Not sure if thats actually true. I think they threw in some clever cuts that made it seem more intense e.g. panning the camera to the sky to see a chopper then returning.

Can you give cliffs as to what the last scene meant? Is this "yellow king" guy giving MM clues as to where to look for him or something?

They really don't spoon feed you the details in this show, i'm finding myself having to re-watch scenes to understand them. Good show,

I think it's implied that the Governor tittle or whatever is involved.

1) Chole asks woody harrelson did he ever wonder why the task force was so eager to take the case. The task force was assigned by the governor. Who took interest in the case early.

2) The school where Chole was in at the final scene where he found the stick art stuff that was at the crime scene is an old school that was funded by the governor.

I'm not sure if the yellow king is giving clues or if they're maybe trying to plant a seed in the viewers mind that Chole might be the killer. Hard to tell.

I'm sure there are a bunch of really good breakdowns on the internet, but I'm honestly trying to avoid them. Apparently there is a fictional poem or something that this is possibly based off of, and the last thing I want to do is have this show spoiled by people who have read it and put hours into breaking it down & it's relation to the show. This show is simply way to good for me to mess with the viewing experience with anything beyond speculation from others who simply watch the show as well.

my immediate thought on the final scene was that every suspicion the two black detectives had is true. MM is behind the murders and is orchestrating everything.

its either that or he has been tracking the yellow king (someone high up in law enforcement?) for 8+ years closely and is always 1 step behind. thats how he was in the area of the lake charles murder.

which theory is correct is anyone's guess. i think this is the kind of episode that is better to rewatch after we see the 6th episode cause rewatching it now wont give us a better idea on whats going on

i read two reviews online and they seem to care less about the whodunnit aspect than the storytelling and ramblings of MM. one point i saw brought up in both articles is that cohle's picture of the universe in m-theory is a metaphor for viewers watching his show. we are on the outside looking in at all the pieces of this story that we can rewatch over and over again and although we do watch the show in a linear fashion, we can basically look from the fourth dimension into his three dimensional life and see him at any point in time. its a very Slaughterhouse Five type view of the universe.

i think its ok to post spoilers in here (as long as you dont have inside info on what happens in future episodes).

i dont really think MM is the killer. they just framed it that way and its what jumps out at you. think its far more likely he just became obsessed with the case and did nothing but track it for years.

but as to your point above, IF he is the killer he likely did it for the same reason he kills. to feel alive in some way.


the main reason i dont believe MM is the killer is that he was carrying his "tax man" book when he walked into the house. seemed more like he was investigating not orchestrating.

No way MM is the original killer unless he has some schizophrenia-ish syndrome similar to Tyler Durden, or maybe brainwashed/hypnotized in some way by the Yellow King or whatever. But I highly doubt that.

I would say it's a slight chance he did the latter killing in an effort to draw the attention of the original killer...but it's still far-fetched imo.

My guess is that some supernatural forces are in play.

Great episode, was not expecting what happened in Reggies house. Do we know who the 2 guys interviewing are? Are they FBI or just police? I would be amazed if MM is killer. I think he becomes obsessed with the case and starts trying to solve it himself. As Duat points out above the Yellow King could refer to someone in high authority. Its all really good. I may have to watch this episode later again lol

Also the reason MM is perhaps being very cryptic about the present is because he maybe is close to solving it, and these 2 have been influenced by someone to go after MM to stop him solving it.

i think youre almost certainly right about the original killings, but would not be at all surprised if he did later killings for any reason. think of it this way: a joyless man that thinks the human race should pursue its own extinction starts drinking heavily, disappears for 8 years and is spouting off nonsense that he heard from reggie ledoux 17 years before "time is a flat circle". not to say its likely he killed people, but dont think its at all far fetched.

this is extremely far fetched though. not pizzolatto's style. think he wants to keep everything realistic.

The show reminds me of Frailty with mcconaughey, It starts off with him being questioned by a cop, the story gets told through flashbacks..same gloomy feel, and in the end you discover + Show Spoiler +

that movie is probably the reason he got chosen for this show.
