poker bloggage by shaw67193, March 21

here's my story.

my name's greg. i'm 20 years old. in my sophomore year at the college of new jersey. i've been playing poker for maybe 3-4 years. i got into online poker when i was like 17. i only really knew the basics of the game. i lost like $200 before i started making money. i had read a bit of doyle, hellmuth, but i didn't really grasp all the concepts of winning poker. for a while i donked my way to success, winning and coming in 2nd in like 4-5 $10-$30 mtts during my senior year of hs. one win was for like $2200 and i was pumped. i spent the summer hitting and running for min-buyin double ups at the UB 2-4 tables. although this is where i eventually went broke, i also developed a lot of confidence in my poker feel; i made some sick sick reads in addition to funamentally poor plays. i remember one weekend a friend and i ran $30 up to $900 that we cashed out sunday night. sick. but i was still a donkey.

i ended up losing a lot. like nearly everything. too much slowplaying, overplaying marginal hands pref, overall donkishness. still, though, poker was my job through hs. then college happened.

without the homegame i became poor as hell. i didn't want to work, so i tried toying with online poker again. i got $1 on stars from a buddy. i won a 3.5k person .10 +$50added tourney. that was mad sick. my game was getting fundamentally better at this point, but even that couldn't prepare me for the next ~6 months of poker.

i found 2 cool guys that lived in my freshman dorm that had a biweekly game on campus. like $10 double-chip-value. i was up a little at first, then one night i set up this LAG player perfectly and got 1-outed for like $80 pot (40 real money). then the next night i got 1-outed again for like $60 pot (30irl).

what felt like forever, i would run into ridiculous badbeats and drawouts. online, too. just absolute redonkalips plays getting paid off by 5-, 3-, 2-outers. it was really a sight to behold. to this day, i still maintain that i get outdrawn the most out of anyone i know. yeah, it sounds like whiny bitchiness, but i don't care. anyone who plays with me regularly will agree.

i got a shitty job at the bookstore at some point. then i got a slightly less shittier job that i still earn some money at occassionally. i hate work :/

so i lose a bunch of online money ($25 here, $50 there) and irl buyins for a while. every once in a while i'd run up to like $200, but there was always something i'd need money for so i'd end up cashing out. until about 2 months ago, i'd really been getting fed up with the beats. like obvi i was playing +ev, i know i wasn't playing perfect at any point, put certainly not losing poker. but without a set br, it was hard to see longterm results. being broke all the time sucked.

so the last ~8 weeks or so, i've been really reevaluating my game. and trying to learn to live with beats a little bit better. i've been pumped to get a br so i can witness + longterm effects rather than badbeat, gg br. i've learned so much about proper br management in the past year, i feel like i've already won something. or some gay shit like that.

i realized liquid is > anysite when it comes to poker discussion. so i've been lurking here a lot more lately. maybe 1 week ago, i started checking out the blogs and found a 200nl video by saki. i was like a little kid watching his first pr0n movie download over dialup. i watched it immediately, and i was blown away...

it was so easy. i was like omfg i could do that. between that and reading about other bloggers' success, i've just been so motivated and ready to stop donking.

so today, i got my friend to transfer $50 on loan at ftp to start grinding (like legit grinding) for the first time in my poker career. again, i have the fine ballas at lp to thank, bc i saw the free ftp bonus thread and was like hey, free $100 bonus, hence transferage.

after some good beats irl, i felt good and jumped on ftp to play $10nl. i found out how +ev multitabling is. i think it singlehandedly fixed my biggest leak, boredom. after ~3hrs, i finished at $79.50 and cleared $8 in bonus. i might go back on for a bit before bed to clear $10 so i can see it in my br.

so right now i feel great.

goals right now:
grind like a fiend
get enough of a br to afford the tracker...i have a spreadsheat to track data but it's pretty much worthless
learn how to use the hand deal so i can put up hands for review/brag/bitch.

guess that's it pokerwise for now.

stealtheblind on aim, drop me a line whenever.

No Sleep, no problem by tilted fish, March 20

As I am typing this I am entering the 38th hour of no sleep. I woke up around 10 am on sunday and I have been awake since. havent done this for awhile, last time was when I went to europe for a visit.
As you can tell from my last post I was in deep shit for school work, I have got most of it done, reports , labs all done, just a 30min talk then im really set until finals which shouldnt be as bad.
I have done all of the work while doing other things, including playing poker, and I finally started working on a new song after putting bucnh of ideas down...
Basically its been very productive this past week and including the last 2 sleepless days.... and I am wondering if I should do this more often... i mean sleep less.
Today around 10-11am I was almost passing out in during my lecture but since then I have been able to function normally and still be productive.
I feel like I can be up for alteast 12 more hours, but im calling it a day.

havent played all that much poker actually despite all the extra hours, but played some during weekend and monday mornign? cant remeber...I just know that i have been running ok, couple of small suckouts here and there but no complains at all, and I have played a very decent game... I always have a hand or two during my sessions that I kindda fuck up but its all good as long as this red line is moving up.

Small Adjustments by acdawg712, March 20

I ran my 20 into 40 in NL 25 and had 130 before i dropped to 37. I know no one really cares, but I'd like to write it down before I forget.

Introductory Post by acdawg712, March 20

Hi, my name is Alan. I have been playing poker for 2 years and real online poker for about 6 months, pretty on and off. I had limited success at first, turning 4.25 into 50 but lost it over a span of a month. During my winter break I got transferred $20, I won 5th and $200 in a 2.75 MTT. I decided to play NL 25 with only 8 buys along with adding the 3R I initially did well, increasing my roll to 250. But the variance of NL 25 hit me, dropping my down to 120 due to making hero calls, overplaying top pair, making bad bluffs, and not being able to overpairs. I lost even more until i was down to 15. I went to up to 150 but dropped down to 100. Then in a hungover state, I must have rebought 11 times in the 3R and lost 18 ish on the side. I tried to cash out but it got rejected so I decided to play. I dropped down to 30 ish due to some bad SNG beats and put the rest of a NL 50 table and obviously lost it all. I got transferred $20 ran it up to $50 but lost it all. I placed in the PPA freeroll and got $3.50 and ran it up to 80 ish. I lost about 30 of it and transferred the $20 i owed to someone. I put the rest (20)on a NL50 table in part to a massive runner runner suckout. I put it all on the time in NL 100 and ran it up to 80. Then i finally decide to play NL 10. I did well but i dropped to 37 on a bad day. Then I decided to finally play within my bankroll and dropped down to NL 5 and have slowly moved to $74. I am writing this to not only record my hand for me to review but also to ensure I remain in my bankroll.

Terrible Run by AntonChan, March 20

Wow, like wow. I haven't had a more terrible run than these past two days. It's extremely disguisting... At least when this is all over I'll start having a good run of cards, weeeee....

Another thing is that I notice some flaws in my game that I couldn't see before. Like pushing all in for no reason, which really is a spew.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/161133
I actually put him on AQ, but my reasoning was clouded with too much emotion (tilt, another losing session... etc). I should've have pushed on the flop, but folded on the turn. erk

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/161131
As donvale said, why push. King high wouldn't even call me, plus he checked the river...

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/161108
I'm not sure about this hand. I was looking over the hand history as I was playing this. I'd say the correct move was to repop him. He plays way too many hands and likes to bluff

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/161107
Should I have pushed? I don't know comments please

So after reviewing these hands... damn I'm a donk lol. I have a lot to learn about this game. I tend to play with fear as well which doesn't help in my play.

Finally back by Xervean, March 20

Haven't been able to get on LP in like 1-2 weeks. Good to be back at last. I have been playing really well and doing a very good job of quitting at the first sign of tilt. Basically what I do is if I take a really bad beat or two and feel the anger and need to get even building up I stop and go hit the treadmill for like 30 minutes and/or lift weights. It feels good to be back in the gym because I used to be a competitive bodybuilder. As for my bankroll status.. I am going to be moving up to 100nl in the near future. I have played about 14k hands this month running at close to 9ptbb100. I have also played a few thousand hands of 25PLO. I decided when I play it im only going to play 2 tables at the most. I seem to spew chips when I 4 table it because im not sure of what to do in a lot of situations. I am considering getting omaha PT in the near future.

Update by Chris_55555, March 20

I didn't play very many hands over the weekend so hopefully I'll get a bunch in this week. I was up to 14k in 5/10 but am down a few buy-ins from that plateau. I think i will finish today off in 2/4 to gain back some confidence and to make sure I'm playing my A game, and then i should be back in 5/10 for the rest of the week.

Here are my March stats for far.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6863/blog3dw7.png

On another note, I am thinking of buying a car after I'm done this school year but I have no idea what kind I should get. I will probably end up getting a used car that is a few years old. In three or four years when I have some more money saved up I would really like to get Lexus or an Infinite. They are both really nice, classy cars.

Lexus LS 460. ~70k

Infinite G35. ~50k

Thats all for now

Cheers,

Runnin Good - Feelin Confident :D by adam001, March 20

Alright so I finally decided to create a blog. Couple of my friends have done it already and I think it will be a good motivation tool to help further improve my game and confidence level. A little bit about me : I am 18 years old, live in Canada and have been playing poker seriously for about 10 months, starting with a 65$ roll and playing 25NL.

I moved up to 200NL 6max about 3 weeks ago after doing quite well in 100NL. So far 200NL is going well - I have played around 22K hands and have run at about 5.5ptbb/100 .

Also what I noticed today is that I was not playing optimally while 8-9 tabling. Recently I have cut the amount of tables I play to about 5-6 and my play has improved substantially :D.

Pics of PT stats and etc to come.

Side Note: lol@me working at McDonalds only 2-3 months ago for 7.5cad/h.

Peace,

Adam

The Quest to be Antonius by Daut, March 20

So after I busto'ed out of the shooting star, im walking to the front of the casino when i bump into patrik antonius. He's standing there, dressed in a nice button up shirt with his muscles bulging out of it and looking how pretty much every guy poker player wants to look.

I stood there a few seconds scowling at him in jealousy. I then decided that I'm going to become patrick antonius junior.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/PatrikAntonius.jpg

I am going to start working out every day, eating healthier, dressing nicer, and playing my best at all times. Oh yeah, and ill probably shave my head.

By the time of the WPT championship next month, you wont be able to tell us apart. Not that you can now.

Cooler after fucking Cooler by Critterer, March 20

Unreal, just suckouts and coolers galore.

Every draw they pay way over odds but seem to hit.

Just one of those days, but ugh, great day to have a downswing when ive jsut moved up. Managed to limit my losses so far to just under 2 buyins, which is pretty fucking good considering the beats ive taken.

I think im playing relatively well, made a few spews ofc but mostly im playing solid...

edit-

THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS HOW CAN I GET FUCKING COOLERED SO MUCH ON MY FIRST SESSION OF NL25 FUCK YOU PARTYPOKER

ALMOST 4 BUYINS DOWN GGRRRRR

Hopefully my luck changes before my bankroll runs out though.

NL10 Summary by Critterer, March 19

Well, after restarting at nl10 2 weeks ago, ive played a lot of hands (by my standards), and ive run relatively well, had a couple of downswings (one epic one) but ive maintained a steady winrate and im now back over $600 BR so im going to probably start playing nl25 again.

I really feel like the game im playing is crushing nl10, but ive gotta move up now, i think ill play until i either move up to nl50, or hit $400 then ill move back down, whichever comes first. Hopefully ill make it at nl25.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/2646/nl10summaryzs3.jpg

I have been playing kinda passively since i find its really just not profitable to try and force people off hands at nl10 by aggression. Why bother when if ur passive and patient enough people will call your overpair down with just top pair +rag kicker?

Gunna post some of my favourite hands of the last 2 weeks here now:

WPT celeb invitational.....JENNIE FINCH!!! by Daut, March 19

So last weekend I went to the celebrity invitational. It was a lot of fun, i got to meet/play with a bunch of celebs. Tourney was shitty structure, really fast, started with 50bb, blinds went up every 30 minutes and i just lost every all in i had. oh well, who cares, i got to play with mekhi phifer, timothy busfield and the creator of the simpsons, and got to talk to a bunch of other people.

cash games went shitty, 3rd hand at the table took a 12k 4 outer on the turn at 20/40, didnt bring enough money to play 20/40 after that so i had to grind the terrible weak tight 10/20 games and made a little more than half of it back.

Anyway, CA was fun, got to hang out with lyric, mango, and jonny cosmo, and met some other cool people out there. ok, the rest of the trip is meaningless besides the plane ride back.

So, I get on the plane on monday morning to fly home. Im really exhausted cause I've been up for like 25 hours at this point (didnt go to bed that night). As I'm walking to my seat I see that I'm the luckiest man alive and have the hottest girl on the plane next to me. Man do I run good sometimes.

so i sit down, say hi and dont really say much more to start. She looks really familiar to me, but I just cant place who it is. A couple minutes later she asks if I could get out so she could go to the bathroom. so I move out of the way and she stands up and i see that shes 6'1. then all of a sudden it dawned on me, HOLY SHIT ITS JENNIE FINCH.

for those of you that dont follow sports, jennie finch is like this phenom softball player who was voted the hottest female athlete a few years running back in like 2003 and 2004.

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/hottest/female/finals.html

in this poll she demolished anna kournikova as the hottest female athlete.

her softball achievments (what a sicko):

Led Arizona to 2001 NCAA softball championship with 32-0 record as a pitcher, two-time national player of the year, three-time All-American. Finished career with a record of 199-16 and also hit 50 home runs.

Anyway I havent heard anything about her in the last couple of years. It turns out shes married and has a kid, which really shocked me, shes only 26. The kid is 9 months old and his name is Ace. Hes going to be pretty much the best pitcher ever, seeing as how both parents are awesome pitchers (dad is on the diamondbacks).

So we got to talking. Shes going to be on a fantasy baseball show coming up in the next few months. Fantasy baseball was like my life for 8 years so i told her everything i knew about it. Then we started talking about what i did and poker came up.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Mig/badbeatjenniefinch.JPG

pretty sad. i thought i was in but i blew it.

oh yeah, awesome news. so im getting into backing some really good mtt players in live tournaments with my friend victor (nazgul18 on stars, owns liquidpoker), and last night my boy bodogari won the 300 in AC for 63k weeeee. Ari is the man, hes already cashed in 3 events, only played in 8 for me, hes so sick. We're also going to be backing mig.com and hopefully a few others that im not sure about yet.

ill be at bay 101 in san jose playing in the 2k and 10k events out there next week. hopefully i book another big win.

one last little note. taylor showed me this link about the PPA. check out the video on pocketfives.
