A few days ago on monday i got a phone call saying the well project has been completed, the village now has a good source of water once again. So its been a total success, they also told me out of the 1.5 million shillings we raised, they only used 1.1million. They then told me that there was a well in an orphanage in another village called Hope Village and it would be 500K shillings to repair that well, so i told them to dig into their pockets and match our 400K with their 100K so we could fix that well too, and its now in the works, so our money actually helped fix 2 wells in 2 different villages and give water back to hundreds of lives. Congratulations guys, we did a really good thing here.

Kaaliti Well Project
-Comments written by Connor

This is the primary school in Kaaliti. I took this picture a while ago, when we had a heath outreach, but it is a good photo of an important part of Kaaliti.

The kids here, as an visitor quickly learns, are a blast. They have such great energy and spirit. They exude enthusiasm. It's a beautiful thing.

A gutter catch that feeds into a big tank at the primary school. "Water is l...ife". Besides the obvious silliness. Why did they move to a new line after the L," the message says it all here. Water, something we take for granted in the west, is so essential for life! You can go weeks without food, but our bodies are little more than bags of water, AND WE NEED REFILLING!

The well project will directly impact the children of the village! Six of which followed me from the vehicle to the school. They are quite photogenic.

The well in question. It started with temporary closing, and eventually it had to be deserted. The well's piping is falling apart, and now the place is abandoned.

...It is abandoned...except when a crazy white guy walks over to it to take pictures, hahah!

Great kids here. I've played soccer with a bunch of 'em. They've got skills man, I tell ya...

Some miscellaneous photos from the village.

The center of town. Down the centered road is the school and then the well.

Another shot from the center of the village.

Yo guys Its that time of year again, you probably remember last year we raised up a bundle of money for people in africa to buy donkeys.. this time its a bit different, but we will get to actually see some results!!

My friend Connor is in Kampala, Uganda right now helping with medical aid in the villages. One village near by has run out of water, their well ran dry during the recent drought and it was their only well. It costs $550 to have the well dug deeper and bring water back to the village. This is something so simple that will change the lives of many for years to come.

This donation will have no religious bias or any of that other shit, and the village will know the money came from poker players to help them out.

Ill have pictures up of the village very soon, and when the well is finished we will have more pictures.. its nice to actually see what our money went into.

Minimum donation is $5 and the donations will stop when we reach $550

If you would like to donate any amount please post a reply and ship the money to either of the accounts above, then i will edit this OP with the list of received money. (if you wanna keep your poker sn secret just pm me or w/e and ill work it out..)

My friend is working with a charity called "Show Mercy" and they are in a village called Kampala, Show Mercy runs out of Albany Oregon, we live in Silverton Oregon about 30 miles away, he met up with them because he was wanting to get some good volunteer work on his resume before applying to med school...

i started seeing his pics and videos and got really inspired about it and asked if there was anything i could do (kinda counting on being able to rally LP up this year for some donating)... anyways he said that the place he is working with has a very strong christian element that he isnt really fond of (hes not nuts, im assuming that means they are).. and that i shouldnt really be giving them money or w/e.. so i figured that was the end, but now Connor found out about this village and how they needed a well.. so im assuming this wont be associated with his group he is working with, i think this will be something where i will be sending him the money directly and he will be paying for the well to be dug deeper... ill just take a screen pic of the FB chat in hopes that will help..

fb cut off 2 comments for some reason but it was basically just me asking how i would send the money to him and telling him to get pictures... anyways there is alot of info on there hope this helps answer ur question a bit

yea i have no problem doing that.

and while were on the subject if anyone is uncomfortable sending your money its no big deal.. I will have pictures to show what the money got done, and of receipts..

I dont know about everyone else, but I'd rather send my money to a charity fund (a well run one) rather than a single person. I simply don't know and can't verify if any or all of this is true thus sending off a check to a guy named Connor XXX just isn't gonna sit well with me. Im sure there are relief groups that aren't christian that you could look into if you really wanted to do good.

Also i think if people are looking to be generous, please look into the Sichuan Quake relief, or Gansu flood.

EDIT: Also title is misleading, it sounds like Liquidpoker is endorsing this.

instead of getting so personal and flaming me, maybe you should think about what i've said. There are alot of people with deep pockets on LP and if your really looking to help its much better if you approached this problem professionally.

ok lets think about what you said... you said youd rather send your money to a charity fund ( a well run one) .. implying that i dont know what im doing and were going to fuck shit up....
Then you said you dont know and cant verify if any of this is true.. well no one asked you to verify shit.. i said id post receipts and i have more than enough people on LP that can vouch for me and trust me with 500 fuckin bucks.. then you said that you dont know this "connor xxx guy" well thats not shocking, but hes my best friend ive known him for the last 10 years.. and once again no one asked you..
then you said it just isnt gonna sit well with you.. well it doesnt matter cuz u started with saying youd rather send your money somewhere else..
then you said theres relief groups i could look into that arent christian .. thanks for the tip man, i had no fucking clue...

im tired of people every year doinating money to this and that and us not seeing ANYTHING orhter than an email... i have an unique chance here to actually see what we paid for and what we got for a village.. not just a copy of some cheesy mass sent email in response to w/e we donated..

and finally you named other groups... cuz that will piss me off more and derail shit, and then edited to say that its misleading cuz it says LP.... well i duno if u remember cuz u were banned last time we did this but thats what it was called last year and the year before...

so yea i read ur shit, thats what i thought about all of it...

seriously? that was a perfectly legitimate response

edit: i mean you're asking people to send you money for nothing based solely on what you're saying and when someone questions it (in a perfectly reasonable way) you're going to throw out some profanity laced tirade and tell him it isn't his place to ask for verification (he's a potential donator of course it's his fucking place to ask). that's pretty ridiculous and it's really a shame given that this is in all likelihood a very solid way to donate money to people that really need it.

I agree he should keep a cool head but im sure if anyone else had asked he would have responded reasonably.

I def dont agree about donating to a 'well run' charity though.I'm with Baal, this is much more likely to do some good.

Title is somewhat misleading assuming milkman didnt ask Meat or Naz.

i do find it quite strange that you can simply put a $550 price tag on digging a well deeper.. that's a pretty big project afaik. is it for shovels? hiring heavy equipment/operators? i am curious to be honest, and your unprofessional attitude doesn't help things milkman...

regardless, gl! good cause to be sure

this disturbs me a bit... not the best way to present his devotion to this volunteer work.

And about the fact that there will be a pic of it, I understand that it is important to know that your money has been spent efficiently, but you do realize that charity is not about "braggin". There are tons of goof volunteer projects that will not end in such a construction, such thing you can see, and still are super useful (some against illness spread for example). Maybe I'm going too far (really don't want to sound as Wobbly... ) but, as said above, it is not the best way to present this project imo.

that said, I will send you 10, can't do now, but feel free to pm if i forget.

I don't know exactly how it works but my sister was involved in something like this a few years ago and had friends in africa and once told me too that with $500 will do A LOT over there. Its stupid for us to believe that with that amount of money they can make stuff like that, but I guess thats the reality.

listen guys i understand that i looked harsh in my response to wobbly, the truth is, i hate that kid.. at first he did ask a few questions, and i responded nicely and fully.. then if you look 2 posts down its him saying that hes not going to donate and just shining a bad light on the whole deal..and thats where he pissed me off.. i wouldnt have responded the way i did if he had just said something like " i didnt like your response to my question so im not going to donate" or anything like that.. but thats not what he did.. he just shat on my stuff and made me feel like not even doing this anymore, and i got pissed.. anyways if anyone has any other questions please ask and ill answer them more fully...

basically its just all about raising money to dig a well deeper to bring water back to a village named Kaaliti in Uganda

And in response to using LPs name i edited out my first image and i will send naz and joy a message letting them know if they dont like the title to please edit it. cuz i cant.

alright here's a question

how devoted is your friend to being a volunteer? i understand the majority of volunteers don't intend to remain volunteers for good, they do it for the experience and the help with college/grad school. with that said, is he there just relaxing and enjoying the place and helping people or is he genuinely devoted to sacrificing all the time and energy he has to help these people? reason why im asking is that if he really is devoted to the cause then i don't see why we would want to stop at $550 since im sure he could put the extra money to very good use.

my friend is in no way a like full time life volunteer, hes going to school to be a doctor.. he has been doing things around our city to volunteer like working with mentally disabled adults and some out of control kids to keep um off the streets and stuff like that.. but its mainly volunteer work to help out people in general and look good on his med school applications.. so thats why he went to africa, it was to help out, but also look good on his medschool app.. While he is in africa he is devoted to sacrificing all his time and energy (except for soccer sundays) on helping the people out. The reasons i dont want to try and raise more than $550 are that he approached me with this idea and project only, and that was the price tag.. i also think trying to raise too much money for something like this would look sketchy.. also he is with a group called "show mercy" and im pretty sure they have plenty of money to take care of the kids around the orphanage for the day to day stuff.

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

I spend too much time on the net... my initial reaction was to post an extremely bad, stereotypically racist and inappropriate joke. On my more humanitarian side though it was rlly nice to read this thread, great to see the request to help others was filled up so quickly

Hey guys recent change, the number Connor was originally told was $550 but unfortunately this was incorrect.. once he started realizing i was serious about doing this we got all the stuff figured out and the full amount is $700.. there must have been a miscommunication somewhere along the line .. doomer has kicked in $100 and i got a pm about 1 more 10$ donation so we are only $40 away.. i found out i will be giving the money to the non profit that connor is staying with in africa that is called Show Mercy International ( http://www.showmercy.org/ ) and the second the money reaches their hands locally here in Oregon, they will be able to break ground in Africa, and it will also help with everyones legitimacy questions and stuff because i will have a receipt or something from them very soon.

So $40 bucks away GOGOGO!!

If I was a richass poker player, I'd choose a village in Africa, buy them a few cheap computers, take 10 intelligent kids, teach them poker and have them grind low stakes and feed the entire village.

It's ridiculous how much cheaper stuff is in the poor countries. I bet you could live good of of microstakes.

Have an opinion about what I said? please say it
