PS FPP Haylp! by LikeASet, November 06

Ok your a platnum star dude with 61K points. (For this example you make about 4-5K VPP, or 10-12.5K FPPs a week)

What would you do?

-save for next promo (for the possible instant cash bonuses)
(Best value for FPP's but promo occasions are unpredictable)
-save for a good electronics purchase (what would you get?)
-buy the highest non instant cash bonus (50K for 650$)
-???

btw the last promo, Pokerstars was selling 1000$ for 62K FPPs in September.
Does anyone remember from last year if PokerStars had a December promo?

Back to poker grind by Highcard, November 06

So I never play much poker each month, so I decided to buy a new computer and use it strictly for poker. I hope it makes me play more since it is specifically a poker station and not some place where I will fool around on msn, internet. GL Me.

The comp is overkill too, one of those i7s 860 with 8gig ram, yada yada anyways I hope crush.

what nots and Wall of texts by iop, November 06

Hey,

So Im drinking my morning coffee at work, and just about to drink my grean tea. This is basically my morning routine when I get to work, is that I have one cup of coffee with milk, and some grean tea.

Anyways pokerwise, Im going to start playing some more heads up, since I got steel city to coach me, so that should be interesting. I got a bunch of leaks to fix, and at times I think i'm overthinking hands, but hey practise makes perfect.

Workwise is going fairly well, im at an IT company doing marketing and starting to get more and more into sales again, which is cool. I used to manage a sales team so I kind of miss it. Moneywise its fairly good too, I would say roughly 60k a year. I however dont really notice that im making more money than before since, a.) my apartment is shitty expensive and b.) i fly back "home" every weekend (which is not free as one would think).

My girlfriends birthday was 2 weeks ago and I bought a trip to paris for us, and booked an apartment down there for a long weekend. We're flying out on the 4th of dec at 1800is iirc, and flying back on monday night on the 7th at 2200ish. One of my best friends is in paris this semester so its going to be awesome seeing him. (Btw thank you balzamon)

I have also booked my x-mas flight to my dads place in munich, germany and will basically have 3 weeks holiday. Im going to grind a TON during the holidays, and make alot of money (hopefully). My old job is hosting their regular yearly donkament, which is a 80 dollar freezeout. I played the first one 2 years ago, and managed to obviously bubble (4/30 - top 3 get paid) against my boss. My old boss is a very very smart business man, I dont even want to think how rich he is, because its probably insane. Not only is he smart, but he is a decent poker player and treats himself in playing the main event every year = his results speak for them self: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=46628

So my goals for november:

[ ] Playing 10k hands of HU
[ ] 20 pushups and 20 situps to start off with (every day)
[ ] FT one donkament

So a friend sent me this song on facebook, so I looked up the youtube vid and it seemed decent:

But I didnt really listen to the music whilst watching the video, so listening to it on spotify since its probably better.

On a more sad note, a good friend of mine committed suicide about 4 weeks ago, ive been wanting to vent and write a blogpost but i never really knew what to write.. This is the 3rd person to have committed suicide but this friend was the closest. We had not always been close since I didnt approve of the people he hung out with since they were bad influence, he had a drug problem, and what i found out later was that he had a gambling problem too. I had tried to help him before on taking a different route, and path in life, trying to get everything sorted, but he never wanted to listen.
Things got messed up after the tsunami in thailand. His mother who he loved and admired died in the tsunami, his little brother whoms hand he held when the wave came died too, he went out on a guilt trip since he wasnt strong enough to hold his brothers hand, and his grandfather passed away too down there. His father, his sister and he survived, but he never really got over it. Im thinking alot about his father and sister, they are and will be very strong people after this, I would not know what to do if I lost the majorty of my family.. Anyways his funereal is in gothenburg next friday, so its going to be nice saying good bye one last time.

Anyways may you all run good, and let me run good too. Thanks for listening.

Chris

hey guys, i'm formerly jasper5408 on this website. just didn't want to get in trouble for multi accounting or "pretending" to be someone knew.

long story short:
1) lp got hacked
2) i panicked
3) i changed my password
4) my password didn't work
5) i made a new account.
6) pass still fails
7) cleared cache/cookies/everything
8) reinstalled firefox
9) pass fails
10) backed up and reformatted drive
11) pass success...

yes...i really reformatted my comp for this site.

anyway i might have come off as a bit of an ass so i kind of like the new account, and hopefully it'll be a new start.

Birthday Ideas? by JohnnyBologna, November 05

Well Im one year older now whoopdie doo 22. I kinda found birthdays pointless now because anything I want I can just buy myself thanks to poker. I guess Ive outgrown the Happy Birthday song with the cake/candles etc. Which leaves the last and only good part, an excuse to just hang out. So far I got dinner, movie, then playing drunken 'Taboo' lol. Some things to do that are hip nowadays? I guess I have been playing poker too long that Im living under a rock. Is going to the arcade acceptable at my age? lol

Rallying off of a downswing & a small milestone by rossro, November 05

The middle of October was not a very good time for me, a combination of poor play/playing while tired/tilt led to a 12 buy-in 'downswing'. Although downswing is definately not the right word since this was definately the result of terrible play and tilt... but w.e.. Anyways since then I have managed to rally quite well and have been able get back the mental stabilty that I have had over the past few months, (thanks eightfold path to enlightenment) This week I was able to reach a small milestone in my short heads up career that I am very proud of. These are my results from Aug 1 - Today, all hu 100nl (wish my comp handn't crashed and I had a graph right from july when I began heads up.)

Graph since Oct 21 (rally after downswing)

Apologizes for the self indulgent brag post, but sometimes a person forgets to be thankful for what they have unless you take a step back. I am so proud of myself for the amount of work and dedication I have put in to get me this far. I better wrap this up before it turns into a novel.

Gl on the tables in November everyone!!!

My graphs by Hence, November 05

So after doing some searching and research I'm still having trouble making sense of my graphs. Can anyone tell me if this looks like I'm on the right track?

I 6 table 10NL.

EV Graph:
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/8053/fakeawakeevgraph.png

SD/NSD Graph:
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/7459/fakeawakesdnsdgraph.png

I understand what the lines on the second graph mean. I don't know if it's good or not. I mainly don't understand if my EV graph is good though.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Update on my poker career by MARSHALL28, November 05

For about the last 5-16 months I had been trying to come to grips with the fact that I just will never be as good as I thought I was capable of. I had thought for a long time that I would one day be good enough to sit in the 25/50 games and be feared by most at the table. After suffering from losing a number of very long losing streaks and struggling to maintain a bankroll big enough to play 1/2 I was finally starting to accept the fact that I wasn't good enough to ever beat any higher than 1/2 or 2/4 and I'd be resigned there for the rest of my poker career. This was very depressing for me to have to accept, it almost made the whole point of continuing to play fruitless. It also destroyed my confidence in my own abilities in other aspects of life. I mean, if I couldn't do well in this one thing I had been working so hard at for 3 years--I must just not be very smart and not able to succeed in other fields either.

I've been getting coaching from Tommy Angelo, 2 hours a day twice a month, what I thought might be my last chance to restore my hope and my belief in myself. He has definitely done a lot for me, and has helped me to understand a lot of things about life and about poker. The biggest one would be, I suppose, that it doesn't really matter how far I can go or what I've done in the past. I began meditating and doing yoga at his behest, and in general I felt better about myself and felt more at ease with my situation and the world. I was at the point where I was spending an hour every day when I woke up doing nothing but focusing on my breathing while meditating and doing yoga. I'm not at that point anymore, but the things he taught me are lessons I'll definitely keep with me the rest of my life. For that I'm thankful.

Tommy doesn't do much strategy coaching, so I also hired a new betting strategy coach, D_zoo. He is a really excellent coach and I would recommend him to anyone. He has the experience of playing against the best players, and he has the experience of playing for very high stakes. There are few people I've ever received coaching from that have explained certain things to me about the game that I hadn't actually thought of before. I pride myself on being able to think about every conclusion one might be able to come to, or any possible way one might be able to think about the game. And some of the stuff he has shown me are things I just had never really considered, it's been very interesting and very insightful.

Anyways, the point is, I really feel re-generized--like those previous dreams are no longer pipe dreams--that it still can happen. Lately I've been watching a lot of youtube interviews with top poker players. One I recall very well was an interview with Phil Ivey. He said that when he was learning the game, he played 14 hours a day every day for something like 6 years (maybe it was more, I don't remember the exact amount of years). But if I matched the time that I've put into the game compared to him, I've really only put in like 1500 hours total if that (and that's just when he was coming up, not counting all the time he's played since he's been owning). I wasn't lucky enough to play poker in the pre-UIGEA days like many of the top, super rich LP pros. I'm not using it as an excuse for why I'm not better, I'm just using it to justify the fact that I haven't been around long enough and haven't put in enough time to have that kind of success. This only means one thing, I have to keep working, and I have to keep working hard.

If I hadn't purchased that 911 I would be so much further ahead now than I am. I've basically been in financial trouble almost since the day I bought it, constantly needing to cash out and not able to build my roll above 1/2. I definitely won't be making the same mistake this time...This time being the first time since then that I have a decent sample of hands where I'm beating 2/4 for a solid winrate. I definitely won't be cashing out much and am going to be doing everything I can to get myself integrated into the 3/6 games then make that jump to 5/10. My goal is to have taken at least one shot at 5/10 w/ 50k BR by February 2010.

Couple things on the side, I made a series of guest videos for Cardrunners in attempts to get some kind of attention from the site and hopefully get a deal to do coaching, but that's seeming less and less likely since the last time Taylor responded to me was about a month and a half ago. Because I wanted to continue doing coaching and did want to make more videos, I connected with a small training website called grinderschool.com. It's a site that focuses on micro stakes mostly--but that's fine with me because I doubt I could coach any higher than 1/2nl at this point in my career. I've made a couple videos for them, a 50nl and 100nl, then a bunch of leakfinders and a coaching series. If you are interested in receiving coaching I have room for a few more guys, you can find my info on this site:

http://www.grinderschool.com/grinders...poker-strategy-private-coaching.shtml

I like the idea of helping other people and definitely want coaching to continue to be a part of my poker career. There isn't a whole ton of redeeming value to playing poker, but in coaching, at least you get the satisfaction of helping someone else improve their game, which is nice.

So here's the results that inspired this post and the reason I think I need to continue to push on:

Rebuilding (again) by LemOn[5thF], November 05

I am not posting graphs any more as it is -ev.
I have watched 4 episodes on Real life NL Grinder and re watched 3 episodes of Coaching tree and looked and evaluated my game afterwards before Purging my Database to 'start afresh' and not to be slowed down by my small RAM.

Anyway the biggest leaks were:

1) Too wide default opening UTG and UTG+1
The word default is crucial as I believe it is really bad to have a starting hand chart. But now to open hands less than QJs+ and KQo+ + all pps I need to have a reason (specific table dynamics) as opposed to previously tightening up only after evaluating that the table dynamics require it.

This will have a very small impact on my 4 tabling game as I adjust after like 15 hands anyway, by when I 6+ table this should be a very +ev move that saves me moneyz.

2) Small default bet sizing.
I should especially cbet bigger against villains that I play non-exploitable style against as it makes them less likely to call and allows me to bloat the pot when I have a strong hand.

3) I don't play exploitably enough against not attentive villains.

What I said for decent enemies doesn't apply at all. I was cbetting way too big amounts against fish and value betting too low.
Now my default cbet size against villains that play their own cards is 50% when I miss and 90% when I hit as a general rule, adjusting to specific boards.

I also never adjusted my PF sizing properly at its something that is also easily exploitable.
I use a lot of minraising pre when there are nits and one fish, and I will make use of 6bb+ preflop opening in early position when there is one huge fish and some tags for example.

I play was playing a very exploitable style against villains that couldn't exploit it, but I will take it to whole new level now.

3) BR management.
Although I have been playing in games that I crush for 2 months now, I can't get to my regular limits due to my hypertilts.
I will newly play with 30BI+ BR at all levels to offset this.

I don't really care how fast I progress, there is a lot to learn on any limit when I don't autopilot.

Here is my couple hands at NL10 since I started watching the vids and started 4-6 tabling (which I find much harder than 9+ tabling in automode btw )
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/dcf69.KEKE.png

I will also post a blog every Sunday that shows all my brainless spews that make no fucking sense and I hate myself for doing them not only afterwards, but even DURING the actual hands BEFORE clicking the buttons.

I have no monetary or progress goals, I just want to play good poker, don't throw away stacks without at least understand why I do so, and above all have fun

For the lolz: (I won a KJ v JJ shove vs a guy that just sat down the hand before)

Okeeey, I dont like headlines by Jimmit, November 05

Last time I wrote was on my birthdate I think, I was pretty drunk and wrote something about nothing. Because I knew that, what I wrote was very stupid and totally incomprehensible.

At this time I've made the choise that I shold get time to seriously focus on poker. I've been doing that for the last three weeks and it has been a very good result so long. I started with 350 Swedish kronor, which is like €35 or $50, and played around two weeks on "Svenska Spel" which is the swedish states client. The 350kr was 2600kr before I cashed out to switch client. I saved 1000kr to a trip home from Stockholm and to beer, and the rest (€150) I put in on Tellpoker which is a client on MicroGaming network.

There have they been since 22nd October and grown to €390. Sometimes I've been playing like a fucking retard but when I'm in focus and do what I should I'm playing very profitable on the limits NL€10 and NL$20. I will be posting hands to get comments on, and I will also try to be understandable in english.. Which is a language I'm not pretty good in.
