"How was poker today... did you get your redline up?"

Thoughts? lol

I've been playing poker lately, only focusing on HU NLHE. I am pretty sure I just suck at 6max. I think a lot of it has to do with attention issues. I find that HU keeps me much more focused on the game, and I find that I am able to adjust much easier. My results have been pretty meh, but I am becoming much more comfortable, and still actively trying to learn and improve.
One main issue I have is my graph, and how SD Winnings, Non SD Winnings, All In EV, and Total Winnings are all related. As you can see, my redline seems pretty atrocious. I know the sample is small, but this seems to potentially be a big flaw in my game. At the same time, my showdown winnings are pretty high. This leads me to believe maybe I am folding a good amount postflop, but seem to be doing ok when I do showdown my hands...? So maybe the redline is just HU variance? I dunno, what do you guys think? Maybe I need to be firing more 2nd barrels, c/ring more flops, doing more to win non sd pots?

that is a pretty impressive loss-rate on ur red line lol, but don't worry about it too much just focus on your game. come back after like 10-20k hands and see what's up

the eternal mystery of the downsloping red line

TenBagger   United States. Nov 21 2009 17:53. Posts 2018

I know people say that redline doesn't matter and all, but I find personally that my redline is a big indication of how well I'm playing. I find that my biggest cause of a downward sloping redline is when I call or bet on the flop/turn without a plan for later streets. Like if I'm 9 tabling and surfing the internet and playing like a robot, there will be too many times where I'll call a flop bet OOP with second pair thinking he prob didn't hit TP but with no plan on how to proceed on later streets. Another big leak that is responsible for my downward sloping redline is when I call the turn and fold the river when the proper play is to either fold the turn or if I'm gonna call the turn I have to call the river but when faced with a large river bet, I pussy out.

When I'm playing well and focused, I'll have a plan. I'll put my opponent on a range and I'm calling the flop with a clear plan on how to proceed on various turns and rivers and that really helps my redline.

TenBagger, phenomenal post! I feel that is definitely one of my main problems.

and calling 3 bets against aggressive players with marginal hands and folding when you miss the flop will hurt your redline as well

calling with the intention of hitting something big/improving big generally hurts teh red line a lot.
U shall only call when u think u can get to showdown or bluff villian off with this hand a good amount

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)

Ty, you guys gave me some good things to think about whilst stoned. results to come.

Fwiw I thought the GF asking that would be amusing, but I forgot to mention this was in bed at 4am.. I found it amusing she remembered me complaining about my redline. It was almost as if she was like talking dirty in poker terms :-

never ever say anything about your results in poker on a day to day basis or anything that resembles whining or unhappiness from poker. that has already bit me in the ass and i will not make that mistake again.

I feel like at the micro stakes a lot of your money would be coming from people folding too much and just not making plays... maybe you've just been playing a lot of monkeys though, either way you're probably having problems adjusting against people being too aggressive on later streets or you're just not taking advantage of passive players. I really don't know though, that graph just confuses me to no end.

Same here....

I feel like when I am getting to showdown and either vbetting or calling bets/raises, I am generally making pretty good decisions. But yah, aggressive players seem to own me a lot postflop, resulting in ridiculous redline. And when I do adjust and call them down, I am generally good, and then have info to adjust more..? HU sessions tend to be pretty short, so its hard to make adjustments to their monkeying quickly without getting kinda spewy...?
