I think this is the first show which brings antinatalist themes to television. One of the detectives is a pessimist who has read his Schopenhauer and his Zapffe quite clearly from this scene:

Too bad the other detective is insufferable. Looking forward to watching this once I'm done with The Wire.

I think it's great that Harrelson plays a completely different character, this ought to spice things up. How boring would it be if it was just a guy saying " I respect that"

Haven't really looked much into this show besides this thread and watching it but I'm curious as to where they are gonna go with it. Eventually the McConaughey & Harrelson interview bit is going to run out of rope and they both seem too old/out of the loop to really turn back into the main characters without flashbacks.

I think the show is supposed to be an anthology. But we'll have to wait and see i guess .

Sure, they shouldn't both have the same personalities, but it doesn't mean they should be polar opposites... in that scene Woody just seems like the typical Pollyanna imbecile who doesn't like to think very much. He's not challenging his conclusions or anything, just saying "people don't want to hear that shit man, they don't think like that". As if he didn't know it. That scene bothers me because (and you probably guessed this) I'd feel annoyed if someone insisted that I open up and show my true colors and then dismiss me like that. People say they value honesty, but if you're not the type of person who's gonna tell them they're getting up in the morning for a good reason, they'll quickly demonstrate that they don't. I'm hoping he's not as bad as he is in that scene overall.

+1 to "Memories of Murder". Pretty good movie.

he certainly looks like an idiot in that scene... I would have thought you'd enjoy this as a wink from the writers (regarding a religious man's objections to pessimism); regardless, it seemed to me as a realistic dialogue between such people. A traditional guy like that could only react emotionally to such a subject, this was definitely an annoying behavior, but a great scene imo

I would of enjoyed it more if he [Matt McConaughey] had said something with some more bite to close it up. I think it would have been slightly more effective and realistic than his stern resignation. Woody played his role to perfection, I'm actually pretty sure this is how he thinks irl.

Woody Harrelson s a strong supporter of the conspiracy about the illuminati and has been a face to that "community" in a few different movies that i've seen and basically one of the public faces to protect those claims.

Awesome stuff. The show is very consistent, high level every episode.

Couldn't agree more. All 3 episodes have delivered on a very high level so far.

I think something important to consider regarding Loco's criticism is that if everyone liked Schopenhauer it'd make for a boring as shit TV-show. That stuff is not entertaining unless used to provoke some guy who doesn't believe in it.

Very solid series so far. The contrast between the two main characters is entertaining, the back n forth narrative is cool and I also like the slow build up storywise...but I forecast that shit's about to hit the fan and action starts moving faster. The whole look of the show reminds me a little bit on David Fincher's Zodiac. 9.5/10 so far imo.

3rd ep was too slow for me but looks like the 4th is going to be very action packed.

Also the very end of last ep was really creepy and gave me the chills...

An interview about the literary and philosophical influences of Pizzollato for this show (mainly, the character of Cohle). Great to see some of my favorite writers in there as I expected.

i think this show is really good, but it moves a little slow. if you appreciate drama and character development, you will be okay. if you need gun fights and explosions, you will be disappointed.

i give it a 3.5 / 5

i agree with timmy dawg about the 3rd ep.

that guy with the machete and gas mask wandering around has a good omen.

also, how awesome is it that matthew mcConaughey is named one of the sexiest men alive, but woody harrelson is the one big pimpin in the show. also, the present time character he plays is all nasty. hard to believe any woman would be attracted to that. the makeup jobs are done well, i think
