wow durrrr makes tonnes of great folds, i wish they'd show unedited footage of the game so you can get a better feel of the game flow to help understand exactly what gear each player is playing in preceeding those big laydowns

Are you crazy? Do you want every durr-wannabe online to actually succeed in emulating him?

PokerDoc88   Australia. Apr 15 2009 05:22. Posts 3527

no, i want to watch the full game, not some edited piece of shit made viewable and digestable for noobs who have no clue about poker where they only show setups...

PokerDoc88   Australia. Apr 15 2009 05:25. Posts 3527

contrary to your belief that seeing the entire game will improve many duur wannabees, i believe it wouldn't help them one little bit.

btw I didn't really know who Sam Simon was before the last episode, so I googled him. well it turns out that from 1984 to 1991 he was married to Jennifer Tilly, who is now dating.. well the person who's on Simon's immediate right. what a coincidence, seriously.

Why doesn't anyone else find this as awkward/hilarious as I do?

having a bunch of noobs enjoy poker is the whole fucking reason you can even have the chance of being a poker pro

people that keep being wankers about people who suck at poker or just play for entertainment are putting me on a seriously lolwtf r u retarded tilt lately. I guess it doesn't matter much if you have that attitude here, but just thinking about having it spill outside of the forums is balls-out tilting.

+400,000

Not in response to this exchange, but in general I am surprised how many people can become successful at poker without understanding how the poker economy works.

I can calm your feelings by telling you that Phil and Jennifer regularly go over to Simon's house for poker home games. There are random poker shows/documentary/ibetyou clips of Tilly/Simone/Phil talking about it saying it doesn't bother them.

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the time

hey wait a minute, calm down there

when i say 'noobs' i mean people who actually don't have any idea about poker, not some young aspiring amateur trying to learn, but literally some guy who is just flicking through the channels and stumbles upon the show. i'll go out on a whim and say the majority of these shows' viewers are indeed these kinds of people, i estimate there's only about 100-200k regular poker players who watch these shows, and obviously the producers wouldn't bother making a show if its only going to have that small number of viewers.

i have no complaints when they televise tournament poker and noobify it for the general population by cutting out "boring" hands and including explanations on the rules of texas holdem poker, because they feed a lot of misinformation about how to play cash game poker and the increasing blinds force action for players they otherwise would never take in a cash game, and hence makes a more exciting show to watch for said "noobs".

but when you're televising a heads-up cash-game match between two of the best players in the world, and televise plo included in said match (which most non-poker players even have a clue exists), you'd think you could make your show target the audience that cares (us) better by including 'boring' hands where they raise and fold and steal each others blinds. i guarantee you 90% of people who watch that show will just be looking at duuuur and thinking 'wtf why don't u go all in u has a flush' or some stupid donk thing like that, the brilliance of the situations are completely lost on them, while for the 10% of viewers who actually would garner something interesting out of the show (us) don't REALLY get the full picture because the producers are trying to target the show at a casual audience.

if you don't believe me, just listen to the generally shitty commentary and how much they emphasize that 'this is REAL CASH these are NOT CHIPS these guys are playing with!! =O'. watch how they talk about 'this is the first hand of the show' and you can clearly see them stacking chips from an earlier pot. 'omg second hand and its another sick set-up!'. personally i find it really lame to watch a show edited like this.

yeah
PA vs durrr
2.5 million on the table

sounds super boring

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - KapolLast edit: 15/04/2009 23:39
