Soah's case

Ok, so I wasn't sure if I should post it or not but I don't thing anyone would mind.

So I came across this news story on a Polish newspaper's website. It must bo about Soah. Here's the link:

It's obviously in Polish so here's a translation:

"Men who kidnapped a Dane were arrested.

Court arrested Tomasz S. and Michal W. for two months. Both are accused of kidnapping a Danish citizen and trying to enforce a ransom. They're facing 10 years in prison.

On Wednesday, 23rd of April, police in Kielce got information about a Danish citizen that was said to be kidnapped during his visit to Poland. Kidnappers demanded a $20,000 ransom. Policemen from Kielce quickly established the address, where the Dane was supposedly kept.

Because of the real danger to the life of the kidnapped, police decided to intervene immedietaly. In the mentioned location, they found Tomasz S. 19yr old told them that he's a poker player and plays mainly online. He got into poker when he met a player nicknamed "Dusiciel". He used to borrow money from him that he later used to play. In exchange for that, he would give back information about other players met during the game. "Dusiciel" was mostly interested in their finances.

One of such persons was a Danish citizen and Tomasz S. used to know him before. In the past, he used to visit him abroad, and lately invited him to Poland. On 22nd of April they were supposed to meet "Dusiciel" to play some poker in Warsaw. But when they met, Tomasz S. and the Dane were tied up and intimidated by "Dusiciel" an a few unknown men. In exchange for release they demanded $20,000. Tomasz S. said also, that he was released the following day, but he didn't know what happened with the Dane.

Police from Kielce forwarded the information about the kidnapping to their colleagues from the criminal department. On the same dame, police from Warsaw established who is the man under the alias "Dusiciel". On Friday, Michal W. was caught on the street. Police suspected that the 29yr old could have a weapon with him. They also knew that he used to practice martial arts for a long time. "Dusiciel" was taken by surprise and had no chance to escape.

The kidnapped man returned to Denmark and immedietaly contacted local police to confirm that he was kidnapped in Poland.

Police established that the version presented by Tomasz S. doesn't really correspond with the truth. Because of that, both the 19yr old and Michal W. were arrested for kidnapping and enforcing a ransom."

Yup but it's also possible that the other guy was actively involved as well. Police is now investigating this I guess. But both of them were arrested.

btw 10 years for kidnapping is a RIDICULOUS sentence, its a crime comparable and sometimes worse than murder, how on earth a stupid retard get involved in such a serious crime for that petty amount of money (kidnaps ransoms are millions of dollars) and get caugh in less than a week... its beyond me how stupid these people were.

wtf guys, I completely agree with baal. think what his family could get through (I suppose they didn't really know what was going on he got free), being held captive can be devastating to some weaker (less resistant) people. It also creates a situation where people will make hasty, big decisions like trying to escape with really low chances of survival simply because they're afraid to lose their life if they don't do anything. Same goes for someone trying to save someone beloved. Kidnaping someone creates so much mess it surely should be punished harder.

Then you'd agree it's not that insane that something like this can happen in this world.

Because you seem to think that a singular human life is more valuable than the utter destruction of a family and the mental well being of all parties involved. A prolonged stage of uncertainty, mental and emotional anguish and suffering will probably keep a person from doing much for a very, very long time. You're supposed to deal with all that while also working and functioning in the world?

At least death carries with it some kind of finality to it. As opposed to months, or even years, of not knowing what's going to happen to you or your family.

I think the conditions someone was kidnapped in makes quite a bit of difference. You can let your imagination run wild on what types of situations could arise that would qualify as kidnapping but not be all that serious.

Bad example: rape, torture (physical and mental) for years followed by maximum extortion of the person and there family. As with any crime many things factor into the severity of the actions although modern jurisdiction seems to see no difference.

Good example: Father kidnaps his own children after mother wins a custody battle.

It really depends on the situation. I still think that killing is worse then kidnapping though.
