Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.

I'll respond to reasonable things like this only.

I think the 2nd article seems very credible and likely true. My knowledge of his wealth comes from reading some of his books. Trump is a very good bullshitter and maybe I ate a little too much of it up. He painted the picture of his Dad's business as a small venture building a few small apartment homes and made comments like 'My dad warned me not to try to take on the big boys in New York, that they were out of their league' (obviously I'm paraphrasing).

This doesn't really change my perspective on anything though. Even if he did inherit 300 million and turned it into 9 or 10 billion that seems a pretty incredible feat. I wouldn't agree w/ the writer in the 2nd article that it was "almost inevitable" Trump would reach the Forbes 400 list.

The whole thing is, he's very intelligent with the way he manipulates the public perception. He shies away from speaking too in depth on topics that will cause the public to be divisive on him. He will agree to two contradictory things at different times in order to shape their perception of him at the moment as positive (given he assumes they will be too stupid to recognize these things contradicted one another). When he gets cornered, he shrugs it off that he is playing the game and everyone still goes along with it (except for the people who have a stick up their ass)--news for you people... every person who has ever lived has believed in two contradictory points. It's unavoidable. But this is the reason he'll be a much better president than the other rep representatives, he knows how to play the game and he is a winner.

I can't spend anymore time on these forums because of this kind of ridiculous discourse. You are seriously calling someone who has built an empire by himself and has become one of the richest men in the world a buffoon and purely an idiot?

...Who are you? What have you done? LOL!

You would do us all a favor if you can please just go...

he's good at manipulating idiots because he sounds like an idiot and thus idiots find him relatable. he shies away from speaking too in depth on topics because he lacks the required knowledge to speak in depth in them without being wrong. He's a superficial man with a superficial mind and superficial knowledge.

I really think you'll have a hard time finding a scholar in any field that agrees with trump on any policy suggestion semi-unique to trump unless they are on his payroll.

Bernie Sanders would be a dream come true, for Americans and the rest of the world.

Sadly "smarter than the average Joe in the U.S." doesn't mean much.

I feel like there's two trains of thought.

1. Do what's "morally right" for the world and mankind.

2. Do what's best for your country.

We have been operating under the first train of thought for far too long. Trump isn't wrong in any of his ideas here, but simply shifting from the first way of thinking to the second. I'm not advocating this, it's more food for thought; if you had the strongest military in the world by a long shot, why wouldn't you just conquer the world and make everything yours? Why not? Because it's not "morally right". In the medieval days, that's what armies did. Why do we even need an army in this day and age? He's just pushing peoples' morals and they don't like it. As a leader you gotta make tough decisions, and if you view other countries as your competitors, these decisions are what will put you ahead of them.

If you view the world as one big neighborhood, then his ideas might seem too strong. Personally I believe that the whole world should be one nation. The Earth is pretty small, and every country is economically linked enough that we shouldn't have so many separate governments. Armies should be eliminated completely and our focus should shift into making mankind better. But before the world can accept everyone to be under the same nation, I won't disagree with Trump's leadership ideals.

Name what he said in the interview and why. They aren't wrong at all. You guys are starcraft players. It's def the right strat!

No. Provide rebuttal to Sander's positions supported by facts or there is nothing further to discuss.

Anyone spouting EV this, EV that in terms of ethics, fairness, justice:

There is a free Harvard course on "Justice: What is the Right Thing To Do?" taught by Michael Sandel that addresses a lot of these things. The world would be a better place if everyone took this course.

An idea that just occurred to me. It could actually be awesome if a bunch of people on LP took the course together and we could start threads on here to discuss.

Google's definition of buffoon:

noun

a ridiculous but amusing person; a clown.

A picture of Trump next to that would only help to clarify the definition

I don't know how this is going to come off. It might offend some people I guess.

Ive been feeling a fair amount of GG world for some time myself but for different reasons...that the #1 problem with America has something to do with women and I feel very little hope for this to change any time soon. I guess Im bringing this up in this thread because someone is talking about GG world while talking about the elections while for myself the thought of the first American female president is some metaphor that I think is troublesome.

Are you insane? Trump was born in immense wealth with real state with is like the least skillful way to make money, when he got into casinos he managed to bust his familys fortune.

Ofcourse he is a savvy business man, he has been doing it all his life, but he is clearly an idiot on so so many ways
