Very Quick NL200 Shot

I've been aiming for a 6K BR before trying NL200, but at the same time I believe in moving up aggressively and taking shots. After studying my mistakes of the night I felt like I was playing overall pretty well and could do a good job of avoiding similar spew. Since it's kinda late (hence people are often tired and playing worse) and I napped in the afternoon and nice and awake, I figured it would be a good time to take a quick shot.

I was sitting on a $5,600 BR and figured I'd be fine with losing 3 buyins @ NL200 and rebuilding from $5,000 to take another shot later. I table selected like a virgin at a whorehouse and picked up 2 great tables. Decided to only play 2 as I've been playing less tables anyway, and this way I don't insta drop 3 buyins super fast. Plus I wanted to give full focus to the new playstyle.

One table had 2 super fish and 1 aggro LAG, while the other table gave me mostly nits. I had a LAG sitting to my right on both tables and they quickly tried to bully me out of my blinds, but some pretty quick 3 bets shut that down. On one table I was 3betting this guy so much that he kinda freaked out on me...

It did help that I ran well and got lot's of good cards, but sadly I didn't get paid off on any of them. I mostly won pots on the turn or river, with some going down on Cbets. Flopped 2 sets which didn't get action at all. Oh well, still managed to come out winning. Very short session of only 100 hands so obviously it tells us nothing in regards to sample size, but 100 hands DOES take a bit to play on 2 tables so it felt kinda long, hehe.

This bumped my BR to $5,900 so I think I'll continue to 2-4 table NL200 from here on out unless I drop 3-4 buyins, then I'll drop down and rebuild. Definitely a lot more 3betting and raising preflop going on, but I've really focused on learning about that dynamic while @ NL100 and even though I didn't have many people to practice with since many didn't get too light, I was able to get in and play my LAG game here without being intimidated by the 3bets and so on. Let's see how this goes over time. I'm going to put a lot of effort into playing every hand the best I possibly can and stick to 2-3 tables for the next session.

Nice to be here though. A bit late in regards to my hopes as I wanted to make it by the 15th, but this is fine. I just hope I can win some buyins @ NL200 before the end of the month and solidly entrench myself in the new limit!

Btw, this hand is MUCH more manly than my AK below:

good work man. Im envious. I've got a BR of $1500 and am quickly approaching $2k at which point I'm going to test the water at $100NL for a few buy-ins. Any advice on the difference from 50cent to $1?

ROFL!!

I had no idea =)

Now I feel bad - I don't like harassing other LP.net guys. Now I know who you are I can avoid you in the future and keep my BR safe, haha ^^ The real question is, did you know who I was while we were playing? I'm curious =)

27s, I think the biggest diff I remember was that some people will actually 3bet light other than aggro maniacs. I also found that there were a LOT more TAG players and it was really hard for me to win vs them by playing TAG too.

btw that was NOT a fishy table lol....

and anyway... about your whole BR management, i think you should try to achieve a good winrate and better your skills at 100 nl instead of worrying so much about BR and limits.... its all about trying to get a solid winrate.... forget about the money and just try to get better at poker

There were 2 HUGE fish on there! Plus 1 TAG and you... and some other guy who wasn't involved in much at all. I played basically all my hands @ that table vs the 2 shortstacked fish.

Thanks for the advice =) I definitely focus on the better @ poker all the time. I just have some BR rules for myself that have kept me from ever going bust. I also like to keep moving up as I can and am fine with taking shots since I move back down really quickly. Overall winrate @ NL100 has been fine so far though I don't have a huge amount of hands, I do admit that. But I'm fine bouncing back and forth between the 2 for now, especially since I'm at the high end of being rolled for NL100.

I'm not completely new to the game despite some of my idiotic mistakes that I've made lately... I've had plenty of downswings and harsh lessons. I started playing about a year and a half ago and really didn't get anywhere for the first year. The last 5 months I've played 121,000 hands and faced a lot of tough shit, the hardest being dealing with my own emotions. I'm pretty well rolled and ready to drop down very quick, so anymore harsh lessons that come I can take them on @ NL100 if they force me to move back down. I appreciate the concern but I think you're making judgments based on very little info about me, what I've been through and what I'm capable of.

Anyway, here's all my stats for the last 5 months:

Thanks for the concerns though, and especially for the comments on the hand in the midstakes forum =)

Taking shots is fine. Just have the discipline to move down if you have to.

definitely. That's the only way shots work.

and lebowski, I'm pretty sure it was just that he kept stealing with 3x raises and that I kept 3betting him =)
