Or is real life poker a lot more collision-free than online poker? I watched some episodes of HSP and it seems like there are so many fewer decent hands players get, whether pre or post flop. A casual hand like KQ vs KT on a board of Kxx is basically considered a setup, and the KT instadonates to KQ. Obviously these players are much better than random online players, but they treat a pair like a set and a straight like a straight flush, and they're right to assume so.

When I hear people complaining about online poker hands, it's usually something like a set over set, quads over boat, nutflush vs 2nd nut flush, etc. It seems like this stuff NEVER happens in real life poker. Occasionally I play in casinos, or home-games with friends, and the worst setup that occurs periodically is maybe set vs overpair or 2pair, nothing more. When I play sessions online, or look at hand histories and such, the setups are 10x more unavoidable and occur 10x more often.

I'm not suggesting that online poker is entirely "rigged," but it's a notable observation that's beginning to mesmerize me. Anyone else notice this?

It's fall break up here at U Michigan so I decided to play some online poker this week. I had played 2 100ks thanks to casino and one day after i was drunk. I got a $20 transfer and started my way up.

This includes 38 random hands. Not bad.

And he had some things to say while leaving. The quote that really got my attention is this:

"The motivation for the decision is two-fold," he continued. "I know Fedor (Emelianenko) just signed with another organization and that's the only real fight that makes sense for me at 44 years old as the heavyweight champion of the UFC. That's the fight I wanted and if that can't happen it doesn't make sense for me to compete with all these other guys. And then obviously that's not going to happen now. And, two, I'm tired of being taken advantage of, played as the nice guy and basically swimming against the current with the management of the UFC. I have a lot of other things going on in my life that I'm doing just fine with. I don't need the problems. I don't feel like I get the respect I deserve from the organization, and that's motivation No. 2 for the letter of resignation that was sent today."

His first reason sounds at least somewhat legitimate, though whiny. Yes, Fedor and the UFC could not make a deal and that is really too bad for everyone involved with mma but it's not like the UFC heavyweight division is full of scrubs. They just so happen to have the 'other' greatest heavyweight in the history of mma in minotauro noguiera. While it's not on the level of fedor vs randy to call it a blockbuster fight would be an understatement. If Couture really is sincere about resigning because he was unable to fight fedor, then he would sign with m-1 to fight him there. But I doubt this happens.

It was his second reason that really irked me. To claim that that he doesn't get the respect he deserves is down right laughable. He is the first of the new age UFC fighters to be inducted into the UFC hall of fame. He has been given more title shots than any other UFC fighter in history. He retires after getting knocked out only to unretire and compete in a weight division he hasn't competed in in 5 years and is given an immediate title shot for crying out loud. What more can the UFC do?

In the end it came down to money, though. He was upset because he wasn't the second highest paid fighter like he was told. "All us athletes are all pretty tightly intertwined," he said. "You hear what other guys were paid signing bonuses and what other guys were paid on the record and off the record with bonuses. I've heard Chuck's numbers. Tito's numbers. Hughes' numbers. Quinton's numbers. Cro Cop, Wanderlei. I heard what they were offering Fedor, and it's insulting."

This is the type of thing that gives players like Terrell Owens such bad names. No, he doesn't make as much as liddell or mirko, but he's still one of the highest paid athletes in the UFC. He makes 250k a fight before bonuses, there are better fighters than Couture that make less than half that and are damn happy for the opportunity. Complaining about being only one of the highest paid athletes in UFC history instead of THE highest paid athlete in UFC history is ridiculous.

If Randy Couture wants to retire because he feels like there's nothing left for him to accomplish with fedor out of the picture, then so be it. But to talk like that about the UFC which has treated him like a king and practically deified him to the fans is just a slap in the face.

P.S. my friend Gary pointed out that this may actually be good in the long run, and in a way he's right. There are some amazing fighters that make 40k a fight, and while that's more than enough to live and train on, that isn't enough to bring in top notch athletes from other combat sports...most notably boxing. If more fighters complain about pay and start signing with organizations like K-1, m-1, or EliteXC it will force the UFC to really up the pay scale for fighters. This will in turn cause a lot of athletes to choose mma instead of something else which will do nothing but good especially 10 years down the road.

Cashed out 3.5k

left myself $100, going to turn that into $500 and play on 100 bi's for now on.

I didn't want to fullfull the profecy of everyone saying i was going busto so i cashed out and will learn from my mistake of playing on a shallow roll and do things right this time.

Anyways, its nice having that comfort level and having my first apartment that I didn't have any roomates, very comforting.

Gonna go smoke a fattie now n watch the tube, gl guys.

Been a fucking lot of hands at nl25 but finally i achieved my goal of 17,000 FPP.

I think im a better player than i was and i feel i can beat nl25, if i stopped cashing out id be playing nl50-100 for sure but o well i like being able to go out IRL heh.

After working my way up to $300, I somehow managed to lose $100 in one session at 10NL. A mixture of bad luck and bad play made this session very frustrating. Especially losing KK vs 64s, KK vs T4s, AQo vs 52s, AJs vs J9o, AQo vs Q6o, and AKo vs AJs. I plan on trying again with a little more discipline this time. Hopefully I can make it back to $300 again and eventually make myself a good enough bankroll to move up to 25NL.

so we started the night semi-sober playing sing-star which i fully dominated.

ive a very goo singing voice obviously. The more drunk i got the more i wanted to sing

I dominated Rick Astley and it kind of felt like i was rickrolling the whole room when i was singing it.

So we leave to go to the bar about 10:30ish

Get some free drinks sit around a table chatting jive and sippin on lager.

finish the lager and we build a tower out of the empty jugs/cups/bottles

everyone says i cant balance 1 bottle on top of another at the top of this tower. fucking nits - i prove them wrong

i smash 2 bottles - mazeltov!

We go in and dance

Theres these 2 chicks. 1 chick starts dancing with this guy in a Pippen jersey (i mean - come on lol) her mate is kind of trying to dance with us

i turn my mate to dance with her and hes like "no way man"

i dont understand this coz shes kind of porky sure but her tits were nice and id have slammed that back so hard. Whatever.

We dance some more and decide its time to go.

On out way out i pass comment about this guys Pippen jersey - something along the lines of "nice jersey - is it 1995?"

he shouts at us and we continue to shout back as we walk off.

im like "ok this is it im about to die in a pair of ill-fitting rollerblades"

thankfully they didnt recognize me (thems were too pussy blud)

sigh... very frustrating day i think i played decent... god damn nearly 6h session and only 2.4k hands? (4 tabling obv)

Well i ran like shit today... unlike the nit "my equity sux" rant where AA gets cracked, i just couldnt hit shit when i shoved draws and made some moves i missed every single time no exeption.

How in the fuck can someone be down -1,500 on equity alone in 2k hands? (i were down nearly that in the first 800).

ok back to the hands... i dont save most of my hands but here are a couple:

Villian is a regular (apparently not a great one limping button), i raise from the blinds big so my range here is quite small and he is NEVER calling with a weak ace and he is not limping a strong one so i made up my mind... this player DOES NOT have an ace, he could have 45s.. but i think he slowdowns on 1 street, either flop turn or river.

So i represent a PP and there is no value in c-betting here, and its much much less likely he bluffs it if i c-bet so i say to myself... "he either have Quads or he has SHIT..." and well i put my stack in the middle and i was right, lost the hand yet i like the call, reads are useless if you are not willing to put your money in.
