ANZPT + January by Babs, January 30

Hi all

Who's attending to ANZPT in Adelaide? I'm flying down with wobbly_au & pokemyface for the main event, but it's more of a holiday more than anything (ballin' it up in the Hyatt obv). I can't think of much to do down there besides visit the Bradman museum, but meh it should be good fun.

January was super awesome, my best month ever.

Beat: Still working full-time, and got lumped with one of the worst jobs ever. Doing the accounts for this client can only be compared to Enron, it's such a mess.

4 game shot at $11+1 turbo STTs by vlseph, January 30

took down two of them for $49.50 each :D
gonna continue the $11+1s next month, on a small poker break right now and trying out a death knight on WOW.
will play my DK exclusively for the next two days, then will hit up the grind.

SNGs are pretty fun, gonna stick with them and gonna try and hit Iron Man in Feb.

need 29 games a day for 25 days, seems doable. only 15 games during happy hour.

only worried about all my exams though, since two of my classes hold 6 exams a semester.

so like 20% roi over around 130 games, I'm liking it :D

NL10 stint by Uptown, January 30

So the previous blog entry + the next day ended up being a -7bi doomswitch sequence, cooler and suck out city. In addition I felt that something about my play wasn't quite right, though I couldn't really pinpoint it. I decided it was time to move down for a few days and evaluate my game.

So I've spent today and yesterday at NL10, working on my game 6 tabling. I think I became a bit braindead 8 tabling NL25, so I plan on sticking with 6 tables for the foreseeable future.

Adjusting my PF range a bit, as well as bet sizing based on position. Postflop, I'm really trying to talk to myself about what hands I can fold out with my bet, what hands stay in, what hands can be making a bet against me, how does my hand do against his range, etc. I still suck with ranges but I'm doing my best I guess . It's still rudimentary like on a A84 board or w/e, I'll be thinking "air, Ax, mid pps... how much of the range do I beat, how likely are each, etc". Trying esp hard to not make bets that fold out everything but hands I dont beat.

So over 3k hands at NL10, I'm somehow doing well despite feeling like I'm getting coolered / sucked out around every corner. I guess that redline is indicative of making decent bets postflop based on the thought process I described above. It's obviously the basic thoughtprocess of TAG poker, but I'm convinced I have major major major holes in that line of thinking as is.

Most hands ever by NeillyJQ, January 30

I played the most hands i ever played in one day today

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 13656 hands

had a few sessions

started the day at 1001 - ran up to 1366

came back, dropped 10 bi 1070 or something

came back again, dropped 10 bi to 810ish

came back, said 1.5 bi stop loss, ZERO mistakes and I played very well in my eyes, i dropped 1/2 a buyin before i started winning, i got counterfitted on a couple big pots, but w/e

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/fce6fdc1d059529be0bc3c72840bcca2.jpg

so i got back to even, weee

btw, i think it was yomer who was saying "tilt" or something, which 100% isn't the case, i play a very aggressive game and i push around a lot of fold equity, i just kept missing when it was the right play and kept getting sucked out on w/ top two. had some coolers too, like tptk vs mid set (co opens - i 3bet AK otb - he calls) flops KT3ssx, his range is huge, he check raises from 5 to 15 on this board, i kinda ship cuz most of those spade draw / open ender / Kx I can get lot of value from and I'm only behind TTT, I didn't think he would raise 33 or w/e the low card was PF, meh, he coulda had KT but that was highly unlikely to be calling 3bets with oop although we were deep

BR $1,016.93

w/e, i have all the time in the world, tomorrows a new day, hopefully i can inch closer to nl50 lawl

January+TV by Critterer, January 30

So im finishing january now, i didnt really play much the entire first half, but ive put in 10k this week to make up for it and to get silverstar on the month. Played a bit of nl10 fullring but got bored and opened up 12x nl25 with a 300 roll, was fun not being able to reload on tables... not.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/37794a33d7ab1355961499f0ba737884.jpg

Anyway some ups and downs and 10k hands later im doing okay, got a $500 roll some im rolled for nl25 at least. Gunna continue to 12 table FR in february and hopefully get at LEAST goldstar, probably platinumstar if i can move up to nl50 towards the latter half of the month.

Reason im so anxious about fpp's is that im 2500 from the 26k £250 amazon voucher, so im gunna buy that, then im gunna use that combined with some other cash i got from poker to purchase myself a nice TV.

Decided to opt for the LG 37LG6000 - 37"

http://www.plazmadiszkont.hu/kepek/kiskepek/2899nagy.jpg

I don't need a bigger tv than 37" since i dont have a room big enough to warrant it, so ive gone for quality.

Everything on the spec of this tv is sexy as hell and it looks really sweet too. It's quite nice to see rewards for playing poker, like physical ones. Only other real purchases from poker are like my fpp ipod nano and then my monitors.

Maybe this time i'll stop fucking around with cashouts and actually attempt to push for midstakes...

The Mental Side by k2o4, January 30

I've really forgotten about the mental side of poker lately. When I first started playing poker I was at a retreat about buddhisim and science where grad students were presenting research projects about how meditation affected the brain. It was actually a great environment to start in, full of calm, intelligent insightful people, meditation sessions and reports about how to use my brain better. I remember thinking that I could have a huge edge in the long run if I applied the things I was learning here since poker was such a mental game and it's all about making good decisions all the time.

For the first 6 months of playing poker I actually had created a pre-session routine that included 5 minutes of meditation before I played along with doing some mantras saying stuff like "I am a good disciplined poker player" and "I will not tilt, and if I think I will tilt I will leave" and "I will make perfect decisions". I got lazy on it though, I guess cause I wasn't making much money grinding micro stakes limit cash games. At that point it was more important to learn how to play than to have a perfect mental mind state... but that's not so true, cause a good mental mind state is always +ev in poker.

Anyway after listening to the thing rnbsalsa posted it got me thinking about this again. It was funny to listen to the guy just lay out all the strategies I'd actually put together right at the beginning of my poker career. I realize that I have hit a point where I know the right decision to make at least 90% of the time, but when I'm losing it's usually cause I'm only making the right decision about 80% of the time. Not cause I don't know it, but because I'm not in the right mental state.

The last thing I wanna mention is that I had a minor downswing yesterday. Played 4 sessions and lost a small amount in every session. Today played 1 session and sat into a heater that was killed by back to back coolers vs regs, then re-initiated. Ended up losing 3 big hands as coolers (1 200bb deep) but still coming out with a 4 BI win.

hopefully I have a good friday. Haven't had one of those in a long while.

NL25 6m by NeillyJQ, January 29

Just had an epic downswing at NL25 6max, no hands held, top two vs tptk, 3bet pots with tptk vs mid sets for 2bi's etc, ended up losing 11bi and quitting around my 10 bi stop loss. (lost 2 bi at the very end...was down 9bi and 2 hit me real fast while i was closing tables)

This was a really bad session, I feel 100% that I was playing my A+ game, but the cards just wouldn't comply.

Meh, shoulda just took the rest of the day off

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/fe7828aad02c6227dd35f73b6c9d9418.jpg

::EDIT:: played another 2 hour session and lost 10 more buy-ins to sick sick fucking coolers, to every light 3better picking up monsters vs me everytime they 3bet me on the button....FUCK i couldn't win in any way shape or form.

Search my name and look at the hands posted, yes i did make 1-2 mistakes here and there, but t

(shows it wasn't any bluffs that was causing me to lose, was just getting run over by the deck in so many unfoldable situations =[)

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/b834bc20b206c4d7eb8c6cab214e853d.jpg

FML T_T

upside is I never tilted and played my absolute best throughout the whole session, although I did try a hero at the end with mptk vs a set and instaquit after that

BR 1078.68 - update - BR 803.63 (these downswings are fucking raping me, i took an hour off, came back and couldnt win a pot STILL)

session 3 - won 4bi, 895.35

Overall 20 bi downswing, im taking a break for a while, this game started to frustrate me at the end.

GL LP,
Ryan

I haven't withdrew at all in a while now which is sick good, hopefully I can continue this and get back to where I used to be and further Obvioulsy not going to go into too much detail because month is soon to end and that will just ruin my month update

DC and HU by EXCELED, January 29

Wut up guys?

Been pretty busy this week at school. Had a few papers to do but I got that all out of the way so Im probably going to go out tonight and get absolutely shit faced Might hit up a bar called Jim Bobs. Havent been there yet but I heard its pretty rockin. We'll see though Im only going out if my buddy comes down here to see his g/f though so he fucking better lol.

My buddy and I went splits on a Deucescracked membership for a month. Ive always really wanted to get really good at HU NLHE. KRANTZ is the man at HU so Ive been watching a lot of his videos and Im learning a shit ton. HU is a lot of fun and if you can get past egos then I think you can become a really great player. Some people take losing HU really personally but you have to get past that. And unlike a lot of people I would say I dont really have an ego at all. Im a pretty modest guy so hopefully that can help me out a bit. But anyways Im going to keep watching these videos and grinding out some HU SNGS because right now Im not really rolled for a HU Cash game... unless that had $5 HU cashgame tables lol.

Im going to go take a nap so Im ready for a shit show tonight.
