The Ramrods by k2o4, January 17

EDIT: Embedded music and vid are not working, which is totally killing the intended awesomeness of this blog post... oh well.

http://www.ramrodsdetroit.com/logo.gif

(I'm reposting this from my team's forum cause the Ramrods just got their first music video and I thought it would be nice to share it with everyone). New Music Video

I've mentioned The Ramrods before. Actually, Flip, you listened to them in my car when we drove up on the road trip. I've got a bit of a tie to the band that's kept me up to date with them even when I try to be apathetic. More than just liking their music, I know about them because the lead singer is my step-dad.

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad/IRLPictures/Ramrod1.JPG

That's him 20 or so years ago. Actually, when he was my age he was in this band. When I'm my age I'm running a BW team. He gives me lots of shit for this. I give him shit for being old and it all works out.

I can't really tell you about The Ramrods as well as he can though, so I won't try and will instead share the email I just got from him. Enjoy.

I'm certain that Susan Rynski was at every gig we played in the Ramords' long, 6 month + 3 week run. Like the first time, the night Elvis died August 16, 1977. The next two times we played, Marc Bolan died in a car wreck, and the Lynyrd Skinner plane crashed. People started saying to us, "Uhhh, maybe you guys shouldn't play."

The internal politics of The Ramrods was a seething cesspool of twisted emotion. Which created a wonderful stage show, if you're of the ilk who like to watch people suffer. In public. On stage. Every time we'd play, I'd manage to piss lots of people off. To wit: we had a three night stand at the Velvet Hammer - a biker bar on 11 Mile - with Don Was' the Traitors and The Pigs. Now, every time we played fights broke out in the audience. Truly bad vibe onstage. The Pigs opened - remember Steve "Dr. Ching" King played bass, and with Mike Rushlow's witty/bitter/wistful writing (Steve contributed as well) they were my favorite band. So anyway, My Big Mouth got onstage, chose a loving biker couple out of the audience, and sweetly said to them, "Dude, your bitch gave me a blowjob in the parking lot and she raked me!" I'd clearly perverted the biker's sense of decorum, and he was on top of me like a cheetah on meth, beating the living shit out of me, and we hadn't played one note.

Once I was bleeding enough, the biker let up and The Ramrods began to play. Somewhere near the end of the set, I offered up some more of my patently philisophical statements to the audience, and the next thing I knew I was dragged off the stage and into the parking lot by 10 harley-booted bikers, who seemed to delight in this manner of recreation. I tried to fight back, but .. they stomped the snot out of me. Later, like two weeks ago when I had lunch with Don at Musso and Frank's in Hollywood, he recalled the incident and said, "You were great! You were like a fluffer for the Traitors!"

From our gig on Elvis Dies Day August '77, to the Most Bitter End at the Red Carpet on February 8th - Jerry Viles' birthday - 1978, we had managed to just make it all worse, we had lost The Battle for no good reason, far too many times. Plus we were tired of getting our holes worked by our extremely unpleasant guitarist. After 6 months + 3 weeks, we quit. I thank Susan Rynski for her perseverence, her great skill of capturing the days' zeitgeist. I also apologize once again for breaking your collarbone with my mic stand. You're a true friend, and a serious artist. You contributed greatly to the scene, and I'm thankful for it.

The Ramrods: Violence is Job One.

Ugh.

All hail rock'n'roll, baby!

-- Mark J. Norton, November 1st, 2005

So that's the story. I suggest checking out their site. They have started a bit of a reunion and done 2 shows in the last year or so, the last one being at new years eve at the royal oak theatre in Detroit, a show we got kicked out of cause an uptight security guard caught me drinking without a wrist band. Hopefully there will be more shows and The Ramrod spirit will live on.

I close with a few more shots of the greatness that was, and still is (20 years later and 40 pounds heavier) The Ramrods.

Yesterday; PT3 by Sloverville, January 17

I have no clue when PT3 is going to come out but i love the added 3b% stat. The session and winnings tabs look pretty tasty as well.

Ran like a one-legged dog yesterday until the final half hour or so. AA stood no chance AIPF against KK, AK, and QJo.

No poker today. Have jobs and then UL basketball tonight against Marquette. Fuck you Tom Crean.

fucking 50nl hates me by whamm!, January 17

argh this limit is close to tilting me. most of what i win at 25nl(and occassional shots at 100nl or 50nl6max) usually gets skimmed here. I've tried 12, even 8 tabling. I cannot say that I've made a lot of bad plays at all, this is just most coolers and races that I just can't seem to win over 27k hands. I mean I do win smallish and medium pots but most big pots are gg for me . Maybe this is just variance and I really don't have big 6 to 20bi downswings, but for the love of god, stop with the set over sets already. I used to play ftp so I'm used to brutal, and I mean really, really brutal beats and suckouts but the way the cards fall for me at 50nl are pretty ridiculous already. My br has grown mostly from 25nl and 50nl 6max and I really want to be a FR player right now due to low variance and shit. Oh well I just wanted to vent about it anyway. won back what I've lost this morning and I'm down just 20usd but I just hate "winning it back" from 25nl which is pretty sad. If my br gets to 4000 to 4500, I'm going directly to 100nl maybe playing less than 24 and joining seemingly weaker tables as many as it allows, not exactly x number of tables. good day everyone and goodluck to us all.

Very Quick NL200 Shot by k2o4, January 17

I've been aiming for a 6K BR before trying NL200, but at the same time I believe in moving up aggressively and taking shots. After studying my mistakes of the night I felt like I was playing overall pretty well and could do a good job of avoiding similar spew. Since it's kinda late (hence people are often tired and playing worse) and I napped in the afternoon and nice and awake, I figured it would be a good time to take a quick shot.

I was sitting on a $5,600 BR and figured I'd be fine with losing 3 buyins @ NL200 and rebuilding from $5,000 to take another shot later. I table selected like a virgin at a whorehouse and picked up 2 great tables. Decided to only play 2 as I've been playing less tables anyway, and this way I don't insta drop 3 buyins super fast. Plus I wanted to give full focus to the new playstyle.

One table had 2 super fish and 1 aggro LAG, while the other table gave me mostly nits. I had a LAG sitting to my right on both tables and they quickly tried to bully me out of my blinds, but some pretty quick 3 bets shut that down. On one table I was 3betting this guy so much that he kinda freaked out on me...

http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/1317I3betlots.jpg

It did help that I ran well and got lot's of good cards, but sadly I didn't get paid off on any of them. I mostly won pots on the turn or river, with some going down on Cbets. Flopped 2 sets which didn't get action at all. Oh well, still managed to come out winning. Very short session of only 100 hands so obviously it tells us nothing in regards to sample size, but 100 hands DOES take a bit to play on 2 tables so it felt kinda long, hehe.

http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/1379General-1-17-08-NL100and200-1day.jpg

This bumped my BR to $5,900 so I think I'll continue to 2-4 table NL200 from here on out unless I drop 3-4 buyins, then I'll drop down and rebuild. Definitely a lot more 3betting and raising preflop going on, but I've really focused on learning about that dynamic while @ NL100 and even though I didn't have many people to practice with since many didn't get too light, I was able to get in and play my LAG game here without being intimidated by the 3bets and so on. Let's see how this goes over time. I'm going to put a lot of effort into playing every hand the best I possibly can and stick to 2-3 tables for the next session.

Nice to be here though. A bit late in regards to my hopes as I wanted to make it by the 15th, but this is fine. I just hope I can win some buyins @ NL200 before the end of the month and solidly entrench myself in the new limit!

Btw, this hand is MUCH more manly than my AK below:

My NL100 Video @ DonkeyTest.com by JonnyCosMo, January 17

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, I made a NL100 video on http://www.DonkeyTest.com. Basically the video showcases what I would do normally while I play. If you're a standard ABC tight/aggressive player that is struggling to move up from NL100 (or NL200 for that matter) this is probably a must view. Lyric (creator of the donkeytest for those of you who didn't know) also put up a cute little profile for me:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/JonnyCosMo/DonkeyTestProfile.jpg

I made a few mistakes in the video that I thought I'd point out. Mistake #1 comes early in the vid where I have 7h6h and I flop the nuts. For some reason I could swear I had 8h7h instead, so when I'm saying "I think I have the best hand here..." and the board reads 8-5-4, and your looking at the 76 and asking yourself "O RLY? It's the nuts?" keep in mind that I thought I had 8h7h. Mistake #2 --> The K9 hand vs the dumb fish, don't value bet the river. I didn't really look at his stack size too much so I folded to the check-raise, but that should of been a call if I value bet the river. Other than that I think the vid is pretty straight forward. It's my first real video, so give me a little slack. No I don't plan on making any videos above NL200 let alone the stakes I currently play now... that would be retarded. And finally, YES I REALIZE I AM VERY BAD AT EXPLAINING THINGS.

You can find the video here: http://www.donkeytest.com/school.html

For those that don't know, Max Steinberg = redgrape, Marshall28 = ... duh? Lyric = God. Ok that's all! Hope you enjoy.

Positional Awareness Factor. by 27s, January 16

Just thought of this tonight while scrubbin toilets and what not. You know, the -EV thing I do for a living while not playing poker. Anyhow, no idea if this has already been thought of or in development but I think if PT/PAHUD ever get around to making their software better they really should include this idea whether it's mine or somebody else's.

I call it the Positional Awareness Factor! There could be 2 of them - one for vpip and one for PFR. I'm not sure how it should be calculated but there is definitely a way. Basically the PAF should give an arbitrary number similar to AF but but for the purpose of giving an indication of how tight an oppontent is UTG and in the blinds opposed to on the button. Suppose the higher the number this is the greater difference there is between a player's vpip UTG and OTB which should provide additional information to help narrow villain's hand ranges. Suppose you are against an opponent who runs 12/10/3 at 6max and he raises under the gun. If he has a very high PAF factor you have to figure that his hand is likely much narrower than 10%. Maybe 5%. 3betting this guy light with 99 is probably a bad idea in that case. If our opponent showed a PAF factor which was lower indicating that a raising hand is a raising hand then we could play accordingly.

Just a thought, hope somebody reads this and says ya that's a cool idea. Ship it.

Spewed a bit tonight in bad all-ins yet came out slightly up. This was my biggest spew that was not an all-in.

Planned to play poker earlier this afternoon but fell asleep after eating a huge late lunch and watching an episode of heroes. Sat into a horrible session where I managed to dump 2 buyins really quick, so I got off and watched JohnnyCosmo's video from the DonkTest site. Was actually pretty good and when I got back on I played overall well, but got it in stupid a bit which caused me to not get it in later when my gut said push but my balls said fold.

Oh well, that's poker, right?

dunno by SneakrFreakr, January 16

So I played a bit in the last week or so. Ran like shit for the first few days but pwned everyone in the last 3 days and I'm up almost 6k euros on nl400 (euro tables so it's like nl600 in dollars) which is sweet after breaking even (without playing much) in December. Hopefully the good run will last longer. Not gonna post PT stats cause they're messed up and I'm too lazy to convert it into $ etc. Played some nl200 HU on FTP yesterday as well. Just 1tabling though but I felt much more comfortable this way and I was really focused. I know I wasn't supposed to play HU but I changed my game a bit and actually do some table selection so I don't get into some crazy matches with agro monkeys where variance is insane. Won like $600 or so.

Other than that life is boring. Went out last Friday but didn't get drunk until 1am cause the que at the bar was insane. Pretty mediocre night. Since then I've been just finish my project, going to lectures and playing a bit poker.

I've got some plans for the next 2 months though. I've got like 6 days off at school from 11th February so I'm thinking about hitting London. F4zi's b-day is around the same time so we might actually do some ballin in town together. Then in the end of February I wanna hit EPT Copenhagen. Probably not gonna play poker at all but just wanna meet and hang out with LPers. Should be sick fun. Actually I think I already mentioned it in the previous post. Then my easter break starts around 13-14th of March. I've got two options. I can go to Amsterdam for a 3-day trip or hit Warsaw for EPT (just to hang out and maybe play a bit). Like 2 days after EPT there's Rihanna's concert in Warsaw so I'm gonna go and when she sees me she'll fall in love with me obviously and we're gonna get married and I'll move in with her in LA. We can go to Barbados or wherever she's from as well. EZ game. So Amsterdam or Warsaw? After either of these I'm going home for like 3 weeks so ship it. And then back to Manchester.

Hopefully I'll finish my project till Saturday so I can at least get wasted this weekend. Maybe I'm gonna go buy some clothes too. Or sth else. I think I need to treat myself for working so hard in the last 2 weeks. Suggestions anyone?

First step by NiTE, January 16

Hi everyone!

ok i've decided to make this thing so I can keep track of everything plus get comments at the same time.

Started playing again after my Titan poker bonus account got deleted for cheating(they dont ask anything, they just delete you, and i didn even do anything on purpose).

Anyway, applied for bonus at CDPoker, got the moneyz within 15 minutes(50$), started playing a few days ago.
Then Deadman made PokerTracker possible for me, and with the advice he gave me before, i was on my way.

This is my progress for the last 3-4 days that i've been using PT.

I used to play tight like that at first, but i had the feeling i didn earn much money like that. So i experimented alot, tried to customize my play to suit the guys that play along me on microstakes. However, after DLing PT and comparing my numbers (while playing tight) to the numbers here, i figured i was setting my goals too high. I was surprised when I read that its good if your have BB/100 above 5 or so. Even tho that was probly intended for people on higher limits, it still calmed me down and made me just play my game normally. Turns out I had good time so far, even tho i dont feel i've been runnin _especially_ good cardswise.

The screenshot:
http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/4/1/16/t_PTm_fd77a06.png

So my stats are: 14/9.5/2.5 (this last number is TotalAF?)

I've noticed my Flop AF is a bit high, probly because I Cbet almost every flop i raise PF. I noticed that, thought about it a bit, and noticed some situations where i shouldnt have played that way. After that I've generally started CBetting less, its not wise to use this too much vs these dumbfucks.

If you have any advice, dont be shy, fire away!
