Beats by ToT)MidiaN(, June 24

Last time I posted a blog, early this month, I had just moved from Stars to iPoker with the intention of playing $3/$6 and moving up to $5/$10 and beyond asap, but I came back to Korea on the 8th and couldn't get any tables going on iPoker due to timezones so I've split my roll across FTP and Stars again. Before coming back to Korea, this month started pretty decently, being up $3k in the first 5 days of the month. Despite only playing 3k hands and running $7k below expectation it made me feel like I was getting back in the groove, winning in the way I used to, however since moving back to Stars/FTP I've been losing again despite running above expectation as you can see here:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/5171/june09.jpg

I'm still up for the month including the $3k won on iPoker and $500 won in live games here in Korea, but I'm still super super tilted. I spent 50k hands on Stars 100NL over the last 2 months and was barely above breakeven, and now I'm playing some $1/$2 deep on FTP and doing even worse than breakeven. I've definitely ran bad in terms of running into more than my fair share of coolers, and not coolering people very often, simply not making many big hands to start with and not being able to hit shit in a reraised pot. I know that I can still win at $3/$6 and $5/$10, but can't I win at $0.50/$1 and $1/$2? I know I don't play my best games at those stakes, and I get tilted easily because the shit I see is so stupid and yet I'm still losing to it, but I used to crush these games when I was playing them, and I sucked back then. Ugh. I'm interested in sweating people who play these stakes, and also being sweated if anyone is up for that (PM me). Although I think that I think a lot deeper than most players at these stakes, maybe I simply overthink things and end up playing bad because of it, it's like I valuebet thin in a spot because I'm repping tons of missed draws and not many value hands and they end up tanking and calling with better. I bluff in some spots where I'm repping almost no bluffs at all and they snapcall with some garbage that sucks vs my entire range, unfortunately I always seem to have the wrong part of my range in these spots, maybe I bluff more than I think I do in some spots, I don't feel like I am, but maybe I actually am.

I'd talk some about my life but not too much has been happening. d.Apollo has been here for more than 2 weeks and we've been going out often, he's been "birdin'" a whole lot and we've been to the casino a couple of times too. I've finally quit wow and have been getting up earlier in the morning the last couple of days, allowing me to put in a shitton of hands (5.5k in the last 2 days). Also finally been going to the gym some, something that I've been talking about doing for ages but never went more than a couple of times before and never with any consistency. Hopefully I can continue working out, getting up early, putting in a lot of hands and hopefully start running good or figure out if/what I'm doing wrong sometime soon.

shitty yet great day by TheTank, June 24

pissed about life shit but hey, on the e-tables, i doubled my br.
I decided that since 5nl and 2nl are the same (opponents skill wise) i'd play my entire br on 2 tables (i had ~6 dollars), i got it to 9 in about 300 hands or so...then i decided today that the best way to make monies is to 4 table. however, i didn't feel comfortable 4tabling 5nl with 9 dollars, so i split the money up evenly between 4 tables at 2nl. this worked, as i made profit on 2 of the tables, and busting out on the other two. I was up +7 on one table and +5 on the other. I also decided to play turbo tables only to get in more hands.

On the tables i busted out on... i got it in pf w/ kings, and the other dude turned up aces, they held.
On the other table... this is gay and pissed me off...i was playing heads up b/c the table died, and i realized it, but i was BB so i stayed in to play one more hand. I got AA. SB raises, i reraise, he 4bets, i shove, he calls... I'm thinking my aces are good hu right?? WRONG. flop is KJJ, he has KK, fml.

i need a vehicle *sigh*
i'm winning in vegas.

Registering for the Main Event by BJLTNYK, June 24

I'm sure the info is out there but whatever. Is it possible to register for the Main Event online or over the phone? I don't really feel like having to bring $10k+ in cash on the plane to Vegas if possible and there have been so many nightmare stories on people with their wires to casinos. Any advice for what I should do? Or if someone out there can hook me up with cash for Stars PM or post here too.

tyty and see some of you out there

Good day by DustySwedeDude, June 24

So after today I'm not down that much for the month. With some luck I might actually turn a profit if I can play decently these last few days. That break worked out very well. Don't have a lot to write except go Pinny and Saki in Vegas and Joe in Barcelona. I guess I'll try to join you guys next year.

updates by bober1, June 24

I recently took a 2 and half week break to travel spain with some friends and my gf, taking a break from poker and hoping to get a fresh start to poker when i got back. It was pretty awesome, but now its back to work.

Heres about the last 5 days of play

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/1558/aftervacation.jpg

One of those sessions in there for about 1300 hands i had a flop set % of 28 haha. Yet i only won at show down 30% of the time and still managed to lose.

Following the same trend as of lately, I keep losing without understanding whats going on. Ive made roughly 4 in the past 100k hands, which is garbage and is really frustrating. I've have several people watch me and no one seems to spot anything major, but i've got to be doing something wrong. I used to have sick awesome tilt control, but now i get set off so easily simply because its been happening for so long. Hopefully i can keep my head straight and start winning again.

PLO variance: When it rains, it pours by Joe, June 24

Just had a nice miniheater in PLO which made me think how huge the effect of variance in this game is, short-term. If I had some bad luck instead, it could have had been a -1,000 euro session quite easily.

Day 23 by Stageus, June 24

Day 23: 23.6.09

Today I had my last exam in this semester. I had it in the afternoon so before it I had been learning it. I passed and decided to celebrate it in the evening. So I and my friends went to cinema. We chose new horror Drag Me to Hell. It was more funny then scary so it was good show and we laugh all the time. Then we went to pub and when we were only two we decided to go to poker club. We had good mood and we enjoyed it despite we both finished break even.
I didn’t play any session today and I’m not sure if I will play tomorrow because we have another big party in the evening. So maybe in the afternoon...

Officially moving back by iop, June 24

So if any of you have read my blog, I decided to accept the job offer after reading the contract, since it seemed excellent: experience-wise (for my future), moneywise, and developmentwise.

So we're gonna start off with a long distance relationship, its only an hour flight and if I manage to get the hang of the things quickly I might be able to work in Stockholm 3-4 days a week, and work 1-2 days in Malmö and live in my girlfriends apartment.

Pokerwise, might be going on a mtt staking deal.

Btw, does anybody know why pocketfives is missing some scores?

Here are some pics from midsummer in Sweden, 4 of my best friends and I held a party for about 20 people. The theme was "färgglatt med hatt" - which means "Colorful with a hat"

1/2 live, or, $1.50/hr by collegesucks, June 24

"Tiny" is the nickname of a 300lb. black man who regularly plays 1/2 and 2/5 at Harrah's New Orleans. Needless to say, he's not one to be pushed around.

he's one of those players who sort of has a clue about the relative strength of hands, but at times he does weird, unexplainable shit like taking pot control lines with hands like JK on a JJ9 multiway flop as the preflop raiser. he'll also act on instinct and whim like every other live pro out there, so he can appear to be a total maniac at times.

well he lost that JK hand to 99, and afterwards, he went off on ragetilt preflop, raising like 50% of hands. i stacked him with KK once after that in a 3bet pot, in which he c/r me all in on a 432 flop.

a few hands later he raised to 15 pre and i bumped it to 45 with JKo, ~$400 effective because he needs to know he's not going to shit on the whole table without hearing from me. he called and the flop came 924r. i cbet $50 and he called. turn was a harmless deuce and he checked to me, saying "you don't have a deuce, i check". rofl no shit sherlock. i looked over at his stack and fired $100 and he folded. i showed my KJo and he said that i had him beat. yeah i'm sure i did -__-;;

well about 30 mins later, he raised 67o utg to $10 and i was sitting to his direct left and woke up with AA (lol). i 3bet to $35. everyone folded and he shoved like $250 over the top and i snap called. well the board ran out T9xx8 and he busted my aces. rofl what the fuck ok no biggie, deal the next hand.

he raises to $20, $500 effective and i flat call my AKhh cuz i'd hate my life if he 4bet me (if i had a more comfortable br, i'd probably 3bet and get it in). well the flop comes A64hh (lol... ding?) and he cbets $50 and i think for a bit and call. turn is an offsuit 8 and he insta fires $150. haha ok so he obviously likes his hand and hates my guts so he's not gunna go anywhere. even though the stack sizes were kind of awkward i pushed him all in and he SNAP called with A9o.

the river was 9c gg 1k pot

T___T

after that hand i just kind of shrugged it off and restrained myself from pulling out more money cuz i was obviously affected by how gay the night was. i spent 8 fucking hours so i could build a stack and win that one crucial pot of the night. i put it in as a huge favorite and i lost.

i shook tiny's hand when he offered it to me, smiled, and after joking and laughing with him about the hand and the games tonight, i stacked up my chips and left the table. i dunno... i didn't think i could play optimally any more after suffering two ridiculous beats within an hour. i cashed out $206. counting the $6 spent on the hot dog, my total winnings for the night was $12, or $1.50 an hour

...

on the 1 hr drive home, i kept telling myself, "if i can't handle being shit on by whatever the fuck is in charge of dealing out miracles on the river, i need to quit poker and go find a minimum wage job"

well that's not me.... and i'm not quitting

at least not yet

graduated and moved by hansen jr., June 24

Been a couple of weeks since I graduated so now I can finally focus a bit on poker and having fun. Moved three weeks ago with my gf to a two bedroom place which is nice since I can have my own office here. Will post pics of apartment later.

I'm going to US in two weeks where I'll be in new york, pennsylvania and washington. If you guys have any must sees you know in washington/new york please tell me. Hopefully will visit fazi in london before I go to us as well but that depends if I can get my passport very soon since idiot gb isn't a part of the schengen cooperation.

Been playing very little poker the last months due to moving/having a lot to do in school before graduation. But have obv been running good as usual up about 10bi in 6k hands which is nice since im rebuilding at a new site after I moved from ongame since they switched to the most horrible software I've seen. Probably won't be playing much this summer anyway as usual.

gl to everyone in vegas, especially the biggest us hero out there - evan

June so far - recap by Naib, June 24

Well, it isn't the end of the month yet, but since I turned 22 2 days ago I might as well update now.

Quoting from the June goals thread:

  On June 01 2009 03:31 Naib wrote:
[] Spiking my last few exams
[] Put in sick volume into learning, not just playing poker (I will finally have time, and I think I can get somewhere for once)
[] Score Platinum Star, if all goes well maybe I can Supernova it this year but that's a far-fetch. I need to jump limits for that so the poker gods should favor me.
[x] Keep up going to the gym 2-4 times a week (it already shows and I can feel the difference, too).
[] Snatch this summer job teaching chess for small children.
[] Actively look for opportunities getting my driver's license
[] English oral exam (I failed with like 2% last time, while I almost aced the written part). This is urgent.

Last two are more like "over the course of the summer" but better start preparing right now, after the exams are over (2 weeks, ONE TIME PLZ).

[x] SUCCESS
[] FAIL. I hardly played poker because I'm still busy it seems (wtf ). A lot of time spent with poker were put into reading articles though - half-success.
[] EPIC FAIL. I can forget about that.
[x] EPIC WIN. "Ripped Nerd Baller" is what Tasteless would say about me (well not quite there yet but on the way )
[] FAIL. Haha well who cares.
[x] WIN. One of my friends hooked me up with some cheap opportunity, and I also started practicing on our car with my father.
[] FAIL - so far at least. I really didn't bother looking into that yet.

Birthday: I degen'd it up and used the money I earned with hard work last year to buy myself an X-box, 2 controllers, and SFIV. Needless to say my friend (whom I go to the gym with) was pretty happy to hear that, haha. We've been melting each other's face ever since.

* DRUMROLL *

If you read the June goals thread, I updated it later with "Need to score this awesomely hot girl" or something.

Well

..

[X] SUCCESS. Wow fuck yeah. She's a real hottie and I'm the luckiest guy on Earth (even though this is hardly a relationship but I don't feel the need to blog about that here, sorry guys )

Anyway, I promised pics. Here's one:

MILD NSFW YOU WERE WARNED HERE!

+ Show Spoiler +

(Yes it looks like it's cut right out from Playboy or whatever else because it actually WAS photo-shot for and published in a men's magazine. Now you can envy me bitches .)

All in all: I might be scared to play a ton of poker because I'm running way EV+ in life atm - afraid that Poker would go EV- wise

Good luck at the tables LP!

finally going to vegas by whamm!, June 24

after almost two months of not playing my a-game a.k.a "running bad" (lol), i finally decide to go to vegas anyway and get out of this city im in, i think staying here after what's happened over the last two months IRL has really mindfucked me in a way i have never experienced before. this trip will most probably help me realize how small - i am, where i live, and how insignificant my problems are. travelling does that to me. plus the fact that i get to meet some, if not most lepers in vegas is something really huge for me, i mean, ive been posting here and msning some for over 2 years now, and meeting them for the first time will probably be quite something . im trying to sell the car i bought last march coz really i feel that fucking car has doomswitched my life since buying it, so yeah that thing has got to go. hope to see you guys there in vegas 2 days from now. i need the good "omen"

anyway this song is sick, "omen" by prodigy

Headed to Vegas by MARSHALL28, June 24

So I'll be spending the rest of the day tomorrow moving into my new pad w/ a bunch of friends from high school which I'm really stoked about especially since I get the master which is like 30x25ft or something similarly ridiculous. After that spending the day w/ my parents then driving out to Vegas to play some side games chill w/ some friends and play the main event. Thinking about playing either the 1500$ or the 5k$ 6max tourney also, not sure, have to see how it goes. Anyways, if anybody who's cool is gonna be in Vegas also drop me a PM or whatever. I'm definitely gonna go to the Leggo party and probably be grabbing drinks with a few other friends while I'm there. Gonna be there the 26th until, well, I guess however long I last in the ME, at least a week, maybe two or three. Let me know.
