Just saw the fight and tbh feels like:
1.JJ got completely demolished
2.Cody gave TJ the fight by not instantly getting in his face in the 2nd round ... I mean sure you hate the guy but taunting and making fun of him doesn't really help you there.... TJ got lucky that there was no time 1st round or he would've lost most of the time - this deserves a rematch since its a pretty close fight - Cruz can wait a bit
3. GSP- Bisping is w/e since neither will keep the belt ... whole situation is really weird since they brought back GSP for a huge PPV, yet they didn't promote the event that well.. makes no sense ... maybe GSP could win vs Rockhold but thats about it (Whittaker prob has advantage in fights though I guess) |

I am glad GSP won but I can't see him winning against the top 5 MW. Even though he was jacked, hes much more of a WW. |

I'm not the best MMA better, and i'm biaised as a french canadian, but i would favor GSP. Here is my opinion:
Reasons to bet GSP:
Bisping is bigger, but they actually have the same reach.
GSP is a special king of talent. Usually, when a special kind of talent moves up, he just tears apart people from the higher division. Just look at what Gastelum did to Kennedy. Or what RDA did to Neil Magny. But GSP is an even more special athelete than both of those guys. And i think Bisping is over rated. We're talking about one of the best champion ever, fightning someone who shouldn't be champion.
GSP is a very calculated guy. He isn't a Conor type of person who takes random fights he can't win. He never accepted fightning Silva. If he took this fight, GSP himself thinks he is a favorite to win it, i'm sure of that.
If this was a pure boxing match, i would clearly give the edge to Bisping. If this was a pure grappling match, i think Bisping could stuff GSP's take downs. But GSP isn't a one trick pony like Maia. He is dangerous both on the feets AND with his take downs. His timing is genius. I think this will be the key to GSP's victory. Be threatening on the feets, and come up with take downs out of nowhere to secure rounds.
The last times Bisping fought good wrestlers, it was Kennedy and Sonnen. Both of them beat him. And GSP is way better than those fighters.
GSP has a big home town advantage. GSP is huge in canada.
Reasons to bet Bisping
Ring rust is a thing. GSP claims he is better than ever, but i think you can never ignore a 4 years ring rust.
Bisping probably has more power than what GSP is used to, and GSP has been KOed before.
In theory, this is a good stylistic matchup for bisping. |
Iol those are the worst rasons ever to bet GSP besides that he didnt do well vs good wrestlers before, however this was pre USADA, and GSP has never fought post-USADA, that combined with the fact that GSP has been retired for ages and smaller its an easy bet on Bisping
|
What did you say?
I think it was clear early on Bisping was super carefull about take downs, which is probably main reason GSP won r1.
r2 when Bisping started being less carefull, GSP started landing those take downs. Bisping then went back in carefull mode and got caught. |
LOL did you watch the fight? GSP looked like shit, incredibly slow, he was breathing heavy from the get go, gassed, his top control was so shit he got mauled from the bottom, the only reason why he won is because Bisping is also garbage who barely manages to beat an old as fuck Hendo ffs.
Even then in a rematch anybody with half a brain would snap bet Bisping, these two are going to fall faster than Silva in the division rankings in a near future.
That being said, the fight was entertaiing and cool as old times but skill wise was the lowest championship fight in a long time. |
Must be a weird thing to see everything in only absolutes

Rockhold seems pretty inconsistent in his performance. |

I don't know why people sleep on Rockhold. He overlooked Bisping and he started slow against Branch, but other than that, he has destroyed his competition so far. |

I don't think GSP has much of a chance against RockHold.
If Bisping was able to make GSP a bloody mess from his back, imagine what RockHold can do to him. RockHold's BJJ is really good.
RockHold's wrestling is also very solid, won't be easy to take it to the ground.
And GSP isn't known as a guy with KO power.
But i think that if GSP does defend his belt, he pretty much has to begin with Whitaker. And i think that's one of his toughest matchup.
Whitaker has shown he has amazing TDD. And his standup is probably the best right now at MW. |

I'm not saying GSP is better, I'm saying he might have a chance against him..whereas Whittaker will simply destroy him 10 out of 10 times. |

1) Sad about JJ, though I like Rose as well. I think JJ comes back tho.
Hope they do Rose vs Andrade in the mean time, and give JJ a tune-up or two to get back into contention.
2) Hm, I dont think I want TJ vs Garbrandt 2 at once... Cruz doesn't have that much time left, let's get him in there again if he can get past Rivera. Or if they can do DJ/TJ that's cool too.
3) Rockhold seems like a bad matchup... He's even bigger than Bisping isn't he? And his ground game is insane from top. If the fight ends up there... not good.

I don't think his top control was shit at all. He just looked a bit too small/short to control him properly. |

He was considered the best wrestler in MMA and possibly the best top position too, and he got wrecked from the bottom and then Bisping simply stood up

He did take Bisping down though. He got cut with and elbow in top position... wouldn't use the word mauled. GSP couldn't step over the leg and probably realised he wasn't getting anywhere. I guess theres a difference if you take someone down out of nowhere vs punching or kicking and then get top position.
Garbrandt got too cocky after brief success, showboating is the pitfall of this sport. Who can keep it together when theres blood has the advantage. Jon Jones pounced on DC when he sensed blood. Some guys have a knack for finishing dudes. Others showboat and go for decisions.
First Darren Till and now that Brazilian guy... holy shit those guys are like brick houses. Hendrix is a wash, landed a couple of lefts and then nothing. Worse than nothing, couldn't make weight etc. |

I'm pretty sure GSP's eye was already cut and he could barely see by it due to the blood when taking down Bisping, which is kinda huge |

Bisping was surprisngly tired by round 2, I bet on him for his insane cardio and the guy shows up like Demian Maia's last performance. Never liked Bisping, I hate him now more than ever haha |

They fought at a very fast pace, and Bisping was clearly the fresher fighter of the 2 |

not 100% sure, but i think i disagree.
What's GSP's road to victory against RockHold? I just see none. If GSP had poor top control against Bisping and got all blooded up in 10 seconds, i'm afraid about what RockHold will do to him on the ground,
I don't think GSP can beat Whitaker.
Whitaker hits harder than Bisping, has better striking, and is harder to take down. But i do think its possible. |
