So being back in Phuket I got my laptop again and a nice room with internet access. Been catching up on the world and had the chance to watch a few episodes of Rescue Me, which used to be one of my favorite shows. Season 3 kinda fell flat for me so I stopped watching for a while. I don't even remember when I watched season 4. But I DL'd season 5 before coming to Asia so we decided to give it a shot.
I'm glad we did cause 5 episodes in and it's fucking fantastic - I think it will probably be the best season. The acting and cinematography have all been great, and now they're addressing 9/11 in the most moving way I have ever seen. The fact that 9/11 has always been more of a back story that people don't really talk about has made it so the characters could develop independent of it. But now we're learning about 9/11 and the consequences for the people who were there in such a raw and real way and it's very believable because these characters are so well established. Plus I know that the writers for the show have spent a lot of time with many NYC firefighters and write their stories into the characters on the show, so most of the stories we're hearing are true or close to it.
And of course the show is still totally hilarious, and I find myself laughing like crazy one second and then the next scene is tugging tears to my eyes. I think these guys have done an amazing job with the show and I'm insanely impressed right now.
Guy is some MMA-fighter known for some crappy MTV-show, a good record and various entrances which usually includes dancing and hot Asian chicks. Here he speaks about his next fight (tomorrow?) and a lot of the crap he's talking about sounds a bit like some of us thinks about poker. How you need to be on top of your game etc. He might possibly be my favourite fighter, or at least top 5.
So ive been in Thailand for a couple of weeks now. The other night me and Night2o1 decide to hit the town and degen it up for a bit. He knows the area a bit better than i do, so i follow him.
We arrive at the bar area in Chiang Mai a litle late, most places shut around 1am. We find a place and play a little pool. Bar tender asks if we want a single drink sang-som or if we want a bottle - we choose bottle, which commits us to a night of debauchery.
After we polish off the small bottle we hit a ladyboy bar. We order a couple of pink lady-boys as the first cocktail. I tell Night he should ring the bell and buy everyone a drink. Hes such a fuckin degen he sounds off and all the lady-boys chime up.

Went to the Yankee game last night with my fiance and a female friend of ours who bought us the tickets as an engagement gift. We got shitfaced and had a good time. Had great seats and the yankees won 6-2. My boy Matsui, last years WS MVP, even hit a HR for the Angels in the 2nd and the whole place, including us, gave him a big cheer. It was Jackie Robinson day and everyone was wearing #42, very cool, but also very confusing at times. My fiance can name most of the players, but when they are in the field she couldnt tell one from another with the same jersey on. They announce everyone when they come to bat, and everyone is called by #42 lol. First inning my friend is like, "didnt he just bat?" Only small issue was I came in shorts and a yanks Tshirt, it was 70 degrees at start time. By the 2nd inning it was like below 50 and super windy. Every sweatshirt around was like $100 so I was like fuk that. Ended up buying a yankees blanket($25)that covered all of us since we were all freezing, worked well.
Have not been able to get many hands in at all this month due to engagement and tons of stuff going on. During the week im up at 630 back from work at 630, then hit the gym spend some time w/ the future ball and chain and its like shit I gotta do it all over again. Even if I do get an hour or so of free time Im so physically and mentally drained I dont have it in me to grind. I make it a point to not play when im tired, problem is im always tired. I work from home 1 day a week so I usually play that day but thats not enough.
Anyway I planned on golfing this weekend and some other stuff but looks like rain all weekend so I plan to get some grind in. I still got stuff to do like crap to get a new passport, lookin for a new car, and chillin w/ the woman. I would like to play like 10k hands but 5k would be great. Hopefully writing it here will keep me motivated. Next weekend is super busy for me with a big dinner for my grandparents 50th anniversary and my fiance's bday but after that I have to get into a nice rythym with the gym, poker, and life with a main goal of trying to get more sleep at night.
Really havn't played much, up a lot due to running good/playing really well. Been playing much less omaha (bad action for some reason) and been crushing 5/10 and 10/20 NL instead.
BJJ is going good too. My conditioning sucks ass due to being a lazy poker player but my balance seems to be above average and I'm very limber for my size which helps a ton. In sparring I'm doing ok against most guys, but the ones that are in shape and/or has been doing some kind of grabbling before still have an edge, obviously. I did, however, superown this 30ish y/o 100 and something kilo guy by basically underrestimating his strenght, get pushed to the ground, do some kind of panic-mood-gaurd and then just triangle him. I think he kind of thought I had the same ability as him to actually reach anything with my legs (ie: non to speak of) and got caught of guard by my general awesomeness. Then I managed to do the same thing once again and later sweep -> armbar from mount him all within 3 minutes. It felt really good that stuff actually works.
In positional sparring (no submissions and when you get a dominant pos for 3 sec you just change so the other guy starts in that position) I managed to own my room mate which was really fun since he usually owns me. Then I did some regular sparring against some guy who seemed to be in much better shape then me. Got mount, figured I'd try to do that Aoki-thingy with a gogoplata from mount, obviously failed miserably and got swept. From then on I had some decent armbar attempt from the bottom but in the end he passed me, got my back and RNC'd me.
Was happy about it anyway since I learn stuff. Basically I think I need to do some running or whatever so that I actually get some conditioning going and then figure out wtf I'm supposed to do when I get sidemounted.
Weird thing is that despite actually making more then most people in Sweden does in a year in two weeks I'm still more excited for BJJ then poker right now. That feels a bit weird, but I'll take it I guess.
Really looking forward to Unibet Open Bulgaria in June. It'll be so much fun it's ridiculous. Also, since I'm this new healthier me I might actually be sober enough to hold on to a conversation for a bit so if you're going there don't hesitate to say hi.
Just curious what you low/mid stakes players use for table selection if anything. I tried tabletracker and SpadeEye/Telescope for a day but it got way too confusing and laggy and since datamining isn't allowed I don't feel they help that much. Do you guys actually join waitlists and cut down on tables until you get your spot? How do you decide which tables to waitlist? Is it okay to start new tables? Thanks for help
