Life + EV by Zalfor, December 08

I haven't played much poker recently. Been going to the gym and getting life +EV.

Will have to play a bunch to clear my 500 bonus from FTP. But I'm not too worried. I got this imo. I still got another 10BI or so to go on nl25 before moving back to nl50, but not really worried about that either.

Gonna play some more maybe later today or tomorrow or something. Right now kind of tired.

Will be in vegas a lot this winter, anyone wanna hang out?

Always use a mouth guard in mma by NotSorry, December 08

So this morning I forgot my mouth guard in my car and decided "what the hell" and continued without it for the day, after warm ups and some drills we start rolling, I pick a 250lb ex-state wrestler to play with, after about 2mins of us fighting for take downs he gets me in an attempted guillotine, I tuck my chin in so their no danger of the choke, however just as I do that he squeezes with all his might and my bottom row of teeth go through my top row chipping the fuck out of a few of them and taking a large chunk out of one of my K9s.

Short Version: Stupidly didn't use mouth guard and got broken teeth

I'll toss some pics up shortly.

slowhabit by superfashion, December 08

i was reading slowhabit's book and got a pretty good laugh out of his name. definitely no disrespect meant considering the phenomenal player he is and his contributions to the community via his written work, but is his name pronounced "try men?"

Book Reviews by Edjon, December 08

Hi all,

The last couple of months I read a bunch of poker books and also wrote reviews on them.

Most of them are poker instruction books, but some are biographies or non-fiction stories. I try to write the reviews as critical as possible. So when I don't like it, I will argue why and vice versa.

Gus Hansen - Every Hand Revealed
Nice and fun read, but I think most players won't learn much from it.

Barry Greenstein - Ace on the River
About the life of a professional poker player.

Bob Ciaffone - Omaha Poker
A good book for players, who want to start omaha. Experienced players shouldn't read this.

Rolf Slotboom - Secrets of Professional Pot Limit Omaha
A more advanced book on PLO.

Anthony Holden - Big Deal
Anthony Holden - Bigger Deal
The story of a British writer who wants to be a poker pro. The first time in the eighties and the second time after the poker boom in the new millennium. Many interesting background stories.

Danny Ashman - Secrets of Short-handed No Limit Holdem
Book written by a high stakes online player. Gives insight in the factors influences decision making during poker.

Dan Harrington on Cash Games Volume I
Maybe this book is suitable for live players, but for online play this book contains a lot of non-optimal advice.

Nolan Dalla & Peter Alson - One of a Kind
Biography on Stu Ungar. A story of growing up in Manhattan, gambling and drugs.

Ian Taylor & Matthew Hilger - The Poker Mindset
A book on the right attitude for playing poker. I really liked this one.

I hope you appreciate and like these reviews.

Tunica casino poker by WastedGate, December 08

So I finally got to my new apt in tunica where I will be staying while going to tournament dealer school. Got to play casino poker for once. Found a 1/3 game that was five handed till I showed up. Everyone one was sitting on around 100-175 except for some fat redneck guy wearin 80s multicolor mirrored shades. He was sitting on 250 or so. He was to my left so I avoided him. He whined when I'd raise on his button and 3bet me one time and that was it.

I had a fun time chipping up quickly pretty lagish for the most part. I'd never felt quite so confident while bluffing as I did tonight. It was a fuckin blast. This poor stuttering fish didn't give me credit for a single hand after I bet a draw ealy for a medium pot. This worked out great since every hand that I got into with him from that point on involved me having him crushed and stacked him.
Some old rich looking guy sat down later with a "Nickel" in five tall stacks of five dollar chips and proceded to nit it up the whole time. He'd limp call then check fold...a lot. He asked me to chop a medium sized pot that he had hit mid pair and I had an oesd. I obliged which was prolly -ev short term but I'm hoping it pays off later somehow.

Big hand of the night inolved the tilted stutter guy and another rich guy. The two of them were two seats to my right. Tilty bumps it to 13 and gets a snap call from rich. I wake up with QQ and make it 58 from the cutoff. They both call. Flop comes Q75 rainbow and tilty bets like 45. Richy flats and I start spamming the bet pot button on the felt and make it 185 or something and get called by both of them. Turn comes a T and tilty ships his last 20 or so dollars and then richy calls and I ship another hundo on top of that..rich guy tanks and folds...lol. River is blank and tilty shows TT for an under set to my queens and goes busto by my hands for the 2nd time. Ship the monster pot and I left 30 minutes later with 585 after losing decent pot AK

Long time no post by 27s, December 08

Haven't posted on here in forever. Tried moving up in stakes a year ago and got crushed and took my shattered ego and ran lol. Been grinding back up and am now mass tabling .25/.50 on stars fullring. Should be able to make nova by the end of the year. Came across a cool site http://phatstackspoker.com that helped me fix a few leaks. Other than that things are going pretty good now. Hope to see you all at the tables.

biggest pot lost (~$2.5K) by tutz_x, December 08

Sup LPers?!
just came home from my daily live poker grind and I just lost the biggest pot of my life
I'm on mega tilt right now
let me tell the hand, I'm on desperate need to share it
The game is R$ 5/10 NLHE
$1 = R$1.70

The table is 9-handed
ME: ~R$1,950
UTG: ~R$3,000
I'm on the SB and the UTG straddle for R$50, two MP calls, I was delt AdAs and raise to R$250. UTG calls the two MP fold. UTG is an old rich guy that loves to see flops and has no idea at all about what he is doing, he just wanna have fun. Ok, the flop brings: 9cTc2h. I bet R$600 he snapcalls. Turn: Qh, I shove for something like R$1K and he snapcalls again and shows: 9h5h.
Final pot: R$ 4,100 (~$2.5K)
River: 7h

First losing day since I started grinding live this month (you can see why on a recent post here)
I feel like a true gambler.

GL GUYS!

Hendo and The Law by NotSorry, December 08

Saturday we (Team Quest) had our grand opening (well reopening in a much larger building) anyways to mark the occasion Dan Henderson and Matt Lindland came out for a seminar and a bbq. Fun day, went over some technical clinch work and using gnp to manipulate positioning then just kind of goofed around as we had an open gym for the community to come check the new place out. We had a good turn out, probably around 300-400 people showed up for the opening, which may not seem like much for some places but for this little town that's alot. Bad news, my camera's batteries were dead so got very few pics (only cell phone and ones I took on friend's cameras). The local news came down and did an interview with Dan and Matt, and are going to be doing a piece on our fight team in the coming weeks so we're very excited about that.

7 days in by Night2o1, December 07

stuck like 6bi for the month, played a solid 25 hours which is OK for 1 weeks work (probably spent 5 hours studying books + these forums so..). I guess -6bi is better than -16bi.

fucking worst reg in the history of poker runs like god vs me (like he *always* does) and wins 6 buyins from me

I was playing mega good earlier today, thought processes were clear, confident in my decision making (even when I followed through and hit the wrong part of their range or w/e, I felt good). I can't keep it up when I keep getting crapped on.. bleh atleast I didn't tilt really. I know the last 1/2 of today I wasn't exactly.. tilted, but I wasn't 100% either like I was my 1st session.

I'm going to go stay at my dad's for 2-3 weeks (tentatively, could possibly turn into longer but there are certain drawbacks to being out in the middle nowhere aka where my dad lives). He has an extremely nice house sitting on 13 beautiful acres so.. being out of this chaotic house will probably help me. Its hard never having more than 2 or 3 peaceful days over the past 2-3 months.. I'll still be grindin' and trollin' ya'll so don't worry about that

Forgot if I mentioned it but a week or so ago I went and ordered a new passport as well. cool imo~

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/954a3.lol.jpg
that incredible redline rofl wasn't bad play it was just me getting fucked.. I stuck it through playing OK and then get coolered by that fucking idiot reg twice for 2bi each time. annnnd that broke the camels back so here I am semi-ragingggggggg
I know I'm only down 4bi for the day but losing like 4bi in nonshowdown in 500 hands is extremely tilting, then getting hit 'n run HU by that retarded reg in our 1st hand for 2bi and on another table losing 2bi to the same cuntmuscle within 5 second. omg.

Alright I feel much better now <3
happy time~

5/10 Victory by PanoRaMa, December 07

I don't think I'll be playing for the next few days. I have a plane flight to Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon and then the day after that I'm going to Macau for the Red Dragon Grand Finals (2.6k live donkament and a bunch of smaller donkaments, basically). Have a lot of things to take care of but before my mini break I wanted to declare my own personal victory.

In April my friend who crushes high stakes nl and plo and has always given me brilliant advice told me (as a stricly only 2/4 player then) that I should break out of my comfort zone and start shot taking 3/6 and 5/10. 3/6 went went well, and still is. I'm about 5ptbb at 3/6 since then, but 5/10 for the most part had been a disaster. Well, I can finally say that I'm a winner at 5/10 this year :D. Those who have followed my blog know my battle with 5/10, which so far has only lasted 29k hands (over the course of several months as there were times where I had given up completely, only to restart again), so I'm happy to report good news about it finally.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/510v.png

Also a quick hand to share:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/774688 - Ran good, near 600bb pot, I'd been barreling and overbetting him the last 3 hands against him (he even resorted to raising turns IP with made/marginal hands just to avoid getting river overbet on), knew that if he had any piece of this board he would put in a ton of money.
