Even tho I quit smoking recently, and I FUUUUUUCKING HATE IT, life has been pretty good in other areas for me.
For instance, my graph since I quit smoking:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/06a5ee525dcfe6dcc8a6e3e3cab212ca.jpg
not that bad eh (total brag but w/e)
And the ipod touch and book I ordered not to long ago also came in, but I don't have them in my hands just yet, so no pics/thoughts on that.
So I decided after goin up well over my goal today, to actually be satisfied for once
and take the rest of the day off.
I started it off by watchin a little bit of this vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1123/1453161827_4b87bc94af_o.jpg
which after episode 4 of the tv series, I like alot --
(they save the goofing off, like they do ALOT of in Bleach, for after the credits -- and it's much better)
Once I caught up w/ what I had downloaded so far in the Stand Alone Complex series, I decided to take my mind back into the fray -- but not poker obviously
http://www.chesskingdom.com/chess/templates/chess_kingdom_3/images/chess1.jpg
so CHESS was my choice!
Well...actually StarCraft was my first choice for today, but I spent like 20 minutes looking for my reg SC disk because it isn't loaded onto this laptop; I must of lost it in my last move I'm currently screwed as far as BW goes
So chess it is!
I used to be into chess just as much if not more than I am into Poker. I never got to be really really good tho, but I did have ability.
I could play blind, knew a ton of opening theory, endgame strat, history etc, but it eventually turned into just a hobby, which I am now totally grateful for.
So I fired up my chess server, and sat down against a guest, for a 2 12 blitz game. Meaning we both start with 2 minutes, but for each move we do, we get 12 seconds added on.
I'm going to review this as I post it. I've not looked over it yet but I enjoyed this game alot and it's the only one I played so far. I'm white this game.

An interesting move, I don't run into the Petrov -- or Russian Defense -- against e4 much. But when I first started, I did employ this defense as one of my own. My reasoning: to take some initiative by hitting e4 as well as to stray from the well known and famous Ruy Lopez line. If I remember correctly, ppl generalize The Petrov as tending to be a bit on the boorish side...but it wasn't so much when I played it
3. Nxe5 Qe7
Again, I'm no pro, and it's been forever since I did anything serious with this game. In fact the last time I spent even this much energy on a game would have to be 8+ years or so. In saying that, these are just my thoughts on the game, they won't be perfect, nor looked up, nor quoted.
This move is different than usual. This move tells me it is pretty safe to say I'm playing a human, and not a computer...which rocks. It also feels more on the novice side. However, fast games -- which I define as blitz and under for me -- was always something I was weak at, and this move could be done just to mix things up away from main line theory and beat me to a pulp in an unorthodox style, u know, just for fun....so I didn't let myself get overconfident yet.
4. d4 Nxe4

5. Bd3 d5
I moved on Bd3 rather fast, and in retrospect, I believe bc4 is much stronger, making d5 impossible atm, and attacking the f7 square. I noticed this right after I moved.
6. Qf3 c6
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/49f71cfad97626d8395bb77d5b212e4a.png
When black played c6 it made me go huh? I think this was played as an in between move, trying to trap me..
7. Bxe4 dxe4
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/3536493e650c2369acc4993e3e596224.png
..into taking the e pawn with my Queen. I can not play Qxe4 here because I would lose my knight due to an unprotected Queen once the knight has to move because of f6. So! We move forward..missing a trap
8. Qe2 Bf5
I decide to retreat my Queen to the best spot I could find and develop her, attacking and planning on eating my opponents now weak e pawn in just a matter of time. He decides to throw up some D for it.
9. Nc3 f6
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/7de190e5269d91127c8511d066f7a0bc.png
My opponent decides to draw a line. With 9... f6 I must now decide and finalize a few things about my opening before I lose my head (or my knight). I won't get into a complete detail as to what I mean as this would get long winded. Lets just say here I ate up some time thinking about what to do with my king and what I wanted to do to his.
10. g4!? fxe5
I really only had two moves here. I could move the knight to safety on c4. I did not see anything wrong with that move. But to me, especially in this part of the game....this is where u always need a plan. I can tell/feel by now that my opponent is a solid player, he may not be a master, but he aint no complete chump either. If I play Nc4 what is my plan? What am I doing?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/bb1472a3481f38a3e2a37f7a9cf2e60f.png
The best moves in this stage of the game generally speaking are moves ignoring ur opponents threat and creating your own BIGGER threat; you force him to play your game not you playing his, and with Nc4 it felt like I wasn't doing shit.
As I said before, I thought for awhile before playing this move, and made sure to the best of my ability that my ass was covered and my goals were met in doin such a move. The outcome in my analyzation within the timeframe I had was it looked like a gamble, but for the most part solid.
11. gxf5 exd4
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/16e6a858db0143b0811b1b1366386e59.png
Without getting into all the variations of what could of happened, this is the line/position I thought I would most likely be at with me playing g4. It looks at first glance like black has complete control of the game, but if you look for a little while, you will find plenty of leaks hehe
12. Qh5+ Kd7
This is one of the things I wanted. I wanted him to move his king, but not to safety by castling or some such. Playing g7 or Kd8 are two much worse moves that I would of loved for him to do. In looking at it, I think Qf7 would be blacks best move here. I'll let u decide, this is all just for fun anyhow

14. O-O-O Bd6
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/4e2cd6ab483eef2c28c76ba81674fa0c.png
What is so awesome and what rarely happens is when something goes as planned. This was my plan and what I was striving for since g4! However, I have learned the hard way not to start dancing/celebrating/feeling good about this now. Execution is the hard part.
15. Qf7+ Kc8
The timing and correct order of attack is key, and I started slowly chewing up some of my time here, bit by bit
16. Nxe4 Rf8
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/6ed3ced2941cb3c59fef15073662365e.png
17. Qe6+ Kc7
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/42b2e02c8f62047906d06edaf7492853.png
Solid moves, but nothing too clenching being done yet, it feels like it is coming together, but I need to do something now before he equalizes. (This was my thinking/thought process at this point in the game -- I believe he had over 2 minutes left, and me well under a minute)
18. Rxd4?!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/1abcfec89d6c026a1cbb8738ad8fbfea.png 18. ... Qxd4
I saw something, it felt right, and I was running low on time. There was something here and I knew it, but I only had 10-15 seconds left. This is similar to pushing all in with air when u think it might even be good but your time bank is almost up so you can't think it through -- you got nothing left but your gut
19. Rd1 Qe5

21. fxe6 h6
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/89de53abe61e16f8e05098607959b5db.png
h6 is a bad move on his part. I think he first saw Rf4, and it does look good at first glance, coinciding this with him wanting to keep the time pressure on me (I was under 20 seconds almost the whole 2nd half of the game) is why I think he did it, but then he realized that Rf4 was a really bad move with my e-pawn amongst other things
22. Bh4 Re8
he moves to my epawn threat
23. Bg3 Na6

26. Bc7+ Kb5
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/b79232e88daea8b9e3a76994b8eeabf6.png
I don't see nd6+ that would pretty much wrap up the game -- I got wrapped up in how to win the knight for free
27. c4+ Kxc4
28. b3+ Kb5
29. a4+ Nxa4
30. bxa4+ Kxa4

| | Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch by Babygrand, January 16
The East Lansing crew has taken quite a few late tourney bad beats this week. Almost all of them were KK. Let's hope last night was the final one. Pykesgoinpro reached the final table of the nightly hundred on stars and lost KK to JJ for right about the chip lead with 8 to go. That was the toughest one, but we have had quite a few. We r just waitin to break loose and win one of these.
Until then, I guess I will keep on grindin' away. We had a few University of Michigan boys over last night for some mid-stake action. I took almost a thousand out of the game. Made a nasty call...
The Wolverine raises cut-off, I call with AJ. He checks 752 flop. I bet $25, he makes it $75, I call (I set him up to do this cuz it was my 4th position bet in a row, so now I have to call down). Turn 7. He checks, I bet $50, he calls. River 8. He bets $200, I fast call and flip the cards over. Ballzy move. But knew where I was. Luckily he didnt have me outkicked or quads, woulda been real embarassing.
In other news, we are all goin to Cabo for SB now. It will be kind of ridiculous.
Also I am thinking about buying a new laptop. I already have a desktop, which I enjoy thoroughly, but I play offsite probably 30% of the time. Any suggestions?

| | Doing relatively well by 21drful, January 16
Ive been play very well lately, however i have discovered many of my leaks. Most of them im pretty sure i can elmiated with more experience. ONe of my leaks is pushing in the wrong situations. I had a bad habit of pushin on draws. Now I've adjusted my technique to just flat calling. I played stupid in the past and drop about 50 dollars. However, by playing ABC poker ive managed to make about 100 dollars the last 3 days. Even though this may not seem alot to many of you it is to me. Especially to someone who is just starting off. So hopefully I can run better and be able to afford some lessons on this website. I really hope that, that day will come because this site has a tremendous amount ot talent when it comes to coaches. Ive built my BR on both PS and FTP. Im thinking of just consoladating both acounts and sending what i have on PS to FTP.

| | Well i'm bad. :( by Ftrunkz, January 16
Lately, due to stupid decisions and a bit of a bad run, i've dropped my roll from $200 down to $140! :{. I tried my luck at NL10 without nearly enough experiance in NL5 and got smashed down 2.5 BI's, i'm about 5 BI's from a combination of my first downswing and tilting in NL5. I've also lost a little bit from tournaments, which, after placing in in the majority of my last few, decided i was ready to play $10+ ones...
I do actually have a question rather then just general whinging about me sucking, What's the general rule when it comes to BR management in MTT's? I definitely want to keep playing them regularly including ring, but i feel unless i set myself a definitely rule like the 20BI rule for ring, I'm bound to repeat the same mistake.

| | first night of the year on stars by Reload, January 16
deposited $50 after cashing out on rednines, and brought it up to $90 playing $6.50 sngs. off to a good starts. i just tried 8 tabling; it's hard for me to keep track on all the tables, but i can still tell which people are raising a lot and which are tight and got two 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd place finish, which was nice. earlier session i only played 5 SNGs and got 2nd in 3 of them. hopefully by the end of the month i'll have enough to start multi tabling the $13, but i have a lot of grinding to do, especially since school is about to start.
so how many buy ins should i have before i move up?

| | Jan @ NL100 till now by k2o4, January 16
Well had my first solid winning day in a while pulling in 6 buyins over about 900 hands. Playing less tables has really paid off and it feels great to be PAYING ATTENTION rather than just maniacally spewing everywhere. I'm basically exactly where I was a week ago but that's ok, glad that I didn't downswing too hard. I think I did an overall ok job of avoiding tilt, usually quitting sessions after tilting off only 1 buyin. Only had 1 session where I played way too long and I still am kicking my own ass over it.
Still hopeful to move up to NL200 by the end of the month. I think it's definitely possible and if I keep playing smart like I did today then I think I can move up and win. Overall have run pretty well this month and think that this downswing would have been a lot more of a wall where I broke even for 6,000 hands if I hadn't let tilt affect me. Here's the pics:
Here's PT stats for January:
http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/2099General-1-16-08-NL100-Jan.jpg
Graph for January:
http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/2787Graph-1-16-08-NL100-Jan.jpg
Graph of the downswing:
http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/7748Graph-1-16-08-NL100-Downswing.jpg
Never got down more than 6 buyins, so that's nice. Guess it wasn't really much of a downswing at all.
I feel like I could have handled myself much better during this cold period, but I am overall happy cause it forced me to learn a lot more stuff and now I'm playing less tables and really focusing a lot more. I dumped a handful of the stats I had displayed with PAH cause I was relying on them too much and am now focusing more on game flow, timing tells, and watching hands that I'm not involved in to get info. Plus I'm playing 4 tables max and am totally absorbed the entire time, never bored. It's great.
That's all for now. It's late and I should be in bed but wasn't able to fall asleep and felt hungry. Had a big bowl of mac-n-cheese and did this post, and now feeling kinda sleepy.
Gnight

I couldn't add a blog entry on Sunday because LP wasnt loading for me. Basically I lost like $1600 in about 300 hands or so of pure coolers, lost flips, suckouts, and what have yous. Here are some snippets of Sunday's last session, not Sunday alone.

Yesterday, I didn't have time to play, so today I finally found some time to play. Bad idea. http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/7145f1c9de769076391ec01cc7067f84.jpg
Towards the end, two tables got down to HU and one guy was 3 betting effectively 100% of my button opens and whenever I do call, he seems to hit some sort of flop. I finally took a stand at a bad time figure he might be overplaying a hand, and well, nope, he wasn't.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362380
*history vs this villain:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362389
This was probably a bad float anyways, but when 2 straights got there, I cant believe he'd call there. At the time, we've had like virtually no history
At the same time this was happening, my other HU table got me set up this way:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362382
Right after that, here we go! I think this is just one of a small handful of AK vs AA/KK type hands today
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362384
Maybe hes never full of shit here, but I've seen him overplay so many stupid spots its funny.
Another one vs a 20/18 type
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362385
Another gay spot. I prolly could've 3 bet more but I didn't like pfr since hes tighter than your avg TAG, something like 18/10 or 18/12 I think
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362386
Heres an undisciplined river call, I don't think hes clever enough to do this as a bluff. I went into this telling myself to bet/fold. Although, I could've checked behind here because I dunno if he'll ever call light here.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362387
Some spewtardedness towards the end of my session
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362390
Can't figure out what he can have here, but I beat none of his draw hands anyways and he left 70 behind, so not much I can do about it. Alternatively, should I be shoving this flop here always? I dont think my flush draw is bigger than his if thats what hes on
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362391
I most certainly lost 100% of these short stack flips
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/362393
All in all, I'm down about 22 buyins in my last 8k hands. Fun times.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/253fd29605539bf832d501d5ea6aee45.jpg
I think with my remaining roll, I'm going to move down to 100 for awhile just to regain some confidence and look for some leaks I may have developed. I cashed out a fair bit this month, while my roll can still sustain a few more days of these wtfs at 200NL, I feel theres no reason to dicksmash myself while its going bad. I think what I'll do is, grind back to 10k at 100NL, which is something like 12buyins, then move back to 200. This time I'll try and move up to 2/4 when I have 20k as opposed to some stupid set amount of hands or w/e at 1/2. Wish me luck, pz

for the first time in quite a while, i've noticed that the quality of my play has suffered as a result of mental fatigue attributable to being a fucking grindbot.
i've since taken the opportunity to delve deeply into the mysteries of the sb and, i must say, it is a unique and hellish monster. a delicious juicy hellish monster.
subjects up for consideration:
concessions
ranges
passed offers
%s
outright wins as a function of performance against nominal defense ranges
domination rates
exploitation and the related personalization of abuse by fagnits
outright exploitation
image considerations
expected recoup when faced with a defender
ranges and stack/pot (as especially related to turn play)
generalized pot control
and that's just sb opsteal still got oop attsteal and generalized fuckwitu and then balancing it all muthafuckin dreeeeeeeeeeeeeee
wheeeee
the hell of it is that if you can play a hand for less of a loss than outright concession, esp in opsteal, you should do so without regard for the movement introduced into your aggregate results
however, no satisfactory mechanism exists by which you can iterate the process, and, in adding hands, you amplify domination problems while also playing a greater number of pots oop while carrying those problems and it is uniquely difficult to control potsize under those circumstances, especially if you are also being exploitative

I think I'll be taking a break from all of this. 24 tabling has really sort of burnt me out a bit. Good news is I think that although my winrate suffered a lot, I've been winning more consistently than 6max, which usually was heaters then cold runs then so so sessions. With my current game, I just play like a robot and make little moves here and there, every now and then, I hope I can move up to 100nl by february as scheduled, I don't expect things to get any better, but I'll just have to coz I'm rolled for it already and just wanna make more in a shorter session. peace out.
note:
it's been a ride trying to rebuild since nov.15 last year, I miss those heaters i used to have, I regret having to withdraw 3k for some stupid purchase, but I'm happy to say that I've been able to rebuild from my last remaining 600 two months ago to 3300 now. only proves i can really rebuild if things turn to shit
