. falling for the "worker" exploit, bad micro and wasting units a lot - overall retarded really. Over time though and more recently I checked out the AIs being developed by a lot of people and it seems it can beat a really bad, iccup d player pretty easily. Still no "adaptive" strategies but I'm sure it'll get there somehow and it will be soon, you can actually play these AIs, but only single player (even I think that will change into lan soon). I'll post how later
There's also a "Man vs Machine" tourney now that pits Iccup D up to C+ against an AI
Here's a more recent update between the Top AI's TSCMOO(multi-race), KRASIO(T), KILLERBOT(Z), LETABOT (T)
Of course even a slow ass player like me can beat the bots over time, but I look for patterns in the replays so it's kind of unfair really. Killerbot was the easiest bot to install so I'd try using that. There's also some new Terran bots which are compatible with the new BWAPI so try those out as well, had trouble how to make Leta, Krasi0 and TSCMoo work, but I'm sure it's there in the older BWAPI and I'd appreciate it if someone here can tell me how

Man that was really impressive. I had seen LetaBot before and wasn't suuuuuper impressed (its opponent wasn't very good so it was hard to tell), but this was very cool.
Some solid but older A.I.s don't work with the new API releases so take note of that, the number of newer, better A.I.s coming out is worth more than the older ones though, and some other older ones are updated to be compatible with the new APIs anyway.
Tutorial on how to use the AI - it takes a bit of tinkering but is easy enough, if you follow everything correctly and it doesn't work it's probably just incompatible with the new BWAPI so dont' sweat it too much and just pick a newer A.I.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass to run older AIs, you need the older BWAPI which is cumbersone
The newer BWAPIs and AIs are much easier here's a tip: Probably best to use older windows like win7, win10 is doable but there's more to tinker with
Download the latest BWAPI and install the exe,
Run Chaos launcher in administrator mode
Use the multi-instance Chaos launcher, since you will be launching two instances of BW like a fake Lan in one pc, click the new "Local PC" option created, instead of the usual UDP then after launching the first BW, launch another and "join" your first created game if it appears in the lobby
Download IronBot,Killerbot (the easiest to run)
, edit the ini file in BWAPI e.g. put the name of the AIs .dll file
Took me ages before getting something to run lol, they mix the old and new bots together with no forum comments to help me out with the questions
BWAPI latest exe (This has it's own Chaoslauncher included in the install so don't use your older ones, you'll need this for the multi-instance of running two games in one machine)
Then point to your sc folder so that it launches the right exe (i have two sc folders, one for netplay and one for AIs coz it causes conflicts) https://github.com/bwapi/bwapi/releases/download/v4.1.2/BWAPI_412_Setup.exe
Lots of AI stalls since the objective is to win and not really to look good in builds for late games, 9mins the zerg rush and terran defense is really amazing.

For the record, here's the real exchange that took place.
He is the one who changed the deal to be $10 per game as documented in this thread. I initially said BO5 for 50$ but I agreed to his proposition. Then after my first win he said he wasn't playing any more games with me and he'd sent me bitcoin money worth $10. He tries to force me to have a bitcoin wallet to be paid when we clearly agreed to a dollar transaction, not crypto. I give him my Paypal and suddenly he no longer wants to pay, so he asks for more games hoping to cancel his debt. This obviously smells like someone who will not pay me through Paypal as I asked but I did not specifically say that, I was just basically asking him how he'd plan to pay if he lost another $10 since I don't have bitcoin.
I didn't have time to respond after that and he started flooding this forum. Keeps changing his mind about playing more or not and making a big fuss so he doesn't have to Paypal me money. Really annoying guy, so I'm done with him. I can only imagine how much $10 means to him if he gives me so much trouble for it so I will gladly let him keep it. Get better soon dude.

The facts were clear: he was delusional. His results showed that he ran better than most people here. Those old blogs of his have certainly not aged gracefully. If anyone wants a good laugh, go read them, and read the comments. Dozens of people were calling him out on it. I only made a blog about it that stood out.
13 years later and I still feel completely irked out by this kind of entitled child mentality, "it's impossible that this is happening to me, I should have won, I can't lose vs donks in this luck-based game!" ... it's utterly pathetic. I feel bad for Newblish that he didn't have the luck that I had of being friends with people like Fayth and seeing what it takes to make it as a poker player. We all knew what poker was about, we all experienced extreme swings, and Newblish just had this idea in his head of what poker should be, which was not based in reality, and he was not prepared for a small fraction of the variance that can happen to someone. He downplayed how extremely black and white his perspective was. His whining was not the typical tilt most players have, it was the tilt of a person with a very skewed perspective towards what they are entitled to and what life gives them, as you see with persons with Cluster B personality disorders. Black and white thinking is an extremely dangerous thing. It's the exact same thinking that motivates incels to be mysoginists and some go as far as raping or killing women because of it (like Elliot Rodger). They'll say things like "I'm really good looking and I deserve this chick that I like, I'm way better than her boyfriend" and their narcissism convinces them that it's the absolute truth and that this is how life should work. For Newblish it was "I'm smarter therefore I deserve to win more often at this game".
A lot of this has to do with growing up in a virtual world. If he had tried joining the Marine Corps instead of doing online gaming and he constantly complained that he was disadvantaged for some reasons and that this is why he was fucking up and underperforming, and claimed that he deserved to become a marine, that shit would have gotten him slapped the fuck around. Reality would have made itself apparent. He would have been forced to learn to stop being an entitled bitch or quit, but when you're on the internet you can live in your little bubble and remain an entitled bitch. You can delude yourself and think that your thinking is aligned with reality and drown in self-pity because you don't have real friends to bring you back to reality. Newblish had pussy friends who indulged his paranoid "woe is me" fantasies instead, like that Benjamin1 dude. They didn't appreciate tough love, instead they doubled down on their delusions that life owes them something and success should come easily to them. He took Newblish at his word that he ran worse than everybody else and didn't care to dig into it because he is conflict-avoidant and agreeable. This is the kind of friend that everyone is better without in the long-term.

The "privacy" excuse is garbage because 1) Paypal doesn't disclose the sender's email, you choose what it says. Here's an example from a payment I received:

Anyone with half a brain understands the difference between giving one person your email in private and giving it out in a public space where potential hundreds of people lurk the forum, especially where it is known that there is one person who is literally obsessed with me because he has spammed my username on this forum for years. In the latter case, people could use my email against me, and I would have no recourse whatsoever, because I don't have theirs. Privacy in public matters, privacy in PMs is less important, especially when you are the one who owes the other person. If you did not want to reveal any info about yourself, you should not bet with someone.
With that being said, if I really wanted JOHN YANG's email, knowing who he is already and with the connections that I have from this website, I would get his email. I don't need him to give it to me, which adds to the stupidity of the whole thing.

If I know this story correctly it was HovZ and someone else I don't know who went to whose house and who the other guy was but I think it was two USA national players and I don't know who won.. but it wasn't stabbing or anything I think it was a somewhat consensual fight and pretty sure whoever travelled went a long way to get there. almost all the people who post alot on liquid poker make me feel so sad for them and liquidpoker...

I'd like to chime in with a short story about Hovz that i think yall might find funny. Back in 2002? I put together a LAN in California. It ended up being a success with some big names (Froz, Evade, Cypressman, Machine) showing up as well as WGT, PGT and Blizzard admins and employees. Was alot of fun.
Hovz showed up but didn't play. He ended up sweating Froz the entire time and pretty much just hung out. After Froz and eVade played their final bo5 match (of which Froz won) Hovz lingered around and seemed to be waiting for something. After almost everyone left, including Froz, eVade started packing up his computer and it then became clear what Hovz was waiting for.
Background:
A few months prior, eVade and Hovz took part in some Blizzard sponsored event of which they played against each other in. Evidently, Hovz disconnected early on in their final match but instead of evade waiting or offering to restart, evade just continued the match, ghosted Hovz' request to rm and uploaded the replay to Blizzard whom declared him the winner. Hovz tried to appeal but was denied. Evade went on to win the event and the Samsung 21" CRT Flat screen monitor prize lol
Back to the story: So Evade started packing up his stuff and Hovz comes over and just shoves Evade away. Hovz begins disconnecting the cables from the back of Evade's computer. Evade is pretty shy and sort of half-heartedly tried to stop him but Hovz was a big dude and there was no chance. Hovz then says something to the effect of "this is mine", picks up the monitor and starts to make way toward the door. Everyone at this point is just watching in shock as they witness a robbery. Long story short I manage to talk sense into Hovz and he "compromises" and says, "okay fine but since you cheated me, i'm going to break it so we both can't have it" and motions like he's about to drop it. Again, I manage to talk him out of it and he eventually sets it down and warns Evade that if he ever does that again he's going to find out where he lives lol
Anyway, reading the Hovz story reminded me of this and thought it would be a fun little sc tidbit to share. To be fair, Evade and I became great friends afterwards and even roommates for several years so hopefully he doesn't get upset that I've finally told this story after 2 decades, haha.

While we are famously known for being harsh at LP especially with poker advice as a kind of tough love (it's your fuckin' money) and forums are generally a place people talk shit for fun, there's definitely been a massive increase in average age and change in life/responsibilities since the site opened. Many people have kids, wives or joined the real world... but we all know for a period we were on a kind of nerd gold rush from a brother named MONEYMAKER. What a ride. SO much has happened to LPers over the years and we are all fucking cool for being on that journey together despite massive differences. Naturally this maturity also makes us engage in discussions differently though and with hopefully more value to offer too. I think one thing that's clear from this situation is some people view LP as lower traffic (dead) and that's a reason to spam, troll and take shit posting to another level for them but there are probably also people who feel similar to myself whereby you won't even engage idiots like that lightly and if that's the only posting going on it's unlikely you would post yourself. So after a lot of advise and effort Floofy is happily married and has children so it was all about game after all.
Baal has a habit of being really off the mark, and I have a habit of calling out bullshit when I see it. In this case again: no it wasn't game, it was privilege. Floofy married a poor black girl from a third world country who wanted a green card, from what I remember, she didn't even speak English nor French. I'm not trying to be judgmental but most people don't think of this as their ideal growing up, they want to love and be loved in a reciprocal manner. It's not all of John's fault. I initially misunderstood him as lying about not having a paypal account. The way he worded things when he first declined using paypal and the messages that he sent before that led me to believe that he just didn't want to pay. I should also have realized that a symptom of bipolar psychosis is paranoia, but I assumed he was just making excuses for not paying through PayPal despite having an account. Could have been a genuine illogical paranoid episode motivating him to try to hide contact info from me.

She had tons of choices in online dating web sites, she could very easily have choosen somebody else.

The meta changes and its not that hard to take games off of an old school gosu player. He almost beat me at the beginning because I don't know the timing for bunker fast expand vs goon. He also surprised me with carriers and if it wasn't for his carelessness with goons I would not have pushed that quickly and I wouldn't have seen his carriers so early and he would have won since I didn't have scan.
There's very little money involved and he can't tilt it away like he could at a mid stakes HU challenge so I'm fine with it.

It doesn't contradict anything that I've said in that post: he can win if he catches me off-guard with a cheese. He also had a better chance in that game because I didn't know what kind of player he was, but I didn't take a chance and I pressured him early. I would play safer knowing this in future games which lowers his odds even more.
I did however exaggerate (unwillingly) how much his first goon damage did. He didn't almost beat me with it, but he could have, because he also fucked up his timing. He forgot his second pylon, which is a terrible newb play that delayed his first goon a lot. So yes, knowing this now, it makes me confident that even if I fuck up with Terran he has no chance in future games (let alone with my main race, Protoss) because he'd surely fuck up even more.

It's not all of John's fault. I initially misunderstood him as lying about not having a paypal account. The way he worded things when he first declined using paypal and the messages that he sent before that led me to believe that he just didn't want to pay. I should also have realized that a symptom of bipolar psychosis is paranoia, but I assumed he was just making excuses for not paying through PayPal despite having an account. Could have been a genuine illogical paranoid episode motivating him to try to hide contact info from me.
