in the 4th shittiest state ever...by eightfourO, July 09
...again.
Thats right, i'm in Elk City, Oklahoma. This is a fun little town though... I def won't be hitting up the casino's this time, fuckin indians scalped me last time i was here, bastards. Just playing the 'ole poker stars. =*(
come back to Texas... it just ain't the same since u ran away, and you moved to memphis...
song goes something like that. i don't know.
sry for such a nasty post, i'll be back after this 3 hour long grind session.
Book Recommendation: Elements of Poker
I've done my fair share of reading poker texts with a strong focus on strategy books. I unfortunately can not say any of those has highly impacted my game. Despite focusing mostly on strat books, the only books I can recommend are Harrington's series and now Tommy Angelo's Elements of Poker. (I suppose I'd recommend Barry's Ace on the River b/c he's a sick hero and it has no strat at all - it's just about Vegas and how he's a degen). I've had the Angelo text on my shelf since I pre-ordered it from Amazon and just now cracked it open during my recent flight to Vegas. Already I feel like it's going to impact my game and bottom line. It by no means is a strategy book, but actually is more of a study on tilt and minimizing the time at the table we play less than our best game instead of focusing on improving our game when we're at our best. Many of the anti-tilt and stop-loss concepts are not new but it's really putting it in terms that I can apply and use to convince myself to end sessions when I'm not bringing my A game. It's too early to tell, but it's been a very refreshing read so far and has left me very optimistic about the potential impact it will have on my bottom line simply by shortening the time I play under conditions that are less than optimal.
Other notes.
- Vegas trip should be the last distraction from heavy grinding/study for some time. I said this before the Vegas trip but Myth making the FT and another friend playing the ME after satting in for $7.50 were reason enough alone to sneak out there for a couple days even during double FPP week.
- I may look for a student - not for the profit but as with other areas of study, the best way to really understand something is to be able to teach it. I think it's also a good way to revisit things I presently take for granted. This is not high on my list and I've definitely run good to have many solid players on my contact list in order to get plenty of discourse in. That said if any one wants to chat strat / set hand & hour goals / etc send me a PM - no harm in adding more accountability on my study.
- Reducing tables in play: End of day profit is trivial at this point and the real focus during the grind is improving my A game and maintaining my A game longer while I play.
- Starting to play/study more MTT. At least 1 day a week (usually during the weekends) will be reserved for this. I haven't started playing the 215 Sundays yet but with some success Sundays will probably become mtt day for me. The longterm target is to make myself an attractive potential stakee for some fishy live events within a year - or have a resume large enough to justify taking on the variance myself in these massively +EV opportunities.
...... my self esteem is lower than it was two days ago!
>.<
it was kind of like, play 10% of hands, get aces/kings 5 times a session, see 1 flop, get a set flopped under me, go allin preflop with ak vs qq, lose, go allin with qq vs ak, lose, and then tilt off my last 5 dollars and quit for the day
i guess if this has a major negative psychological effect on me i shouldnt be playing, right?
i wanna give a short review of the last sessions ...
some are NL50 at end it is Nl100

[b]OLD text from 9th JULY
thats probably only about 30K hands or so
as u see i had a losing session today
but i am not worried much ...
i may have butchered 2-3 hands being 170BB deep but u cant always win every session ,)
and i am confident in my game for the most part.
most money i lost today was
AQ vs AK on AQK flop LP raise vs BB 3 bet .... i had AQ and LP raises i 3 bet he flats and flop is AKQ ....
well what can u do here ? i guess nothing but stack off vs normal villian ...
that was - 100$
then i had QQ vs TT on T43 flop ....
i could have folded here since he 4 bet small...
he bets i 3bet he 4bets small i shove ... this is 43 or a set always imo ... but somehow i called since i had a note " stupid donk" on him
lol i should take better notes in future ...
-100
and then i overplayed my Nutflush on a paired board being 175bb deep ...
-175$
I can't be the only one who finds that funny. Coincidently some girl decided not too hang out with me today because the weather was to cold for sunbathing. I'm ok with that, because I can see the irony.
This past week has been pretty unaccomplished. I've gone deep in many tournaments, but haven't scored anything big. However, Stars is doubling all the guaranteed prizepools, so I'm going to attempt to take something down within the next few days. I don't know whether I'll be able to play Satuday, since my girlfriend and I are going clubbing, but I'll try my best to play some games in the morning.
I should be getting my 24" monitor tomorrow. I'm having trouble dealing with delivery companies; sometimes I feel the people working there are complete fucking retards. FedEx has generally been good, but Purolator and DSL are just plain fucking stupid. Purolator didn't deliver my package because "they didn't know the buzz-code in the lobby of my apartment building" and thus they required an "Address Correction" -- uhh, what? How hard is it to look around, beyond what is written in your manual, and think for yourself? There is giant panel in the lobby that lists everyone's code next to their name. I apologize to anyone who works for Purolator, FedEx, DSL, or any shipping company, but this is ridiculous. I'm not concerned with waiting for my monitor another day; I'm simply amazed at the sheer stupidity of the situation.
Anyway, I know I haven't been concentrating enough of my efforts on learning better tournament play. I have been watching some CR videos, but I should really focus on every single hand in the HoH books, and I need to start chipping up better in the early stages of tournaments (something Obender seems very good at).
On a final note, I'm finished with my period, but I still see scarring on the tip of my dick. This really sucks (or doesn't, rather): my girlfriend and I used to be long distance, and we wouldn't fuck for as long as two months. I thought that was the worst that could happen. I was wrong - there's nothing worse than being around a horny girl knowing YOU can't have sex. The past four days have been so painfully long...
ok this is the first chance i've had to blog since busting the main event at the end of level 3 in day 1.
I had an easy starting table so I was very lucky indeed, i folded KK to a 4bet in the first level - a guy made it 300 i made it 1100 and he very quickly 4bets it up to 4100 i thought about it for about a minute or so and then was just like well easy table and I don't know where I'm at. Obv he had K4s but I Can't be annoyed at my fold cos i had an easy table and I just didn't know where I was at in the hand.
Anyway my bustout hand - I'm on 21000 blinds are at 150/300.
A 20k stack raises up to 1100 in hijack, right next to him in the CO a guy makes it 3600 with 50k behind, on the button a crazy aggro guy makes it 10700 so there I am in the SB thinking the CO guy has a pretty good hand but the button is probs pretty weak and I'm just hoping for a hand, of course I look down at AKs and tank and ship my last 21k in. It folds to the CO who says "I probably have the 2nd best hand" and mucks his AQ, the button then says "Well I can't possibly fold sorry" and calls and turns over K8o.
J73
he starts to count up some chips to pay me off, I then say to him "Wait just one second" turn T, river 8.
GG
Damn if I won i'd been on 50k with only one relatively good player left at my table (the CO in this hand).
Grrrr ok well i'm gonna grind out some online/live cash i've had enough with tournaments until next world series lol.
other tournament bustouts
1500 nl built up to 11k, lost 8k JJ vs AJ then rebuilt to 8k and lost when i reshoved bb blind into AK i had 87 as it turns out. (blinds were like 200/400/50 or something)
1500 limit shootout. I get 3 handed with humberto and another really good online tournament player "goleafgo" if anyone knows him, anyway we get heads up with him having alot more chips and battle it out for 4 hours, at one point i had a 23k to 4k chip lead but to no avail he won and played really well so....
got arrested for possession, paraphernalia, intent to distribute, yada yada yada. fuck my life, etc. trying to figure out how to fuck these cops over and get off this. They may not have had reasonable cause, not to mention they went through close bags in my car which is illegal, as well as going in places not visible on the initial search without reasonable cause. fuck those dudes forreallll
Have you guys checked out the new season of Weeds? The first few were ok but the newest episode (4) was pretty entertaining. The best parts of the episode was when the dad kept referring to poker terms to describe his life.
paraphrasing some of the funny parts
"Bubby was a cooler in my life."
"Oh and a tip for you Shane. Don't ever play poker. You're 'duh duh' is an obvious tell."
Since my last post here 3 Months ago i didn't touch poker till some days ago b/c i just didnt have any time to spare. Summer Break is almost there and I really want to get some poker going in that time. I've been really lucky these last days and my BR is now ready to hit some nl10 o/ *cheering sound from the audience*
I also tried playing some of these $0.5 - $2 bi tourneys with 2000GP. And i have to say that i suck! i am about even with the money in tournaments, but i just play way to few hands i guess. In most tourneys i stay in pretty long, but that is because i probably fold more hands pf than anyone else there! But i decided to keep a little space on my screen free for some tournament play to figure it out!
I am still at Titanpoker but was wondering if there might be some better site to share my fishy money with the other fish in the sea @ NL10! As i looked through a lot of forum threads most of u seem to be playing on PS. I made an account there which i havent used for about 2 years, probably longer, can i just open a new one there to get some bonus, rakeback etc.? I am totally clueless about this stuff so any recommendations are very welcome .
I've started the day as finished yesterday. I was playing confidently but suckouts happend again and again. I took a little breakfast break and was thinking about my game and decided to play only on 3 tables instead of 4. And it worked. I had enough time to observe players, and think about important decisions. I won back my 2 buyins I lost yesterday and won another 2. And now I will watch the new WPT episode.

on to poker. i've been playing some 100nl headsup again. i've played
quite some of it earlier this year and some last year but now i haven't
played for a long period and i'm picking it up. enjoying how big the
upswings are if you run good. though today i hit the first bumps
in the road.
this opponent was really agressive and i think his opening range and
calling ranges pf were good. however he 3bet a massive amount. and he
was extremely agressive post flop with big bets.
he was kind of running me over, because in response i tightened up
a bit and was basically 3 betting him back with some higher cards
and calling his 3bets with those willing to get my stack in with
any medium TP. unfortunately i kept flopping undercards no draw.
when i made a stand with air i got raised everytime so that didnt
work out either.
in this hand i shoved A5 for value and because i didnt want to give
freecards. when he called i thought he had some middle pair.
i was tilting a little shortly after this match. cause of a combination
of him pushing me around with constant raises, me flopping nothing
and getting it in and getting crushed
but he left as soon as he was +2bi to me and i think, the way it
was going i was really +EV. definetely after i figured out what he
was doing and getting some insight in what he was calling down with/
raising with.
next opponent made everything up to me. at first he was running good
and beating me out of more money. then i got some back, and we got
pretty deep stacks. as you can see in this hand, i'm not that comfortable
with HU deep stacked so after some time i asked him to play on a new table.
when we were 3bi deep, i think. he agreed and i got another 2bi off him there.
though when we just started it he was quickly up 1bi.
i do enjoy the challenge of playing deeper, but the swings are pretty big
for my bankroll at the moment and though i'm interested i think its not
wise at the moment.
in the last 2 hands i was contemplating shoving/raising on the turn
if you have any idea how i could've played them better let me know.
I was pretty emo yesterday, but after reading some of other peoples blog posts (namely Day[9]') I want to get better, I want to be good at atleast one thing in life. I have so much time to play and the ability to grind long hours, I just need a strong, positive mindset to be able to improve my game.
sunday million stake etc...by hokiehokiehi, July 08
Hey everyone. Was looking for a possible long term sunday million stake. I am a winning 50nl and small winner at 100nl. Although I don't have a lot of posts I have made several transfers with nolan so I can be trusted. Looking to get staked in any of the other Sunday tourneys if possible. PM or post on this thread if interested^^.
Rollin up a stake and goin' to vegas!by Xervean, July 08
Yes thats right the great Xervean has recovered from the land of busto and has built his biggest bankroll in 1.5 years! After many deep meditations on a daily basis and study of the law of attraction... poker and for that matter life in general is much better. Tomorrow I shall begin the cross country road trip to vegas. I dont know who all is still down there, but if there is some kinda big lp gathering i'd like to meet some ppl(although i wont be playing credit card roulette )
Also if someone knows of a good place to stay/ has a place to stay for rent let me know
After I grinded back my way to NL25 I took a shot today again. It started very very well. I was playing my new laggy style which I've played thru like 6k hands at NL10. I've openraised and 3betted a wide range of hands and played premiums aggressively.
Then suddenly every single player started to give me badbeats.
The worst hands I called allin with was sets. If I had a set villain got a straight or flush. If I got a straight villain got a set, boated on the turn or river. Obviously if I went allin on the flop with two pair, villain called me with TPNK and turn paired the board. Shortstacks called and reraised me with A-rag against my pocket pairs, and obv hit those aces.
Maybe ppl relized that I'm playing very loose, because I was raising and calling 3bets with a wider range then usually. But I can say I wasn't on tilt even with those beats I got.
The first key hand was (no HH) when I was on the button with 250BB, smallblind got a note: can't fold pocket pairs, and shortstacker bigblind with around 70BB. I got AA in my hand, and everybody folded around. I raised 3,5BB, SB called and BB reraised me with a betpot. I wanted to play hads-up so I pushed allin. SB folded, BB called (obv). Flop came 5 7 A rainbow, turn 3, river K. I was about to celebrate... when BB showed 64o. Go cry, emo kid.
Ok, np, I grinded back my lost money, when a guy came to the table and doubled up on the first hand he played. But since I was playing on four tables I didn't see the action. I've tried to observe the new player and he seemed loose passive, calling and raising randomly.
And then, that hand came, and I got enough:
