Episode 1 airs on October 12th, 2014. It's entitled "No Sanctuary."

Episode 1 Plot

Immediately after the events of the previous episode, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the group attempt to escape capture in Terminus while the inhabitants' true motives come to light.

Episode 1 Production

The episode is directed by Greg Nicotero and written by Scott M. Gimple. Nicotero is also expected to direct three other episodes in the fifth season.

Prior to the episode's release, certain scenes were reported to be cut from official broadcast due to being deemed too disturbing. The scenes remaining in the episode have been met with comparable observations by the show's actors. Steven Yeun said:

I remember a couple of scenes I would look over at what was going on in the scene and I would be like, ‘What the eff? What are we doing? How is this legal? It's grounded and real, too; it's not like torture or gore for no reason. It's literally, that is what would happen and we are trying to show it. It would not work on network television, let me tell you that.

Actress Lauren Cohan made similar comments regarding the episode, saying some of the scenes were "so disturbing," she did not think they would make it on TV.

I think the current season of Boardwalk Empire is a little slow, especially since this is the final season.

IMO, the creators of the show are doing too much with this season. The entire season is mixed with present day and flashbacks of Nucky's youth. There needs to be more action and death. There's plenty of people who can die, and we're already halfway through the season.

lol if u want action and death then obviously u should watch walking dead. Boardwalk empire is a small little gem with superb characters, dialogs. While watching i always feel like reading a poem.

watched s1 yesterday, this show is not very good

I'm surprised that this show still has such huge popularity, its so dull and boring :/ It's nowhere near shows like Boardwalk empire, BB, HoC. GoT, VIkings, True Detective ( i can go on for days)

I gave it a shot 3 times until the beginning of last season and i very much doubt anything has changed, considering no one answered Stim_Abuser

If you don't enjoy the show why are you asking us to justify it for you? It's a good show and although it's not a top-tier TV show.. it pretty much is for the genre of survival horror thrillers. I think for a lot of people that stuff doesn't even matter because they just enjoy the gore and fun of killing zombies/bad people which is excellent btw. The plot is ok and acting mostly ok. I enjoy the show a lot even though it's not in the same league as some you mentioned. First episode picked up from the last season well.

LOL @ the ridiculousness and harshness of your post careface. It isn't awful as is clearly demonstrated by its popularity. You are not special or higher than "normal people" either. It's just a TV show and some people do like to switch off because when they're on, especially with regards to movies/tv shows, almost everything becomes dull and predictable. IMO to a degree everyone has to switch off to enjoy most movies and tv shows to the max

IMO, season 1 was decent, but everyone who likes the show always says how good it was. I kept watching after season 1 because I saw potential in the show and I know that the AMC channel makes good shows.

The director and producer of the show said season 5 will stick more to the comic book when compared to previous seasons, so that's cool I guess. If it means we get to see more episodes like the most recent one, this season could be the best one yet.

Of course there are problems with any tv-show. To me any show or movie is about entertainment value and I get entertained shitloads with this show. If you claim that this is the worst tv-show ever you've not watched a lot of shows. Terrible Nova anyone? In any case, I think the show is very good so that whole elitism displayed by some is getting tiresome.

Gotta say I agree with the general sentiment that this show is awful. I made it through the first two seasons (it took a concerted effort to get through it), and have yet to gather the determination required to start season 3.

Although - it's not fair to judge other peoples opinions. I mean, for someone who consistently likes bad shows - you can say their opinion and advice on good shows is shit, but that's totally ok. If people like a horseshit show, good for them. They're finding enjoyment from something that you can't. My brother has a consistent lol-bad opinion on good shows/movies, so we just laugh off his suggestions.. but he did get us into breaking bad before it got big, so you never know.

That being said, I'm not surprised it has such a huge following. The concept is new - and you'd all be lying if you said you haven't had the 'zombie apocalypse survival talk' with your friends over a few beer. We already have meet up points ffs haha.

i used to really like this show too, but it's kinda boring honestly. and this last season feels so ill-paced. only 2 episodes left and chalky/van alden didn't get the deaths they deserved.

Of course if you compare anything with GOT, every show sucks. But i personally enjoy Walking dead more than 90% of TV shows out there. My girlfriends tryed to make me watch a lot of other shows, like once upon a time, Dr house, grey anatomy, The Mentalist,Castle, etc. For me the walking dead is 100x more entertaining.

This, i think TWT does a decent job when it come to unpredictability. Even tho i know its always really unlikely rick dies, i can't say the same about other characters. A lot of key characters died.

Show is up and down.

When it's good, it's very good. But there's a lot of pretty shit/forgettable filler in between that's there to make advertising $$.

Overall I find it enjoyable and tune in each week but it can be a bit frustrating at times. New episode was great so hopefully a good omen for season ahead. Although it's likely going to slow down a lot now as they build towards the mid-season finale and then the second half of next year.

Been liking the show ever since they killed Andrea, then I was filled with joy, warmth and happiness, so now I smile when I watch the show, cos she's not there, yay!!

Oh, and I thought the episode was cool!! Obviously not among the titans, but different kind of cool!!

Yeah but GoT has this unpredictability on top of everything else which is also great. It doesn't rely on those unpredictable deaths to make the show great. Whereas TWT should be unpredictable because its scope is limited: the screenwriting is terrible and the whole thing is monotonous and unexciting outside of people (potentially) dying. The best thing they could do is have you care about the main characters and feel like they might not make it out. If you can't make a smart show at least make it have some balls.

I think the death thing is genre limited but I'd happily be proven wrong. I think you need a pretty unusual plot structure in a survival horror zombie show for that to work. I mean, at the end of the day it's zombies we're talking about and that can only be taken so seriously, lol. People want to see a hero they like with a long-standing and consistently successful rate of survival. You could change it up but it's an increasingly bigger gamble in a show like this and IMO you're pretty much guaranteed to lose viewers. They can lose "key" characters but after each ep Rick needs to survive..

If the main lead character died pretty often the show would be more realistic (again, zombies != realism, not a focus) but for that to work the show would need to be more decentralised (like GoT) with each part strong enough that you won't miss another enough to stop watching/reading. I just don't see the walking dead or any other zombie show pulling that off. They sort of tried it last season when the group split up and we had around 4 different groups and stories going on at the same time with each trying to survive. It was watchable but the show just doesn't have the depth to pull it off and I just wanted them to group up again. See, temporarily that was fine but if it was for every season of the show then not so much. The thing in the back of every viewers mind is that zombies are coming and some shit is going down and they would prefer to see it go down as often as possible IMO. If I think about which parts of the walking dead I miss the most I'm thinking about when they first grouped up in season 1 and headed into Atlanta(?). That was fucking cool and what I want to see more of in the show.

Yeah, this season has been great thus far. They're doing so much that it keeps everything interesting and fresh, no more of this "learn about the bad guy in the first/second episode and then wait for him to die at the end." Too bad this show is on the AMC channel instead of HBO, cuz I would've liked to have seen Rosita's naked body when Red was boning her.

Ended up fast forwarding through 40% of the episode. That is all.

This is the best season yet imo

I was hesitant about watching the show this season. I like that there's alot of exploration going on, instead of camping out for the entire season

not even arguable that this is the best season. i still cant believe we spent 2 fucking seasons on hershey's farm and was really happy about the pace of the cannibal whose name i've already forgotten.

i'm glad were past that "we encountered this new person who seems nice but secretly has a stash of walkers and isn't all the way sane" story lines.

Yeah that's the thing. When you watch this show week to week it's pretty uneventful, especially with the episodes just centered on 2-3 characters. If you marathon them though, that stops being a problem.

Haha.. it does feel like the same old but I enjoyed the last 2 episodes quite a lot.

The main thing that really bothered me was how they used the group's (primarily Rick's) doubt, scepticism and insecurity to severely change the tone of the episode and puff a lot of smoke around so we don't really know what's going on. The suspense we felt for the entire episode didn't come from a known threat outside the barn but purely from the characters debate inside the barn i.e. the drama. A few people thought he might be honest and that they should explore it further whereas others dominated by responding harshly and controlling the screen/audience while still leaving nagging questions. They did a good job at showing their desperation especially with the build-up the past few episodes but I feel like they overdid the drama a bit. They also created the suspense they wanted but I respect the characters/show a bit less after the last episode. The group has found itself in a dire position without food, water or a real goal. Basically, they're lost but they're also more competent and well adjusted to living a life way tougher than most people can imagine. That's been pretty striking in the last few episodes through their decisions and behaviour. However, the human side of them we can relate to is being worn thin at the same time. Looking forward to discovering more in the next ep.

I guess since the first half of this season was so good, there needed to be a little lull in action after the break.

Game of Thrones starts next month, so I'm looking forward to that.

If it were me, i would add so much more stuff. they woulda found the 'main base' like 3 seasons ago and then there was like super evolved zombies over a period of frozeness. then there would be an epic war with a king zombie. nothing too special. but at least something.

Decent episode. I like this "real" side of Rick.

The season finale is next week, and it's 1.5 hours long. Should be good.

I really hoped the group already living there were upto something but it seems they're just genuinely soft. Disliked the end of the ep strongly but let's see where they're going with it in the finale...

Yeah, I thought it could be an upside down M, too. Although, I'm not sure what it stands for. Whatever it is, it will probably be a major focus of next season.

I disliked it because he was backstabbed and because he's been set up to fall. If the lady in charge of the town was trying to outplay Rick and garner support then she succeeded and he played right into her hands. Rick's own duty and judgement was undermined despite his background as a police officer and having lead the group for years now. Not saying he was 100% right although I do think he was mostly right but his own people should have had his back somehow. Initially people were on the same page as Rick but they've been socially infiltrated and divided by the new town. The creators of the show want to draw that aspect out into the finale and make us wonder if it'll lead to the destruction of the town out of spite or if they'll band together against the mysterious "W/M" or others. Pretty much anything could happen but it's likely a lot of the town will die next episode + walls breached imo

oh well I get you can dislike the groups actions, but I thought you meant from writing perspective, I never felt like they blindly followed Rick in fact there has been constant disagreement, Michonne just before getting in this town was arguing with him all the time and I think its easy to see for everyone that Rick is doing this because of the girl

I dont worship it at all, I just enjoy a zombie that focuses more on drama and the human aspect than just just some cheap hack and slack action movie, also it would become extremely repetitive if they just fought hordes and hordes of zombies, I think the show limits itself on how scary situations can be by how slow the zombies are, zombies in 28 days later simply create a much more tense feeling because you are not safe any second, on TWD zombies are slow that they are just an annoyance and pose no threat unless you somehow corner yourself in a stupid way or somebody blows up a random grenade.

This show is so slow!!! That's why I haven't watched the newest season, Tom and I are watching Vikings instead which I highly recommend.

The first half of the current season was the best part of the entire show. There was a lot going on. This Sunday will be a 1.5 hour season finale, which should be decent.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you. Constant actions movies would bore me to hell since we've been seeing those shits a LOT lately (Marvel's movies anyone ? Or transformers ? Or whatever they're throwing at us that comes from hollywood). I really like the psychology's part aswell. It's just that I saw someone resuming every show by a single picture, and I just couldn't unsee it :

I'm not sure what it is about this show. I enjoy it sometimes, get annoyed by it sometimes. Its not necessarily the downtime when the characters are doing nothing, I think its the lack of character development or lack of anything significant that happens when the show is slow.

I'm not saying the writers never develop characters, because they do. I just don't feel like they do it well sometimes. There just seems to be a lack of consistency with regard to how good the content is. I think that is the frustrating thing. Some episodes I feel like the show is great, others I feel like it's garbage. I mean that episode where Tyreese died, that episode was terrible, a waste of an hour. Felt like a complete filler episode. I know it was supposed to be some type of spiritual thing, and bringing characters back, etc. but it just sucked.

Another issue is I don't think many of the characters are very good actors. I think the guy that plays Rick is inconsistent. Sometimes does a good job, sometimes kind of poor. When characters die, depending who they are, sometimes I don't care that much. I didn't really care when Tyreese died; I don't think his character was developed well and I don' t think the guy who played him was a very good actor and perhaps that combination made me feel that way. The same could be said for Noah a couple episodes ago; although the graphic way he died made it more unsettling, but that was just because of the graphic nature, I really didn't care that the character died specifically.

Overall the show is inconsistent and I think that is the root of frustration for many, including me. But I will keep watching because of the flashes of brilliance that occur occasionally with acting, story, and writing. But those moments are too far apart in my opinion.

The season finale was decent. I was hoping it would be better, but whatever...

Yeah I watched Talking Dead for like.. the second time ever because of the finale and some excerpt was shown about the whole Terminus thing in the beginning of the season. It felt so long ago, like it actually happened at the beginning of last season. Pretty much proves it to me that they had good pace this season.

Best scene was when Rick blasted that nigga's dome with no hesitation.
