that swedish dude who writes the songs for britney and everyone is a pretty damn good songwriter.
that's probably not why she sells singles - that's all based on children's susceptibility to marketing (and the charts basically only represent a list of favourite modern nursery rhymes and there's nothing wrong with that).
i can do a pretty mean baby one more time with my friend, abbaesque i'd say.
Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

i mean there are people in africa who love music even though all they're doing is banging on rocks with sticks or whatever lol. it doesnt have to be deep and complex for someone to be able to love it.

loco has a serious passion for music so when i say shit like that he finds it almost disrespectful in a way if that makes sense.
this is quite true. the analogy is very good.

so people who listen to britney spears cant love music by default?
how can they know if they don't try? they aren't trying if they are listening to britney spears and other music fed by the medias. music is art, not a pathetic business.

yes and that is art to me. they live and love their music, doesn't matter if it isn't complex, who's talking about complex? at least it's real.
you see me as a music snob, i see myself as a music fan.
loving music in my opinion doesn't have anything to do with complexity or musical tastes, as long as you like whatever it is you like and can listen to it CONSCIOUSLY. music should be true and intriguing, a certain effort should be made, it's not just something you can listen to in the background, unless it is made exactly for that.
To listen is an effort, and just to hear is no merit. A duck hears also.
- Igor Stravinsky
"Art, and, above all, music, has a fundamental function, which is to catalyze the sublimation that it can bring about through all means of expression.
It must aim through fixations which are landmarks, to draw [one] towards a total exaltation in which the individual mingles, losing his consciousness in a truth immediate, rare, enormous, and perfect. If a work of art succeeds in this undertaking even for a single moment, it attains its goal."

i'm by no means a good guitarist, but the way i sustained interest was searching for tabs on various sites (ultimate tab etc) of songs i know, and got real satisfaction out of learning to play them

you're coming off as a huge music elitist in this thread loco. since my musical capability is very low with you, I have a bad taste in music? I can't like or enjoy music as much as you because we disagreed in taste?
we do share sigur ros, pink floyd, mastodon, and tool which are a few of my favorite bands though.
google (the name of a song you know and like) + chords + lyrics
preferably a song with only three or four chords (most songs are like this, actually)
print a copy
get a cheap chord book and learn how to make the chords
slowly go thru the song, changing from chord to chord, beginning to end, and keep at it until your fingers are too sore to continue until tomorrow
gradually your fingers will start to hurt less, you'll make the chords more easily, and you'll be better at keeping the rhythm of the song going
WHEN YOU CAN GO THRU THE SONG IN EVEN TEMPO, the way you know it should be played, THEN play the song for someone who likes you - please do not trouble their ears until you can play the song correctly - no one likes to hear a first year violinist either
NOW GO LEARN ANOTHER SONG, preferably with some new chords
PRACTICE A LOT, EXPECT SORE FINGERTIPS, STOP WHINING, JUST DO IT !!
if you can't learn at least one new song a month, sell the damn guitar !!

..what? im sorry but can you actually read my posts and think before posting?
can you leave out your tastes in music and mine and pinpoint to me exactly where I am being an elitist and where I said everyone who doesn't share my tastes in music have bad taste?
the only reason i posted my last.fm is because crownroyal claimed we listened to the same music when he doesnt listen to 99%+ of it
i can answer that last question though... i do assume i enjoy my music more than people by default. if that makes me sound like an elitist or a snob, so be it, i know it isn't true though.
as you can see on my last fm, i have a library of over 700 artists since the 1st of june, that is a lot of artists to have listened to in a spawn of 3 months only. so i basically check out new artists/genres all the time and make efforts to get into newer things constantly. you have almost the same number of artists in the spawn of 2 years! that alone should give you a small idea of how i love music. I also donated 6300$ to my favorite band so they could get back together and produce some new material, i don't think many people who simply enjoy music would do that would they? so yeah with those things in mind i think you can agree with me that i like music more than most people. that isn't elitism or bragging or me thinking im better than you, it's just a simple personality trait and there is absolutely no way you should take offense in that.

it's great that you enjoy music and like to check out new bands, its also awesome that you gave that money to that band. but saying that Crown doesn't love music because you love it more is really stupid
Baal - look is talking hah.

if i said, "no you suck at poker lets play heads up so i can show you what a good player is!" then this would be a good analogy

the main reason he doesn't love music as much as he wanted to pretend is because he played guitar for 5 hours during 2 years, remember?
that is all, let it go Yugless, even he admitted it. he enjoys/appreciate his music, he isn't a fan of music. that is my point.

and fwiw I listen to alot of genres of music, and can play some guitar, some piano, some drums and I can sing.
The only genre "I cant listen to" is death metal.
untrue. i could find at least 10 different genres you could not listen to.
Here, just for you, this isn't death metal. tell me how long you lasted, this is just one song.
Since I said that I disliked deathmetal, you can automatically find 10 genres I couldnt stand listening to?
I watched about 50 seconds before switching off (actually before fast forwarding to like 2 mins and then switching off).
And Loco, I am sure that I share the exact passion you have for music, without a doubt.
you didn't say you disliked death metal, you said it was the only genre you could not tolerate. that doesn't make sense to me. it's not like you have heard all that there is out there and can make such a statement.
yet i show you a video clip of a band that has absolutely no death metal (and in fact no metal at all in it) and you cannot last 1 minute before losing interest.
you really think we share the same passion for music? I give a try to anything and everything, you shut them off instantly.
we are very very different
edit: but yes, I do think that if you cannot tolerate death metal, there is a lot more you can't tolerate. death metal isn't the most extreme music out there.
