I get that but they can get behind political or safety reasons or whatever else the government tells them to do behind those subjects, going out directly comparing freedom of speech to people's feelings getting hurt is something quite different

The news have been saying literally "the N word" instead of nigger as it were Voldemort, they have caved to the PC police instead of simply acknowleding that what is offensive of a word its in its context not the phonetics, so yeah they have been caving to unreasonable political correctess since a long time ago.

You must be new to the Peterson phenomenon. Might be funny to you, but that doesn't mean it's just a meaningless joke. Could it be that the person who created this one picture doesn't really give a shit? Sure. But you seem to think that because some people create memes it means it has no meaning at all. It's the opposite really. This culture war debate matters a lot to these folks, and yes, some of his fans genuinely believe that he is symbolically fighting dragons in the Underworld when he has public debates against liberals. It's kind of the whole point of his philosophy, jeez Spitfiree!

I know they don't believe it, it's just funny that so many of them acted as if it was the case regardless...

You mean that dumb people overvalue the matter of something and because it matters to them I should hold those same principles and view it that way as well? If I were to do so my mind would explode the moment I enter the Internet...

I get that there're people that probably view this as a bashing on Cathy Newman, those people are simply narrow minded... hell it might even be the creator himself, still though, who cares?

And actually, it's fair to say that there is some gold to be found. I think there is a lot of potential for the Big 5 personality stuff. Give the personal authoring a shot. I would say it has helped me.

Actually, I have a suggestion:

Buy "Discipline and Freedom" by Jocko Willink. More gold and I think you will like it.

I don't know I just did. You just seemed like a perfect candidate to be a Peterson fanboy. I probably would have laughed if Santafairy posted similar. I was a fan of Peterson too before I got more educated. He's got some good psychology stuff, an ok grasp on existentialism (not really but it is accessible and passible), some rousing words on a fair amount of self-help stuff but he starts getting into this religious, mythological, symbolism stuff and all this other stuff and it is like what the fuck mate? I doubt he has even read and certainly not understood most "post-modern" thinkers. He butchers Derrida. He mangles Nietzsche at points. He is no messiah and that is for sure. I gotta go though. Check out Jocko. He's paleo and fasts and has helped me to just DO and get after it.

I don't really understand this "moron" and "dumb people" business that you and Baal throw around tbh. I think we have a different understanding of intelligence. I don't think they are overvaluing it, I think they are valuing it proportionally to what it is being sold as. I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence though. It's just a matter of making sense of the world via a certain narrative. Hell, I think JP is supposed to have an IQ of 160, so clearly intelligence (as we typically think of it, which I think is flawed) doesn't preclude you from holding ridiculous views.

I'm not telling you how to view it, I'm saying you're probably not aware of how those who have been following him for months view it. It's not the bashing that's sad, it's that they genuinely think JP is some kind of archetypal hero. Of course this one particular pic isn't the best one to demonstrate that since it appears all too silly.

did not get into all of that yet. I started with the shallow stuff / most viewed videos the interview... and the episode were some transgender people /leftists (?) going full retard mode trying to sabotage his speech at campus or something... Then I saw a lot of his general life advice / psycho-babbel videos that I thought were pretty interesting. Thanks for the tip thou

That justification of following someone because its being sold properly is extremely dangerous to me. Its how you start cults regardless if its the mormons, scientology or the nazis. I can understand the social pressure once it becomes massive throughout your whole society, however this is not the case with Peterson. If you blindly follow someone's views without questioning them you're pretty much a dumbass in my eyes. IQ is a whole different story. I've said this multiple times but the guy that invented the first standardized IQ test has had a research spreading through 50 years of a excerpt of kids with high IQ coming to the conclusion that success/prosperity/happiness isnt measured by your IQ at the end of the day and there is a "Soft cap" at the average levels where other factors come into play. I have a little bit different understanding on people being dumb. Rather than using it as an opposite to intelligence I view it as actions that lead to negative impact on society without logical arguments behind it. If you'd consider it as "thing you know" or "analytical thought" then 99.9% of us are idiots, which in a way is cool as well

Its kind of obvious by now that Peterson has contradicted himself on quite a few occasions for example, so praising him as an idol doesn't make any sense (well obviously not the only reason but to say the least). He presents a lot of valid arguments and stresses out the development of society, which should be done at this point, as the alt-left, in my opinion, is the biggest threat to western societies at the moment and is the path to authoritarian regimes even though people don't even think about it. Whats even worse is that the academic world doesn't even open its mind to those ideas, as he is instantly labeled as some homophobic sociopath in the media...

The Canadian tutor chick scandal is a very, very concerning case on so many different levels. Its the most vivid example of laying the stones to the path of authoritarian ideas

IQ is to your intellect what your BMI is to your physique. It has a lot of validity to it when talking about groups, but for individuals it's kinda meaningless - although extreme scores will show something for individuals too.

Might seem that way if you have a hard-on for Nietzsche, until you realize he's just using him to sneak in religion by the backdoor. And if you're an atheist, don't worry, you're just deluded, you're actually a Christian if you don't go around raping and killing others. Tbh I'd rather people blindly follow anyone whose worldview isn't one gigantic reactionary conspiracy theory.

It has a lot of validity only insofar as you define intelligence as a predictor of success in the precise type of society that we live in. We haven't discovered mechanisms of intelligence or a 'center of intelligence' in the brain, nor did we discover the 'principles of general intelligence' in the Ether. We've designed the tests and we can't dissociated ourselves (our intentions, our aims) from the design. With that considered, I think our notion of intelligence is a hollow one tied to our own narrow conception of what constitutes success. 'Success' here means the ability to perform -- to climb dominance hierarchies and obtain power over others (the power to consume, what else?). I say "our own narrow conception", but it isn't our own, it's imprinted from an early age by our socio-culture, we have never made a free choice to decide it.
