So this morning I forgot my mouth guard in my car and decided "what the hell" and continued without it for the day, after warm ups and some drills we start rolling, I pick a 250lb ex-state wrestler to play with, after about 2mins of us fighting for take downs he gets me in an attempted guillotine, I tuck my chin in so their no danger of the choke, however just as I do that he squeezes with all his might and my bottom row of teeth go through my top row chipping the fuck out of a few of them and taking a large chunk out of one of my K9s.

Short Version: Stupidly didn't use mouth guard and got broken teeth

I'll toss some pics up shortly.

mouth guards primary purpose aren't for teeth btw. They are to protect your brain. the shock from the punches and impacts on your jaw, especially your lower one directly connects with your brain stem. If hit hard enough with no protection you may end up with some serious brain damage. By that time a few teeth are the least of your worries.

moral of story: use your fuckin mouth guard!

I'm glad you didn't take even more serious injury. Good cheap early lesson imo.

that's what the little paper is for when you first walk in the door, you are responsible for you.

i roll with mouthguard in about 50% of the time. sometimes its worrisome when you got a newb down and pass to side control and they are still trying to hold on to the guillotine but are just smashing your teeth in. whenever that happens though i drive my elbow/forearm into their face as hard as i can. dont be afraid to get dirty if a newb does something stupid that isnt good technique and can further injury you. if they get upset just explain to them after.

anyone above one stripe should know that if you dont have the guillotine on the neck and you are on the face to let go of it since its not gonna tap anyone and just gonna waste their energy and hurt their opponent a lil.

Hey Im slinging mad volume and fat stackin benjies I dont got time for spellin n shit - skinny pete

actually re-reading it kinda sounds like he had it on the neck and you pulled out really hard and hurt your teeth. yea thats just an accident that happens i guess.

the lesson here isnt to wear a mouth guard. its to not let a wrestler guillotine you ;]
