The whole "everyone has its flaws so don't be quick to judge" thing is all fine and dandy, Benjamin, but no one is trying to reduce wobbly's person to one of his less attractive traits. It's just being pointed out. You don't need to be close to someone to express an opinion of a particular character trait, such as saying that they are a show-off and arrogant. You just need to have observed it having been demonstrated often. If I were to read a few years' worth of someone's personal journal without ever meeting him, I could quite easily understand a thing or two about his personality; no need for a close bond. It isn't a stretch to say that his posts and his blog give enough insight into his personality for this to be possible.
The very fact that so many people have given him the same criticism should be an indicator that there is truth to it. He can either choose to slowly come to terms with it, or deceive himself more like he just did a few posts ago by thinking that all the people offering the criticism are just secretly envious of him, which is just more evidence of his need to convince himself that he is superior to others. "Ah! He can only criticize me because he can't measure up. He only wishes he were me, but can't admit it." This is self-delusional behavior. He turns criticism into praise-denial by thinking that the 'hater' would praise him if he was honest with himself, and could admit to himself how truly great he is. |

Yes I prefer fans over haters~ Go ahead and call it an inferiority complex. But the reality is, I just like to be appreciated and looked up to for my hard work and for my passion for what i do everyday. |
"Few people have the wisdom to prefer the criticism that would do them good, to the praise that deceives them."
- François de La Rochefoucauld
|
I love to learn and i take constructive critisism well. But you have no creditations how the fuck can i trust a word you say? Especially since you dont know shit about my life to analyse this deeply,
And how is their paise deceiving me? Dont use quotes at all if you cant use them in correct context. |
I didn't analyze deeply at all. This is surface analysis stuff. I didn't go into what things in your childhood may have created the complex or anything like that. Nobody likes to be criticized about their personality, especially not the bigger flaws. I'm not asking for your trust, and I think your position is perfectly understandable; internet psychoanalysis is dubious. But you should learn to evaluate criticism properly, rather than just group it all under the 'hater' label which only serves to feed your ego, rather than opening the possibility to learn in order to become a better human being.
No context necessary for the quote, I used it properly since La Rochefoucauld saw all acts of praising as acts of flattery. I think the wiser a person is, the more indifferent to praise he is going to be.
"So long as men praise you, you can only be sure that you are not yet on your own true path but on someone else's."

It makes me sad this is the most responses I will probably ever get to a thread I post on LP. Considering I told everyone to appreciate everyone especially wobbly and it turns into a giant hate fest on everyone. Don't worry Wobbly I opened up three different threads today. Vital Myth is getting ripped apart in one, Raszi is getting ripped apart in another one, and Baal is getting ripped apart in another one. Fuck LP can't we all just support one another. |

lemon i think loco's comment was referring to the way you phrased that guy's "healthy lifestyle" (saying that he cares about people and his family because they increase his long-term results in poker, rather than caring about those things because he's a halfway decent human being).
i don't want to put words in his mouth but at least that was my reaction when i read it.
|
Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I'm amazed that Lemon looks up to that guy, what a joke. That's not 'care' for people, that's using people; it's avoiding to say the truth that they only have utilitarian value: "Please distract me for a while so that I get some nice dopamine levels to make sure I don't burn out at poker which is indefinitely more important to me than you guys are." |
What's wrong with helping other people and making them happy because it makes me feel fulfilled? :O
Maybe I see the world from the view of an economist too much, but everything you do you do because it gives you utility, being it money, satisfaction, sense of fulfillment or higher serotonin uptake, whether you realize it or not.
I guess we can agree do disagree though, there are different views on life and no one of them is the true correct one (although confirmation bias will make you think otherwise) |

I'm sure some of that is somewhat true. I just hold the opinion that people's behavior on the internet is often markedly different than their behavior in real life. In addition to this most of the people bashing him are just joining the crowd like sheep. I doubt very many of them have gone to any effort to actually look at his posting history or examine his behavior. As Mark Twain once said, "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect". A lot of people believe in Scientology, doesn't really lend and legitimacy to their opinions IMO. |

usually , people on the internet will do what they dont do in real life, so yea they act different, but in a way they act the same, just that in real life you would not go on bashing and acting like a psy to someone you barley know. Just like i doubt wobbly goes around telling strangers or people he barley knows that he's better then them and thats why he makes more money.
Everyone's acting arrogant, including daut and loco. But that's because the premise is arrogance, and everyone has some insecurities (except rekrul obv) and feel attacked. Wethere it's wobblys "im better then you" or Loco's "i know better then you".
IMO some interesting stuff, and hopefully no one's taking this too seriously.

It's not about agreeing to disagree... it's really about disapproval. I completely disapprove of your worldview and the way you treat others. "I'll do this because it gives me this". It reduces interpersonal relationships to shit. This world is really fucked in so many ways and the only place to start in fixing it is caring for others. And certainly when you reduce your motives in life to the state of your neurotransmitters and what will give you most satisfaction, you don't do that and you are not a model to follow from my perspective. I'm certainly not one of the people you could make happy. You might as well shoot heroin if the main purpose of life is to feel good. A good person often sacrifices for others, they don't always think in terms of what other people can give them. Yeah, I'm not going to deny that we are often unconsciously driven by self-interest, but when you consciously build your life around the premise that everything should be "+EV" or whatever the hell poker analogy you want to apply to your life, you really suck. My 2 cents. |

I see what you mean, in many cases it is probably quite true that we criticize others' flaws to camouflage our own. But I'd say in this case it has more to do with "I'm in a better place to see it as it really is", because I am strictly an observer and not emotionally involved. I have no personal problem with wobbly, even though his personality does not appeal to me.
And in my case it's certainly true that I don't behave the same irl, but that's because I prioritize conflict avoidance. There's nothing I dislike more than being around people that are agitated. |
