Sociology and poker
  SpasticInk, Feb 08 2012

Time has come and I have to find a subject for my bachelor paper. I have had some thoughts to incorporate the subject of poker, but have not come up with a proper scientific inquiry. The paper could both be a literature review or an empirical investigation.

Obviously "poker" is a huge subject, and can be studied from many perspectives. My first thoughts were something about the development of poker (on a macro level) - how it's monopolized in country after country (even criminalized), but I'm not sure if that would not lean towards a more economic paper than sociological (even though the economic sphere obviously is of interest). Other than that we have the more psychological interest of gambling and addiction - which is of interest as well (in Sweden internet poker has become the biggest gambling problem for example).

Not sure what I am asking you guys, but if anyone has any input here, just write it. I'll appreciate any ideas or thoughts.

NL50 done.. or?!
  SpasticInk, Sep 08 2011

New BR status:

Graph of NL50 (missing like 100$ profit that's on my laptop)

Thinking about stabbing NL100 but not sure it's a good idea since BR still a bit thin. Perhaps playing 4 tables NL50 combined with very good table selection of 2 tables of NL100?

I think my play is starting to become more and more solid, even though I feel very lost sometimes. One thing I've started to adjust is my "timing", before I pretty much acted very fast always, now I always take me time and I feel I spew a lot less now and make better valuebets.

Donkey arrived!!
  SpasticInk, Aug 23 2011

But...it only lasted for about an hour before gf's kid saw it - and he obviously could not resist to take the precious donkey.

Anyway, I've been playing nl25 on PS since last update - and now it's time to take some "shots" at nl50. Took a bit more time than I expected but I played pretty bad from time to time.

Rebuilding... again?!?
  SpasticInk, Jul 27 2011

Long time since last update. I've been playing mostly NL100 rush on FTP.

I was on my way to nl200 but had to cashout a lot (living expenses, travels and so on...) I have 7k on FTP but with the current situation and no online BR I didn't know what to do. Was thinking about asking for a stake but decided not to.

Since I didn't have much saved up and the money I have in my bank account is a buffert I don't wanna touch , I decided (maybe stupidly) to start regrind at PokerStars... It probably looks silly to start over at NL10 again, but that's the way it is. Started 8 days ago with 150$ and this is my progress so far:

As you can see I actually lost 18 buyins after my good start - which basically was me overplaying my hands way too much. I gave people too little credit - stacking off too light. I realized that a raise on the flop is a super strong move at NL10. Anyway, started to 9 table instead, focused on the fish and things went better.

Biggest pot won:

Starting NL25 today. People probably wonder why I dont play a European skin instead with great rakeback, but the truth is that games are going all the time on PS, no problem starting 9 tables in the morning and table select as well. I prefer playing in the morning and noon when people are at work.

Rush - a goldmine?!
  SpasticInk, Feb 02 2011

I have only played rush-poker a bit for fun before, but yesterday I only had like 30 minutes to play, so I decided to try it out (and had a small success). Today, pretty much EVERYTHING went right. And I also had a lot of lucky jin-turncards as well...

graph:

BR now at 3,6k , probably gonna start 4-tabling nl100 soon... Im a pretty big lifetime winner on NL100 and NL200, so it feels kind of weird feeling that it's a big step. But the 18-19 buyins I lost last month on NL100 probably is one of the reasons.

And hand of the day, I'm not sure about the optimal play here, feel free to comment. I was pretty sure he had a flush, but will he valuebet it if I check (part of me wanted to c/r river, but considering my turn play I felt it would look a bit too suspicious).

Two Night2o1 graphs!
  SpasticInk, Jan 31 2011

I look at Night2o1's blog and I see a pattern here, the big difference mine is one level below!

NL50 graph:

January started out great, but ended pretty bad. It was pretty much my shots at NL100 that went straight to hell.

Pretty clear that I haven't developed as a player the last year, while competition has become tougher. But still... ran pretty good at nl50 - couple of buyins above EV while running 10 buyins below EV on NL100, and that of course makes a bit of difference. But I would be lying to myself if I said that's the reason. It's pretty clear I have several leaks that needs to be fixed. Thinking about getting a Bluefirepoker membership or something.

Yeye, end rant. Still playing at FTP, and I payed fucking 3,4k in rake, while only getting 814 in RB (300 was a bonus too...) Makes me wonder why I abandoned my rakeback deal at iPoker. Oh well - got Iron Man thing, and got 50k points (and within the next two weeks I should have my Black Card!!)

Stars here I come
  SpasticInk, Jan 14 2011

January 5th I deposited 915 on FTP. With bonus and the rakeback I received today, the roll is now:

Also got 140 on MB in rakeback from last month's ipoker play. Now I'm gonna put everything on Stars (trying to achieve 200k VPP for the year). I'm thinking about either playing NL50 to get used to "new" software, or jump to NL100 directly. What do you think? (Roll is ~3040)

Weekend now and I wish I had the time to play more, but it's hard to say no to the delicious bottle. Anyway, couple of months ago I thought about making a video, but since I have been playing so bad it would probably be very un-educational for all of you that would have been interested. I'm gonna wait a while now while rebuilding my roll and If my good run continues then I promise to show my spewtastic game =)

GL all

Done with FTP!
  SpasticInk, Jan 10 2011

Had some good five days. Put in the volume for once, and cleared the $300 bonus. I also managed to win a 14 buyins. Have to say it's a pleasure to play on FTP (software wise).

Probably gonna move to PS on friday when I get my rakeback (which should be something around (900-300)*0,27 = 162!

Graph from FTP:

Roll is now $1900 (guess it's nice to double it in five days). I should also get around 160 in rakeback on friday, and in a couple of days around 200 ~ from last month's play at iPoker.

Planning to start at NL100 w/ 3k BR, hopefully in a week or two.

Anyway, for you guys playing NL50 at FTP I think the most important thing is to table select. Sitting with 5 other regulars (even if they are somewhat bad) is pretty unneccessary when you can find a seat on a table w/ fish. At iPoker it was kind of messy to change tables, but on FTP you only have to browse the list once in a while and taking the highest VPIP (and look for some random stack numbers like 39 dollars - usually a fish).

Oh God I'm bad!
  SpasticInk, Jan 05 2011

Not naughty bad, just poker bad. Since my previous entries, things have gone downhill. Pretty much because I started to run bad and not being able to handle it well when it comes to tilt. Additionally minimaxmod stopped working on ipoker, making the software semi-unplayable. Not that I'm gonna blame it on that, but it sure affected my game.

This is graph from my last entry. Not very beautiful

Pretty clear I've been playing really bad. Thanks to rakeback, I survived. Anyway, now its 2011, a new year - and I have decided to start playing on PokerStars. I just couldnt handle the software anymore, and playing on PS forces you to volume up a bit too. But I got a 300 $ bonus from FTP - so I started to clear that today. Starting off the year w/ a 950 $ BR, today's session was a pure pleasure when it comes to bluffs working, getting paid in right situations and so on.

And hand of the session:

Probably looks a bit spewy, and it was purely based on how he played on the table. Saw him pulling off a LOT of pot bets with nothing, and otherwise checking or betting smallish. Can't say I loved to see him shove the river, but had to go with the feeling!

All right. That's all. GL folks!
