why don't you state clearly what your idea of objectification is and why it's a problem?

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

Because it's easier to just put words in peoples mouths, and then pretend to be some morally superior person

Wait...

So you guys are against a rehabilitation center for men that have experienced sexual abuse and violence?

Don't believe that sexual abuse and violence towards males exists?

or???

I think I am bringing up too many topics in this thread.

Oh well, fuck it.

-Objectification of women topic. Really complex. I have more to say. Have liked the discussion.

-Crimes in Indonesia. Nike, Apple, etc. Awesome topic (biased opinion). Hard to discuss both.

-New topic of PTSD rehabilitation. Male sexual abuse and violence. Awesome topic. Definitely resonates with me and have a lot to discuss. Especially if many out there think it is a joke? Thankfully I never experienced sexual abuse/violence as a child but I work with people who have and it is definitely a real thing. Kudos to Sweden for acknowledging it and attempting to treat it with care. From my experiences, it is mind boggling how much violence, sexual abuse and sexual violence stems from childhood stuff. Vicious vicious cycles. I am glad more info on that is coming to light.

how is watching paid porn actors objectifying them.

they're accepting a contract that says people will view me doing sex in exchange for money.

i understand that a high % of porn actors probably have addiction or other emotional issues, but i'm not sure if that means the industry in itself is inherently wrong.

i really don't understand how a man can even entertain the idea that he's objectifying a woman when his mind goes caveman for a few seconds and he catches himself staring at some girls tits. it's clearly a biological thing and it will happen to any man with a reasonable sex drive.

obviously you shouldn't try to stare and most normal people who catch themselves doing it stop, but acting like it's a learned behavior is ridiculous.

Chinese sweatshop workers accept contracts as well, does that justify exploiting them until they commit suicide? In fact i suppose there were many in ancient greece that said it was ok to go around sexually abusing young boys (catamites) if they agree to it for food and money. The arguments used by those people are very similar to the one you give.

The solution for the above problems is to remove conditions for which exploitation can occur. Pornography is objectification, it presents human beings as sex objects-that much is obvious. It's true for the movies, and media in general as well. Both men and women would have more of their humanity intact without it.

But yes there is nothing wrong with feeling physically attracted to women. There's a big difference between that and objectification.

Everyone is cool with lost 18-19 yr old women getting lured and coerced and trapped into doing escalatingly degrading pornography for money?

Speaking up about it equates to not having balls?

What the fuck?

Where am I?

Hmmm, perhaps people are feeling attacked for watching pornography?

Bitch, don't kill my vibe. Bitch, don't kill my vibe.

I know it fucks up my high to think about that amateur getting pounded and jizzed on not as a pornstar fantasy but as a real human being in real life who many times ran away from home upon finding the first appealing craiglist ad and is now trapped with having to agree to do more every video just to make ends meet.

I wish more men women were like this gorgeous and titillating brick, we need to lobby for more objectification of men and women

it is a good thing to have and of course sexual abuse towards males exists, it was just a funny comment to make given the context of the discussion.

to be honest i haven't thought much about the morality of porn or objectifying women in general, but sex is such a basic part of our nature i don't see why focusing on/promoting that aspect of a person would be a bad thing? the porn industry surely has issues creating an environment conducive to exploitation like stroggoz mentioned (differentiating exploitation from objectification here) but i don't think it's that obvious that getting rid of it wouldn't create more dilemmas than it would solve. like there's some chance the girl in the last porn you watched is a drug addict whose habit you're contributing to by 0.000001%, on the other hand you didn't stab your boss/girlfriend/whoever out of frustration. i think this is getting away from your OP about objectifying women but it's hard for me to see anything inherently wrong about that so i don't know how to respond.

I hear you brother.

Edit: Think about the objects men name for their car/computer/tool, etc. You'll hear, oh she's a beaut, she never let me down, etc. You don't see this literal objectification with women towards men.

Yea because you know.. those men don't treat their cars like gods and take better care of them then they do of themselves. It's not men objectifying women lol, it's men humanizing (is that a word?) objects.
