Back from NY/Canda by RICHI8, January 13


Just got back from my trip to New York last night. It was a pretty fun trip and nice to see my friends and family. I was hoping to do a little more partying since I was on vacation, but we had one good night.

It was really, really cold out there. I can't believe I used to be used to those temperatures. I was freezing my ass off. I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY. It's a pretty lame city but it's where I grew up so it has some special value to me. All the city is really known for is it's food and the Buffalo Bills losing 4 straight super bowls. Ever since the industrial jobs have shifted to overseas the economy in that city has been very bad.

I have a lot of friends out here in San Diego but there's still no thing like the friends you grew up with. It's very different from people you meet when you're older. You have those special memories and you were able to grow up with each other and see how each of you changed so when I get together with my "old" friends it's really kinda cool.

On Friday we all went up to Clifton Hill. It's a little area just over the border in Canada that has a lot of cool little bars and clubs. A couple of my friends are still 20 so that was the best thing we could do that would involve everyone. We got a couple hotel rooms for the night and just raged it up. Went to 2 bars and then went to this club called Rumours. We got 3 bottles there and just had a good old time.

We all got drunk as hell and I got separated from my friends while I was trying to run game on a group of girls. After the club closed I ended up in a burger king chatting with a couple girls. They actually were coming back to the hotel room with me but then the drunkness started to kick in even more and I kinda forgot where the hotel room was. I ended up just walking away from them and drunken stumbled around the Clifton Hill area. Eventually I found a cab and he's like "uhhh.. you're hotel is right there" as he points literally across the street. Go me.

Next thing I remember I woke up in the hotel room, not even knowing how I got in because I couldn't find my room key anywhere. There was money all over the room and my wallet was on one side of the room and my clothing on another and my phone was in the bathroom. There was also no sign of my birth certificate or debit card. SHIT! I was freaking out. I searched the whole room and still didn't find it.

After a while we had to check out and upon checking out the hotel lobby girl was like "I think these belong to you sir." She pulls up my BC and debit card. I was so so so so happy. I could have married this chick I was so happy. At that moment I was on the phone with my bank canceling my card and I just hung up on them. Huge sigh of relief. So after that we merrily went back to the good ol' USA and got some hung over breakfast.

That was pretty much the most fun I had while I was home. Most of it was just family shit and kicking it with friends and former booty calls. Now I'm back in SD and I'm gonna go take a drive around and get some sun and maybe chill by the beach. After that it's grind time. I hope to get in a total of 750 SnGs this months.

Zelda by k2o4, January 13


I've gotten nostalgic for old games recently. Been thinking about the original Zelda on NES, all the mario games especially Mario 64, obv Ocarina of time too, and wishing I hadn't lost all my old systems. I had NES, Super NES and Nintendo 64 and they all got lost over the years as I moved from place to place. I had always planned to replay those games cause I beat them originally with my brother and there were sections he played without me, plus they're all just a great time. I'm pretty upset with myself for losing all of those games and systems.

I've decided that my first splurge once I become a "baller" is gonna be on buying all of those old systems and games.

But for the mean time I was at my dads house this weekend and found my brothers old game cube and sitting with it was the newest Zelda! I played it with him but he beat at least half of it while I was off doing other shit so now I've restarted it from the beginning. The most awesome part is that I got my GF to play with me and she's digging it, so we've been doing Zelda sessions over the last few days! It's a lot of fun to play together and I'm excited to beat the entire thing with her.

We've also been watching Lost since xmas. Since the 27th of December we've watched all but the last 3 episodes of season 4. So that's like 4 seasons in 2 weeks. We've done some serious marathons. We watched the first season in about 40 hours (had to take breaks to eat and sleep, hehe). We're gonna finish season 4 tonight most likely. Then we don't plan to watch any more lost till season 5 is over so that we can power through. I can't imagine watching lost 1 episode at a time and waiting a week to see what happens next.

Other good news is that I hit 100k FPP this morning and bought my bonus. I was at 99,600 FPP when I went to bed tonight so I got up this morning and did a quick session to get the last 400 FPP and buy the bonus as soon as I hit 100k to make sure I took the least time necessary to clear it. I need to get 10,500 base FPP and I can't remember if 1 base fpp = 1 vpp or if it's a bit better than that. I hope that's note the case though cause if I gotta get another 10,500 VPP then I don't think I'll clear this till the end of the month, and I was hoping to take no more than 1 week.

Overall things are quite good! BR is up to 4.8k and hopefully I can heater it up a bit and get up to 6k soon. We'll see.

i realize how much i absolutely SUCK at poker and how i have NO idea what i'm doing when i'm playing.

it gets me a little down but what can i do but keep playing?

i'm getting coaching as SOON as i can afford it. i'd absolutely LOVE to get a good coach.

couldnt sleep this morning so i put in a few hrs of FR, won 9 bi, ran pretty well and was only sucked out on a few times

feels good

this session gives me a nice cushion to be on 30bi for nl10 tomorrow

hopefully i continue to run 5-15 bi a day at nl10 and get to nl25 in a few days (only need to win 45-50 bi before moving up)

[NL10] Day 3.1 by Uptown, January 13


Gonna just bundle this into NL10 blogs since really I'm fixing my game for the purpose of being in NL10 (though I am playing at NL5).

Two biggest leaks I'm trying to fix by dropping down to NL5 are:

1) Not stealing / isolating enough from CO/BU. Before, my steal percentage was around 23%, which is far too low. I'm trying to get this up to around 30-35% over a large sample size.

2) Spewing postflop. In particular, keen identification of flops in which cbetting is +EV. Also not being tempted to cbet on marginal boards (or even at all??) against villains who have below 30% fold to cbet.

One minor(?) issue I have over a small sample size is raising a ton from CO and then being called by the button with about 33VPIP then kinda getting fuxxored OOP on the flop. Or in a different situation, isolating a limper then having BB call or something like that (this isn't nearly as big a deal as I'm IP so w/e, if it's 3 way it's a coinflip whether I can cbet even on decent flops because it's 3way...)

Unfortunately I couldn't get in the hands I wanted to today (only like 370/1000 goal), but I did manage to play for like the first time in forever w/o browsing TL/LP or chatting on MSN, so that's an improvement. I foresee my sessions to be about 1-1.5 hours, having 3-4 sessions per day.


Actually, come to think of it I have a question. Say you're the sb with KJo, KTo, ATo, something like that. folds around to BU (say 30/10 or so), who limps. What do you do? Right now I tend to just muck it b/c I hate playing these marginal hands OOP potentially 3 way. What if there are two limpers including BU - (I guess I fold here obv if I'm folding to just one limper, but if you do raise to like 6-8xbb, does having a potential 4way pot deter you from doing the same?)

THE RAKE! 2009 WINNING GUIDE by NeillyJQ, January 13


I wonder how an everyday persons reaction to the phrase :

I've come up with a few good responses I think I'd hear, what do you guys think?

so i set some serious goal for the year, have been doin well stickin to my rollio and have went from nl2 to nl10 in the past 6 days, well tomorrow will be my first day at nl10

im doing progressive br management, suggested by maynard who i had a conversation about, and found that its definately the way for me to go, theres no reason pissing around w/ 100 bi on nl2, i proved to myself last month i can do it when i started the 25k challenge when i won 80bi at nl5 in a week and was very comfortable doing so

after which i was kind of in a bind for money and did some degen shit that i later regretted, trying to net a big win before mid december for new years purposes, meh oh well, down 1k or so for december until i hit the casino(literally broke the record for biggest stack ever at 1/2 in Salamanca Casino in New York) (right on the border of PA and NY)

Finished Day 1 with $2950 in about 13 hrs of work, ALL AT 1/2 on a 200 Max Buy-IN table where most the table buys in with 60-150, hardly any good regs though, but some players that can definitely hold there own vs the other casino regs

I went back a few more days and mopped up too but nothing close to that day

Ok enough about that;

I know this is gonna get mad hate, but i feel 100% that I will do this right, I recognize poker is now a business and degening around is just for fun when u have a ton of money, or at a tiny stake that won't hurt your roll

So everyone, its a new year, a new start for me, I won a nice chunk over new years to help my situation and no longer have the stress that I had

Things are lookin good, starting nl10 tomorrow, need to win 45 bi at nl10 before I have 650 and go to NL25

So if you read through this, you see what im up to, and hopefully this can help out some players in need of direction, I've had tons of great players giving me direction lately and its done nothing but help me realize how theres tons of monkeys on stars and all poker sites just trying to pay my bills, i just have to let them and chill

I'd almost say that I think I've finally had a relevation or two

When I came back from xmas, i put 600 on and played tons of mtt's and dusted it, said FUCK that, IM SO SICK OF DEPOSITING, IM RUNNIN $100 more in MTTs to build it into something! So i did that, dusted it again.
At this point I was uber pissed, I've been pissin money around so much since learning HU and I fuckin refuse to do so anymore.

So I'm sittin there, after all the new years and payin back some debts and that 800$ blown in mtt's, my moneys been just about cut in half.

I say FUCK THIS, LAST TIME, ONLY $50, TURN IT INTO SOMETHING! I'm NEVER DEPOSITING AGAIN AFTER THIS, and the guide was made.

So hopefully sharing this with the community is a good idea and not a bad one, i've been thinking whether I should or should not for a few days now

So I decided to smoke a blunt to dl the HEM trial and play a 4table session to check it out and the allin ev stuff which i had never done before.

50nl session

my question is this; is it saying i ran about 4bi below expection when it shows my all in ev above my actually showdown winnings.

bluffing off a stack on the river wouldnt affect the seperation between blue and green lines right?

It didn't feel like i ran THAT bad i lost a 4way all in with KK on a 3flush board with the kc which maybe skewing it.

good to see i am winning in non showdown pots i had a feeling i did. definitely at the expense of the blue line but im working on it!

No itch? by EXCELED, January 12


After a pretty wild weekend (see previous blog) I thought I would be putting in some serious hands today but I honestly havent had the urge to play today. This is weird because usually I really want to play after the weekends. Feels weird lol. I know I should be putting in some hands so I can make some dough but I dont think it will be happening today.

Today I had my first day at school too. Felt kinda weird being back at school after taking a while off. I gotta say though there is so much pussy at Fanshawe it is rediculous. Every corner you go around you see atleast 2-3 girls that you would love to poach.... honestly its crazy. I heard the school bar is pretty rockin some nights so Ill probably check it out and hopefully meet some of this talent haha.

I only had one class today so it was a pretty easy day. Im taking a construction course so I didnt think there would be any girls in my class and I was right. BUT there is one smokin hot blonde. I couldnt believe it lol I thought she might have walked into the wrong class but I was wrong. Definitly going to introduce myself lol. Full day of classes tomorrow though starting at 8am so thats going to suck, I havent been up that early in a while so Im for sure going to need a coffee to get my day going.

Im planning on getting back to the gym too. I havent gone for atleast about a month which is very unlike me becasue I used to go atleast 4 times a week. I checked out my school gym and it looks like its got everything I need so tomorrow Ill test it out and hopefully be able to get back into things because I miss going.

As for poker... I gotta get grinding again lol. I kno Im going to have a semi nasty phone bill coming up so Im hoping I can pay it off using winnings. Theres a little goal for myself lol. Tomorrow hopefully I will have the itch to play... a big itch. I want to try and get in atleast 2k hands tomorrow to make up for lost time lol.

My buddy is on his way here so I gotta go get the BONG ready.... it kinda smells right now.... to much use this weekend and not enough cleaning.

Breakeven on19k hands by k2o4, January 12


January has been odd. I started strong and was pretty excited. I've rebuilt my roll so that I'm over 4k and I'm mostly playing NL100 with the occasional juicy NL200 table mixed into my NL100 tables. I've done a good job of avoiding tilt. Had a few tilty spews but always quit as soon as I do em so it's never more than 1 a session. And I feel like I've played pretty damn well. Run into a lot of coolers and suckouts.

I feel like I have a lot of these break even stretches. Long ones. It always happens right after I have a semi heater, which is usually consisting of me not getting sucked out on for a thousand hands. I will shoot up after a great session since my hands hold up for a few sessions and then I get these long 10k+ break even stretches. They used to be 10k downswings cause I'd get frustrated and tilt. So at least now I'm turned em into break even stretches.

But shit, why can't I get a 100k hand heater? I seem to get like 100k hand downswings but never heaters. wtf rite? Oh well, at least I get FPPs. Very close to being able to buy the 1.5k bonus so that's a plus. Hopefully by Wednesday.

negtaive 20 buys woohooo by PowerHausAA, January 12


weekend was fun in general(minus below). who woulda thought arizona was gonna beat carolina?!?! actually lil wayne did predict it on espn's first take, in fact he got all 4 picks right(maybe the only person in the country). i had some friends over for the games both sat and sun. although sunday i was playing/watching and my friends got to see the fury that is a bad poker session(i tried to hold it in as much as possible). jill is a die hard giants fan and she was pretty devastated. i generally root for NY teams(minus rangers/knicks and buffalo teams dont count), cuz a winning team = a happy city. i know theres a lot of mets/yankees, jets/giants, islanders/rangers rivalry, but its good for local businesses and give the the town something to talk about, so i root for the majority of the ny teams. ive been sleeping really early these days(earliest i go to bed is around 4 am est), so ive been playing pretty early(noonish). i stopped by broadway(my local bar) last night for a few drinks for the UNC/WAKE game, but ive been going in a lot less(and drinking a lot less), which is a good thing. im also passing out more frequently when i drink nowadays(more frequently than usual). i need to get back into drinking shape lol.

eh..once its done its done, cant let it linger, just get it out of your system and saddle up again. so many of those buys accounted for really bad play on my part. i put my money in way too money times crushed and when i did get it in good was getting destroyed on the river and ran into overfulls vs quads few times. i was probably running like 20 percent on coin flips that were for 75BB or more. still doesn't excuse me for losing more than i should. bad runs always turn me into a calling station and i should just quit instead of trying to hit my daily VPP/FPP quota.

once i get in this general area of the red i buy myself something extravagant. call it reverse logic if you want. the weekend was fairly rough as u can see by the stats. not the worst ive had but none the less pretty bad. i thought at the beginning of they year i should be able to make 300k + (240 coming from bonuses) on the high side and 250 on the really low side. in 2008 i had 2 really bad months, one for (-20k, and one for -9k) the rest of the year was fairly good for me, and even on breakeven/negative months bonuses would put me in the green. ever since ive put in higher volume of hands/tables ive definately seen a drop in profit/hand, but i like the insurance of guaranteed money through bonus, so im going to try to play a little more of a style that doesnt yield -4k sessions(lol so is everyone else i guess).

orrrrrr the 3 x 30 inchers ($5,279), i dont think this is necessary, but still considering. dont know what kind of computer setup id need for this.
