--** warning, this is about me getting scammed for a phone and breaking even, and how to not get scammed ur self. if ur not interested in this, then its gonna b REALLY boring**--
well this story isnt that great, pretty cool for me but normally i wouldnt share..
but this is kinda more of a warning then anything.
Basically what happened, i found a craigslist add for my iphone, guy was selling for 100 under retail. it was new in box with receipt.. so i drove to the next city over, met him at the mall and bought it from him.. i paid him cash, and that was it.. the only thing i had was his # but it was on my old phone, which i promptly lost when i switched out simcards..
anyway everything was good until 2 months later when my cell bill was like 650 bucks.. and im like wtf they ran it twice?
what happened, was, the dude, he stole a credit card, bought the iphone with it, then sold it to me.. credit card company did a charge back to at&t and then since i was using the phone, THEY CHARGED ME FOR IT!!!
so i was pretty much fucked, but i contacted the fraud department, they asked me for info on the guy, and i had nothing... so i guess waht they do in alot of cases with customers like me ( have had plans for a long time ) is see how much u paid for the phone from the person that stole it.. then they charge u the difference between that, and retail.. well i told the lady on the phone i bought it for 500, and they only charged me 30 bucks.. but this isnt totally standard, if i wouldnt have been on my family plan for the last 5 years, im pretty sure theyd stick me with the whole bill..
anyway i luck sacked it and only lost 30 bucks..
basically my advice to you all is if your going to buy anything from a person over craigslist, id make sure it cant be traced back to you, like a cell phone or something, unless u have some good ways to contact the person who sold it 2 u... phone are getting more and more expensive so i bet this is goign to happen to alot of ppl.. i mean if u get a tv its alot diff, cuz no one can find the tv and bill u for it..
i think phones are prolly the only thing to worry about with this kinda scam, anyway, just keep a look out.. and if this has already happened to u, tell at&t u spent 530 on the phone and break even!

cuz he had a nice-ish car, so i figured he was an americanized mexican... or non felonized mexican, i duno what to call him.. but he looked alright, im pretty good at judging ppl, and he really didnt fit the bill for a credit card theif.. im kinda wondering if he just bought it him self and then called in teh card as stolen, i had the same idea to do that once in canada.. just go to all the bars and drink my ass off, then call my card in stolen the next day.. i obv didnt do it.. |

Buying a discounted iphone from a shady mexican is not balla, just go to the apple store next time, 100$ extra for a legit phone is probably worth it so you dojn't have to deal with all the aggravation. Craigslist is the best place to buy stolen goods. |
