Moving back to the bay... by MARSHALL28, May 02

Okay so I figured I would post this first in my blog to see if I get any kind of decent response since I don't want to clutter the "main poker" threads unnecessarily if I don't have to...

I've thought a lot lately about what I want to do with my life, I considered travelling the world for a while, only to think about it and realize how much I hate traveling. Might be second to walking into oncoming traffic. I thought about going back to San Diego, but I have a bit of a troubled past there and think I want to just get away from it. So my best friend asked me to move back home (the east bay area) where we grew up to achieve basketball coaching greatness.

So my number one priority for a place to live is going to be one where I will meet a lot of people my age, specifically females, obv, and to be in this area close to where we will be coaching. What I'm looking for is if anyone here is from the east bay, and knows specifically the Walnut Creek/Concord/Pleasant Hill area, I'm hoping someone might know where the spots are to be for someone in their mid twenties.

I have a flight booked on the 8th to head up there and apartment hunt, but I have no idea where I should be looking other than a vague understanding that downtown WC might be a good spot.

Any ideas?

Starting up by MasterJRS, May 02

Normally I don't post on LP. I started online poker on Cake Poker and soon realized I should get as far away as possible from that site and their software. I re-deposited on PS and had a great run at the beginning in NL10. Soon, the BR started to drop when the cards went sour so I decided to drop the stakes and play it slow and small so I wouldn't cripple the BR. After hitting a rocky start things started to turn around. As you can see, in only a few short hands the game didn't so bad. Hopefully this is only a glimpse of what is to come.

april by YoUr_KiLLeR, May 01

MMMMMMMMMM yea april didnt end so well. i started off quickly getting $2000 in my bankroll so i took a shot at 100nl. that didnt go so badly. through the 5.5k hands there i swung between -2 bi to +3 bi. i never completely moved to 100nl though, usually played it with a mix of 50nl and towards the middle of the month i stopped playing it due to a loss of confidence in my game. i think i should be able to beat 100nl, it doesnt seem too different from 50nl, aside from a little bit more preflop aggressiveness (3betting and squeezeing). im not quite used to the money though.

again my volume was lacking. just not putting in enough hands during school, but ill be done with school on the 16th this month so ill be looking to put in at least 20 hours per week during the summer since im not doing anything else productive. i also need to start reviewing my sessions more. HEM's hand marking feature is great and i havent been using it as much as i should with trouble hands.

on a last note, what do you think about my stats? its a little bit tight for 6 max i know, im still trying to open up some (i played 15/13 or so at 25nl). am i folding to 3bets too often? i havent adjusted all that well to the increased 3betting at these 2 limits.

i reached my modest goal in april of taking 100nl shots. my goal this month will be to regain confidence in my game and try to become a reg there.

swungs by NeillyJQ, May 01

moved up to nl25 6max 3-4 days ago, haven't had a winning session yet

running over 8bi below expectation at nl25, down 11.5bi...

graph of nl5-nl25 6max

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/ac1f23eaae1adfa4f8c4690416c43e35.jpg

should be up 325, fml =[

gonna keep grinding, kinda annoyed, not really focused on winning money but making the right decision on each hand, guess its only 10k hands of downswinging, still really annoying.

this rant could be extremely long and pissy, bottom line comes down to i'm 75-95% almost everytime last 3 days and just keep getting shit on, on the river =[

aiyA

Well this is why I'm playing on 70bi......

swing up plz?

sick of losing =[

Ryan

Nice start to May by SmokingDough, May 01

I had a pretty solid day at the tables today. Always nice to start the month off with a win. I played a lot of full rign today and it was pretty smooth sailing for the most part and didnt end up in many tricky spots. I played about 3k hands and made $54. ID say 80% NL10 and 20% NL25. The NL25 games are terrible on UltimateBet and theres never anymore then like 9 tables going which sucks cock because they always have a fucking waiting list. So I settle for the NL10 fish which are always plentyful so I guess its not so bad.

At one point in the day the there was no real good tables going on and the wait lists were huge so I decided to play a bit of HU. Ive had some decent results at HU. It would be interesting to see my graph lifetime heads up. Im pretty sure Im in the green by a lot. But anyways I got a decent fish to play against and things were going pretty good. and I was making SICK calls on this guy. He was stabbing at pots all the time and I looked him up a few times and was right. Then we played one big hand where he rivered a full house on me and he was pretty much even. I wanna say It was a good call in its own way becasue he 2 outted me on the river but he had the best hand so I guess it was a bad call?. I think 99% of the time vs that guy Im good there. But yea... Bum hunting at HU is probably the most profitable poker game I think so Im going to be looking to play a bit more here and there but my main focus of course will be full ring.

Here is my graph for the day:

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/may1.jpg

Very happy with toady and the last few days obviously. I played a tournament today and did pretty well too. There was 400 ppl in it and I came 25th for a whopping $20. SHIP IT! lol. I ended up getting it all in with AK, buddy with a monster stack called me with K10, Flop K104 GG. Woulda played it the same way so cant complain there either.

Tonight Im going to a kegger that a buddy of mine from class is holding. Should be pretty good. Hopefully I can meet some new people and maybe wheel a brod or something ahaha. Im probably going to end up going to meet with some of my buddies at a bar or something but Ill be pre drinking at the kegger lol. Hopefully its sick and then I dont have to go to the bar and spend money lol.

Anyways Im gonna go get ready for tonight.
Cheers guys,

SMOKINGDOUGH

bumbleowned by SakiSaki, May 01

Got back from uppsala today after celebrating "valborg" with some friends in uppsala. Valborg is basicly a holiday that is celebrated hard core in uppsala since its a huge student city and it revolves around 40k students getting shitfaced in several diffrent ways for like two days. Its pretty fucking crazy, i didnt bring my camera but I might upload some images later if I can get my hands on a friends pictures.

It was a real blast and the weather was fucking awesome so I really enjoyed myself. So after two days of heavy drinking im sound asleep and all of a sudden im crudely awoken by a fucking bumblebee stinging me in my hand, it actually fucking hurt! I feel like such a wuss because the bumblebee is like the most pussy sounding animal in the entire insect kingdom. This was 14 hours ago and my hand is still swollen and it still hurts. What the fuck, it was a fucking bumblebee!? Anyways, I naturally beat the crap out the little fucker with a newspaper so its all good.

As for me quiting poker I have to admit I have been cheating a little bit. Ive mostly been dabbling around with some sattelites to the wsop as I really wanna play that this summer. No sucess so far though.

Owell, spring is here, hot girls are everywhere and its looking to be a really fucking great summer so life is good.

April by Gawuss, May 01

So last month was not entirely about poker, I had to do some stuff for school, I did some rehab (by the way, I've got only 2 visits left, my leg is almost 100% fine now. I'll have to practice by myself to keep it strong) but I also had 7 lessons with D_Zoo and played some poker (17k hands only though). When it comes to those lessons, I'm glad I record them because I must say there's plenty of things for me to learn and I'll need to rewatch each of them a couple of times until I get the most of what my great coach has told me - during the lessons I'm like 'yea, yea, yea, ok, I get it' and there's not much left to ask because he talks about everything and gets into details. I guess I'll write down a list of questions for our next lesson to ask him cause sometimes while playing an idea comes to my mind and then I simply forget it.

Ok, so here's the graph:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/151fdfdb769ee45887d0d2c3a095a588.jpg

In April I'm up about ~$5,6k. It's not that bad but it could have definitely been better if I didn't have those sick swings like every day.

Good luck,

Mike

Return to poker by PokerDoc88, May 01

Ok so I'm pretty quiet with poker-related updates, mainly because I haven't played much lately (ie. for almost a year). I cashed out most of my bankroll, left myself $500 to grind and decided I'd try 10nl just to start to ease myself back. I didn't play too many hands because of thesis (read previous blog post), hopefully I can consistently grind in May and play 100k hands.

Here is over-all April result:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/45d40578cc57e4296073fc6780137d50.jpg

Here are results for April at 10nl fullring:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/9c24626918516f0c70396fd970278c5a.jpg

25nl fullring was too nitty for my liking, so after roughly 15k hands running at only 3.5ptbb/100 I decided to switch to 6max and that has been pretty fruitful, +8bi in 2.5k hands.

Br currently 1.3k. I'll stick to 25nl until I'm at 1.5k, then I'll grind 50nl until 3k. Hopefully I'm at 3k and hitting 100nl by the end of May.

Sengoku 8th Battle(FWGP) by SfydjkLm, May 01

Well well tomorrow is the second round of Sengoku FWGP. While not packing as many big names as Dream FWGP they nonetheless made a point out of making an exiting GP and not a boring snoozefest courtesy of Imanari&Co. There first round fights were fantastic and there is no reason not to expect the same from the 2nd round.

Hatsu Hioki(18-3-2, 9 subs) vs Ronnie Mann(16-1-1, 10 subs)

For a reason that escapes me everyone picks Hioki over the jolly brit, probably because of the W against the legendary Rumina Sato on his record. I however beg to differ. Mann is in my opinion one of the few well rounded Featherweights in the business and his last fight against Yamada(which is one of the best fights of this year so far) is a testament to that. Kid can strike, and he can grapple too. His Muyai Thai background and 75% sub rate speak for themselves. The scary part? Mann is only 8 days older then me, at 22, and Hioki is 25. Way to contribute to my inferiority complex guys.

Michihiro Omigawa(5-7-1) vs Nam Phan(15-5-0)

Well, i think the record speaks for itself in this case, and while the former's victory against LC Davis seems to suggest otherwise, it was a fight Davis did not come in properly prepared for. Another TKO victory for Phan.

Masanori Kanehara(12-5-5) vs. Chan Sung Jung(6-0-0)

I do not know enough about either fighter to draw conclusions.

Marlon Sandro(13-0-0) vs Nick Denis(7-0-0)

This is tough to predict, on one Nick Denis who reminds you of Joachim Hansen, and not only for his bright red bearded face, but for being a tiny whirlwind of destruction. On the other hand Sandro looked real shit in his last fight against "Jagger Bomb." But the problem is that Denis's ground game is largely untested and while having one submission on his record, it is questionable what he can do against the reasonable BJJ skillset of the Brazilian. I, however, will go with my gut and say that Sandro is gonna get mini-Hansen'ed.
