oops i feel guilty by Day[9], July 17

So there was a study done that something like 50-75% of tone is lost via text. For example, you might try to be sarcastic, and someone might interpret it as you being an ass etc.

As a result of reading the study (and probably moreso due to my own nature) I've always made it a point to just try to be as nice as possible online. I don't really try to be funny very often on the forums. I try to default to nice as often as possible. Additionally, I don't believe in trash talking and being a dick unnecessarily.

BUT I JUST COULDNT RESIST

Poker progress & 2 slightly comical hands by Night2o1, July 16

I haven't been able to play as much poker as I'd like, so my improvement has been almost none over the past couple weeks. Which is pretty upsetting.. Though I have been working on crushing a couple of leaks I've identified. I'm trying to study as much as a can as well (ie: fees book he posted here--thanks fees).

My favorite leak-- I can't stop laughing at how bad this is. I must of been tilting my balls off.. problem is I know I've done this more than once. Basically, fold preflop or maybe flat, ya? Embarassment inc.

I am thinking about making a good-sized deposit($200?) and playing at 10nl. 5nl just pisses me off? Thoughts?

Here's a hand where every card that came out made me want to throw up.

goals reached so far by roflcopter, July 16

made silverstar and moved up to nl25 today, which were my goals for july. played my first nl25 session today and it seemed pretty swingy although I feel like I played pretty straight forward. had a few nice pots and a handfull of coolers/bad beats, nothing huge really. ended down like $2 overall over 2k hands.

on a side note, anyone have a solid notebook to recommend? just one that will be able to play sc2 and poker for a while. I'm thinking about this

Book anyone? by SakiSaki, July 16

2/4 isnt going to well so far, or rather Im playing really bad. I think what Im going through is very standard after a long stretch of solid results. I start taking winning for granted and my play gets affected by it so when I start running bad I play spewy etc.

Luckily, I realized this early on, cashed out and dropped down to 2/4 to get my A-game back. Due to the fact that ive been playing 2/4 I havent lost much even though Ive been playing pretty horrible. Thanks all terrible 2/4 regs. Speaking of regs, I 4-tabled a 5/10 reg today on 2/4 and after like 30 min of berating me and telling me how i sucked he left claiming i was "too lucky". Keep on rocking champ...

Enough ranting and lets get to the point. Ive been toying with the thought of taking a break for a few days(allthough just finished a +2k session so im probably not taking a break after all) but I dont really have much to do during the days except hang out with friends and play dota. Both are getting pretty tiresome and I need stuff to read.

So hopefully you guys can help me and recommend a good book.

I hate crime books, popular history books about wars and stuff(like the trilogy about ceasar or w/e) and I vomit on all kinds of da vinci code type of books.

Cant really specify more than that, all I have at home right now is ulysses and moby dick but they are both in english and they just drain my energy totally after like 20 pages.

Faggy pants by lazymej, July 16

I bet strong like a mother fucker to protect my hands from fags and from AIDS.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/486127

Anyway today was verrrry long pokerwise. Had a first session which was slow in the beginning (was -ve) but then ended up +$80 in a few hundred hands. Then took a break and played again at night. Won a few more BI so I was up $120 for the day (which was really nice hehe) but after that the going was so slow. No winnings/losings for a really long time. But then a fucking hand happened where I flopped trips and the other guy flopped a FH. Ya I was deep on that table and so was the other guy so I went broke. FUCK. So I lost like 2 BI right there and then things just went downhill from there. It was the biggest pot I've played too. I was not playing that hand strong but my mentor told me to shove and I did like a good student. Then I got pwned. All in a days work lol. Here's the hand
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/486148
that bastard. So I lost a few more bucks so I ended up +$46 for the day. I'm not too happy about that but hey, I have more than yesterday so wtv.

Oh ya but it's all good I ended up pwning pPlusAD HU like the newbbb he is. bahaha. Oh ya and there was so many fish today wtf. Like 5 ppl at least with VP of 80 in 150+ hands. And they were owning the tables lol. Insaneee.

So I'm doing so good compared to 2 weeks ago where I was struggling to win at all over few K hands every day. I can honestly and humbly say that I am a much better player than I was 2 weeks ago, no comparison. Back then I was so excited to win like 20 bucks in a day maybe, but now winning $100 in a couple of hours and 1000 hands just seems mediocre to me. Thanks to everyone who's helped me out Especially pPlusAD who has improved my game the most. He is a good teacher even though I can pwn him heads up. hihi.

Anyway here's my graph for today:

suffering in nl25 by rockman255, July 16

so im admittedly playing really bad. like, i make the occassional tilty move, and i fold at the wrong time, and then i be at the wrong time.

i dont know what to do, ive played 20k hands and im going nowhere, i swear to god i get hit by coolers very often thus far in nl25 though.

i flipped and won a 200bb pot, and then this happened, and now im even

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/486176

i guess its punishment for flipping or something.. i have no fold equity against nl25 clowns with tpgk

this is my lifetime(after my injury) nl25

Lifetime Results - 359,418 Hands by k2o4, July 16

This should be everything. Maybe a few hundred hands got lost here and there, but I asked PS for my lifetime hands before buying Holdem Manager and I've used HEM consistently for all my play since, so all my hands should be here. For cash games that is, not tournies.

When you look at the graph's you'll see the first one is in Big Blinds. I did that because it shows you a clearer picture of how I did at each limit, because when graphing by dollar with so many limits mixed in there's a huge skew as you'll see in the second graph.

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//General-7-16-08-All-Lifetime.jpg
Amazingly I'm a lifetime winner @ 3.94 BB/100 despite getting pwnd at NL200 and then a major downswing at NL100

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//Graph-7-16-08-AllBB-lifetime.jpg
This graph is the pretty graph

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//Graph-7-16-08-Alldollar-lifetime.jpg
And this is just crazily skewed cause of the huge change of dollar amounts

A few important things to point out:

  • The lowest stakes (NL2, NL5, NL10) used to be prettier when I first won my way through them, but once I was playing NL100 I'd go to those 3 stakes while drunk and spew money around.
  • I peaked at NL200 and lost 6 BI there while trying to move up, then I went on a serious downswing for about 30 BI @ NL100. Been trying to recover ever since
  • There's no easy way to seperate out Full ring, 6 max and HU, so each level is a combination of all 3.
  • The second graph is a better representation of how it felt to me - winning small amounts for a long time and then suddenly hitting it big, and then losing it all and breaking even ever since.
  • My BR is pretty small right now cause I've cashed out quite a bit. I look at these results and wish I had a $4,000 BR so I could be playing NL100 comfortably!

I've been playing NL25 for the last month and a half after I started working a regular job again. At first I didn't take it very seriously and put in very few hands during which I was spewing a lot. The last 2 weeks I've started trying again, feeling crappy about being in the microstakes and really wanting to get back to at least NL100 where I know I can win, and then the wins will be some money I can actually use. Getting back into NL200 and winning there is my big goal, but I don't see it happening too soon.

I've been 8-10 tabling and it's going well. I still manage to play a solid 21/19 type of game, sometimes a bit tighter or looser. I've recovered mentally and can finally handle losing buyins again. Playing 8 tables helps cause I'm not so worried about every little mistake and don't get so upset when I get coolered. I think I basically lost my balls after the downswing and was playing scared for a long time. Playing with a big roll for my limit has allowed me to be more aggressive and that has brought my game back.

I've also spent a lot of time focusing on listening to my gut. There's been a lot of trial and error but through it I've found a lot of situations to bluff profitably or slow down to save money. I've learned to play much more by feel than anything formulaic, which I think is what I've been lacking. So I do believe my game has improved by grinding out NL25 recently. I'm excited to move up to NL50. I'm sitting @ $1,360 right now. I figure I'll move up @ 30 BI's, which is $1,500. So 6 BI to go, but I might just go for it @ $1,400 too, not sure. Depends on how I'm playing =)

That's all for now! Thanks for reading and as always, plz leave a comment on the way out.

*sigh* NL25 general questions. by mikeymoo, July 16

Down 3 bi at NL25 over 5k hands.
No graphs or charts or HH's, since I just grabbed Holdem Manager.
QQ vs AA (standard?)
AKs vs TT
Some retarded BvB where he stacked off with a double gutshot vs my set.
Overpairs and sets not paying off.
Of course I'm playing badly too, so I definitely need to ask for some help.

I should only be bluffing people whom I've classified as weak tight, right?
I should be playing relatively tight and only 3 betting premium hands?
Set = pot/pot/shove?
I should be following the beluga theorem?
Never slowplay? (as a rule of thumb)
What types of boards should I cbet?
Should I ever cbet in a 3-way pot?
Almost always raise a donklead on flop?
What do I look for in table selection?

I'm not going to play anymore NL25 until I get some answers for these questions. I have about 16bi left, and I am definitely headed back to NL10 if I dip below 15.

Mike

Thanks to DrawingThin, shaneomac, roflcopter, and F4zi (although I don't like bothering F4zi for stupid questions).

Oh how the mighty have fallen by CrownRoyal, July 16

Standard rant

I'm quitting drinking for a while or at least so much. I drink nearly every day these days and I'm quite positive im borderline alcoholic at the age of 19. It's doing nothing good for me either and my life would be so much better production wise if i had never even began drinking. I wouldn't be as cool as i am or whatever but at the same time I wouldn't be so unsuccessful.

It's also making me fat. I'm gonna try to lose maybe 10-15lbs (I weigh 180 right now and I'm 5'10) and in the near future begin working out again. I used to drink a lot in highschool but I also played sports so I stayed in shape and was actually pretty muscular/strong.

All in all though drinking I realized this morning is the root of a lot of my problems and I'm getting nothing out of it on the plus side. Thus it's time for it to take a back seat in my life.
