I was thinking about gathering a small team of 2-4 winning players that more or less have the same goals and grinding ability and just sharing everything from bankroll, profits, knowledge in everygame MTTs, NL cash games, omaha, etc.

Always had this thought but after my recent downswing I was thinking a bit more if is this even doable. Does anyone do this or have done this before? any pros/cons you might wanna share?

The main reason for me would be that poker is just such a lonely enterprise, you are basically a one man company and I feel like if I'm gonna do this for more years, learning new games along the way I would work better and harder with a group rather than alone, it can help with motivation too when you hit a downswing, you won't win as much with an upswing but I guess the group would be the most important thing and not just your personal success.

Any thoughts?

this is a brilliant idea imo. i've tried something similar with friends, sharing losses/winnings over a short period of time, but it never worked out. probably due to us being close friends and playing the same type of games (sngs), i would guess. if one however builds a team (or a company) of diverse players where sharing (as in money and knowledge) is caring and introduce different bonuses etc. i would assume that it could become something where eventually only the sky is the limit.

I dunno, imo this is a stretch. Just get a skype conversation with the same group where you discuss the game, everyday poker stuff, maybe partially share action by swapping or selling/buying some percents of action, etc.

I've heard of a few times people tried to share bankrolls and I never ever heard of it ending well nor have I ever seen those involved ever do it again.

i recently lived with silver for 6 months, grinding and talking poker with each other. It worked ok and our motivation was good but we got a little lazy after 3-4 months. I think we learnt a bit from each other but no more than what you would learn from reading talentedtom posts in the strategy threads

i would love to be in a skype group with mid-high stakes grinders though, especially ones i play against at the midstakes because it's 100 times easier to spot leaks in another person when you're playing them, instead of just going over hand histories or watching them play.

Also, sharing br's is insane. and it doesn't seem necessary given how dry poker is thesedays.

agreed that sharing BR's is not gonna work out, what if you go on a 2 month heater, and the guy ur sharing with is on a 2 month downer right off the bat, your gonna have a lot of passive aggresion towards this person naturally. Daily discussion goroups on skype or msn is a pretty awesome idea which a lot of people would be down for.

just a different form of staking. I'm sure it's possible, but I think a lot of awkward spots could come up if you play the same stakes as your 2-3 partners. You will know a lot about each others' games and also will be sharing action, so there's a double annoying dilemma of whether it's fair for your opponents and also you now have 2-3 new tougher opponents who know a lot about your game. I kind of like it if it's diversified into MTT/Cash/SNG/different stakes cash, but at that point it becomes unfair and impossible to determine an equity stake. I.e if you're playing 5/10NL is it fair to go 25/25/25/25 with 3 guys who are playing high stakes MTT's/2-4NL? No one will be happy with the split they get imo. Too many variables.

You're better off just backing said players or partially backing them since there are established ways to determine the value.

I people i've heard do this have always regretted it.

Like already said, only Dang bros are the exception. Also do not forget the Team Cardrunners. I guess they are the biggest winners of all time from it

i am considering doing a poker team kind of starcraft style, make videos, advertise, open business but it would have to be with the right group of people. maybe initially with a skype group of acquaintances.

sharing bankrolls thats just going to end up wrong

Yea, well I think it's a good idea at heart but it's very very dificult to pull off with every party ending satisfied with the deal, someone will always feel that they got the worst part of it. That said I did pull it off succesfully for a bit at some point that's why I'm not closed off to the idea just yet.

I think it just takes real friendship and care and not just bussiness point of view so yeah prob not a very good idea for the vast majority of people and relationships. casinocasino would that mostly be MTT players?

yeah I think it would work best with MTT players with side income (SNGs, NLHE, PLO)

I have considered this with one of my best real life friends, but eventually we ruled against it due to all the small details and potential complications, which can all create passive aggression/regret and ruin good friendships. I cannot see this work with online agreements/contracts.

FWIW, I am starting a midstakes+ private NLH forum as my previous encounters in study groups and coaching show that this is the most effective medium, where quality can be preserved/controlled and leeching/free coaching avoided. The goal is to have a tight active group of members that contribute actively in a private environment that leaves a lasting footprint and allows asynchronous communication. Inactive or non-contributing members will be pruned on a regular basis. If anyone is interested, feel free to PM. I believe a forum/tight community like this can help with the motivation and loneliness aspect of your OP as well as escalating your study habits and game.

Apply for free coaching. Check my blog for details.

Where do you find real friends that are good at poker?
Like, of my group of 10 close friends I've found that sadly I can trust fully on money issues on 3 of them. Nevermind sharing bankrolls
