Except for every study cited in this thread shows major negative effects from saturated fat. I know the paleo guys love saturated fat. It is part of the diet we we were "meant" to eat. It is satiating. You know what else is satiating? Sweet potatoes, broccoli, blueberries. Butter and coconut oil are more or less empty bad calories. Yeah, if I want to eat some cookies or a pie butter is a key ingredient but there is no nutrition there. I may enjoy a heavy coconut thai curry that tastes amazing but it is not like the coconut is heavily enriching my health. There are no health benefits. Only heart attack and stroke and cancer and Parkinson's and dementia and Alzheimer's.

Well i cant believe this is still a discussion. The metastudies have proven it is not the saturated fat that is the problem. Its completly neutral in the body (except all the health benefits i listed). The body needs saturated fats, the milk in the mothers breast consist of saturated fats and there is a reason for that. We always think or find a way to know better than nature dont we...

You have to ask this: since when did obesity start to become a problem and since when did so many people start having health issues ?

The answer to that is acctually back to when the proven falsefied "study" in the 1970's in USA that "showed" saturated fats are bad for you. The big food companies in America doubled their profit, because they didnt have to make real food anymore. They could just add sugars, flour, corn sirup and all that shit into everything. This is the problem and why people get fat and sick. Wall Mart is filled with that shit everywhere. Stores here too and every country in the world where obesity is a big problem. High glycemic carbohydrates is the problem !

Don't listen to their dogma and don't ditch dairy it is a very good source of calcium and acidophilus just make sure it's organic etc.
Vegetarians need to get a zinc supplement. Also good for test. Or they can eat oyster yes I know loco but technically they are babby animals.

When the diet is lacking in zinc and protein, however—and in fats to promote bile production —use of high-copper foods, and environmental copper, primarily ingested through our water, promote buildup of copper in our tissues.9 The late Carl C. Pfeiffer PhD, MD, formerly of the Brain-Bio Center in Princeton, New Jersey, has provided us with the most comprehensive overview of nutritional problems associated with copper and zinc in his classic study Mental and Elemental Nutrients.10 As he succinctly puts it, “Deficiency of zinc accentuates copper excess.”11

Here we have a classic dilemma of the medical flight from traditional diets. In lighter diets generally, and in heavily plant-based diets in particular, zinc is sharply reduced relative to copper,12 protein is curtailed, and fat is provided scantily at best. The excess copper that builds up in tissues is in unbound, inorganic form,13 highly immobile and creates a low-level toxicity that interferes with many body systems. Particularly affected are the liver and digestion,14 which are already hampered by increasing deficiency of zinc. As bile function and digestive vigor decline, difficulty with meat and fat develops. Legions of light-diet and vegetarian adherents feel justified in their choices because heavier food becomes unpalatable to them.15

Here is how they reached those conclusions RikD in your links:

And here is what the science shows in latest years:

Hahaha, I was just thinking that VanDerMeyde would love the movie Fathead before clicking on his link and finding out that it's the guy from that movie talking. It's the perfect movie for tin foil hat wearing people who want their bad habits reinforced. Nothing like a good ol' government conspiracy to help that along. This movie only works if you have literally zero education on the subject of nutrition and you want to be fed some narrative without fact-checking anything, i.e. you don't use critical thinking. It's actually so awful that it's worth watching for entertainment value.

Oh man, this is some next level hilarious. I reprimand you for using the Weston A. Price Foundation website as a valid source of information by linking you to scienbasedmedecine's critique and how they call it "one of the worst website on the internet" and despite this you keep linking more WAPF garbage, including on this page, only to use sciencebasedmedecine as a legitimate critique of a couple segments of one NF.org video on that same page again? . It amazes me how oblivious you are. Even now that I mention this to you, I bet you probably don't even understand that you're cherry-picking, since you would have never done this in the first place if you cared at all about your research integrity. Anyway, as for Hall's critique of Greger, I found this critique of her critique pretty solid: https://donmatesz.blogspot.ca/2013/02/harriet-halls-critique-of-gregers.html

Why don't you address the actual content of the video? Instead of telling us how superior you are.

There you go again moving the goal post as soon as you're in trouble. I love how you think I should be analyzing a low quality 46 minute video of a comedian with no scientific credentials to speak of talking in the dark in front of an audience of people who need an introduction to the scientific method. Like I should bother with that while you haven't bothered analyzing anything I've posted in this thread, most of which are pretty short videos, and actually come from people with credentials. Instead of addressing any of the content in the videos I've posted, you've resorted to ad hominem attacks and googling to find some dirt on people like Greger who aren't perfect but know a shitton more than you ever will about nutrition and the scientific method.

I have actually already reviewed this guy's "documentary" on multiple websites; it was a fun exercise at the time to test my knowledge of nutrition and it was just fun spotting flaws and fallacies in it that the target audience obviously didn't see. Right now, I have no interest in wasting more of my time on some comedian's low carb fraud talks. There is nothing new in there that hasn't been addressed by people who are more dedicated than me in fighting against misinformation, so I'd just be repeating what they have no doubt already said. I don't find joy in that, and unlike most of them I'm not paid to do it so it would be hard to be motivated to. Personally, I couldn't care any less if some noobs want to eat keto and destroy their health to shed weight while indulging in their favourite foods. I understand that it's not my place to try to stop them and that you can't force feed the truth to people who are committed to doing the wrong thing already, they will have to learn from their own experiences.

I don't know wtf documentary you are on about saw nothing about carbs but that video was about observational studies / clinical studies and correlation does not imply causation. Maybe you should watch the video before you get on your high horse and scoff you fucking leaf the day of the rake can't come soon enough.

"correlation does not imply causation" Damn, what a concept. I've never heard this before, let me go watch a 46 minutes presentation of a comedian standing in the dark so I can learn more about this. I'm glad you learned something, but you know, you could take a free EdX course or some other MOOC and learn all of that for free from a reputable university that will grade you. Although I suppose they are also all part of the "saturated fat is bad" conspiracy so you wouldn't want to learn the basics of nutrition studies through them.

I'm talking about the guy's movie "Fat Head", like I mentioned earlier. Like I said, I know exactly what he advocates and how full of shit he is since I watched his movie and he is still singing the same tune in this video, I didn't need to watch the whole thing but I saw enough. Even just the thumbnail, "Scientists are freakin' liars!", should tell you everything you need to know about this idiot who thinks he's justified in insulting Keys and Pritikin.

Everyone eating tons of sugar and carbs from icecream, chips, cakes, candy, yoghurts, pizzas, hamburgers etc etc and then believing the problem is "coconut fat" and "butter" seems pretty tin foil hat to me mate If only we could remove the saturated fats from the breastmilk and replace it with corn sirup right. Anyway, this forged scientific report you are pointing to in the 1970's and the advice from the U.S government based on it, how did that work out for the american people since ? Did less people get overweight or more ? The results must have been spectacular right ??

Yep, you've figured it all out. We only have two choices of foods, processed foods and animal foods. Two choices of dietary fat: trans fats and saturated fat. Since trans fats are extremely harmful that must mean that saturated fat is good, so we should eat more saturated fat then. It's not like we have the choice to eat unprocessed plant foods or anything. Nicely done, detective! Funny thing is, if you really cared about avoiding all trans fats, you would not only stop eating highly refined vegetable oils, you would also stop eating animal products. The only place trans fats are found naturally are in animal products. Funny how your comedian didn't mention this huh? I guess some facts just get in the way of compelling story-telling.

"But Loco we all know plants don't give you enough protein so what the fuck man I want to lift some weights and eating plants is for pussies"

Are you sure? This guy seems to be doing ok.

Too predictable as usual you can't be bothered to fact check anything: https://youtu.be/cKiGjQvFN44?t=306

"I completely eliminated animal products from my diet around 9 months ago. And even before that I only ate small quantities of meat." This is from a video he made one month ago. His PR deadlift video I posted is from 3 months ago, so 6 months after becoming vegan. That's plenty of time to let you know if protein is an issue. Not that you would have a clue about any of that though.

"Clarence has certainly become stronger since he changed his diet, though credit shouldn’t be given to the diet—it’s the training. In fact, Clarence explained that the reason he changed his diet was completely separate to his training. Even if he saw a decrease in performance, it would be worth it due to the benefits a plant-based diet has on the environment. The logical choice and a noble act." https://medium.com/@tyse90/training-w...edy-clarence0-b46f1560df43#.b6q8ese6k

Keep making more excuses. "I don't care what anyone says, I follow my intuition. Scientists tell us the earth is round but my intuition tells me it's flat because that's what I see every day. Don't stop drinking Coca-Cola because it's a good source of water. So what if Team USA's only male weightlifter in the last Olympics is vegan, he's on the juice, otherwise I'd outlift him. He also needs a zinc supplement because I've never heard of pumpkin seeds before."

No one needs more than 'a little bit of meat' aka he ate some with his main meal what is your point? And no one is arguing that you can't get protein. Protein is a meme in the fitness industry anyway. You don't think hes juiced over 100kg 5'10 the tests they do are laughable anyway fake nattys are a thing... The problem is that you attribute everything to animal products because of your ideology while ignoring the unknown element aka white flour, sugar, junk food. Now may you wallow in your estrogen leaf.
