<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Pindarots/11/elkywsop.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">After an epic heads-up battle, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier finally owns what he has been dreaming of for many years: his first WSOP bracelet! Coming back from less than 2 big bets and a 24:1 chip deficit he managed to take the title in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, which is pretty surprising since his previous successes were almost exclusively NLHE events.

The final day started with 14 players remaining and throughout most of the day Steve Landfish was the chipleader, so it was not much of a surprise to see him heads-up. However, for ElkY the road to the final 2 was much less straightforward as he had to double through Chad Brown early on to stay alive and he was much less experienced at 7-card Stud than his opponent. Actually he had never played a live 7-card Stud tournament at all!

When they reached the heads-up stage, Landfish had a lead of 2.2mln vs 1.5mln for ElkY. However, ElkY soon managed to fight back and they changed chiplead many times, yet at some point it seemed like ElkY would have to wait a little longer for his first bracelet. When he got down to less than 200,000 with 50,000-100,000 blinds he had to pray to the pokergods, but it seemed like they heard him, as he managed to fight back, and take it down in the end. After first losing a big pot, Landfish had to ship it in with As4s3s while ElkY held Jc5c9d and leave it to luck. He only managed to hit one pair of fours and as ElkY ended up with a full house the nearly 4 hour heads-up battle was over with ElkY victorious.

With this win, ElkY now joins the elite group of players having completed the Triple Crown. After his victory he commented: "So sick. Finally did it after five years on the WSOP! Thanks so much everyone for the support and best wishes!"

ElkY's triple crown:

    · January 2008 – PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event – $2,000,000
    · October 2008 – WPT Festa Al Lago – $1,411,015
    · June 2011 – WSOP Seven Card Stud Championship – $331,639

Final tournament standings:

    1 Bertrand Grospellier $331,639
    2 Steve Landfish $204,924
    3 Maxwell Troy $128,341
    4 John Hennigan $92,928
    5 Alexander Kostritsyn $72,627
    6 Chad Brown $57,917
    7 Kevin Tang $47,032
    8 Chris Tryba $38,812

not after 1 million event

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

I just saw the film 'Senna' in the cinema earlier, a feature length documentary about the life and career of F1 champion Ayrton Senna.. I imagine in a few decades time from now there could be a similar film about ElkY.

only if ElkY dies in the top of his carrer, like winning the WSOP main event and other huge events and dying one year later

good idea

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same
