Year Summary + house pics by Fayth, December 18

Well the year didn't go quite as planned due to a few things i mentionned in earlier blog post... but I'm still happy with my results, I think I've done somewhat fine...

I don't have any graph for you guys cuz I don't track my hands and I play several sites... I'm just way too lazy to open PT everytime and learn to track hands on a few software I never bothered trying... so yeah I still keep in mind my results every month...

Here's how it looks like:
January: +$107 000
February:+$130 000
March: +$50 000
April: +$124 000
May: +$95 000
June: +$17 000
July: +$80 000
August: +$10 000
September:+$10 000
October: +$30 000
November: +$93 000
December: +$44 000

Extra: -$16 000 (deposited money on stryyke poker, ongame network at that time, seems to be cake now, never paid me, they seem to be busto)

December is not done yet so I might make an extra 10 or 20k but I won't play as much as usual due to christmas, going out to see family a lot etc.

Let's hope I manage to make 1mill in 2010, and anyone who's coming to PCA, see you there!

Here are a bunch of pictures of my house as promised, bathroom upstairs isn't totally done yet but you have a decent idea of how it's going to look like...

whats the point by Into Infinity, December 18

whats the point of me even playing poker anymore... i cashed out most of my roll at the start of the month, mainly so i can 1) buy presents and 2) reevaluate my game.

but when i run 10-20 BIs below EV every week, is there even a point to me playing anymore? i am fucking cursed, it's unreal how bad i run...even at micros where people throw money at me...

nl100 shot by LemOn[5thF], December 18

Thats right, after discussion with my coach I have decided to take a 5 BI shot at NL100.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/580c9.KEKE.png
I think the main reason for me is that my in game skills are good enough to do so, but I also plan to keep my Supernova while having a full time job, and that would be damn hard playing only NL50.
I have abandoned my plan to move up at $4k and take a 10BI shot, but I will instead be taking aggressive 5BI shots and go back to NL50 at $3k.

At the beginning I played really badly/nitty/spewy for no reason. I also spewed about 6BI in those 2.5K hands because I overestimated the regs really badly. They seem to be the same not enough adjusting regs like those at NL50, they just spew a lot less.

So I guess its my usual NL50 routine - brutal table selection, lag preflop + nitty postflop against the regs, and exploiting the fish with whatever I have in my arsenal thats suitable.
And as I don't think I will be able to keep this up at more than 4 tables, I might also do some 6-8 tabling at NL50.

Long term goal
Still stands -hit $10k to go pro next summer to pay my way through last year of university (My dad will chip in roughly for my rent and I will start saving some cash from my Salary. Beginning January lol.)

If I maintain my SN I will hit that goal just by being a FPPro. Hope that it won't have to come to this though.

f*ck u ipoker by hansen jr., December 18

"Dear Viktor,

If you are not already aware iPoker will be implementing a new policy in the New Year which will categorise players depending upon certain criteria. The new policy will also impose penalties upon card rooms that in essence, have a high proportion of winning players in relation to losing players.

Regrettably therefore, we are being forced to restrict a number of accounts in order to comply with the new policy and to avoid penalisation by iPoker and it grieves me to inform you that we have no option for the time being other than to restrict the cash game stakes at which you can play on Victor Chandler Poker.

We sincerely regret having to take this action and hope that the policy will change in the future so that you may once again enjoy playing cash games at Victor Chandler Poker. In the meantime, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this action will cause but know that you can still play in our tournaments and on any other of the Victor Chandler suite of products.

Yours sincerely,

Victor Chandler Poker"

i guess i knew this was coming
prob wont be able to play until after new years then

blah by barbieman, December 18

I'm so tired and frustrated atm, switched to PLO50 from NL100 after running bad and having a break-even month in 20k hands.

This month I've played 13k hands, -$100, only running $400 under EV but I'm also losing what feels like a ton on sets. How fuckin often can ppl hit their flushes when i have 1-2x pot left?? At least it's easier for me to take running bad on PLO50 than on nl100. It can turn around much faster + my edge is bigger.

I just need to put in more hands and work even harder, eventually it will turn around. It's just so frustrating and tiring to run bad for 2 months. But I'm proud of one thing, I'm handling running bad much better than before. It seems as if my mind is starting to emotionally accept variance. Which is fucking great.

Shipped 25k by k2o4, December 17

For the nonprofit I work part time for, The PeaceJam Foundation: Sick 25k ship

Chase bank decided to give away $5 million via Facebook by doing online voting. For 1 month any non-profit in the guidestar database (over 500,000) was eligible to get a vote. The top 100 vote getters would take home 25k and move on to round 2. I found out about this when it first started and went crazy on trying to get PJ enough votes, and yesterday the results came in and we made the top 100!!! Ship it.

The next round is only the top 100 and starts on January 15th, lasting 1 week. First place of round 2 gets $1 million, and the next 5 get $100k. We're going for 1st place and I'm hoping LP can help get us there. So on Jan 15th I'm gonna start asking you guys to help out cause this money will make a GIGANTIC difference for PeaceJam. This is one of those rare times where you'll get to take minute and make a huge difference.

Anyway I'm super happy that we made the top 100 and that people came out to vote and support us. To get 1st place in the next round ain't gonna be easy, but I'm sure with the help of the poker and BW worlds we could totally get it done =)

For the long term by superfashion, December 17

This is going to be a big, ranty blog full of moaning and uncertainty so if you don't want to read something like that, you should probably ctrl-f4 this tab now.

I'm currently going to a small college by my house because I didn't really apply anywhere since I was about 1 month away from going to play junior hockey. I'm on what is almost a full ride but my GPA is slipping and I'm afraid of losing my scholarship. If I lose my scholarship I can't transfer anywhere basically, but on the other hand I have no "conventional" interests - I've never been interested in having a 9-5 job or anything like that. Maybe it's naive or stupid but I don't know. Basically I think college is a waste of money because I don't want to live the rest of my life working a job I hate, and I can really only see myself going that direction if I'm to finish college and slip into a standard lifestyle. I have a lot of money saved up for a 19 year old but obviously not nearly enough to live on for more than a few years.

I'm sure a lot of you guys are in the same boat of not wanting a "real" job and being really uncertain with where the future is going to take you...any thoughts/experiences?

Quit Poker by Big_Rob_48, December 17

Hey guyz whats up, I haven't been posting on the forums much lately at all but I have been playing a lot. So I came to a realization yesterday when talking to a friend because I said that if I had a paying job I would NEVER play poker again. Essentially, I would never have an urge to play, even if I made double the $$$ from poker that I made in my job. Anyway, lately played mostly 100 nl the last few months and my winrate is like 2 pt bb I would think, definitely not something worth doing for a living. I made 110k from poker 2 years ago while playing 50 hours a month and doing college, now I can barely make 60k with it being my sole commitment. I just came to the realization today that I would rather do almost anything than play poker, ANYTHING. I mean, if I was making 100k playing ssnl-msnl 30 hours a week, it still wouldn't be worth it ( I don't think).

The games are ridiculous these days compared to 2-3 years ago. Specifically, less donks, I think that is truly the only way I used to make my money. Now I play half the stakes, the players are twice as good, and my winrate is half as much. Fucking shitty. And the worst part is, is that I have gotten much better than I used to be. A lot of guys say that this is a stupid comment and that I just need to get better, well I think you guys just have a higher ceiling than me when it comes to poker talent.

I absolutely hate playing everyday, the times I used to like to play are like 1-2 times a week for maybe 4-6 hours. After long sessions I find it extremely hard to just relax. I think most of all is that I want something to be passionate about, and if I am not passionate about it (9-5 job) have it at least be somewhat easy. I think I just have a hard time fitting a normal social life into the framework of being an online poker player, I can't do it, I don't know how others do it unless they have many other friends that play online poker as well (I have zero, have almost never grinded with anyone).

So for now I don't know if I will be posting here anymore at all. If I continue to play poker it will probably be like 50k hands a month until I find something I want to do. I am 23 and am in my first year since graduating from college. I think I may want to go back to school for 2 years to be a high school teacher, or use my finance degree to get a 9-5 job right now(scary tho). I think the only real reason I played poker was because it was an easy out. I handled a transitional period in my life extremely bad (high school-college) because it was the first time in my life I didn't know what to do, it took me 2 years to get into a groove and be comfortable with where my life was going. But that was just a temporary relief, I now have no idea where my life is going again, and I really hope I make the right decisions quicker so I don't always feel like I need to make changes to make me feel satisfied with my place in the world.

I don't know how I will look back on my 4 years playing online poker, if it will be with regret or pride at making over 200k. I do think that I am glad I went down this road because it has made me a much better person because the game of poker makes someone understand themselves and their emotions so much better. I also think I know what I want from life much more, the value that is placed on social interactions is incalculable. I think I will be a much more unselfish person because of poker (as weird as it sounds). I also have much love for LP and think you guys almost always exhibit genuine humbleness and perspective, I think poker can have the ability to make people quite a bit wiser in a short period of time. I remember after playing for a few months I thought I was good and made a post in a guys poker hand thread saying something like "that is so fucking stupid" and Myth came in the next post and bitch smacked me by telling me to have some manner. That was one of my most memorable early times at lp because I learned a lot quickly after that.

So now I have 110k in my bank account that I saved up because I am so nitty irl : ) I think what I want to do is

1 figure out asap what I want to do with my life on a very long term committed plan

2 work out a lot

3 have a great time with my friends as much as possible, doing as many different hobbies as i can juggle

4 when I am not doing something really fun with my friends get to bed by midnight and wake up the next day ready to do something forward and productive with my life

Sorry for the emo post, but I am pretty down right now. I know these posts happen a lot these days, so please share your views as well, and potential criticisms too. I think it would be cool to hear other people's plan for the next few years of their life as well as your thoughts on poker after doing it for 3 or 4 years

And to leave an image so you can put a face to my screen name, here are 3 pics of me, Orange AnF shirt, guy, and red shorts about to jump off a 40 ft + waterfall in Hawaii this October (that is just one of the many things I am thankful for the opportunity for because of poker $$$ )

Bullshit day imo by Night2o1, December 17

Failing at not checking results when I know I'm having some incredible bullshit happening to me Going to work on it.. Part of the reason I checked today to make sure my roll wasn't in danger tho.

Bleh first 1000 hands I lost $1000 at 1/2 and had an EV of $0(edit: turns out I exaggerated the EV/misread the graph u can see in comments). It has continued this theme until the 3500th hand where I'm wrapping up my 4th session today at -$500 and an EV of $200. (I moved down to nl100 after hand 1000 at 1/2)

This shit doesn't need to happen every 3rd day in such extreme ways does it? Can't I just have a smooth week or two for once.. please..

Still feeling goodish overall, just so tired of getting slapped in the face like a dick biting whore everytime I start to have a good profit for a month or play 1/2.... naw mean?

Small Stakes HU Reg? by Oly, December 17

Are you a heads up reg on NL50/NL100? Then you are fucking scum. There is no more disgusting pathetic bottom feeding cowards than you in the entire poker world. ALL OF YOU. WITHOUT EXCEPTION. I MEAN YOU. I would prefer to let a shortstack have his way with my arsehole without lubricant and razors tied to his little cock than to kill your mother since that would involve being in the same vicinity as 50% of your genes.

I come home drunk and hope to muck around at small stakes heads up. But NO! no such luck will I get the chance to donk off some money to an aspiring small stakes reg, cos the minute I fold my big blind I'M OBVIOUSLY WAY TOO FUCKING GOOD. I don't limp k3 on the button and OMG HE'S FUCKING DURRRR ON A SMURF ACCOUNT, QUICK RUN TO MY SISTER'S BEDROOM FOR A COMFORTING HUG FROM THAT SCARY PRO THAT WILL MAYBE TURN INTO A LITTLE FINGERING SESSION.

You even make up excuses. Saying bullshit like you have to go now you are just finishing your session or some shit. At least you could be honest. At least you could just say "I am a fucking bumhunting coward; I have done my entire poker effort by watching the first three videos in pr1nnyraiding which I will now follow with religious obsession, except I'll be somewhat tighter - like my arsehole used to be before my sister and her strap-on got anywhere near it, cos I am shit at poker and I'm too shit at life to improve at poker.

Quite honestly, in my 3 years since I first started mucking around with poker, you are the worst I have seen. Out of all the pathetic down-and-out nobodies in casinos, all the transfer request scammers, all the busto degens begging for stakes; out of all the scum that floats around the poker world, you are the lowest. It is something about your pernicious failure than to be anything other than the minimum. At least you could fail with glory or something. But no, you grind out $10 an hour (if that) and are too fucking coward to put yourself in any situations where you might learn something cos that might risk your precious fucking $10/hr.

And just to be clear, if you are a HU reg at NL50/NL100 I mean you PERSONALLY. Cunt.

NL25 Rollercoastin by SCC-Faust, December 17

I recall a few people on Liquidpoker saying that there is no substantial variance at lower limits (uNL).

First off, that is total bullshit. It angered me just remembering anyone was stupid enough to even say that.
The past two days I've run 6 buyins under EV. However, this blog isn't to complain about bad beats or analyze the hands where I lost.

I'm trying to get more into poker. I started with $10 and am now around $750. My life earnings is over $1,000 but I've cashed out quite a bit. This December is really my first month where there is commitment to my game and putting hours in. However, the lack of people to discuss and converse with is kind of bothering me. My reviewing is pretty much me-exclusive where I'll page through my hands where I lost and analyze if it was +EV and how I could've played the hand better based off the knowledge I think I know. So, it is possible that through some time frame that I'm teaching myself bad habits without the help or review of others. All you NL25'ers fucking add me on MSN: Autumnsolace@live.com

But more discussion about poker. NL25 doesn't even have a real poker feel to me. My whole process behind it is robotic. Even though I only 6-table, there seems to be a simple enough formula to win at this limit. Lots of cbetting with hands that have some equity or draw, check-raising people with high cbets on dry flops that haven't hit their perceived range, and just play aggressively. I've been having a lot of fun just trying new things and learning more about poker. And I hit a pretty big session today after going through hell. Graph related.

k folks I need to post here more. fukc

Dispute resolution in competitive gaming by vltava, December 17

In chess tournaments, all players, from tykes who have barely ceased to wear diapers, to seniors who have taken it up again, learn the protocol of quietly stopping the clock and seeking out a director. In bridge tournaments, where the median age is about sixty, an aggrieved player feebly calls out "director" at a volume slightly above the standard hushed table chatter, and helplessly waits for someone to show up. In Magic, the teenage pro screams "JUDGE!" and imperiously waits for his demand to be met. Poker players, generally aged twenty-one and up, tend to have the good fortune of having floor personnel nearby, and can call out for a director or floorman in a reasonable voice and it doesn't take long for disputes to be resolved.

Harbor no illusions, however, about poker players being sensible or having good manners; as a group, the way they play their cards and the decorum with which they address their tablemates should quickly quash any such notion. They produce significantly more cash flow for the hosts of their events than other gamers do, which inclines the staff to be more sensitive to their needs. In this regard, poker sits at an odd threshold between other kinds of gaming and other kinds of gambling. Poker brings casinos negligible profit compared to traditional casino games, but by comparison chess, bridge, and Magic tournaments as capitalistic ventures are a joke for tournament organizers, who tend to be motivated more by the love of the game and the service to their gaming community.
