if you really like a show or think one has a lot of potential you have to support it. so many sick shows have been canceled because they didnt get good enough ratings. jericho & firefly to name a few. especially shows like this one. there is a reason its never been done before. stuff in the post apocalyptic world usually always gets bad ratings.

AMC which is a big reason its so hyped. AMC has breaking bad, rubicon. etc... amc is the best choice besides hbo obv.

But I don't see you bitching about torrents for poker shows like PAD/HSP being posted in those threads especially since those are the one shows that everybody on this site watches. Be consistent or STFU.

meh not really. zombie movies have always done pretty poorly in the box office. there is a reason this is the first show of its kind imo.

Had been looking forward to this since seeing the trailer. Watched the pre-air about a week ago and was not disappointed. Hopefully it gains popularity in the US so it can run it's course.

where do u live? AMC is channel 55 for Rogers in Toronto and has a ton of good shows but lacks an HD channel

true but they have never been part of a super production, also they rarely flop really bad, theres always a faithful fan base (me included)

I liked it. I thought it moved kind of slow though. However, I guess the pace of the show makes sense, it's a television series, not footage that's crammed in to a 1 hour 30 minute reel. I'm definitely going to keep watching it and giving a chance.

I'm just going by the first episode being pretty much exactly like the comic, and based from that, the blackdude doesnt show up again until like, one other time way down the line I think.

although it should probably be mentioned that, at least I find in comparison to something like Dexter, The Walking Dead moves quite a fair bit slower in pace as far as story development goes

Holy shit this show is going downhill fast.

The pre-credits scene was incredibly ham-handed with some of the most on-the-nose dialogue I've ever heard. Maybe the writers realized they hadn't established the sisters' relationship well enough for the younger one's death to have the impact that her overblown and melodramatic death scene was supposed to elicit and that stealing jewelery and frantically searching for gift wrap wasn't enough to provide the viewer an investment in their relationship. The first scene wasn't enough either.

The way the camp overeacted to the guy digging graves was puzzling to say the least. If they wanted to question him fine, but tackling him, cuffing him, and tying him to a tree was overkill and it was never even paid off. What exactly was the point of that? For his line at the end of the episode? Is he going to be psychic now? That whole plot thread was just confusing to me.

The "Vatos" plot thread was obviously padding for what should have been a 10 minute (actual show time) search for Merle and the bag retrieval. It seems whatever whatever new content added to the show that wasn't in the comic is crap and this was no exception. I kind of liked this episode until Glenn was kidnapped.

We are forced into thinking the "Vatos" are thugs. They were scoping out the bag of guns and didn't react to their buddy's calls for help until they saw Glenn grab the bag. They then kidnap Glenn giving the people with a big bag of guns a reason to come after them, which is what they want because they have claimed the guns for themselves. Regardless of the fact redneck #2 struck the first blow, he should have killed the boy for making noise in such close proximity to so many zombies, but the "Vatos" jumped an unarmed Glenn before kidnapping him and holding him for ransom. They were more willing to die than to let Rick and co. walk away with their friend in exchange for one of their own.

So when we find out that they aren't the ruthless thugs they have been acting like, but caregivers and protectors, it's not the suprisingly original twist the creators were going for. It's a head scratching plot contrivance that comes from nowhere that calls into question all their previous actions. And the old lady wandering into the middle of the standoff was one of the more preposterous things I've ever seen and ruind any tension that had been built, which it was suposed to, but it just wasn't funny.

The zombie attack at the end was nice, but not enough people were killed. There were people earlier in the episode hanging out in the background that hve never had a spoken word, or so few as not to matter, but they're still around or they just didn't show their deaths. I can only assume Merle led the "geeks" back to camp, but why leave that a mystery until next episode?

The only good thing that came from this episode is now we know the saw blade was too dull to cut through metal, even though the poor condition of the thing should have been a clue.

Also, everyone needs to fall into Rick's debt. He'll do anything to repay a debt.

With this episode I think I can make an informed decision and say The Walking Dead kind of sucks. I am still going to watch the last two episodes, so no need to ask me if I am or to tell me not to. But if this were a regular 22 episode season, or even the standard 10-12 episode cable season, then I probably wouldn't finish it out.

tl;dr:

-First scene too on-the-nose and ineffective
-Why can't the man dig without being tied to a tree and is he psychic

if u check it again, before the camp overeacted, dale went there by himself to ask what he was doing and to offer some water, jim didnt even look at him while he was agressively hitting the ground with the shovel... u gotta take in considerantion the sutiation they r in, its the end of the world out there and this group is all they got, just because we didnt see their lifes before the camp it doesnt mean they dont have history, they must know it doesnt take much for someone to crack and do some crazy shit(like the hillbillie before he got handcuffed). they got worried and wanted him to explain why he was digging graves, he avoided any explanation and even refused help with the digging... and in the end they were right, he had a meltdown and started crying about his family

i didnt like the begginning of this plot either, but its not that bad... the old lady showing up there wasnt suposed to be funny either...

as their leader said, they have encountered a lot of bad ppl, even tho they were just protecting themselves they had to act tough and be agressive before asking questions, and u can see they r scared in most scenes

when the lady showed up, they all drop this atitude, it also shows that thats not how they act near her and the others...

5 ppl died in less then 5min(checked again, 5 got killed on screen, more prob died off screen)... they have 13-14 left, so 1/4 of the camp got killed... 3 of those were the 'random in the background', all the chars left now have some bigger connection in the camp

and thats how tv shows work(unless its a 'case of the week' show), mysteries at the end of episodes... cliffhangers

even if it was a brand new blade, it would make no diference... the handcuffs r made of a stronger material, that saw is prob around for wood cutting or some rly soft metal cutting

i think its very good so far. Lighten up people. And fwiw i dont mind that they didn't develop a lot of the characters faster. I'm glad they didn't they are just going to kill them off anyway, that doens't make sense adding 15 minutes to the show that was about those characters. Fuck I dont want to see drama, that will just become irrelevant as the show goes on. Keep the show moving alone folks, jeez

I am probably just nitpicking now but the over dramatization in every scene is becoming tiresome, and quite frankly, misplaced.

-Did anyone LOL when the most epic music / score ever started playing when they just started driving? Seriously, it was like Batman saving the world type music. I just couldn't wrap my head around who decided to put that in there.

-I'm also dumbfounded at how the writers continue to insult our intelligence by having a scientist who makes a stupid ass rookie mistake by touching that acid that fell into that Petra dish. He was trying to rub off corrosive liquid like there was a smudge on that flesh. LOL.

-And why is a "full decontamination" a cheap 3-second firecracker explosion? All it did was destroy good beakers and microscopes. The camera pans in the lab room and everything was still pretty much intact. I guess this decontamination only targets material that is hazardous only by touch, not airborne.

- I olleyes: at the bright light when the shutters opened at the end. Really? A fkn bright light? Make it more dramatic, please.

I'm sure everyone that has watched the pilot knows there is a TREMENDOUS difference in quality amongst the rest of the series. It's because we had a genius direct and write the first episode and let a bunch of idiot monkeys do the rest of the series. How it goes from hero to zero in a matter of episodes takes true talent.

The Walking Dead Producer Denies Reports of Recent Staff Firings

The Producer of the show clears up the details surrounding the recent shake up of the writing staff.
In an "exclusive" report earlier this week, Deadline reported that Executive Producer of The Walking Dead Frank Darabont had fired the writing staff on the freshman hit series which had a lot of fans worrying about the future of the show. But new information has surfaced regarding the future of the writers and the show that sheds more light on the situation.



In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Producer Gale Hurd denies reports of the recent firings saying "It’s completely inaccurate”. “[In] the writers’ room, there are people that have set up other projects that will be their first priority if their own series is picked up as a pilot or if it’s a series.

Which makes sense seeing as the first season was only 6 episodes and there was no guarantee of a second season being ordered by AMC. But will Greg Nicotero, the make up effects creator on the first season return?

We certainly hope he’ll be back,” said Hurd. “As with everything, it’s subject to availability. But he’s a very important member of the team as are his colleagues at [Nicotero's effects house] KNB. KNB will still be [doing] our makeup effects.”

In the interview, Hurd also confirms the return the of the cast and offers more information about the second season of the show.

The Walking Dead will probably return in October. “I think Frank and Robert [Kirkman, writer of the Walking Dead comic and an executive producer on the show] will sit down early next year, to begin mapping it out.” She also confirmed that “every one of the principal cast is signed up for multiple seasons.”

It has turned really fast from "very promising" into "shitty" within a couple of eps. Jeez, it will discredit the genre for a couple of years if this is not a success.

They really need to make more shit happen in less time. I mean fuck. 45 minutes of crap dialogue with a few headshotted zombies thrown in doesn't cut it. Writers need to get their shit together and re-vamp the whole show. Episode 1 was good, then it was like watching a clothes dryer in slow motion for 5 episodes.

yea even though this show was shitty it got great ratings. i also expect hbo ( hopefully ) or showtime or someone to eventually also try a zombie show. hopefully they make it decent.

Am I the only one who really liked almost every episode? Yeah some of it was corny garbage, but overall I was pretty entertained and thought it was awesome. True, it could have been tons better, but I don't think that means what we've seen so far is total bullshit.

I read the first 20 comics after watching the 6 eps. They are literally nothing alike.
Like seriously the only similarities are a few of the main characters (and just by name, only like the main char is the same), the fact it started out in Atlanta and he met that black dude and his son.

pretty dissapointing first ep, so much lack of intelligent plot. Also when the ep was done it felt like they pretty much spoiled the hole season in the peview for the next ep.. (i was tired and continued watching it by misstake).

To sum it up it feels like that every dangerous situation that appears is because they always fuck up, unnecessary fuck ups. And also the bitches whine 100% of the time

I play freecell or minesweeper when I watch t.v. shows. It makes long dialogues between 2 people you don't care about much more tolerable. It has to be a game that you've played so much that it requires very little brain power so that you don't miss anything in the show.

btw, I agree with Baal, it wasn't bad. I remember the beginning of season 2 and 3 of Breaking Bad when people were complaining that it was boring and the action was too slow.

This was terrible. I can imagine so many cool things you can do with a show like this where there's so much money. The zombies look really cool, the idea is not original but still nice and the main character is likeable. But they totally fuck it up with long bitching and idiot reasoning. It was a nice ending to episode one but it still sucked overall.

People jumped on the zombie bandwagon during the first season. While season one had some minor spots in it that made it entertaining, most of the season was filled with what ifs and what could have been.

The Walking Dead can be a sick show, they just need to step their game up in the second season because they have a lot of fans expecting to actually see some action this season, not another drama filled season one. Second season episode one had some decent parts, but it wasn't anything special. I'll give them a pass for this week since it was the season opener, but if its the season opener, shouldn't it have been an amazing episode to get everyone's attention? hrm...

just watched it best episode of the series from what I remember. You want more action? They killed like 8 zombies without a single bullet ran away from hundreds more. Was intelligent action not shot the zombies with unlimited machine gun ammo style.

Apparently, they fired the creator from season one and put in a new one in season 2. Also they cut the shows budget like crazy the second season, that's why you see so few zombies and special affects.
