Good things:

Won money
Crushed 5/10 NL
Learned a lot - I feel my NL game might be back on pair with the best it's ever been.
Put in decent volume considering I spent the first week in Bulgaria and two weekends with my parents.

Bad things:
Didn't win as much money as I wanted
Got crushed in omaha
Did not play as I hoped.

Goals for July:

60k hands minimum, preferably mostly 5/10 NL.

Get better at poker again. Last month I studied the game for a few hours and learned a decent bit. I need to keep that up.

The 6 first months of 2010

I'm not playing as many hands that I had hoped for, but I'm up approximatly what I had hoped for. Well on my way to another 6 figure year (this time excluding rakeback) so if I keep this up it'll be my best year so far. I'm very, very happy with my results on 5/10, both PLO and NL, but unfortunatly I've lost a fair bit of money higher due to everything from bad luck, bad play and worse game selection. I think I'm getting the hang of some of what's wrong though, so I might get that to work out better soon.

First of all, Netherlands wins, then Spain wins (if they lost id lose 50$ to player999), then i just played some sit and go just like old times 15 months ago, but only the 12$ 180 mans and 45 mans, none of the 6.50, which i used to grind too. and i ran somewhat well i guess.

The month started very hot playing only headsup,dropped my job to only play them, then i started playing bad again i guess. I think it was night2o1 that said something about sample size, and I guess he was right

so anyways i played a lot of husng + hypers 22$ in order to get back to gold star at least, and get enough fpp for the turbo takedown, where i went down quite early.

10ish days ago i restarted playing a couple sngs and I ran SUPER FUCKEN HOT, which lead me to play more, and my graph just skyrocketed.

Gonna go on vacation next week, hoping i dont lose the touch while im off.

so basically i wanna get a tattoo, definitely NOT in english, and i was thinking either in some type of eastern asian...maybe chinese or japanese symbols. i want it to say "happiness comes from within" i can design it myself i just dont know which language to get it in and/or how to translate it. i obviously dont wanna get something and have it be wrong. any help in the right directions would help. thanks.

Spoiler-free guide to some stuff I watched recently. I went through 70 pages of "hidden gems" etc threads and some of those are here.


The Idiots
Absolutely fucking fantastic film about a group of people who decide live their lives completely without inhibition and in the realms of psychosis, in a disturbingly self-destructive fashion. One of the best movies of all time.

Exam
Cheesey simplistic dialogue brings together eight candidates for a "top secret" job in business. They are left in an empty room and have to determine which one of them is fit for the job. A little reminiscent of The Cube and tries to be a "mindfuck" movie so is worth watching.

In Bruges
Two hitmen with quirky personalities are sent to Belgium to await their next orders. Worth watching but don't expect anything mindblowing.

K-PAX
A man is admitted to a mental ward claiming to be a tourist from a more advanced planet. captivating and keeps you guessing till the end. An absolute must-watch and may become one of your all-time favourites.

Let the right one in
Spooky film about a boy who meets a mysterious 12 year old girl. Recommended about 10 times in the tlnet movie thread. Film is SWE so watch with subs (the dubbing is ghastly).

Kopps
Lighthearted SWE flick about a group of redneck cops who try to find a way to stop their shitty police station from getting shut down. Was more watchable than I thought it'd be but not LOL funny (except one part at the end!).

Everything is illuminated
Harry potter kid fucks off to rural Ukraine to track down a distant relative. Starts off upbeat but gets depressing pretty fast, focusing on people's uphappy war-time history. Might be your cup of tea (would help if you can speak Ukraine as a quarter of the movie is unsubbed).

Eastern Plays
Atmospheric slice of life movie about 2-3 young Bulgarian men living in Sofia. Nothing happens in this movie, and I enjoyed it nethertheless.

Memento
Guy with no short term memory capability tries to track down a killer by leaving himself notes. A classic.

She's out of my league
Man-chick-flick that isn't funny or interesting. Gets worse as time goes on and I turned it off with 2o minutes to go (maybe I missed some serious mindfuck ending? At one point you think there's going to be an awesome twist but it turns out to be massive phail).

500 Days of Summer
Man-chick-flick that is soooooooooo fucking awesome. Entertaining nomatter who you are.

Threads
Very old movie filmed in the style of a BBC documentary. Shows the lives of some common people in Sheffield before, during and after Britian is nuked to oblivion. One of my alltime favs.

Band of brothers
This is a 10-part series revolving around a platoon of men sent into war. Each episode is a self-contained mini-movie with some continuation (people being promoted or dying etc). Get a bag of weed and set aside 1-2 days to watch this asap.

The boys and girls guide to getting down
Fun comedy/pretend documentary following young persons' "night out".

Alice in wonderland (2010)
Aghh this was so bad I seriously didn't enjoy it.

Braindead
Comedy gore flick about a "nice guy" who finds his mother turned into a zombie and then tries to look after her while the world goes to pot around him. Literally the goriest movie you have EVER seen. No other movie comes this close to making you feel physically ill, and its all in good humour. Don't watch this alone, you will just end up feeling sick.

City of god
Epic movie about gang warfare in south american slums. Shows some really shitty culture (little kids with guns are evil).

Got this off our local car club forum, thought id share.

One thing that has always bugged me, and I'm sure it does most of you, is to sit down at the dinner table only to be interrupted by a phone call from a telemarketer.
I decided, on one such occasion, to try to be as irritating as they were to me. The call was from AT&T and it went something like this:
Me: (swallowing) Hello
AT&T: Hello, this is AT&T...
Me: Is this AT&T?
AT&T: Yes, this is AT&T...
Me: This is AT&T?
AT&T: Yes This is AT&T...
Me: Is this AT&T?
AT&T: YES! This is AT&T, may I speak to Mr. Byron please?
Me: May I ask who is calling?
AT&T: This is AT&T.
Me: OK, hold on.
At this point I put the phone down for a solid 5 minutes thinking that, surely, this person would have hung up the phone. I ate my salad. Much to my surprise, when I picked up the receiver, they were still waiting.
Me: Hello?
AT&T: Is this Mr. Byron?
Me: May I ask who is calling please?
AT&T: Yes this is AT&T...
Me: Is this AT&T?
AT&T: Yes this is AT&T...
Me: This is AT&T?
AT&T: Yes, is this Mr. Byron?
Me: Yes, is this AT&T?

Me: The phone company?
AT&T: Yes sir.
Me: I thought you said this was AT&T.

Me: Well whatever it is, I'm really not interested but thanks for calling.
When you are not interested in something, I don't think you can express yourself any plainer than by saying "I'm really not interested," but this lady was persistent.
AT&T: Mr. Byron, we would like to offer you 10 cents a minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Now, I am sure she meant she was offering a "rate" of 10 cents a minute, but she at no time used the word "rate." I could clearly see that it was time to whip out the trusty old calculator and do a little ciphering.
Me: Now, that's 10 cents a minute 24 hours a day?
AT&T: (getting a little excited at this point by my interest) Yes sir, that's right! 24 hours a day!
Me: 7 days a week?
AT&T: That's right.
Me: 365 days a year?
AT&T: Yes sir.
Me: I am definitely interested in that! Wow!!! That's amazing!
AT&T: We think so!
Me: That's quite a sum of money!
AT&T: Yes sir, it's amazing how it adds up.
Me: OK, so will you send me checks weekly, monthly or just one big one at the end of the year for the full $52,560, and if you send an annual check, can I get a cash advance?
AT&T: Excuse me?
Me: You know, the 10 cents a minute.
AT&T: What are you talking about?
Me: You said you'd give me 10 cents a minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. That comes to $144 per day, $1,008 per week and $52,560 per year. I'm just interested in knowing how you will be making payment.
AT&T: Oh no, sir, I didn't mean we'd be paying you. You pay us 10 cents a minute.
Me: Wait a minute here!!! Didn't you say you'd give me 10 cents a minute? Are you sure this is AT&T?
AT&T: Well, yes this is AT&T sir but......
Me: But nothing, how do you figure that by saying that you'll give me 10 cents a minute that I'll give you 10 cents a minute? Is this some kind of subliminal telemarketing scheme? I've read about things like this in the Enquirer, you know. Don't use your alien brainwashing techniques on me.
AT&T: No sir, we are offering 10 cents a minute for.....
Me: THERE YOU GO AGAIN! Can I speak to a supervisor please!
AT&T: Sir, I don't think that is necessary.
Me: Sure! You say that now! What happens later?
AT&T: What?
Me: I insist on speaking to a supervisor!
AT&T: Yes Mr. Byron. Please hold.
So now AT&T has me on hold and my supper is getting cold. I begin to eat while I'm waiting for a supervisor. After a wait of a few minutes and while I have a mouth full of food:
Supervisor: Mr. Byron?
Me: Yeth?
Supervisor: I understand you are not quite understanding our 10 cents a minute program.
Me: Id thish Ath Teeth & Teeth?
Supervisor: Yes sir, it sure is.
I had to swallow before I choked on my food. It was all I could do to suppress my laughter and I had to be careful not to produce a snort.
Me: No, actually, I was just waiting for someone to get back to me so that I could sign up for the plan.
Supervisor: OK, no problem, I'll transfer you back to the person who was helping you.
Me: Thank you.
I was on hold once again and managed a few more mouthfuls. I needed to end this conversation. Suddenly, there was an aggravated but polite voice at the other end of the phone.
AT&T: Hello Mr. Byron, I understand that you are interested in signing up for our plan?
Me: Do you have that friends and family thing because you can never have enough friends and I'm an only child and I'd really like to have a little brother...

Hmmm so the game turned out to be 2-5 even tho it was advertised at 1-2.

Major pots: Double straddle of $15, $30. Two limpers, I shove with JJ, and get a call from A6o. He covers, pot is ~650.

Flop comes 266 and runs out without a J.

Straddle to $10, UTG (short with only about ~120 left) shoves. I shove over with about $350 with AQs in MP and BOTH BLINDS CALL and I'm like...I'm soooo not good.

UTG turns over 44, blinds turn over 77 and 99. Flop comes 235 rainbow. Turn hits a 6.

Folds around to SB. He sits with 650 or so, I cover. Active villain opens from SB for $15, I'm in BB. I 3-bet with A4s to $50, he calls. Flop comes 339. He bets $60, I raise to $150, he calls. Turn is a 7. He checks, I bet $200, he shows TT and folds.

I told them in reverse order, so I busted with JJ =(

Sick soft game tho, need to get back there next weekend.

Hey,

So i ll be most likely going to Cologne to study since October++.However i know a lot of people there that tell me i wont be able to find a flat to rent with my 2 other friends without using some sort of company to find one for us and take like 2k euro just for that.They told me no one would give an apartament to 3 18 year olds foreigners.I just want to double check it with someone that actually lives there their whole life ( or most of it ? :D ) Is there really no way to get a decent flat without spending 10k eu just for companies, rents and kaution( well dunno english word )? Damn i dont want to be forced to live in some shitty place given to me by studentenwerk. All info is welcome !

I've noticed that over the last few years it's been very hard to find a good game to play, especially something with high re-playability. I've been playing video games as long as I can remember, starting with the original nintendo and the first mario. Even played atari while visiting my grandparents since they had my uncles old one in the basement. Owned a sega genesis, super nitendo, nintendo 64, playstation... and then I got really into computer games over consoles once I found Warcraft 2.

That developed into a love for BW to satisfy my strategic needs and counterstrike to satisfy my shooting needs. Those 2 games were my staple games for ages. I'd always play them and try to get better, and as new games came out I'd play for fun, often just the single player, and then move on.

Well it's been nearly 15 years of those 2 games and as much as I love em, they definitely feel old. And then I found MW2 to replace CS and the beta came out to replace BW. Same shit different games.

But for the last few years before MW2 and the beta came out, I've been hunting for new games. Only a few have been any good and all of them have only been good for single player. Once the game was beaten it was shelved. I started buying lots of new games looking for something awesome, either to replace CS/BW or to at least give an experience like halflife did, but very few were up to par. I blew quite a bit of money on shitty games and realized I should be playing demo's first. heh

Anyway, here are the few good games i found over the last several years. Sad how short the list is:

Batman: Arkham Asylum (fun game and gives you a fun few days feeling like you're Batman, but once you beat it no desire to replay) Farcry 2 - (Almost super awesome but not enough attention to detail, especially with AI) Bioshock - (entertaining at first but I never finished it) Gears of War - (great single player but never got into multi, then it stopped working cause Microsoft games are stupid) Portal - (super fun single player but once it's over it's over)

And here are the games I tried and either hated or the game fell short:

Call of Juarez - (crappy cowboy game) S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl - (hated) Left 4 Dead - (repetitive) ARMA: Combat Operations - (Sucked) Company of Heroes - (Boring) Empire: Total War - (Snooze) Lost: Via Domus (and I loved LOST at the time I played it but still pretty meh) Sniper Elite - (good idea, mediocre execution) FEAR - (meh) Newest Tomb Raider - (they still haven't figured out controls imo, she's an idiot and annoying to maneuver) Mass Effect - (just started it and it's pretty mediocre, and all FPS suck compared to MW2 lately) Call of Duty World At War - (but I got it on Wii which probably fucked it up) Fallout 2 - (I like the idea, hate their execution of a FPS / RPG, as their FPS sucks) Ghost Recon - (a newer one which sucked, but my comp also couldn't handle it very well so didn't give it a fair try... still, felt like it would suck even with a good comp)

I know I missed a few (good and bad ones) but I think that gives a good list. Have any of you guys played any of these games??

Oh, and I'm thinking of trying the newest Resident Evil - anyone play it?

My volume has really sucked this month. I'll of played about 77 hours of poker and about 55k hands when june 30th rolls around and that is really not enough. I have spent time studying and stuff but still..

I'm feeling a lot better about pretty much everything so.. I will shoot at 25 hours/week next month.. need to at least be playing 100 hours/month for sure. My standard volume was 100-120 hours a month last year so I can definitely do it.

Just a thought.

the moderation on tlnet is absolutely abysmal

i wrote a 2 page review of the tlnet moderation but my laptop thinks everything i press the mouse bar is a back button

read through the banned thread on tlnet. some people are banned for jokes, some for memes, some for truncation, some just because the mod doesnt like them, some because the mod doesnt like their tone, some because the mod misunderstands them (SOOOO MANY), some because the mod thinkss they are worthless but dont realise they have written 2000 pages in other threads eg Foulcout.

u know my favourite bans? when someone posts a blog entry that is significant to them, but the mod doesnt like it or thinks its dumb because theyre too fucking elitist and stupid to figure out why something is interesting or has the potential to be interesting.

WANT A CLUE MODS?

WHEN A THREAD IS MADE, IF NO ONE POSTS IN IT THEN NO ONE IS INTERESTED AND IT FALLS OFF THE FRONT PAGE. THIS, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IS A GOOD WAY OF FINDING OUT IF A THREAD IS WORTHY OR NOT.

i am honest to GOD when i say that it feels to me like teamliquid is literally months away from enforcing censorship of swear words.

tlnet 5 years ago was a good forum. tlnet now is like reading Woman's Weekly.

it was 6 months ago that tlnet made the official rule that "NO THREADS ARE TO BE MADE ABOUT RELIGION EVER".

shit has gotten worse and worse and worse since then
