Tourney attempts and Sit-n-Go by SfydjkLm, July 10

Today i played 1 hour before and 1 hour after work, crushing the .05/.1 tables. A bit bored with fish i decided to try something i've been wanting to do for a while now- a tournament. Now for the past 2 weeks i've been watching unhealthy amounts of WPT/WSOP/High Stakes poker in the timeslot of my schedule previously dedicated to watching an unhealthy amount of illegally obtained movies.

I started out with a 10 FPP turbo tournament. I tried to mix it up and play aggressive and it was semi-successful until i shoved all in with pocket 9s(i saw them do it on TV!)- against pocket Aces. Now i was somewhat shortstacked but imo i shoulda folded em when he reraised my raise instead of going all in. I finished somewhere halfway the field at 21xx of 55xx.

Then i started the NL Holdem freeroll(the satellite to some 2k tournament). I decided to be my normal self- a nit(hopefully im using this term correctly)> It worked real well at first, and by the time about 3/4 of the players were eliminated i was at 97 out of 2 something thousand. Unfortunately i wasnt getting to many hands after that and my nittiness stopped me from bluffing and what not. My last hand was an 88 all in against AK suited, the board came blankTTJJ. Blah! I finished just 74 places out of getting the satellite ticket at 173rd out of 12thousand. Now i'd like to say 173rd out of 12k is a good result, but i recall myself placing in that range way back when I was just playing poker for fun. Ill give myself a pat on the back anyway- I really doubt the players in this tourney are much worse then in the penny ones i took part in=)).

My third one was a .25 buyin tourney, it ended soon too because of my mistake when i slowplayed a pair of Aces and ran into flush. Real bad play by me, finished 2200 out of 3189.

Fourth was another 10 FPP turbo, and here i just got slaughtered by the increasing blinds not able to get a half decent hand. Every time i folded preflop something like 72o flop came 72x or whatnot. In the end i lost two big pots with 66 against TT and 22 against TT. Damn pocket tens.

To get my spirits up i signed up for a 'dolla twany' SnG- the first one for me ever really. Ive played freeroll tourneys before but SnG-never. It went as planned, i was a nit up until only 4 players were left. I quickly went up in chips, almost eliminatin 4th player calling an all in bluff. He covered me however and in the next few hands managed to get from 210 chips to chip lead, mostly with 2s too, pocketpair, a set, 2nd pair for Kings. Quiet funny really. After a while though i've managed to eliminate him after all and from there on made an easy job of the other two players. EZ fo fiddy.

Im considering building stack now on SNG instead of 5/10 for a while- SnGs seem to be significantly closer to the real poker- i know i've only done one but in that time i've bluffed, called bluffs, played tight and aggressive, instead of just playing the nuts on numerous fish filled dime tables.

a new trajectory by rockman255, July 10

i had an okay day today, so it probably helps me to write now so i have some idea where im headed.

the thing that really threw me off was that i broke my shoulder and got a non-serious back injury that are still quite inhibiting.. but i think im ready to start again; i really need to consider this as a new beginning and be humble about where i'm at

i made a few posts on the low stakes forum to get an idea of how to be extracting value from stronger hands; i think aside from that my weakest plays are dead obvious ones that i should be able to cut out.

perhaps i was trying a little too hard to outplay people in my first few days where at nl10 (sigh) i should just be playing my cards face up. i need to go back to basics and realize that as i slowly go up the limits i will need to adjust my game accordingly and for now i need to really go back to basics and just grind it out.

anyway, hopefully i can maintain something like 5ptbb/100 and go ahead with nl10, stopping for the day if i lose ~3BI from what i started at. i am starting around a $350 bankroll so maybe i should wait until something like $600, +25BI, before increasing limits since im so damn 'green' right now.

i must say that no matter what ive posted about on the hand analysis all of you guys have been really helpful and i appreciate any response i get, it always helps me get a very quick very good idea of how i should be acting in certain situations and makes it easy to correct myself.

if anyones still reading now you guys rule. hopefully ill post more later, until then good luck

Mid Week Report by vegable, July 10

Well summer classes were over for me last week so I've been playing quite a bit with sooo much free time. Putting in more than 1k hands a day by 6-tabling and thats just fine by me. I've been rewatching some old CR vids and feel like I'm returning to my old game where I used to not be afraid to put money in with marginal but dominating holdings against certain players. However I'm making some spewy river calls that could be cutting into my winrate significantly.

Well even though I've been playing really solidly these past few days unfortunately the poker gods decided to take a scat on my face. I've been running pretty bad but I guess more beats are an indication of how well you're playing?

Sweeeeeet by Cooperstown, July 10

Just found out I got the job, start on July 28th, the best part my benefits starts August 1st already so high-five for health insurance. As far as poker goes, been pretty stagnant for a month now, can't really seem to get much going but I haven't really been playing much either. Seems like I'm losing most big pots in cooler situation 2 pair vs a set, set under set etc. I'm sure there's some spew cutting into what little profit I should be making but oh well it's not a focus at the moment. Now I gotta get ready to move and start getting my body back on a normal sleep schedule.

Starting with poker by boblion, July 10

I'm Bw player who dont enjoy the game lately and started to play poker " seriously " for few weeks. ( i posted the same blog on Team liquid btw but i guess i can get some advices here too ). Dont bully me for my noobish questions please :>.

So i will give you a few informations about me. Two years ago a friend showed me that you could play for fun online and even get some free-rolls, and interested by the game i started to play just for fun ( and really bad ) on everest. But i still prefered bw so i didnt really play a lot. Then this year i was at university with another friend who is badly addicted to poker ( the guy lost 5000 euros in his two first months of poker :O ).

During the year we did some retarded turbo sng with rebuy with other university friends. I won one ( i got really lucky ) and i came back to home with 60 euros ) and i put 10 $ on everest and started to play cash game ( at the lowest limits ). Obviously i lost my 10 $ quite fast. I wasnt really worried and i came back to bw who was my main passion during this period.

But few weeks ago i got really bored by bw and i really enjoyed watching my " degenerate " friend playing. He improved a lot after his two first months but he has still two major flaws for a poker player: he has no br management + he plays drunk ( and nearly always go broke when he does this ).
Moreover i was more and more interested by the mathematical aspects of poker ( i study a bit maths at university and even if overall i dislike it, i have always enjoyed probability problems with cards / dices ).

So when my friend went broke one more time he tried to use the Poker-strategy br and asked me to create an account because he would benefit of their "tell- a -friend" offer.

Hence i started to read stuff here and on liquid poker, and i tried to do the "small-stack" strategy on the lowest cash limits on Titan poker.
That was horrible, i never felt as bored of life. I was playing like a bot and after losing like 5$ i decided to stop cash game because i disliked it.

I remembered that Rekrul said that many people suck at poker because they play to win money and to gamble instead of enjoying the game and trying to get better.

So i tried hu sng 1$+0,20 and after few wins i started to run bad and probably to tilt. After losing 3 games in a row to a donk who liked coin flips ( this guy went allin pre flop with J 10 i called with AQ and i lost .. ) i felt that my nerves couldnt stand the high variance of hu so i stopped and tried the 1$+0,20 sng with 6 players.

It was a really good choice. I enjoy it more than hu, i can play on 2 or 3 table at the same time, and it seems that variance is way lower here.
Moreover i started to play really really good ( for my standarts lol )+ having some really good hands.
I'm playing really tight atm and it works. I read my opponents way better than before too. And i think that over my 20 last sng i only made 10 bad decisions.

This may look quite pretentious but i think now that i'm playing well ( on this kind of micro sng only lol )+ i enjoy playing a lot.
Nevertheless i'm not retarded and i know that with such a small sample i cant know if i really played well or if got lucky.

here is my sharkscope graph:
http://pix.nofrag.com/9/e/0/dc70053737474e8096d77984a052ctt.jpg

So my main question is: after how many sng will i know that i'm good enought for higher stakes ? ( i want to move to 5$+1 with 6 people ).

Should i put a bit of money to increase my br and to move up , or should i grind slowly to get more money before moving ?

Vegas Trip by NewBornBaby, July 10

Hey all-

I'm heading into Vegas today from Jersey for my flight at 8:44 pm. I'm going to meet up with Steve (PoorUser) and I expect nothing but good times this weekend. Hopefully jet lag won't seriously fuck my sleep up. I'm sure I'll be ok with all the oxygen they pump in the casinos. Looking to crush some PLO when I'm there and tourney here and there possibly. Looking forward to meeting his house as well.

See you all soon!

Lil update. by Cro)Deadman, July 10

So concerning Friday night,it some pretty good.

We first off went to this Festival that had this Tribute to Gibonni (one of most influential Croatian singers) and drank some beer ate some fish...just havin some fun,but it was kinda lame there so me and this one friend of mine decided to go to Split to have some fun,it was kinda dissapoininting to see only two of us of like 13 of us go,and ofcourse us two had no car so we had to take the bus ... FML.

So when we finally arrive at this destionation Hemingway,a kinda preppy disco I already had more then half liter of vodka in me and suddenly my memory gets foggy as fuck.

The only things I remember I tried to start a fight twice, unsucessfully :-(,of one which was due to this cute Polish girl,I can't really remember was she cute cuz I was so wrecked but I think she was,and her boyfriend came to talk to me,I just looked at him for like 4-5 seconds without saying a word and he took off without ever returning while she stood around and talked to me.

Basically I acted like a real asshole and I kinda felt sorry for it the day after.

I'm pretty sure by the end of the night I had ~1L of vodka in me.And as the topping on the end when we got into the bus we actually feel asleep and woke up in a diffrent city,so instead of driving for 45 minutes we drove for 1hr45 mins :-(.

Cliff notes:got drunk,didn't manage to get in a fight,didn't get laid,epic fail.

Pokerwise NL100 seems kinda soft, the fish are bigger and regs are more predictable I think my style works really good against both of the named categories,so im content.

I woulda posted graph and stats but unfortunately my new comp is in the repair and im using my 7 yr old one which doesnt have shit.

Well,peace people!

Day 10 - Slight change of plans by Oxy, July 09

Hey guys,

Here's the plan:

I'm getting my new 24" monitor tomorrow, on which I'll be able to 6-table comfortably while browsing on my laptop (which should arrive in 2-3 weeks). However, I only want to play the big tournaments, the guaranteeds on Stars. Therefore, I'll play a mix of 2-3 tournaments with 3-4 cash games, 6-max.

The idea is I can play more continuously, i.e. not get bored if I'm only playing 1 tournament, and not see it as a waste of time if I bust out of the big money after having invested 4-5 hours. Hopefully I maximize profit in this way.

Wish me luck, this starts tomorrow!

Poker > Summer Job? Hope so by Critterer, July 09

Right well basically i lost all appeal for poker for aaaaaaaages. Since my sicko downswing in like november ive barely even played.

Now however im back home from uni for 3 months and my dad is like you need a job blahblahblah and tbh hes right, im broke as fuck.

I figure though, i can earn as much from poker at nl25 as i could working a job, so what im intending to do while i search for other jobs is play 4 hours of poker a day, 2x 1000 hand sessions 6 tabling. Should work out decently, if i'm able to sustain this for a prolonged period (20k hands) im just gunna be like fuck it ill do this instead of getting a job.

So far so good anyway.

3 sessions done

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/aae95809b559446e93cbb23b0659a9f3.jpg

BR at like 537 since i moved up pretty early, moved up at ~14 buyins for nl25, straight from nl5, skipped nl10 completely cos i hate that limit.

Anyway gl hf
