gryzzly you are moronic. DC is the better wrestler, but jones is a phenomenal wrestler who would have had a very high ceiling in amateur wrestling had he not quit at 19 to raise a kid. still not as good as DC though.

Jones first takedown was off a caught kick, even less impressive that he was able to get DC down than gustafsson was able to get him down in the first round. after that he had no success wrestling til the 4th round when he was clearly the much fresher fighter. he had a great strategy filled with brilliant tactics throughout that left him the less tired man and he capitalized later in the fight. the first and third rounds were very close (but clear jones wins imo) and the 4th sealed the deal.

there were 2 keys to jones winning this fight. one was being fresher at the start of the 4th round. the second was his counter boxing, which DC mentioned in the postfight presser. and if you want a 3rd you can call it heart

vs other opponents who were plodding forwards, jones would back away and use kicks to neutralize their forward movement. DC was moving forward much faster, not really bum rushing but too fast for jones to use kicks cause he would be taken down. so jones added some counter boxing, landing really nice punches as he was moving backwards. these punches were to the body, head, hooks, jabs, straight punches, everything, and i think they did a number on DC over the 3 rounds. they also allowed him to outland DC in the 1st/3rd which gave him the slight edge in those rounds and made him winning the 4th round a fight clinching win

I think another key thing is DC wasn't able to take down Jones at all. I don't think DC had much chances against Jones with 0 take downs. If he were able to take him down, the fight might have gone very differently.

In addition to this, i was surprised to see that Jones seemed to have the advantage in the clinch. I thought DC was the much stronger man and would win in the clinch.

i think the clinch was advantage to DC. jones was stronger and able to control him more than i expected, but DC was landing MUCH better strikes from there. like the best strikes of the entire fight. the 4th round on im kinda dismissing just because it was such a brutal tiring fight and jones was better prepared for that

What are you talking about really?What is the ONE thing that make you think DC is the better wrestler(not the takedowns obviously or the takedown deffence)??

Fk a rematch, bring on Gustafson, only fighter that Jones can't exploit his height and 1 ft+ reach advantage.

That is a tl;dr, but saying Jones is a better wrestler is silly and so is comparing olympic wrestling to mma, they have nothing in common
At the end of the day the height and reach advantage is what mostly won Jones's fight, he just couldn't reach good enough to take him down and Jones is too good to get both of his legs out of position to defend. I even think people underestimated how huge of a difference it makes cause of the fact how big Jones is. That's also why I think Gus is the only contender that stands a chance, he still has a pretty distinct reach disadvantage, but at least its not 30cm
I don't think there are 2 opinions about DC acting pathetic, its also silly to think he didn't, but the again they managed to sell over 750 000 PPVs so a job well done.

@ Daut I think Jones mostly went into clinch to rest a bit since he did the clinches when DC had landed a good strike plus he s so huge even if DC did outstrike him in those he definitely got more tired

I think Cormier really should of used more lateral movement a la Jack Slack, so that he wasn't such an easy target when he tried to close the distance. Jones blasted him every time and that was a big part of why Cormier was so worn out by the 4th round.

Pretty sick Jones outwrestled him. I didn't expect that. I mean I didn't expect Cormier to dominate him or anything, but I expected him to get a few takedowns early in the fight.

I also don't understand this. I really thought Cormier is much stronger physically, but that fight made it seem like the opposite. Usually, when a guy is much taller and the same weight, he is weaker.

its about leverage. jones was leaning all his weight on cormier and essentially resting while cormier is carrying the weight. tires DC out while jones gets a little energy back.

the amazing thing about this fight is that there were 2 very clear rounds (round 2, round 4), and then 3 very close rounds with a likely winner (jones in all of them), but people are acting like it was a pure domination. and in a way it was, jones mentally broke cormier, made the better adjustments, and had the fight continued onwards he would have won round 6,7,8, etc until getting a finish. but the actual fight was much closer than the 49-46 score and people are just not giving DC enough credit here for what he was able to do the first 3 rounds and even in the 5th.

Cormier landed the heavier shots and looked stronger because he was "in his face" the whole fight. He could've taken Jones down had JBJ indulged him into collisions and toss up who could take who down, Cormier is the better wrestler, that's why Jones fought like he did and kept backing down but effectively countering. Jones would probably make adjustments better in a rematch and would probably dominate him now, knowing his actual strength and punching power is. It looked like Jones crushed him because he was talking all that shit the whole promo and kinda fucked himself in a way since people were watching his suplexes on youtube allday, hanging on to his promises that he'd make it look easy and looking at his old wrestling videos. It still looked like your typical Jones fight which made DC look like a fool in fight day, you could hear fans cheering Jones towards the end.

Jones cardio is crazy, I think DCs cardio is pretty good that was such a grueling and tiring style of fight but Jones had still something in the tank in the championship rounds, it was a pretty big mental win being able to defend all of DCs takedowns attempts, DC stopped trying to win the fight in the 5th and went for a moral win taking him down at all costs.

DC's cardio was really much better than i expected,but the mental strenght was not on his side and never been.

I think Jon was pretty nervous at the beginnig of the fight and DC was more relaxed,which i found very strange.
I personally do not want to see this fight again.DC just can not win it in any other way than wrestling and this is not happening as we all found out.

I like Rumble's chances vs Jones. He's got some weird striking + sick KO power, Davis couldn't swarm the guy so he probably has somes serious TDD as well. I don't like Gus in a second fight since I feel Jones benefits a rematch a lot more than him.

I'm not sure how Rumble vs. Gustafsson goes down, but Rumble doesn't have a chance against Jones. Rumble basically offers the same threat to Jones that Glover did, except that Glover has better cardio, better technical boxing, and better BJJ than Rumble.

That said maybe Rumble would not have a chance against Gus, because he can outbox him from outside.
I am still not so sure if Rumble is really that monster or just fought bad guys and looked incredible strong.He will not look so strong against Gustafsson and Jon though.My feeling right now is he is overrated and will lose to Gus and Rashad.
