Well, it has been close to 2 years since I have actually updated this blog and probably close to a year and a half since I have touched poker. A lot has gone on in my life and if you're bored and feel like reading please keep going.
So 2 years ago I was grinding 0.5/.10 NL 6 Max. I just graduated from college with a B.S in Kinesiology / Exercise Science from SUNY Cortland. I had no idea what I wanted to do, my degree basically enables me to become a glorified personal trainer. Other than that, I needed to go to Graduate School for something along the lines of Physical Therapy or Nursing. Not being sure what the hell I wanted to do and going through a hard time after the break up with my girlfriend I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. I joined a program called Americorps*NCCC, it's basically like the Peace Corps only done in America. I got accepted and in February 2008 I flew out to Denver, Colorado from New York where I would be based.
The first month reminded me a lot of Freshmen year of College living in dorms and meeting new people and constantly partying. My first two months of Americorps I did Wildland Firefighting. It was the one of the best times of my life. I lived with 9 other Corps members in a firehouse 8500 feet up in the mountains in a little village called Nederland about 20 miles from Boulder. The training I absolutely enjoyed and even got called out on a dispatch to fight a fire along with real HotShots. After that I really thought that I wanted to be a HotShot at least for a few summers.
After I came back from those 2 months I got switched to a new Americorps team, I learned that I was going to Little Rock Arkansas to build a camp up. That is where I met my present girlfriend / wife (more to come on this) Jennie. I didn't like her at first actually we hated each other. I was reading a book called "One Bullet Away" about becoming a Marine Officer which I was looking to pursue after Americorps. She was a hippie from Maine and I looked like a stupid jock. Hated each other. But then after we got down to talking while mixing mortar and laying brick together we began to have a lot more in common than we both thought. Unfortunately, she was dating another kid in Americorps and I had a huge crush on this other girl as well. We both kind of thought that there was no point in starting anything at all and ruining what we had. But then one night Sailor Jerry did all the talking. We both got really drunk off Sailor Jerry and made a bonfire, then Jennie almost burned down the whole woods when she found a gas can and it lit on fire and I had to tackle it to put it out. That night, we kissed and then everything changed.
The day after that night we got called out to Parkersburg, Iowa to help with tornado relief. The damage was insane with only the foundation being left on most houses. We worked 12 hours a day 5 days a week mucking out houses and the such. At this point Jennie and I were getting close having sex all the time and getting extremely serious. We would always joke that we would get married in Vegas and made lists of the top 100 things we wanted to accomplish before we died.
When we got back to Denver it was weird. I had all these friends who were just basically meatheads and had that girl that I had a little something with and she had her old boyfriend to deal with. It was a very tough time, and then we learned that we were going to be separated. So, we had 5 days off and I got the idea of taking a road trip and renting a car and just going west. It was awesome, we went to the Moab desert, the Grand Canyon, and then finally Vegas. In Vegas we only had $100 between the both of us, so I sat down at Let It Ride instead of boring her at the 1/2 poker tables. Needless to say I got a fullhouse and won 400 bucks. On that we got really drunk and had a great night in Vegas on the 4th of July. Then the next day we had to go back and as we were leaving she said, " I can't believe we came to Vegas and never got married." Within two seconds I whipped the car around and went right to the courthouse. The whole ordeal took 45 minutes and before we knew it we were married. On the way back home about 30 minutes after we left we stopped at a gas station and both puked our brains up. We were like WTF did we just do??!! we have to get this annulled. Too bad annullments cost $750!!!! we were fucked. 2 weeks later the marriage certificate was sent to my mothers house, and I got a voicemail saying, "Sean this is your Mom, did you get married? call me back".
The next few months were rough I was building houses in Mississippi and she was on another disaster relief in Texas. we fought constantly being away from each other and insecure. When we got back the fighting didn't stop and yet again we were separated for another two months, I went to New Orleans and she went to Texas again. By the end of Americorps we didn't know what to do if I went back to NY and she went to Maine we would break up. So, I decided to move to Bangor, Maine with her and live with her family and get a job. We decided we wanted to backpack through Europe right before summer began for a few months and needed to save up money.
So we both got jobs working at a cell phone company as a customer service rep. It sucked, but we did it for a month or so, and then moved to New York because my Aunt and Uncle said that they were going to FLorida and wanted us to sit the house. FUCKING SWEET RIGHT? Well yes and no. We got a job working as a canvasser for environmental organization knocking on peoples doors and asking for donations. Also, my bum of a friend from college came to live with us who turned out to be a total asshole, who ripped us off. Then we got kicked out of the house because my cousin came to visit and said that we demolished the place, even though it was spotless. And 2 weeks ago I just got a court order for $1500 for damage to their floors because of rain damage. Which, occurred after we were kicked out, good things I took pictures of the place before we left, because I knew they were going to pull some shit.
On April 1st, we left for Barcelona Spain. We hooked up with a program called Helpx.net where we had the opportunity to volunteer working on farms for free room and board. We were on a budget of $3,000 after paying for flights and an 8 day eurail pass. We lived very poor eating bread and cheese constantly, and sleeping in Hostels, trains, and airports. We loved every bit of traveling but I won't go into it too much because this is already so long. But we went to Spain, Portugal, and Italy, and we just got back a couple of weeks ago.
Now, I am in New York and her in Maine looking for jobs. It has been terrible with this this economy. I have no money and put 25 bucks on today and was trying to grind out 9 man SNG's lol. So, that's where I am right now. If you got this far, I hope you enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll see some of you low stake grinders at the table.
Just got done 24 tabling some PLO25 and played about 8k hands today and about 5k hands yesterday. Session today was much easier to handle but ran fucking awful lol, i never suggest anyone do this in there life, insane shit.

This guy ran like god vs me in about 15 pots, I 3bet him 100 percent of hands for about 200 hands also, hence how stacks are so deep on table.

finally finished exams. Been up like 30 hours straight learning like a madman for last one which I sort of underestimated. Drank 2 liters coffee or smthing and now i feel ubersleepy but can't fall asleep so i decided to play some pokers again. have to rebuild roll since i spewed a ton last few weeks up 2 Bi at 50nl and 2.4k roll. Gonna try 100nl again once i'm at 3K again. Table select well, play like a nit at first and only 3table at beginning of my shot and hopefully it won't end in total fail like last 2 times.
casinos are fun...hanging around others who are kinda ballers or rather are much more baller than meself is depressing..i hate sucking at poker alkeyhall is fun tho. not sure how i just got by on weed, but fack. fucking adolfo is a huge fail. fails at giving directions and fails at bringing adequate controllers so that we may engage in an epic smash. Ran 3 buyin under expected, overall I've taken 3 shots at 50nl this month and all total I'm running 9.5 buyins under expected. I understand variance happens, it just sucks that it happens during every attempt to move up I make.
I started playing poker again about a month ago and decided not to buy hem or pt3 because I thought I could easily beat 25NL. Well, it didn't work out quite well and after 30k hands or so I was breakeven and coincidentally my friend had an extra cd key for HEM and I bought it off of him. The graph is my results after getting HEM.
1) Looking at my non showdown winnings it looks terrible but after thinking about it, it seems to make sense (in my own world) that the money lost there would be where I would take a stab at the pot and fail and usually give up. The common advice given to many 25NLers is to never bluff so I guess it makes sense in a way where I would try to take down the pot on the turn, on a checked flop with 2 overcards and if I get called just give up. Hence the negative showdown winnings. If I'm wrong, I would love to be corrected
2) What does steal mean?
I'm rolled for 50NL and gonna move up after playing about a week at 25NL. Weeeeee
In my quest to become a great limit player. Began the game about 1 1/2 weeks ago being taught by a 5/10 10/20 reg and I have had some significant results.
Last time I posted a blog, early this month, I had just moved from Stars to iPoker with the intention of playing $3/$6 and moving up to $5/$10 and beyond asap, but I came back to Korea on the 8th and couldn't get any tables going on iPoker due to timezones so I've split my roll across FTP and Stars again. Before coming back to Korea, this month started pretty decently, being up $3k in the first 5 days of the month. Despite only playing 3k hands and running $7k below expectation it made me feel like I was getting back in the groove, winning in the way I used to, however since moving back to Stars/FTP I've been losing again despite running above expectation as you can see here:
I'm still up for the month including the $3k won on iPoker and $500 won in live games here in Korea, but I'm still super super tilted. I spent 50k hands on Stars 100NL over the last 2 months and was barely above breakeven, and now I'm playing some $1/$2 deep on FTP and doing even worse than breakeven. I've definitely ran bad in terms of running into more than my fair share of coolers, and not coolering people very often, simply not making many big hands to start with and not being able to hit shit in a reraised pot. I know that I can still win at $3/$6 and $5/$10, but can't I win at $0.50/$1 and $1/$2? I know I don't play my best games at those stakes, and I get tilted easily because the shit I see is so stupid and yet I'm still losing to it, but I used to crush these games when I was playing them, and I sucked back then. Ugh. I'm interested in sweating people who play these stakes, and also being sweated if anyone is up for that (PM me). Although I think that I think a lot deeper than most players at these stakes, maybe I simply overthink things and end up playing bad because of it, it's like I valuebet thin in a spot because I'm repping tons of missed draws and not many value hands and they end up tanking and calling with better. I bluff in some spots where I'm repping almost no bluffs at all and they snapcall with some garbage that sucks vs my entire range, unfortunately I always seem to have the wrong part of my range in these spots, maybe I bluff more than I think I do in some spots, I don't feel like I am, but maybe I actually am.
I'd talk some about my life but not too much has been happening. d.Apollo has been here for more than 2 weeks and we've been going out often, he's been "birdin'" a whole lot and we've been to the casino a couple of times too. I've finally quit wow and have been getting up earlier in the morning the last couple of days, allowing me to put in a shitton of hands (5.5k in the last 2 days). Also finally been going to the gym some, something that I've been talking about doing for ages but never went more than a couple of times before and never with any consistency. Hopefully I can continue working out, getting up early, putting in a lot of hands and hopefully start running good or figure out if/what I'm doing wrong sometime soon.

I decided that since 5nl and 2nl are the same (opponents skill wise) i'd play my entire br on 2 tables (i had ~6 dollars), i got it to 9 in about 300 hands or so...then i decided today that the best way to make monies is to 4 table. however, i didn't feel comfortable 4tabling 5nl with 9 dollars, so i split the money up evenly between 4 tables at 2nl. this worked, as i made profit on 2 of the tables, and busting out on the other two. I was up +7 on one table and +5 on the other. I also decided to play turbo tables only to get in more hands.
On the tables i busted out on... i got it in pf w/ kings, and the other dude turned up aces, they held.
On the other table... this is gay and pissed me off...i was playing heads up b/c the table died, and i realized it, but i was BB so i stayed in to play one more hand. I got AA. SB raises, i reraise, he 4bets, i shove, he calls... I'm thinking my aces are good hu right?? WRONG. flop is KJJ, he has KK, fml.
I'm sure the info is out there but whatever. Is it possible to register for the Main Event online or over the phone? I don't really feel like having to bring $10k+ in cash on the plane to Vegas if possible and there have been so many nightmare stories on people with their wires to casinos. Any advice for what I should do? Or if someone out there can hook me up with cash for Stars PM or post here too.
So after today I'm not down that much for the month. With some luck I might actually turn a profit if I can play decently these last few days. That break worked out very well. Don't have a lot to write except go Pinny and Saki in Vegas and Joe in Barcelona. I guess I'll try to join you guys next year.
I recently took a 2 and half week break to travel spain with some friends and my gf, taking a break from poker and hoping to get a fresh start to poker when i got back. It was pretty awesome, but now its back to work.
One of those sessions in there for about 1300 hands i had a flop set % of 28 haha. Yet i only won at show down 30% of the time and still managed to lose.
Following the same trend as of lately, I keep losing without understanding whats going on. Ive made roughly 4 in the past 100k hands, which is garbage and is really frustrating. I've have several people watch me and no one seems to spot anything major, but i've got to be doing something wrong. I used to have sick awesome tilt control, but now i get set off so easily simply because its been happening for so long. Hopefully i can keep my head straight and start winning again.

Just had a nice miniheater in PLO which made me think how huge the effect of variance in this game is, short-term. If I had some bad luck instead, it could have had been a -1,000 euro session quite easily.
