Werdum is out of his fight against Miocic. He's apparently injured (foot and back). Werdum said he would've still fought Cain, but since Cain is out, he'll take 3 months off to heal-up. Werdum said he'll fight Cain or Miocic when he comes back.

really velasquez gets completely demolished? i thought he won 1st round and gassed, which is definitely not his normal, and then lost second round.. but before this he was in contention for like maybe best in UFC and now he is a joke? that was quick...

I would have been happy to take Miocic at those odds against Werdum.

Not going to the location of the fight which is 2,000 metre higher altitude at least 1 month before the fight is a joke as well when its about a title and a pile of money considering his career requires perfect physical condition ... shows lack of IQ

That being said, I dont think he meant it as in Cain is a joke, rather than how the UFC proceeded was. The guy has injuries all the time and fights seldom and in that title fight he didn't look particularly great. He should have had to earn his title fight with a match vs top contender before that like others are forced to when they lose this way. The only consistency he's shown lately is that of injuries

Well, yes he got demolished. Dominated on the feet and submitted later on. Everybody likes to overstate the effect of the altitude and I am not saying that it did not played any factor in it, but Werdum just turn out to be a really bad match up for Cain.

Cain biggest strengths are his wrestling and dirty boxing on the fence and in the clinch and of course his crazy cardio. And it just happens that Werdum takes away his best weapons - He is better in the clinch and can't be bullied there and if Velasquez takes him down he is in trouble.

The main reason he gassed in this fight was because he was not able to impose his gameplan and got punished on the feet and in the clinch by Werdum, not the altitude.

A bit impressionable based on one fight. Not saying Werdum wouldn't win again but that clearly wasn't the same Cain. Also not trying to make it seem like Cain looked like that singularly because of the altitude. But it clearly was one factor. He didn't look right even at the end of round 1 (breathing heavier than I've seen. and fatigue from getting beat up doesn't show up that quick). I think Werdum's surprising strength in the clinch would always negate Cain to a degree but just seems like a bunch of factors stemming from maybe arrogance/complacency had quite a bit to do with the fight. Couldn't really believe he decided not to go to Mexico earlier and then when he came, its like he had to play up the part of invincible bad ass that his AKA buddies were putting out there. Luke Rockhold all week in the embeddeds was just taking every chance to try to clown the Werdum team...saying how much of a beating Werdum was in for. Then the camera would pan over to Cain and he'd have to put on a not genuine tough look...when all he was tryin to do was just eat breakfast or something. Obviously not some huge factor in a fist fight but it couldn't have helped him be focused and mentally right for the real challenge that Werdum was. Didn't seem like much of any gameplan was there after he realized Werdum wasn't folding in a cpl minutes either.

It's a shame there's a good chance we won't get to see if Werdum really does crush him again or if Cain could show up like he did before. Since like Spitfire said, he's like 34 and so injury prone that he may not get a chance to get back to the top anymore. Not just that...specifically that he's had problems with his back. Recurring back problems when you're past 30 don't just magically get back to 100% like ever.

I liked Miocic in the fight too (at odds) like apparently lots of others did. Also don't think the short notice would've effected him that much. Stipe seems like a smart guy. You don't go crazy calling for a title shot like he did and then go sit on the couch. There's no way he wouldn't have been training in the last cpl months knowing Cain's history. Actually am positive the short notice effected Werdum more and that's why he probably smartly pulled out of the fight. Mostly. I'm sure he's a little 'hurt.' Game planning for a bull rushing Cain is a lot different from a guy in Stipe who can fight well at range and has underrated lateral movement around the ring. Werdum is actually really old. Like 38. He's trying to make sure he doesn't lose out on getting that paper in his last couple years. Makes sense not to risk this sudden change.

In regards to all this....can't wait til Jon Jones gets his shit straight and moves up to wreck some heavyweights. From what we saw of prime Cain... bad matchup for Jones. But now that that's out the way and apparently Jones got bigger, don't see who would be a favorite over him.

I'd like to see Jon Jones do a McGregor and rule LHW and HW.

I don't think people are overestimating the influence the altitude had, such thing is huge even for top athletes. Just watch a game of anyone's national team vs Bolivia @ football and see how even top teams struggle to breath. We re talking about athletes who's career revolves around running and hitting a ball with their legs, you can barely name anyone that does more cardio than them

Edit: JBJ said he d fight Miocic for an interim title, however it wont happen

I wish Khabib didn't take this fight for his come back fight. I wish he would've fought alvarez or something, as much as I like Khabib I feel like Ferguson will have the edge here.

I think this fight is killing off 2 top contenders that can fight for the championship and put on a show, not fuckin "lay n pray alvarez".

longple: ur missing the point! this is an attempt to get away from the bumhuntmentality!

Stipe was taking a 5 round fight on short notice, Werdum was basically preparing for a better version of him in Cain, and Stipe already has average to bad cardio and isn't great at finishing decent opponents.

You saved yourself some monies :D
