yeah obv, but regarding this hand, its clear that ivey wins only vs a tiny range of durrr (even big part of durrr's bluff range has ivey crushed), ivey was only beating like A8-A9 combos or 7/8/9 combos , and also like 22-55, which all is super small part of his range + unlikely. so, in conclusion, i don't think we can say "he was so close to calling" , he just tanked cuz it was half a mirrion pot, which every other player would do .
edit : (i dont wanna analyze ivey's thought process or anything, i just think that ivey wasn't "so close to calling" ) |
Ivey was def close to calling. Most of those guys at that table try to keep the hollywooding down to an absolute minimum, just caz they are smart enough to know that it's bad for any game. Ivey is probably the last guy that would hollywood regardless of how much money is in the pot, he even announces that he "beats nothing" |

I think Ivey was pretty sure Durrrr was on a bluff, it's just that most bluffs beat him. Pretty sure he was thinking about a call with the idea that Durrrr might have 89dd or 78dd which wasn't far from the truth. |

I was honestly thinking that Ivey was contemplating a shove before he started talking. I think durrr has too many bluffs in his range that beat him, and there's a good chance u can fold out AK up to mid two pair. |

the sheer number of idiots who keep saying this is baffling.
Which is more likely: Tom Dwan, who bought in 600bb deep and is clearly comfortable playing extremely deep, is near tears because he is so profoundly terrified of getting a 400k river bluff snapped off, despite having been playing the highest stakes possible, live and online, for a number of years now
or
a combition of his position, the point he was staring at on the table and the lights shining on it caused his eyes to water in a situation where his every move will be studied by Phil Ivey, and he doesn't want to blink, rub his eyes or even move.
seriously, don't be a moron.
|
Bro it's not about being terrified it's about being nervous. If he wasn't so nervous he would notice his eyes were bothering him and he would adjust his position. Your second point is identical to your first point so if you're going to give two choices as to how someone's acting don't give the exact same choice for both. |

also people who play more online than live tend to be more nervous with physical chips in front of them even if the stakes are ten times lower than they normally play |

wow soo disapointing that he didn't call!, i mean it's durrr, don't you just have to cling to your pair, close your eyes and call vs him? must be +EV if you do that everytime till he adjusts =p
couldn't durr have a LOT of J's in his hand, plus many diamond draws and random airballs like 98o , damn
edit : also you don't just fold after saying "this is gonna be the best call of all time" i mean wtf!, i was soo sure he was gonna call after saying that |
