Cause I'm about to post about how well I'm doing, so I'm probably going to screw myself over. Oh well, luck doesn't exist right? Just random fluctuation's in numbers over time or some shit like that...

So I had the downswing which sucked, then a monster session, and then I broke even over and over. I think I could have been recording winning sessions if I wasn't making so many stupid calls. The last few days my folds have improved and so have my calls... caught many a bluffer. That has lead to this graph:

And this PT SS of my entire time playing NL cash games since the tail end of august, so about 2 months:

A Few Hands

Here are a few hands that I need help on. Still got plenty more Q's to ask but tryin to only post a few hands at a time. I also started a thread on the forum here so you can go give input there if you want, or just post in the actual hand comments or the blog comments. I check all 3 so I'll see it!

Help a Guy Out

What to do with JJ in this situation...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/300448

Fold this river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/300449

Check turn, call river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/300455

Ok, I'm confused... With his C on the flop and check on the turn, with the flush completing, what's the move here? Or should I have just laid down the A8 to the bet?

That's all for now.

Just in From Rica
  k2o4, Oct 20 2007

Well work and travel have killed my poker playing. Plus Hitman: Blood Money hasn't helped either. God, that game is sweet. I'm eager to beat it so that I can focus fully on poker! It's hard to resist the urge to go out and assassinate some mob boss or child sex trader.

Got home from Costa Rica last night. Another business trip and many good meetings. No time for poker though, except one night of NL25 on my sexy new laptop in the hotel, which yielded another break even session. Been having a lot of those.

I came down with the most disgusting sinus infection while on the plane flying to Rica, which basically made the entire trip hell. It started with horrible pain in my right cheek, then this weird drip which smelled horrible. Not a runny nose, no mucus, just a weird drip every 10 - 15 minutes. That kept getting worse and so did the smell. I feel like I'm rotting from the inside and it's the only thing I can smell. And it's a bad smell that I can't outrun, I can't close the windows or lock the door, cause no matter what I do it's always there making me feel sick, and disgusting, ruining the taste of food and leaving me worried that everyone else can smell it too - which luckily they can't. For them.

Going to get antibiotics today and clear it up. I hope they work quickly - dunno if I can stand this smell much longer.

As for poker, things haven't been especially good. Had a downswing for about 3,000 hands and then hit a huge heater and won everything back plus more. Since that session I've broken even over and over again, or just had a baby profit. I think that I was just having weird luck for a bit, but my last session was definitely about to be at least a 2 buyin win but I screwed myself with some terrible calls.

So let's post some hands eh? I haven't even looked at PT hands for about 2 weeks so I have a LOT to post, but I'll spread the posting out over time and be more selective on what I do post.

Help Me On These

1) standard?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298814

2) Read is complete Loose/passive fish who rarely ever bets. His call on the turn made me think an 8, flush draw, str8 draw or a jack or ten. the river completed the FD so 2 of those hands were beating me... I figured him to not be the type to bluff, so I figured he'd check behind with a busted draw or jack/ten vs that scary board and only bet an 8 or flush. i wonder if I was right =)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298817

3) Feel like I hit situations like this quite often - right to fold here?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298818

4) Bad fold? Maybe lead into this flop?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298820

5) Is this standard?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298821

6) I know this was a completely idiotic play, but how do you handle this situation better? I figure this is a check behind on the turn and fold the river w/out improving situation.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298822

7) Do you double barrel this? I say no cause with that flop there's not much for him to call with other than a King, a set, a low pocket pair or air. I feel like most of the time the second barrell will be representing his hand.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/298823

No graphs or PT SS's cause they look pretty much the same as my last post. But I do have some new pic's of me and the lovely lady which I thought I'd share!

PIC's!

The two of us on our way to a weddding... not ours, that's still to be scheduled.

My lady

She arouses me...

So that's all for today. Off to get ready for the sMi Poker Tournament. If you haven't heard about it go read the news here.

Been A While
  k2o4, Oct 11 2007

Fell off of the blog posts for a bit cause my NEW COMPUTER ARRIVED!!! I am in computer heaven as for the first time in my life I own a computer that can do everything I want it to do! Installed Half-Life2 and CounterStrike: Source with it. Haven't played that game in ages and it's just as fun as it ever was, and much more entertaining than BW lately. BW runs great though (some people with new comps have problems getting it running) and on this massive screen the units are plump and easy to select.

I even bought Halflife: Source for $10 off of the steam thingy so that I could replay the classic with my fiance. She isn't a big gamer, but she likes some of the shooter stuff and I've gotten her to play CS before. HL scares here, especially when the crabbies decided to jump at us from outta nowhere. It has been damn fun gaming again - haven't done it in ages.

Work has also gotten very hectic, so in the mix of transferring everything to my new computer, reinstalling all my programs, and working 8 hours a day, poker took a back seat. But now that I've gotten everything moved over I am very glad I got the 2.0 Intel Core Duo cause I can 12 table with PT pulling stats every minute and PAH displays everything perfectly without laggy one bit... even while PAH is updating its database! Dear god, orgasm is cumming now, turn penis away from computer!

Amongst this chaos I made my move up to NL25. The first session was very shaky as whenever I move to a new limit I feel like everyone is better than me. By the end of the first session I was confident that there were still many many donkey's around to take money from and started feeling comfortable. The 2nd session went well too, but then the 3rd session was painful and the 4th one was downright depressing. Started a minor downswing but fought off tilt and have been able to reverse it with authority over the last 2 sessions and am now up 2 buyins from when I started going down. Here's my NL25 graph to illustrate these words in pretty red lines:

I moved to NL25 with 750 and got up to $810 after the first 2 sessions, then crashed down to $715 or so at the low point. So a 4 buyin loss, which isn't horrendous but at a new limit it feels quite large. Was also hitting a new level of "cold cards" and in one session I hit about 5 sets that all lost... and they were the only sets I hit. This was the closest I'd been to a bad tilt in the last 3 weeks and I nearly went there, but was able to get myself away from the computer in time to save my BR. Probably should have gotten away even sooner cause I think I was on a minor tilt for a bit and lost more money than I needed to.

Now I wanna step back a bit and look at my NL cash game career since I started it about a month and a half ago... So, 36,000 hands into my move out of Limit Cash games and SNG into the world of NL Cash games, here are my results:

I'm curious to see how my overall graph looks when I make it to 100,000 hands, which is what people tend to say is the minimum hands you need to play before you can tell whether you're really a winning player or not.

No hands to post this time, so might as well close it out with a SS of PT. Hands will come in a later blog... but there will be a bunch on the forums sooner.

My First Graph
  k2o4, Oct 01 2007

Finally downloaded PokerGrapher and am popping my graphing cherry with my entire time playing NL10 over the last 24 days... so basically my September, though I did spend a few days and NL5 in the beginning of the month.

I have also failed to make any mention of my personal life in this blog (outside of a new computer). This has lead me to having my ass kicked by my girlfriend... she may only be 5'5" but she's got a sharp tongue and, well, I'm a total sucker for her. Ah ha, I fucked up already - I said girlfriend instead of fiance... If I don't post for a few days, plz call the Denver police and report a missing person!

Just kidding. She's a total sweetheart and I feel bad for not giving her the proper face time in this blog... because blogs are like the most important thing in the world, rite? OMG LIKE YES! BLOGGGS R GOSU!!

Speaking of face time...

Wish I had some new pictures for you guys who have already seen these ones, but they're on her computer and I'm too lazy to get em off right now.

Getting ready to have my first session on NL25... slightly nervous, kinda excited, and overall eager to play my best. Just finished updating my PAH database so that I can try to limit the lag while I play. Gonna play 4-6 tables for now instead of 10-12 like I have been doing at NL10. Focus on reading and getting used to this limit... see if there's any big change in skill. Plus it's a Monday night, so I'm probably not going to be seeing that many scrubs. Let's hope it goes well!

It's all New!
  k2o4, Sep 30 2007

New computer was purchased today. New limit has been reached. And a new personal record for bad beats in one session has been achieved. Sweet!

So this was a good weekend for poker despite a series of painful bad beats. I've never had so many sets lose, and had so many hands go painfully in 1 session. 8 tough loses in the course of about 2 hours left me on the verge of tilt. Somehow I was able to get myself together and make back the losses plus 1 buy-in for a winning session. That's what happens on laggy tables on a Friday night!

The Bad Beats

For those of you who enjoy watching my suffering...
KK Vs QQ
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284718

AK Vs T6 - Fold this river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284722

44 Vs KT - Arggghhh! Doesn't get much better than this, or much worse!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284727

55 Vs 97 - Sets sucked for me tonight!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284730

JJ Vs AQ - Lost the race
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284736

JJ Vs K7 - Argh
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284745

AQ Vs QJ - Oh well, shit happens.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284744

KK Vs AT - I swear, my sets were cursed tonight!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284755

I know I know... don't post your bad beats. But this is special to me, cause I've never had so many in one session.

NEW LAPTOP!!!

I've managed to keep the same Dell Latitude for the last 5.5 years... that's a long time for 1 laptop. But it is old and crappy now, and multi-tabling with PAH and PT running turns into a lagfest. It's time to upgrade and I was able to find a steal of a deal on the Dell Refurbished site. I wanted to buy something for less than $1,000 but the specs I wanted were not materializing for less than $1,300. I was about to give up and just go for something worse when I found this beautiful Vostro that had been scratched... that scratch saved me $800.

Here are the spec's on my new baby:
-Vostro 1700 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
-8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
-Genuine Windows Vista Business
-9 Cell Primary Battery
-160 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
-Bluetooth Wireless Card 355
-17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen
-2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)
-Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n Mini Card
-256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Back To Poker

So I hit a bunch of idiotic hands. Then I also hit a few where I don't know where I went wrong, or how to play it better. Let's look at those first... and hopefully someone will give some advice in the comments.

  Not sure about em:

AJ Vs AA - Do I call this turn? Was I right to be Aggr with the case ace and top pair?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284732

AA Vs K7 - Not sure when to get away from this...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284743

A7 Vs 66 - God I suck with 2pair... do I need to slow down somewhere on this?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284747

QQ Vs KQ / AA - Was this a bad push? Seems like it was a good idea to get the other guy all in if I was going to call the shortstack's push anyway...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284786

AK Vs ?? - Bad raise? Good fold?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284788

KJ Vs 85 - This is that damn "Call the flop, bet out the turn" pattern that I hate. I figured I was beat but the bets were small. Should I get away from this or stick it out?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284794

The weekend came out well though with a total of 6 buyins won in 2 sessions (Friday night and Sunday night) which brought me up to $754.00. That brings me above me benchmark for NL10 and signifies that I'm well enough rolled to move up to NL25. I feel confident enough in my game to move up the limit, and now I've got a solid cushion to do it. Last time I moved to NL25 I had $310 and within 2 days I was down to $12. I think I'll try and avoid doing that again.

Here's a SS of all my progress since I started playing NL cash games about 35 days ago with a roll of about $550.

Definitely winning over 29,000 hands. Been reading that you need to hit 100,000 hands to really get any idea of whether you're a winning player or not. So in about another 2 months I should see if I really am any good. I'm also hoping to get up to NL100 by January, and NL200 by March. But not setting any goals which are too concrete cause all I can do is play my best and hope that the cards come well enough to bring in the money.

So life is overall pretty good as of this update... moving up a limit in poker, got a new comp on the way, and played through a series of bad beats without tilting horribly. I'm excited to be at NL25 and hope I can keep winning like I have been.

To close this post out, I'm gonna put down the stupid, idiotic, moronic hands of this weekend so that I never forget em and hopefully never do them again. Some where minor tilt, others were just stupidity at its finest.

  Stupid Plays:
KQ Vs TT - When do I get out of this? Check river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284720

AK Vs J9 - He was laggy but still, bad call.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284723

AK Vs 87 - Stupid.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284725

AJ Vs A7 - Stupid again. These pushes beat TpTk!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284728

AA Vs 99 - Stupid flop push.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284735

AA Vs K7 - Not sure when to get away from this

TT Vs KK - Even when I hit a 2 outter I lose!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/284746

A4 Vs A8 - Meh, obviously vs another ace and chances are very high that it's better than mine!

Leaking All Over The Table
  k2o4, Sep 27 2007

I have been flooding the hands box with my mass hand uploads cause I'm too lazy to click that little box saying not to make it public. I think this is probably annoying so from now on I will try to be less lazy. Damn extra mouse clicks. Is there a setting to change the default on that check box???

First day playing since leaving Costa Rica. The flight back was horrible - 16 straight hours of travel cause we had to fly to Miami, then Houston, then Denver. Was supposed to go through Chicago but we missed our connection. Thank god, I really didn't want to add those extra hours. Was too dead to play yesterday but today after a nice day getting caught up at work I got in a session tonight. Came out ahead again with a 3 buyin win, but man did I ever leak all over the place. Raising a little too much PF with marginal hands. Got a long list of losing hands and only a few winners. And I don't think that any of my losers helped me get the winners... no image building or anything of that sort.

Been on a nice streak overall though. Hope it keeps strong so that I can hit $750 and move up to NL25 with 30 buyins and a nice cushion. I think I'm about ready for it, but am glad to take a few more sessions to plug up these leaks before making the move.

Top 6 Hands That I Dunno How To Handle:

1) Check river? Bet river smaller?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282478

2) Called him down cause I had a feeling that he thought I was being tricky... glad I did!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282479

3) Bet half the pot on the river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282482

4) I had made a bunch of PF raises and followed with cont bets so I decided to check behind for once. Then made an attempt with the J on the board. When the ace hit and he bet out, I got worried about 2 pair and thought he might have AJ so I didn't raise and just called. Maybe I shoulda been thinking that this was a reason to fold instead since he was a passive player... i dunno
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282465

5) Not sure how to play this differently... feel like checking the flop is too weak and gotta bet that turn vs him since he calls a lot.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282457

6) Get out on the turn?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282458

THE FOLLOWING HANDS ARE ONLY HERE FOR MYSELF - I WANT TO LOOK BACK AT THEM IN THE FUTURE. IF YOU'RE KIND ENOUGH TO GIVE INPUT, PLEASE DO IT ON THE 6 HANDS ABOVE WHICH ARE 3 WINNERS AND 3 LOSERS THAT I MESSED UP

LOSERS:

Cooler, KK allin vs QQ T_T
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282451

Fold to flop raise eh?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282454

Check river me thinks...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282455

Planned to Cr the Flop. Then I fucked up with the weak turn bet, but figured with the checks behind no one was that strong and wanted to entice em to call even though they only got 2 to 1 odds.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282460

Guy was a bit aggr but I got worried on the turn, couldn't figure what he'd have that was worse than my hand.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282461

Wanted to CR the flop since I'd seen him bet in pos when checked to a few times...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282463

Bad bluff.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282464

I think this was a good fold. The guy was TA.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282466

It was good of me to get out of the way on this one, but should I have avoided the flop raise? I think it was ok. Once I saw the PFR cold call I put him on a set of kings, so taht was nice to see come out. Was thinking the other player might have AK, wrong on that count.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282468

Thought I had a tell on him being on a flush draw, was wrong. I knew he was feeling weak, but it wasn't a flush draw that had him feeling that way. Meh.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282470

This was a horrible hand. I ch'd the scary flop. Hit the set and was worried about a straight, so I didn't get crazy. Then I got stupid on the river.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282471

Hmmmmm cont bet fails, give up on turn. right? =)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282472

WINNERS:

This was a fun hand. So happy when the flush hit!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282473

Another nice moment.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/282474

This also worked out well. Was very surprised this guy called me down.

Stacked...over and over and over again
  k2o4, Sep 26 2007

I just spent the last hour going through every hand I've played since Sept 1st. I looked specifically for hands where I had gotten all my chips in, or someone else had gotten all in and I called, and then I proceeded to lose. Yes, this is the "NewB Gets Stacked" edition of the blog, and it's pathetically long. The good news is that the majority of these took place in the first 2 weeks of the month, and then it slowed down to where I barely found any in the last 7 days or so. I think it means I've learned from those mistakes, but it doesn't hurt to see them again. Wait, actually, it does. It hurts a lot. The stupidity you will witness below is monumental.

So enjoy seeing me get pummeled left and right. You'll find many bad plays, several bad beats, and a hell of a lot of money lost if you just browse below!

I think this was just utter stupidity by me - can't remember what I was thinking.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281525

This opp was laggy, which I think led me to push. Plus it was a drawy flop.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281529

Tryin to be aggr with flush draw + Gs but get called down. Bad idea @ low limits and ok one higher up?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281531

Is this a 2pair that you can get away from?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281532

Can I fold this, and if yes, then when???
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281534

I really dunno how to play 2pair =
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281544

He was passive too, shoulda known better.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281550

Dunno why the hell I just pushed like that!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281551

Argh, damn 2pair again!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281552

Not sure if I screwed up here or just hit a shitty spot. Should I have slowed down at some point?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281553

Shitty time to have the case ace.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281556

People keep telling me to go to the end with a set no matter what...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281560

Stupid Flushes on paired boards!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281562

Yet another reason why I'm netting a lose with AK!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281564

Dunno where I got the idea that calling this was a good move!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281565

Where do I keep getting this grand idea to push so randomly?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281567

Tryin to be overly Aggr w/ bottom pair, fd and OC kicker... Wonder if it would be a good idea to do this at a higher limit vs a tight opp? QT seems like a hand to lay down.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281568

Yet another sample of over aggro donk.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281570

He was pretty laggy preflop but dunno how smart it is to go for this with AKo...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281572

Previous discussion on this hand says I needed to push earlier!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281573

Wow, this was sad. When the last Q hit and there was no flush, I thought it wasn't likely for him to have 4 of a kind. Oh well, bad idea. Overall really bad play =
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281576

They call it the ignorant end for a reason.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281578

Didn't find AK likely, and didn't even think of K9.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281579

This was just a bad beat. Of course it came after I got stacked 2 times already in the session. Pain.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281580

Overset
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281581

I swear I suck with 2pair!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281583

As I keep going this becomes more and more painful. When do I get away from this... probably vs that raise, cause 1 pair ain't good.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281584

My pushed draws tend to fail me horribly.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281586

Again, draws that get me there lose it big!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281589

He was laggy so it could have been QQ... think this is ok.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281591

Mehhhh AA pain.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281592

Having a hard time thinking up comments, I just want this suffering to end but I keep finding more hands where I'm stackeddddd.... stupid lack of aggression allows AK to suck out on me!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281594

check this turn?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281598

No idea wtf was going on here, probably felt like he was Contb too much.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281599

Didn't respect the scary board!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281602

Tilt fest!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281605

Ouch, outdrawn.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281607

Getting involved with this hand was idiotic!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281608

He was laggy and pushing a lot, thought I could nab him. Oh well, ran into KK.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281609

This sucked.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/281612

Had him on a weaker ace

You Shouldn't Read This
  k2o4, Sep 26 2007

First off let me apologize for spamming the Blogs box... Decided to start doing this blog thing and wanted to put some old posts from another forum up here as well.

Also another disclaimer: There will be many boring posts in this blog. Why? Cause I mainly want to use this as a type of "Poker Journal" where I can keep track of my winning/losing hands for sessions to analyze later, while also allowing friends and the public to give feedback. So most of the posts will just be a listing of hand histories with my thoughts on my mistakes, or asking questions on how to play them better.

Now let's get started for today's post... Where am I? Oh yeah, broke. Well, not literally but my live cash game BR got kilt. Or killed. Either way I had to spend my last night of Costa Rica poker in my hotel room with a shady wireless connection that kept crapping out on me. Despite that challenge I still pulled about 3.5 buyins, which seems to be my regular rate when I have a winning session.

Looking over things I had a lot more significant winning hands than losing hands, which is nice to see. I've started going back through PT after each session and looking for hands with a net of over 10 big blinds as either a loss or win, and examining those hands. I'm going to take the 3 most confusing winning hands and 3 most confusing losing hands of each session and ask for advice on em, and below I'm gonna list all the rest for future reference. Also, people who are really bored or who like me a lot can go through the rest and give feedback. I'm guessing I'll only get help from the former category... it sucks being a newb.

On another note, my fellow sMi poker player Salad has gone and blown his BR... again. Please visit his blog here and make fun of him.

GRAPH TIME!!!

Well I figure it's about time to post some SS's.... but I don't have the damn graph program yet so just a PT SS for now. I started playing NL cash games at the end of August, so this represents the last month of play. I think I could have done better if I wasn't working and traveling so much, but I'm still happy. Planning to move up to NL25 when I hit $750. Why such a huge roll? Cause I play better over-rolled, and I am doing a "rolling bankroll" strat where you move up to your next level with a cushion of 5 buyins so that an early losing streak doesn't mean you have to move right back down. So instead of moving up at 25 Buyins, I move up at 30.

Ok, let's look at some hands now!

How do I play these better? (3 winners/3 losers)

1) Should I just call this and hope for calls behind or am I trying to shut out? Figure since he's all in I probably shoulda just called... if it was only 1 guy behind I'd call for sure, but 2 made me worried.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280955

2) Should I bet out this flop? Was the CR too big? Didn't want to give a cheap draw to a flush... Should I just call here or make a smaller raise?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280973

3) Villain is very laggy - should I ReRaise the turn or was the call fine since I had position and he might bet into me on the river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280974

4) Bad flop call? I always end up paying shortstacks off like this =
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280980

5) Was tryin to take this away from him with the GS and 1 possible OC. Seems to have failed. Better to call or fold?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280981

6) Too aggr w/ Gs + 2 OC's?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280984

Other Biggest Winners of the Session:

1) How could I get more value out of this?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280958

2) Lucky Turn
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280953

3) Here I got worried on the turn... if he'd had more money I might not have called. Hmmm... is that a bad approach?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280957

4) Turn bet too big?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280960

5) Bet bigger river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280961

6) Bigger river bet?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280962

7) Was scared of 98 here.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280963

8) This was great - I knew him to be very Aggr and figured he'd just try and bully me the entire time.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280964

9) Not sure what he was calling with and then folding the river.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280965

10) Good flop raise?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280966

11) Dunno why the hell I ch'd the river.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280970

12) I saw this guy raising a lot to steal my blind, so I started playing back at him and getting him to lay down. I had a feeling he was getting frustrated and would get aggr w/ very little and with so many outs figured I was good. Went well =)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280975

13) Big Bluff of the night
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280976

Other Biggest Losers of the Session:

1) Bad PFR w/ A9s?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280979

2) Call this river?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280982

3) This guy put a move on me, which is so rare here at NL10 that I just auto fold most of the time and need a read on someone before considering to keep going.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280985

4) Same situation but he didn't show his hand this time.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280986

5) This guy folded to nearly every single ContB, so I figured he had at least a 7, and probably an overpair when he called. Then his turn check got me thinking maybe it was a 7 or a Flush Draw... but he was very tight PF, so probably shouldn't have made that guess. Meh.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/280987

That's all for today... but stay tuned cause my next post will be a fun one about me getting stacked - over, and over, and over again.

A Live Hand Gone Bad
  k2o4, Sep 24 2007

Played about 3 hours of live yesterday. Had $110 to play with on a $1/$2 table. Seemed like a pretty regular crowd with 3 good players and a few laggy ones. I sat into a semi run of cards with KQ, 99, 22, QQ... hit a set with the 22's and doubled but lost money on the KQ and 99. Then hit the QQ and got raised PF by a passive guy and folded em after getting about 40 in the pot - he ended up having KK and hit a set on the flop. Then my cards got very very cold for about an hour and a half.... folded so much that everyone kept saying "Jesus play a hand" so I knew my image was tight. Finally hit AJo, played it strong and took it with a contb on the flop. Then floped top pair out of the blinds and took that. So I was starting to get more involved. But 3 hours had gone by and I wanted to go home and take my tiny profit of about 45 dollars with me, so I decided to leave on my next BB. Then this hand.

I picked up KQs UTG, and with my image starting to loosen up I thought it might be worth a try. Here's how it went down:

NewB ($155 in chips) - Bet $10
Villain 1 (to my left, ~$180 in chips) - Call $10
Villain 2 (2nd to my left, ~170 in chips) - Call $10
Villain 3 (Big Blind, ~$400 in chips) - Call $10

Flop (Pot - $41):
Jh 5d Qc

Villain 3 - Check
NewB - Bet $25
Villain 1 - Fold
Villain 2 - Hesitates for a bit then calls $25 (I start thinking a straight draw for him)
Villain 3 - Calls $25

Turn (Pot - $116):
Jh 5d Qc 2c

Villain 3 - Check
NewB - Bet $50
Villain 2 - Quickly calls $50
Villain 3 - Fold

River (Pot $216):
Jh 5d Qc 2c Ac

NewB - Check
Villain 2 - Slight pause, then gently bets $75 (he's almost all in now, like $20 left). His betting hand looks like it is shaking, just barely. After completing the bet he leaned back in his chair a bit, put both hands in his lap, and stared at the rail. I told him that he put me to a tough decision and he said "there's a lot of money in there" and when the dealer asked me for a decision the villain said "give him time, he's thinking".
NewB - Calls

Showdown:
Villain 1 - KcJc for nut flush
NewB - KsQs for a pair of queens

NewB = broke T_T

All my instincts told me to fold, and looking back at the hand his body language told me what he was holding the entire time, but I just didn't interpret it correctly. The shaking hand thing was huge but I wasn't sure whether his hand was shaking or if I was just seeing things, cause it was very very slight. The shaky hand thing is a tell from "Caro's Book of Tells" for when someone has a monster hand, so when I saw that I started thinking "shit he hit a straight." But then when he got so passive in his body language I started remembering how that's what bluffers do... but that's what bluffers do AFTER they make an aggressive bet, and he bet gently with his shaky hand... didn't put it all together properly at the table, just saw it clearly afterwards. Plus the things he was saying all fit with someone seeking a call (reminding me of the great pot odds, asking the dealer to give me more time). So there was lots of reason to fold despite the fact that it would leave me walking out of there w/ about $60 and a $50 loss for the night.

I ended up calling cause the pot odds were somewhere between 4-1 or 5-1, and I really wanted to see if my instincts were right (that stupid thing we do where we want to see if our reading skills are accurate). Seeing as this wasn't money from my real BR but the money I'd won when my stepdad staked me, I wasn't so worried about losing it. So I made a kind of stupid call, IMO.

Well, that ends my live poker run here in rica. Learned a lot more about live games though, which was good. I have much more difficulty paying attention in live games, but it is more fun with the social atmosphere.

My Mistakes:

1) First mistake I made was on the turn. I completely underbet the turn. I was torn on what to do. In my mind I was very worried about 2pair with someone holding JQ suited. I also did not see the new flush draw at all (I suck at knowing the pot size and reading the board cards for potential hands when playing live, just not used to doing it yet and focus on other things, while online it comes naturally). In my mind I thought "I need to make a defining bet here that makes a straight draw pay and also let's me know if I'm up against something real". Then I got a bit scared cause of my short stack and no BR to rebuy, plus I wasn't sure of the pot size, and I ended up betting $50. I really should have bet $75 to $90, but then again if I was going that big I should just push because it would leave me with barely any chips for the river. I was scared to bet too big and just easily pay off 2pair or a set though = What do you guys think? Is that a push situation?

2) After fucking up on the turn, I should have folded the river. All the signs pointed to him making a hand that beat me, and with the A completing a straight draw, creating a possible larger pair or turning AJ or A5 into 2 pair, and also completing the flush, I think I should have folded. The board was bad, his betting pattern made the board likely to help him, and all of his body language said he had a big hand.

Other than that I played w/out error all night. Tends to be pretty easy when you're folding 90% of your cards =)

More Hookers Than Rounders
  k2o4, Sep 24 2007

So I went out to play some live poker in downtown San Jose and could only find hookers, no poker players. I guess I was out too early, about 6pm. Only found one casino with a table and people sitting at it, but it was 2/5 with a $200 minimum buyin. Couldn't afford that and the place everyone kept telling me to go was a cab ride away which I didn't want to bother with, so I got online to play.

1) This first hand bugs me - I was pretty sure I was beat on the turn, but called it down anyway. Should I have dumped this? I hate this betting pattern where people raise PF, check/call the flop, then make a small bet on the turn.

Hand @ LP.net

2) This hand I realized I was vs an overpair by the turn. Was it stupid to stay so aggr?

Hand @ LP.net

3) Felt like I played this right, just got screwed.

Hand @ LP.net

4) This hand the opp was very tight/passive so I think his bet on the flop indicated a set or 2pair. I probably could have gotten more aggr earlier knowing that. by the end the pot was so big and he had so little that I had to showdown with him all in for sure, so I figured I might as well bet. Thought he probably had a boat =

Hand @ LP.net

5) Here I tried to take the flop with a contB, and when he called I put him on a low - medium pair. Hitting the jack I was almost sure I was the nutz. Think I just got unlucky here.

Hand @ LP.net

6) Thinks this was a bad double barrel... bad board for it?

Hand @ LP.net

Otherwise I came out really well tonight. Won 3.1 buyins too. Appreciate any input you guys wanna give on my losing hands here.
