I love sincere videos like this, they're a real boost in confidence and self esteem. It lets people know that there's always someone who's more stupid, lazy, and fucked up with their life decisions than you.

I'm not in a fucked up situation with my life, but, somehow after watching Booth's video, it made me feel better to know that I seem to have it pretty good when compared to that guy.

----------

p.s. Booth said the following after he said he said he had a place to stay at WSOP and has a $100k backing:

"The last 4 years have been so super difficult, and I've had many-a-chances to get my life back together after the UB scandal. ...wipes snot from his nose while making a squishy sound... And I've seemed to fail in every opportunity, which is very concerning."

If I was his backer, I'd not lend him any money, especially after saying that.

his backer is most likely guy laliberte

final paragraphs of booths pokerlisting bio...feel this should be updated

But it was cash games where Booth was repaid for his 14 years of non-stop poker play. Not only did he make enough at the card tables to move into the Bellagio for a year, he befriended - and earned the respect - of some of poker's top players and Las Vegas's richest men.
Phil Hellmuth famously referred to Booth as, "the best unknown player in the world." He's cruised the Mediterranean on Cirque de Soleil founder and friend Guy Laliberte's private yacht and he counts Bobby Baldwin and Johnny Chan among his pals.
But Booth is no Las Vegas wild child. He's moved on from his days at the Bellagio and - for the most part - the carousing of his younger years. Instead, he has settled in Vancouver, where he owns a home and has reconnected with family. He has also purchased a cabin and plans to take a break from his 16-hour daily work schedule to relax several months of the year.

felt trolled watching that video. thought it was common knowledge booth was a degen, so i was really hoping he was going to spend the entire video with some fabrication he made up to explain how hes been so unlucky. once he started crying i had to just stop watching.

Its time to stop thinking like a bitch and think smart like a poker player - ket

What hes doing is a lie.

Right now, he knows his only way to get more money to gamble, is to "come clean" and hope that he gets enough sympathy stakes to keep him in action.

Its not like he would be financially secure if it wasn't for pit games, he was notorious for shooting his load on big bluffs.

Hes said he lost a lot to the UB cheating scandal, but according to ever credible source Mike Matusow, Booth was a huge fish and the games were always build around him anyway.

lol it's completely normal to feel bad for a guy who destroyed himself

we just stand out in this thread because we're surrounded by cynical poker players with black hearts and no soul

This just makes me wonder about these things ethically.

I may be completely wrong but is it correct that a lot of being a degen is not really something you control, but rather ur brain chemistry?

A degenerate is a person who lacks self-control!? And it's not their fault too?! No kidding!

“No one is responsible for what he is nor even for what he does. This is obvious and everyone more or less agrees that it is so. Then why celebrate or denigrate? Because to exist is to evaluate, to emit judgments, and because abstention, when it is not the effect of apathy or cowardice, requires an effort no one manages to make.” - E. M. Cioran

And if this aphorism makes any of you go: "But WTF Loco, of course we're responsible for our actions, so you think this thief shouldn't be punished?!" - or something like that - I suggest you take a philosophy course one of these days. You might want to read this too: http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2008/04/14-03.html

Also, to OP: Why is it hilarious when someone has ruined his life because of an addiction? Strange way to open a thread.

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccountLast edit: 11/06/2012 04:48

lol nice quote

also I wonder if ur a huge degen, just how hard is it to force urself to stay out of action (while u have money available)? Is it similar to trying to not fap for multiple weeks for an average 20yo male with access to the internet? Maybe it's even harder than that? Or maybe its ezpz...I just think its hard to judge someone when I have no frame of reference, I don't feel any need to gamble in the pit at all

lol, it depends on how much there is to stimulate the addiction. I would think the degenerate gambler will feel like gambling more if he is bored and has ease of access to an online site or is close to a casino, and if he has friends there instead of enemies, or if he's craving food/alcohol and has none at home, etc. etc. All has to do with how much of a reward is perceived from acting on your addiction. Similarly, the 20yo won't be able to not jack off if he keeps the same habit because he finds it the most rewarding, but if he sees a bigger reward from not doing it he might be able to easily last much longer by restricting his internet usage and making sure he doesn't stumble upon something sexually arousing.

Even without being a degen, how hard is it to actually change your most common habits? You have to trigger the pleasure centers of the brain somehow in order not to be completely miserable, and your habits are the best way you have found to do it, so changing them can obviously not be an easy task.
